Follow the beginning of the Minoan nation through the eyes of Minos, the first king of the island of Crete, as he brings his people out of the Neolithic Age and spurs them forward into a time of enlightenment, scientific discovery, industrialization, and enterprise. His adventures take him around the Mediterranean and influence surrounding civilizations. The Minoans pre-date the Greeks by almost two thousand years, and yet the culture Minos established there was the foundation of our own. Lovers of historical fiction are sure to be enthralled and swept away by this award-winning novel. Brilliantly written, MINOS captures the essence of life in the birthplace of civilization and transports us through discovery and opposition, human violence and natural disaster of unparalleled catastrophe. A guaranteed pleasure.
Best historical fiction I've read in ages. I've learned enough about the Minoans and ancient Mediterranean history to carry me through my next trip to Greece and make it all the more enjoyable. Can't wait to go again and see it through the eyes of the ancients.
Loved it! Great from end to end. It was like I was actually there seeing and feeling the events as they happened. I have to buy a ticket now to see these places for myself.
There's not much I can say here except that this book is excruciatingly in need of an editor. Info dump after info dump, without any real character development. I found the pace plodding. The blurb left me scratching my head. "Award-winning" fiction? I don't think so.
Painful. But necessary in preparation for a trip to Knossos on Tuesday. Historical fiction is a favorite way to get involved in the time and place. This one isn't at the top of my list, but I'm going to get through it and will appreciate the visit next week because of it.
