Wonderful book
This book is about Stinky Joe, Baer Creighton’s pit bull. Stinky Joe is Baer’s soul mate, been with Baer through thick and thin. Now Stinky is in a bad way and Baer has to find him and bring them back together. A great tense story that everyone would like.

This was a bit of a let-down. It was still entertaining, and better than most things out there—it just wasn’t as good as the first 3 in the series.

I was immediately drawn into Stinky Joe, a cold and hungry pit bull, separated from his best friend, Baer, just trying to survive - depending on the kindness of strangers and fearing the evil of others. The author is brilliant in developing an animal character that instantly grabs your heart and whose struggle to live overwhelms. Other characters are skillfully added to the storyline, Shirley, a 400-pound prostitute who lives in the trailer park and pays some of her rent by having sex with the owner of the park - Shirley coaxes Stinky Joe with food laced with a sleep aid into her trailer - initially planning to kill him for messing her garbage but her heart moved her to nurture Stinky Joe with a bath, food and treating his wounds..
Clyde, a crooked businessman of odd, lude sorts whose evil ways cause his own demise. Leaving the fate of the tenants at the mobile home park in the crude murdering hands of others, namely Lester and his son Eljay with no conscience or mercy destroying anyone and anything that gets in their way even their own family.
. The author is very skilled in detailing the characters in his books with such intimate insight that it leaves his reader's unsettled because the reality is quite harsh and often very hard to even imagine. I can actually see, feel, taste,touch and smell the harsh realities so vividly that I feel deeply a strong physical and emotional response, which at times renders me nauseous and shaking and having to put the book down so I can compose myself to read on. (that’s a compliment not a criticism)!~!
Stinky Joe and Bear have been separated for a while and they miss each other desperately and they are each suffering and going through trials in their lives that no one could ever have to endure to find each other again.
Baer, still in hiding from the FBI and Stinky Joe left to the mercy of humans and wild predators which were unkind and cruel except for the few times someone took pity on him and a friendship he formed in the wild with a young lady coyote. Amazing. . he had to fight to stay alive until Baer found him or he found Baer.
Meanwhile, Shirley and a Russian stripper that lives in the park are in cahoots to take down Lester and his son for all the evil and drugs and murdering they did. Shirley’s approach is harsh and merciless and yet oddly her cruel resolve made sense to me for who she is.
This book is filled with loyalty and unimaginable lengths people will go to to remain loyal and stay true to themselves and what they believe is right. And so true for the animals as well -certainly for Stinky Joe and his dear friend the lady coyote. I wonder if I were faced with any of these situations and I had to do whatever it took to save someone I love, especially my children or my life partner or my dear pet, what lengths would I be willing to go to? This book has challenged me to explore myself and what I would be willing to do and/or what I could accept others doing to save their own.

I hesitated between a 4 and a 5. I received an advance copy and the author asked that I review it.
The book isnt perfect. "Cryptonomicon" is perfect. But even considering the soul corrupting practice of an early copy, this is still beyond merely good.
Yes, I'm a fan.
Ive read all 4 of theBaer books...
And despite the fact that you will enjoy the book more if you read the three that came before it in order, OSJ could work as a stand-alone.
I think Stinky Joe is supposed to be a pit bull. As the owner of several French and English Bulldogs over the years and being friends with a few dogs that fall under the pit bull umbrella, I can say that the perspective of the book - Stinky Joe's - feels accurate. He doesn't care about politics, has a high regard for the cabbage smelling man, and is mostly concerned with eating and staying warm. I wish the author had explored the issue of SJ's first attack on a human a bit more, but maybe that's "in character".
And SJ never makes a pass at that cute she-coyote! That just seemed out of character, no matter how banged up he was.
And then there's Shirley. The Che Guevara of 400 lb prostitutes. We meet her early and immediately start wondering what her intentions are towards Stinky Joe. Is she going to poison him or adopt him?
I found myself identifying with her which as a straight 65 yoa man, is kind of disturbing.
And Clyde, the trailer park money man.
He is so bad he could be the villain in a professional wrestling show. You will be rooting for him to come to a bad end.
The philosopher of the cast is Lester, the elderly drug dealer. Several chapters deal with his trip through the woods with his highly trained German Shepherd, Lucky. He is musing on his part in the universe, and it's just awesome. he goes from the profound to the profane and back again so fast...
I have compared the author to Joe R. Lansdale (Bubba Ho-Tep, Hap and Leonard). With this book, I'll have to say, I'd read a new Lindemuth before a new Lansdale.

If I had read this book before Shirley F' N Lyle I'd have given that five stars also. I didn't understand the main characters in that book as well as I do now. I also didn't appreciate the author's style of writing where he adjusts the character's speech to match their style and intellect.
When reading the Shirley book I didn't realize it was part of a series and that its characters had been introduced in earlier books. I often make the following suggestion to authors of series books. To improve your reader's enjoyment of your books, and to increase the likelihood of them buying your earlier books, it would be very helpful to include a summary of key events from prior books as well as a Who's Who of the main characters.
While these books can be read and enjoyed on their own, the enjoyment is vastly improved by starting at the beginning. Also, for us loyal readers who want to follow-up with the subsequent books in a series but read many books in between the subsequent releases, these summaries will help us get back up to speed quicker. As recommended, I'm going to get all the earlier books in this series and start from the beginning...you should also.

This is the fourth and latest book in the Baer Creighton series. I had a difficult time rating this book. I love the character of Baer and he's not at the forefront of this book. His pit bull, Stinky Joe, is.
Baer has hidden in a secret lair with the two young girls he rescued from a human trafficking operation for the winter in the mountains outside Flagstaff, Arizona. Joe didn't make it to the sanctuary in time so he barely scraped by over the winter, starving and cold.
And this is Joe's story, full of menacing men, menacing wildlife, prostitutes and hoods.
Yes, I liked Joe's story but I really hope that the author gets back to having book five centered around Baer.
It sounded like it might be a while before book five so I'm now off to read another book by Lindemuth COLD, QUIET COUNTRY.

Another excellent installment in the Baer Creighton series. Baer and his trusty best friend Stinky Joe are separated, and we get to follow each of their paths as they weave their way back to each other. Along the way we meet another gloriously wild cast of characters that only Clayton Lindemuth could conjure: the aging meth dealer and his psycho sons, the 400-lb prostitute with a heart of gold, and more. The story is tight and twisty, as once again we wonder how our favorite antihero is going to get out of the pickle he finds himself in. Another excellent, entertaining read. And of course, narrator Kain Foster is once again on his "A" game.

Great Title!I
Loved this book. It had a great title and the story lived up to it! This novel was well written and that at the heart strings.
If you've been following Baer and Stinky Joe you won't find a better trip than this one!
Buy it, rent it, borrow it, but don't miss it! I really loved it and of all so far, this will be the one I will read again.
The characters are well fleshed out and pretty much believable. The plot is out there but well within the the sphere of Baer, his family, his growing number of friends and , or course, sweet Stinky Joe!

I love this series
Sometimes I wish we had a Baer to clean up Washington. He asks some of the same questions that I do. Why would any god create a world where evil thrives and the good suffer? Why would a sane god create a hell? Why does a man become evil when he is forced to fight evil on its own terms, when the only way to survive or prevent worse evil is to destroy it? Why is there evil in the first place? All of these are brought out during the telling of a story that will keep you reading far into the night! Enjoy.

Rough as dry prairie, still soft in the right places
Baer and his dog Stinky Joe head west to see the country. There's plenty to see and they run across lots of nice places to make camp. One night there they are, minding their own when they witness a truck, a flat tire, and a murder. What follows is a sequence of councidence. Or the hand of God. The more I read about the pure dog Ness of Stinky Joe and his blessed life, the more I wonder which it is.

No nonsense writing. No PC BS here. This has been my favorite story so far, yes I have a thing for Joe. Story follows Joe ,a Southern raises pit bull with an attitude,on his solo adventures. Joe is separated from his human partner Baer due to a police search. Easy read, you can read them independently, but do yourself a favor and read or even re-read them in order.You won’t be disappointed.

Best farm books I've read in a long time
Everyone has flaws. Some are worse than others. Some people are out for revenge, out for hatred, or out for they're business, evil business, the Devil's own work. But flawed as one may be, some simply want justice. The ones out for justice carry the light inside.

I read an advance copy of this book. It was fantastic! The characters are vivid, believable and true to life. If you've read the first three books in this series, you must read this one. They only got better the more I read. I can't wait for the next Stinky Joe novel. Please keep them coming.

Good finish to the story
Another great story. This time it's mainly from the perspective of the dog Stinky Joe. This story it's about the tribulations of Beers dog in the aftermath of Baer's run in with the human traffickers in Arizona.

Troubles for Stinky Joe
Just like Baer, Stinky Joe attracts trouble. Both suffer bad injuries. Throw Shirley in the mix and you got a great read. Can Baer get to Stinky Joe in time to save him? Hard to put this one down to get food and a little sleep. Moving right along to Book 5

Run stinky Joe run
Another conflict sorted out the hard way. Poor Joe just trying to survive in a world where some people think they can get away with what ever, because they have money. Baer and Joe's relationship is a beautiful thing.

As I've said before seems Baer is on a mission. May seem as if he is the outlaw but compared to the others he has killed he's a saint. Love this series. Thank you Mr. Lindemuth.

Great stories
I almost didn't choose a series to read but I'm glad I did It's written to keep you in suspense I enjoy the different story throughout the book cannot wait to get into the next book in the series

Really enjoying this series - books 1-3 written from Baer's perspective, this one largely from Stinky Joe's. The characters are endearing - rooting for Baer to find the peace he seeks - just the bad guys keep on popping up and finding him!

If you enjoy reading about dysfunctional people enmeshed in prostitution, debauchery ,evil and murder who love their dogs this is for you. Man's inhumanity to man.
