Fallon is back with a new James Fleming mystery that takes the reader from Peru to Dublin. A man's murder is pegged as a robbery gone awry, but his friend, Father Tom, suspects otherwise. The priest enlists the help of James Fleming, who discovers an ugly secret about to claim more lives.
A slow-to-start book with a lot of introspection by Fleming while he meanders through investigating the murder of a man he didn't know. A good share of the text involves James Fleming trying out a new community, a small town artists' colony an hour's drive from Dublin, while he finds himself at something of a personal crossroads. Only when a second murder occurs does the book pick up pace and James' investment become personal. A good book for those who like to get to know a setting but maybe not for those who want more action from the main character.
