Isaac Race thought he'd found a new family and home. A new Life. He had, but it's all about to be snatched away. When an old enemy launches a sneak attack on the USA, his peaceful life is shattered and Isaac, by his very nature a loner, must band together with a ragtag group of survivors and make their way to a sanctuary, three states away in the depths of a vicious east coast winter.

It won’t be easy, the invaders aren't the only dangers unleashed in a world suddenly deprived of adults and authority, and if they're going to survive, they'll need to be resourceful, and ruthless and rely on others in a world where trust has been shattered.

Good book. Sort of a YA apocalyptic book, but I enjoyed it, reading books one to six over two days, when the temperature dropped below -20.

Good characters that you like, especially when they get to Luke's story. He spent time setting up our main characters life before to the point where you were rooting for him, even when he made bad decisions.

Until they group moved to Manchester the book was really good, all characters fleshed out and the writing was done well, so you disliked the bad guys from their introductions... and then the old boys club writing started and from there came my only complaint;

and it started with this:
"...Bang, bang, bang. “Quick, you better get him down to the basement. We should get all the girls down there.” “Yep,” Indigo said, all business now."

500 people.
Get all the girls into the basement.

I know the book was written from the boys perspective but come one, believe it or not, women/girls can fight and shoot too, as a matter of fact, I rarely if ever miss taking out ground squirrels on our acreage, even as they run away, so I was a better shot than any of these guys when I was 12.

Although the story carried along at a good clip and remained interesting, it would have been GREAT if even one of the girls was capable, because they were before they met the guys, and in a post apocalyptic world, they should have gotten stronger, not weaker.

It would have been 5 stars except for that.

All but #6 are cliffhangers— well performed by Adam Barr. Exciting and, thank God, only a dystopian fantasy.
