Ik geloof niet in het noodlot.

In een roeping.

Of in zielsverwanten.

When I started this book I thought I had it all figured out. This would be yet another light read about the girl who saves the boy with issues. Throw in some best friend’s little sister angst and I settled in for a predictable read. But wow, was I wrong.

This book features some very complex characters dealing with a situation that is even more complex. Their characterisation and development was done very thoroughly and extremely well. My heart broke for Hawke many times over with all his many emotions warring with the anger and resentment inside him. I was also very frustrated with him at times. I just wanted to slap some sense into him and then hug him and make it all better.

However, it is Frankie that really stood out for me. She is fiercely independent, strong beyond her years and the perfect complement to Hawke and his overprotective alpha ways. She stood up for herself when it was needed and at other times kind and patient. The push and pull between them kept me highly entertained and drinking up every ounce of chemistry, tension and angst between them.

This is a complex and well-written read that I couldn’t put down with many interesting characters thrown into the mix.

Picture this… a hot man enters the coffee shop that you happen to work at. You interact with him but it’s mostly what he is ordering and sometimes small talk. You find him attractive and you know that he finds you attractive as well. A little flirt here and there. And so you decide to take a chance, and ask him out. And when he agrees, you are over the moon happy. Finally, you and Mr. mystery coffee guy are off on your first date. You and him hit it off and what should possibly lead to more but then he bolts. So what does Francesca do when she sees Hawke at the coffee shop the next day? Does she forgive him? Do they become friends? Is there a chance for Hawke and Francesca to be something more?

#MONDAY-1

photo 83eacb48d1828a54b8de97f988610b_zpsmwsu3rf0.gif “My last wall of restraint had cracked, and now there was nothing keeping me sane. My entire body wanted her, needed her. I wanted to give in to what I’d always wanted from her. I wanted her in my bed, in my sheets, and in my arms.”

Monday by E.L. Todd was a sweet, sexy, and emotional read that timely pulls all the right heartstrings. Ms. Todd has effortlessly drawn her readers to be immersed into the raw and vulnerable sides of her characters allowing readers to see beyond the smiles lies characters who are emotionally flawed and broken. For Hawke, he doesn’t believe that he deserves a woman like Francesca but slowly his walls begin to crumble as his feelings for her begins to deepen. And so what awaits for these two? Friendship? Or Lovers?

photo 83eacb48d1828a54b8de97f988610b_zpsmwsu3rf0.gif “I tried to clear my mind and think about the quiet beauty all around me. But all I could think about was the man I couldn’t have.”

Though this book ends with a slight cliffhanger, Ms. Todd allows her readers to feel for her characters and get to know them on a deeper and emotional level. With her sincere and ardent prose, Ms. Todd has beautifully weaved a story that was centered on raw emotions, friendship, second chances, and love. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Todd has in store for this couple as Monday ends, Tuesday begins.

An all-consuming, angst-ridden, and awe-inspiring friends-to-lovers romance, Monday grabs you fiercely and never lets go. Engaging. Emotional. Evocative. Monday brings enough feels to last until Sunday and more.

I decided to read Monday, my first story by EL Todd, blindly—something I've never done before. No synopsis. No clue about the story except for the hot guy and pretty gal on the cover. A few pages in and I was captivated, caught in the raw and riveting writing of this author that was quickly casting a spell on me. Hook. Line. Sinker.

Beautiful, smart, and sassy Francesca with her dark hair and sea green eyes meets a gorgeous and intense man in a bakery one day where she works that changes her life.

Hawke. Dark hair. Blue eyes. Tall. Muscular. Inked. Player galore. And oh so a predator. I want to be his prey.

It's an insta-attraction. A magnetism that pulls with a force like a hurricane. On their first date, their kiss ignites fireworks and was the best either of them had.

"We were two poles carrying the same wire. Electricity ran between us, and once the touch was severed, so was the energy."

That powerful kiss left them both panting and wanting more. Though Hawke becomes scared of what it could lead too, and plays the dreaded friend card.

"I really like you but I'm not the man you want...the kind that isn't good enough for you."

Ouch. That burns. My heart starts to crack for Hawke's low self-worth.

Once Hawke discovers Francesca is his best friend's little sister, friends it is. Francesca is off limits. Forbidden. Despite both of them wanting...needing more. Despite destiny that brought them together.

"I know it sounds crazy but...I feel like our paths were meant to cross."

So these friends morph into soul mates in every way...sans sex. Hawke and Francesca’s friends-only status is tested when Francesca has to stay with Hawke for a week due to apartment maintenance. The flirting is fierce. Oh is Hawke a delicious and devilish dirty talker.

"You packed lots of panties, right? Because I want to see them on that beautiful ass of yours."

Friends...yeah, right.

"Come on, take a peek. He's excited to see you."

Smile. Scorch. Repeat.

This is a couple who needs to realize they are destined to be together. You can't fight fate as fate always wins.

"I wanted him, but in a way I couldn't explain. I detected pain emanating from every part of his body. It was like a high-pitched song only I could hear."

These beautiful words shot arrows straight to my heart. Francesca is the light to Hawke’s dark. The high to his lows. The angel to his devil.

“You have the most beautiful soul.”

“No. That’s your soul you’re seeing—inside of me.”

You go through life looking for a soul mate. Your friend. Your lover. Your more. Francesca and Hawke are each other’s other half. Two halves joined as a whole who are meant to be joined forever.

“We were molding into a single person, one entity.”

Francesca beams light into Hawke’s dark life. However, a dark childhood filled with abuse has made Hawke mark himself a monster when Francesca only sees a loving man. He is torn, and so lost that he may never be found. Those demons that he tries to keep buried swim up to the surface, whirling around like a hurricane, threaten to destroy everything.

“Like a ghost, he vanished from my life.”

Gah! This cliffhanger left me gasping for air. Monday is heartfelt and hypnotizing where I was glued to the pages. Every. Step. Of. The. Way. Pure beauty in words. I want more. Need more. Tuesday needs to happen soon to erase this Monday hangover.

This story was tough. I didn't like Hawke at first. I kept thinking he wasn't the true H meant for this book and was waiting for her to meet someone else. I'm impressed with E.L. Todd's way of writing his character. We weren't meant to like him at first. He wasn't a good guy. He wanted flings only but he wasn't deceitful about it. I loved Frankie (Francesca's) attitude about the whole thing. She realized he wasn't ready for what she wanted so she accepted him for who he was while standing by her own beliefs. She didn't nag him to change. She settled for being his friend. Normally I wouldn't like that but it worked for this story. I really liked the transition from seeing this playboy slowly learn that things can be different with the right woman. Of course there are bumps and bruises along the way but I wasn't expecting that cliffhanger. This story continues with the next in the series called Tuesday

I liked the beginning.
The hero pushing the heroine away was what I was expecting from this story. However, I found myself skimming when they were coming together. I think it had to do with the writing style. Something was missing and I am not sure what it was with this book.

Hawke and Frankie were fine.
I loved that Frankie was a barista and wanted to own her own bakery.
Hawke had a secret regarding his parents and I understood why he pulled away from Frankie. However, there was never a possessiveness for Frankie from him. I felt that even when they were together he was never fully committed. I knew he wouldn’t cheat, but there was never that “she is mine and I will always take care of her.” He got jealous in the story, but I felt that was just a reaction.
You may disagree. Reading is subjective.
I love slow-burn romances and especially romances where the hero pulls away, but I have to buy the love.

2,5⭐ Aprobadillo..

Too much drama, abuse and manipulation in this story! She was too young and naive to realize that she was being abused and manipulated by him...he didn't realize that he needed therapy to deal with his deep seeded issues! She was trying to fix him and trying to stay in control of not letting anyone boss her around yet that's what he was doing. It was too long and way too much sex...it's as if the author felt that the sex would fix everything between the main characters...I hope her sequel is better and shorter!

I had this book on my kindle for 3 years and finally decided to read it.

This book has 2526 ratings with an average of 4.04. stars. That's why I was very excited to read it. It's the first book of 7 books series.
So I was prepared for binge reading the whole series.

Ok, so that was before I read this book. I don't know what I was expecting, but definitely not 426 pages of boredom and nerve-wracking absurd and repetitive stories. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I love romances and would read any kind of tropes in this genre.
I have no favorites, I just love romances 🤷🏻‍♀️

This book sounded amazing (in the blurb), but the story was written in a way that didn't make sense and with so many cringe worth sentence, I stopped count after the 20th.
The characters are according to the description soul mates and are in love, but have zero chemistry and I only know the condition of their feelings because the author informed the readers about them!

It's a kind of insta-love story, but it takes the characters a lot of time and arguing to the point of a real  relationship and not only friendship. What they tried for 40% of this book.

She is naive and tries to help him get out of his "depression" and excuse just everything he does wrong. A big part of it is his constant bad temper and verbal abuse, what is described like it should be romantic, that is definitely not.
He is famous for his one-night stands and don't stop with his lifestyle even after he realizes that she is "the one". It takes him a couple of months to stop his escapes and commit to her.
That's where I thought maybe the story will take a turn and we'll hopefully see this "one in a lifetime feelings", as the author describes them. No, nothing except a lot of bad sex and the same repetitive nonsense.

Ok, I had to let off some steam because I'm really disappointed 😬
But I've read hundreds of romances that were 100% better and didn't get the attention they deserve and a book like this has so many good reviews, how is it possible?

Girl meets troubled boy/forbidden brothers best friend/friends to lovers. This one was tough for me because I really liked it but certain things frustrated me. It started off ok but then it kind of seemed flat and the dialogue was cheesy at times. The H and h Francesca and Hawke some of their interactions were immature as if it was high school. I don’t know but for some reason I was drawn to the story and wanted to keep reading. I’m pretty invested in the story enough that I will have to continue on with book two since it did end in a cliffhanger. 3.5 stars

It's one thing when you get this electric, undeniable connection with someone like you're tethered to them. It's another thing if this someone you feel this kind of connection with is someone you think you could never have. It's like a ticking time bomb. An inevitable magnetic chemistry that would explode anytime soon. It's a sure thing, yet so unstable at the same time. Like you never know when you'll just lose your footing. This is exactly how Hawke and Frankie's tale started.

Hawke has this certain darkness, hollowness and coldness inside that makes him hold everyone at arm's length, including Francesca. What he endured during his childhood scarred him for life and he's still living the nightmares every single time his mom reached out to him. Then his life changed; he finally started seeing light and color because of this Muffin Girl full of life. And he was ready to take the plunge now that he couldn't hold in what he was feeling for this girl. But Hawke is still battling his own demons just lurking at the surface, waiting to be unleashed. His relationship with Francesca is immensely passionate and true, but it was somewhat toxic. Especially with what's still raging inside of him. I feel so torn because I know Hawke did what he had to do because he thinks that's what was best for him and Francesca. But it hurts so damn bad. I feel like I shattered right along with Frankie on those last few pages.

Francesca has this independence and confidence that I love so much. She never lets anybody boss her around and she always speaks her mind. I love her relationship with Hawke, most especially the friendship they have from the very beginning. These two built such a solid relationship at best, yet could still be shaky at times. She has so much life and love in her. She never lost faith in Hawke even though she's the only one left hanging on. She's so strong and brave, taking on a very vehement and aggressive man like Hawke, but it's not surprising at all. If there's anybody who could tame a Grizzly Bear full of anger ready to tear everything apart, it would be this girl and this girl alone.

This is the first book I've ever read from E. L. Todd and it was such a thrilling experience. I love Hawke and Frankie's story. I felt so much for them the entire time. They made me mad, cry, laugh, fall in love and feel utter devastation. The only thing that broke the 5-star rating for me here is the way some of the sex scenes were written. They didn't feel exactly right to me. That's just me though. But all in all, story-wise, I loved it. The Muffin Girl and Grizzly Bear for always.

In the beginning, I liked where things were heading. Then I found myself a little bored here and there. Maybe it wasn't the right time to dive into this with my busy work schedule. I still liked the characters and the overall story. If I ever dive into the next book of this series, I will have to do so when my life is less chaotic.

4.5 Emotional Stars

What to say about a book that has given me so many emotions while reading it....Francesca and Hawke have this immediate connection. Problem is, Frankie wants forever and Hawke only wants one night.

When these two meet, there's an electricity crackling around them and it just can't be explained. Hawke and Frankie have a GREAT first date, and no matter how much they're meant for each other, Hawke walks away with no explanation. Frankie of course is not sure what to make of this but somewhat moves on with her life, until Hawke shows up with her brother at a family dinner. Things begin to change for these two.

But there's a darkness in Hawke that keeps him from taking what he wants and what he wants is Frankie. She's everything he's ever dreamed about, but because of certain elements in his life, he just won't allow it to happen. Frankie on the other hand, knows that she and Hawke are meant to be together and she's willing to be friends with him if that will keep him in her life.

One of the things I loved about Frankie is her determination to open and start her own bakery business and not wanting to get help from anyone. For a girl her age that's an ethic that's not seen very often. Her love of baking is what ultimately brings her and Hawke to an understanding of what they're meant to be. Hawke is one of these guys that's all dark and brooding, really smart and dangerous, but that's what makes him so appealing in my opinion.

As the weeks and months pass, their connection continues to grow. But can Hawke be the person Frankie needs him to be? Can she make him feel worthy of their love? What is this darkness that lingers inside him? Will it keep them together of will it ultimately tear them apart? I loved every single page of this book. I laughed and I cried and I can't wait to see what happens next with Francesca and Hawke.

2.5 A contemporary romance that is too long and keeps addressing the character's flaws repetitively with little progress in the plot and storyline.

I initially liked the direction of Frankie and Hawk's story that was full of angst and what if's. Two different people with different aspirations who were at a turning point in their lives. And then: It became very slow moving with little progression into the story, but hung in until 60%; where I began to skim until the end of the book.

Reading an author's story is subject to whether or not you like their writing style. I never enjoyed the writing from this author in the two books I tried to read in this trilogy. It felt off and didn't make me want to get to the next page or read the next chapter. It lacked the passion, style and dialogue that I have grown to love with some authors who know how to pull the reader in by engaging them into the character's lives. I pushed through because I did have a basic interest in the two main characters. The ending was expected based upon the storyline and Hawk's past. I understand how parents can impact a young person/ adult's life and was sympathetic until I wasn't. His parents had taken center stage in Hawk's life and continued to play him like an puppet (his mother was the worst) through book one. His entire life to date was of mental and physical childhood/adult abuse and neglect by his parents in a toxic and deadly relationship. His guilt had turned a child into a damaged soul, that was tormented by the actions of others. He never tried to unpack why he was the person he was from a therapist or put a name on his co-dependency with his mother.

Frankie's character was far more put together than Hawk's, but also had her own demons with her parents and how they past away. Her character settled far too much and accepted Hawk's weirdness and even took part in it to change a man who didn't want to be changed. She let down her walls and let him in only to have him leave her without any explanation....here today and gone tomorrow by books' end. I knew the author had to have something to write about in book two and expected it, but still felt that she was better off without Hawk. Their relationship through much of book 2 seemed more one sided with Frankie's character wanting more while Hawk was spinning his wheels trying to identify why Frankie was different from other women. So when book one ended I thought let's see how book 2 unfolds, only to find that I was not only disappointed, but could not finish it.

How much can you dissect a contemporary relationship that feels doomed before it gets off the ground?

Didn't finish after page 42. And even then I skimmed to that point. Basically this reads like its for 13 year olds. except that the author threw in some F words and also I can see that it will also have sex in it. So it's kinda confusing who this book is geared toward. The writing and the story is basic and superficial. The characters are straightforward and bland. It starts out with girl likes guy, girl asks guy out, he accepts, they go on a picture perfect date, neither has noticeable flaws or interesting character traits. So Why do I want to read about that type of situation? It's just that with a start like that I'm not pulled in at all. There's no mystery or intrigue. No layers or wondering. Again, it's all just a little too basic. And from the tone of the book I'd have guessed the main female character, Frankie was 16 years old. But she's 22! I'm not sure why I get that vibe other than just the writing style as a whole. Like the author herself is only 16. So then the only reason I kept going (skimmed) was because there is a little hint of something unique and something mysterious happening when the guy bails on Frankie after that first date and doesn't ask for another. Or even contacts her in any way. So I thought, okay, I wonder what spooked him. I'll skim through (the boring filler) to find out and If it's a creative twist, then I'll maybe keep reading. But when I did get to the reason behind it I was so so disappointed. Which I should have expected. It was cliche and unoriginal. Just like a million other romance novels. There was also other romance novel cliches in the book as a whole besides that though. namely: the guy can't stop thinking about Frankie because she's "different". Yet, from what I've read and seen of their interactions together and from frankies point of view she's the most basic, uninteresting, boring, normal character out there. How is she different? Seriously author. How? What has she done or said that makes her stand out from the crowd? Having the guy say she's different is not enough for me to actually believe he would feel that way. So it's a disconnect and I'm pulled out of the story because of it. I don't like giving bad reviews so I do feel kind of bad but I wish authors would realize that even if their writing is more simple and straightforward, if they would just come up with a creative, original story where the characters don't always do what you expect then it will automatically be way better than a story line that's been done to death.

This is the first time I have read anything from E.L Todd and I have absolutely no idea why I waited so long this story was amazing it pulled me in immediately so much so I was up until 3am to finish it. It's brilliantly written with great characters that you can find yourself actually relating to.

Francesca is a strong willed and fiercely independent young women who's endured more than most in her life after losing both her parents. She meets Hawke when he comes to her place of work for coffee she takes the plunge and asks him on a date.

Hawke is a great guy and never has a problem getting the ladies but he has demons that he fights with everyday after been brought up with an abusive father he's convinced he's going to turn out just like him. He won't do relationships and he's determined never to fall in love then there's no-one close enough to him to hurt. Can Francesca show him how to love and be loved back or will his demons tear them apart before they even have a chance to get started.

Just WOW!!!! Monday was an exceptional read. A head strong woman and a broken man. Frankie isn't a weak woman. She had faced love and loss in her life but she is strong and pushed through. Even the hurt she finds peace while Hawke fights his demons everyday. He doesn't do relationships and he doesn't believe in himself until the day Frankie shows him there is more. Although they butt heads because they are both so stubborn they have this chemistry they will kick your Socks off and a love they makes your heart so happy but sometimes that's just not enough because Hawke can't seem to get past them demon that controls him. I'm so shocked right now and my heart breaks for Frankie but I know she isn't a quitter and isn't giving up so now onto Tuesday.

A heartwarming start to the new timeless series by E.L Todd.

The story starts of slow allowing you to fall in love with the bond that frankie and hawke come to share, the past heartaches and fears they both have and try to let go off and the insecurities of not being enough.

Frankie is a sassy and independent girl with dreams.

Hawke a self confessed manwhore with a past that's controlling his future.

The story grabs hold of you and carries you through to the end on a wave of emotion and leaves you at the end wanting more.
Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Ok, I'm only 50% of my way through this and I don't think I'll be finishing. It was just so long winded. Don't get me wrong I like books that set the premise and build up angst but this just seemed to take forever. I just couldn't connect with the characters and the writing seemed like blocks. Always full stops. I don't know maybe the second half might be a little more oomph but I won't be finding out just yet. I may finish reading somewhere down the line but not today.

Manic Monday...

Loved the passion from our star characters! Watching (reading) them build their relationship was great. It's hard to resist desires, but it was time...So happy when they finally came together. Hated to see it end that way, didn't realize the story was going to just keep going on. The rest of the week (series) will have to be slow go for me...

This is another amazing book by E.L. Todd! Monday is first book in The Timeless Series. The book is well written. I was drawn in from the first page and I couldn't put the book down until I had read the last page. You don't want to miss this book. It is a definite MUST READ! :)

Just can’t figure out how most women authors show their heroines as airheads and superficial sluts, and think their audience are fine with that.

I received a free copy by the author for an honest review. First let's say I'm not a fan of kindle books. I read this on my phone! The story had all the feels! But this story was a page turner! It leaves on a cliffhanger which I want to confine with book 2.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. It just had some writing flaws which dropped it down half a star for me.

Trigger warnings: domestic violence and erotica. The man in the story is very problematic so if you don't like those types of books I don't suggest picking it up.
