MJ Fields is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance novels. She lives in New York with her daughter Miss A, smoochie faced Newfie, Theo and the newest member to the 'fields crew, rescue diva / holy terror Eleanor. When she’s not locked away in the cave, she enjoys doing home improvement projects, spending time with her family, attending live music and sporting events, the theatre, singing off key, dancing to her own beat, listening to audio books, and reading of course.
Truly wanted to love this story but it felt like I was trapped in a nightmare trudging through sinking sand almost making it to safety but my ass wakes up before making it. Tooo much unnecessary drama. As much as I complain of the words my kids use as oppose to back in the day. These college kids remind me of my college days and not my kids who are 18,21, and 24 respectively. An example are the music references i.e. Wilson Phillips???? I must talk hair now because it factored into Lilyanne’s life. Using weave although still used is not the norm today. Myself, daughters and many of their peers utilize various protective styles which may include weave, wigs, braids, twists, crochet. Yes, we have bad hair days like “all women”, but truth be told, our hair is part of our glory. There are any number of youtube videos that may have served as a point of reference. Having our hair “did” is too right not to be. I don’t want to touch the church thing.🤦🏽♀️ 3 stars for this bwwm college sports romance. About MJ Fields
USA Today bestselling author MJ Fields write books that scorch pages and melt hearts. Her style is raw, gritty and authentic. Love an alpha and a strong heroine? She does too.
When freshman Jamie, meets upperclassman Mitch (BMOC) there are instant sparks for the sheltered daughter of a minister. Mitch is a no love, no commitment kind of guy other than to take a woman to paradise with his ladies first tongue game. A game he loves so much that he's rated a solid 5! Jamie experiences his skills rather early, but cools toward him when she learns she's not so special. Jamie blows hot and cold and Mitch uncharacteristically cares what she thinks of him. They are off and on and they go back and forth meanwhile trying to navigate their non-relationship and while still hanging out with their friends.
Mitch's home life has always been rough with parents you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. Meanwhile, Jamie is looking for her birth father, on her own, rather than straight up ask her mom -- "Who's my daddy"?! In her quest to find him, when she comes across a possible candidate she comes off looking a bit crazy. Between her lack of communication with her mother, her nearly being hit by cars, drinking and singing--she always seems to catch Mitch at his low point when he's given up on her and tries to move on.
Jamie is young, judgmental and immature and frankly for someone that was friendless because no one wanted to hang with the minister's daughter, I just didn't see her being able to give a BMOC so much flux. The last quarter of the book was the best in my opinion where the games stopped, the truth was revealed and they decided to be real with one another. That's why the story gets a 3.5 instead of 3!
A MUST read .. everyone needs to experience #theMooreeffect
Reading this book was like visiting with old friends you haven't seen in awhile and forming new friends along the way. #winwin I loved the bromance between Logan and Mitch along with all their banter. Elle & Logan both made me want to laugh and cry for them all over again.
Mitch "Munch" Moore .. number 69 .. talented beyond belief both on the field and off .. and he has scientific proof to back up his theories! As the storyline unfolds the unexpected twists of #JerseyChasers and José Cox and Mitch's past .. all thrown together make for a beautiful story that's captured my heart and won't let go! The #CuddleSeason boys are back and don't hold back in any aspect, except perhaps when it comes to love .. but I'm a patient reader and know that if I stick it out, and wait for it, I know MJ will not disappoint me .. I and the characters I've grown to love, will get that HEA! Jamie G. is a strong young lady who is beginning to find her way in life without the watchful eye of her family and her community from back home. Watching her learn and grow was beautiful to experience. There's always a fine line to walk when learning to live and experience life all while trying to maintain your beliefs and honoring the roots that brought you to this point. A beautiful story of past heartbreak, discovery of oneself, struggles, giving (and Mitch excelled at this 😛😜😝), healing, searching, family and #squad. I want Moore! #theMooreeffect
I have never been so happy to finish something. It's not the story I was expecting. The characters annoyed the hell out of me.why was this girl always almost getting hit by cars? I made allowances for immaturity of the characters but it was taxing. The over all feel of the book was chaotic, word salad, with sometimes situations taking place that you had to re-read to make sense of. There were characters that seemed to just be tossed in the book and they were supposed to make sense. I'm not gonna lie, this one have me a headache.
Their First Time by M.J. Fields is a standalone college/sports romance that will take you on a journey between two people who come from different backgrounds yet feel a pull towards one another. This is Jamie & Mitch's story. They are at college together and they go thru many things together and separately yet the push/pull is strong between them. They go alot together and at times it doesn't seem like they will be able to go any further together because everything is insurmountable but somehow they pull thru. Their chemistry is intense and amazing. The trust they have together is awesome and just great!. I liked the plot, the secondary cast of characters, the backdrop and the sweet moments that add to the story. The slow and steady flow just hit the right note. Ms. Fields has written a beautiful story about two people who are perfect for each other in an imperfect world.
As I started reading it took me no time at all to fall back in the flow with all the guys we've met in previous books. This is Mitch and Jaime's story and yet again MJ mixes love laughter and heartache so easily. If you have read Logan ansd London's book some events will be familiar but we see them from a conmpletely different perspective. Mitch and Jamie were great characters to read. Both from very different backgrounds but underneath it all so very similar. Mitch is a man with hidden depths what you see is not all you get from him. Jamie has secrets and she has come to discover the truth. The one thing she never expected was Mitch. I loved the real emotions portrayed by both, I really felt like I knew them really well. A quirky love story that left me feeling really satisfied and happy.
I've read a lot of books by this author and what I'm really loving other than the storylines and characters is the message her books deliver. I connected so easily to these characters and was really moved by their individual journeys. I related to Jamie because I was the friend of a preachers daughter (in high school) and believe me, I never wanted to be in her shoes, they are held to a much higher standard than most. And I did get the feeling that Jamie was as well but of course she has the complicated issue with her mom and that's a tricky situation especially with her dad being a minister. And Mitch, well his story is a bit more common but not to be disregarded because unfortunately his story is becoming the norm for too many people. My heart broke for him and all he'd been through because when you live a life that he did, you become hard, you put on armour to help you survive and nobody should have to grow up that way. Together these two beautiful souls soar, of course there are issues and roads that have to be navigated but that's all part of life. Such a great story!
When Jamie and Mitch first meet, it's not exactly love at first sight. Lust maybe though... From there it's a whirl wind journey of drama, angst and passion as Mitch and Jamie fall hard for each other.
I have to admit that New Adult is not always my favorite kind of romance. Why? Well two of the things that are in overabundance here - angst and drama. Those two things overwhelmed this sometimes, and made me skim at parts. But, by the time I reached the end I had decided I mostly liked this story. Though seriously dramatic, it's still engaging and entertaining.
Jamilynn is a southern preachers daughter a long way from home. A freshie at Syracuse University looking to forward to all her firsts. What she found was she would experience them with him. With new friends that share her passions for the performing arts will this Flower thrive or will she wilt. Will the "squad" get her through?
Mitch a broken boy. Junkie mom who passed away, alcoholic father. He lost his first love and closed his heart because love hurts. His team has been his support but are their views the same as his?
Cuddle season is upon them. Will they be only a season or will they make it past cuddle season.
When MJ Fields writes a new book you know you are going to get absolutely consumed in the story of these two incredible characters. Jamie & Mitch come from such different backgrounds her being raised by a very religious family and him from a family who can barely hold themselves together, but from the moment they meet you can feel the chemistry falling from the pages. You will see the two of them go through a lot of ups and downs and at times feel they can’t overcome them but when you know you trust the the other with all your secrets you just might know this is the person you are suppose to have that HEA with.
Their First Time is book five in the Firsts series. I hadn't realized that this book was part of series to after I was done reading it and it definitely can be read as a standalone. Jamie is the daughter of a southern preacher. She's off to college and ready to find herself. Mitch is a football player who is a one night stand kind of guy. These two seems to be opposites and I wasn't sure if they would work. They have a connection and chemistry. They both have issues and things they have to deal with. They have their ups and downs but they are definitely a couple that I was rooting for.
Mitch and Jamie's story Mitch is Logan Links best friend, and teammate on the football team at Syracuse, like Logan he isn't interested in love. Jamie is a freshman and roommates with Elle, Christy and Lisa all part of theatrics department. Mitch is trying to convince Jamie to be his for #cuddle season There is some fun, angsty moments and another side of the story that what we have read from Logan's and Elle's version of freshman year. Always love a revisit with Lucas and Tessa.
Omg absolutely another amazing story that had me hooked from page one. MJ has a way with her words that drawls you in and makes you want too be apart of her stories. Another phenomenal 5 star read that everyone must read.
What a fun, sweet and sexy story on friendship, building trust,, and letting go of the past. The writer gives us a some what realistic look into college life and relationships. I just really have one question "why don't young people ask questions"? The writer gives the story a good pace and ties all events in so effortlessly. This was and is a really good addition to a great.series.
This was an amazing addition to this series that I had a hard time putting down once I started reading it. Mitch and Jamie's story was highly addictive and one that I had been waiting patiently for. Their story takes place at the same time that Logan and Elle/London's story, the first book in this series, so I was familiar with some of the events that took place throughout this book but from a different angle. Mitch and Jamie had one hell of a story that started once the pair said hello! The instant chemistry between the pair was palpable even from their first encounter. Both characters had secrets and issues to work through - Jamie with her mother as well as coming to find herself away from the religious upbringing while looking for a clue to her past as well while Mitch's issues revolve around his substance addicted parents, poor upbringing and trust issues when it comes to relationships. While the pair work through their issues cuddle season is underway. I could not get enough of their story and I recommend this book to others.
Everytime I read a new book that is connected to the storyline. I feel like I need to go back and re-read from the beginning. I wish I had the time. First Kiss started this crazy reading journey and so glad I took it. This was a loving story and their struggle to work through their own trauma to find their HEA was a smooth read and kept my adult ADHD at Bay. Thanks MJ for another Great read. Write on lady...
3.00 Stars. (BW/WM) Audible audiobook with narration by Elizabeth Hart and J. F. Harding. Llama drama through the roof. Insta love. The heroine, Jamie, is a college freshman who has been steeped in religion, sheltered and reclusive teen who still has her "V" card. The hero, Mitchell Moore, a sophomore comes from a background that is the polar opposite of Jamie's, his was a dysfunctional household; however, he was a popular talented high school football star who eared a scholarship to college, but, his first girlfriend and love of his life died while they were still in high school. Their on again, off again relationship began with his nick naming her Flower and her nick naming him Giddy-up, a few hours later, the self-righteous judgmental virginal ex-loner heroine allowed Mitchell to bring her to orgasm by performing cunnilingus- a few days later, she reciprocated by performing fellatio on him. Aside from Jamie's and Michell's stop/restart drama, there was much too much time spent on Logan's and Elle's back and forth. It was in the third quarter of the book that Mitchell and Jamie came clean with their hang-ups and vowed to be a couple and work out their issues; eventually, they were happy and married with children.
Their First Time is book #5 in The First series. It’s the perfect addition to this series, and Mitch and Jamie’s story is easily a stand-alone. This book has it all - incredible characters, instant chemistry, but also secrets and issues keeping them apart. Jamie moves away from home for college. She forms an immediate bond with her roommates Elle, Lisa and Christy. For the first time in her life she’s allowed to live, to make mistakes and free to experience things on her own terms. She meets Mitchell (Mitch) Moore, junior defensive lineman for the Syracuse Orangeman, and there is instant chemistry. Jamie was raised knowing the difference between love and lust, and knowing lust was something to avoid. They’re people with very different backgrounds and they’re getting closer but they don’t trust each other with their deepest, darkest secrets. Two souls who connect, but their worlds collide...
** ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review. **
I am really conflicted about this book. It started greatly and then it started running in all directions, so much drama and subplots that almost let me drop this book. But still, I kept reading because I appreciated the first part, when I could feel this connection between these two.
I understood they had trust issues and also having different backgrounds but it was so cliché at times. Mitch was the popular jock who had it all, meeting the new girl, Jamie who would turn his world upside down. I adored how they met and how natural their connection was. I liked their banter, they had an undeniable chemistry but the communication gap could turn things in a ugly way and that was unfortunate.
Somehow in the way, it got strained, like they were thriving on making the other one suffer and also to be toxic and destructive. Yet, they were great together and those beautiful moments that made me swoon and smiling weren’t enough. I wanted so much more.
However, it explored all the firsts that made a difference together and I appreciated that. I wished it was more exploited and less drama-ish. I felt like when they had something good happening, it was almost followed by something else that would threaten it.
The end was great and finished off on a more positive note, showing how amazing they were together.
The reason for the 1 star rating is in the spoilers section below.
The way this is written is kind of confusing. It's hard to visualize what is happening, like not enough actions are shown. For example, Logan gets up and leaves:
"Logan gets up, though, and says, “I need to make a call.” He exits the same way Elle left."
Then suddenly, half a page later, he's back without us knowing he's coming back. He's just there:
"I look away from the love fest as Logan Links—for the love of God, I need to stop that—stands behind Mitchell Moore."
Same think with Elle. She goes to the bathroom, then is suddenly back to leave again. Just most of the time, I felt like I didn't know what was going on. Especially when family member names are so close (Logan/ Lucas, and Carrie/ Cara/ Carla). And what was the point of the church scene? So we can read the author's rant of current society?
From the start, the character's aren't very likable. Jamie is from the south, but I feel like they are over doing it, by a lot sometimes and other times it's not here at all. Mitch's introduction made me wish he wasn't going to be the love interest. He seems to flirt with all of Jamie's friends, and not her. Then he is creepy and a complete jerk. Not a fan of his or Logan's. Logan is aggressive and possessive over someone he just met and isn't even nice to. Mr. Toxic Masculinity.
***SPOILERS***
Usually romances have a disaster in them, some kind of fire or earthquake or even kidnapping where the female is in danger and the male fears for her life. This book went with a mass shooting in a bar in New York. I felt that this was not only in poor taste, but borderline disrespectful. Because this book was written so poorly, this event was not handled with the delicacy it needs. It's down played and used as a way to push the character's back together. It's given the same feel as a car accident even though people died. I know I'm rambling at this point but I really didn't like it. I was going to give this book 3 stars up until this point.
On a bid to enjoy her college life, while figuring out her own history, freshman Jamie G. hadn't planned on falling for one of the biggest playboys on campus. It would've been easy if he ignored her, yet Mitch keeps turning up everywhere she goes.
Mitch only planned on getting some "action" for football season. He doesn't do commitment. Yet, Jamie G. manages to push every single protective instinct - along with all his arousal buttons. Mitch knows Jamie is a girlfriend/wife kinda gal, so he figures keeping her at arms length will suffice - and protect his and her hearts from disappointment.
This is a sweet, angst-y, emotional story of two people who've been caught in stereotypes their entire lives, and are finally realising who they could be without the pressure of parents, but with the support of good friends.
Jamie is a strong female character whose openness, curiosity, determination & eagerness to learn I envy. I like that she was firm about the lines and boundaries she wouldn't cross, and I especially liked that Mitch respected that.
The cast of secondary characters were great, and kept me alternately laughing and "aww shucks"-ing, especially Logan & Elle. And the epilogue was a nice touch.
I recommend this book.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
The story has a little bit of everything. You will laugh and you will cry but in the end, you will love just a little bit deeper. The story flowed well, and I was kept interested.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Her First Kiss (Firsts #1) His First Crush (Firsts #2) Their First Fall (Firsts, #3) 27 Truths About Their First Goodbye (Firsts #4)
This is Jamie and Mitch’s story. Both of these two hold on to their beliefs and run with them. They believe in those beliefs deeply but what happens when those beliefs are tested. Will they hold up or will these two be pulled together and no be able to resist. Will they question the beliefs or try to just pull them closer and move on? Is it the beginning of them or the end of what might have been?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read. M. J. Fields grabs you and drags you into her stories where she deals with real life issues and pain. She teaches about forgiveness and love.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
Really enjoying the first series, this book is based at the same time as London and Logan’s book so if you have read their book You’ll already be aware of the major incident and great characters within this story. This book can be read as a stand alone as the characters and incidents are revisited in great detail through the eyes of Jamie and Mitch. Daughter of a preacher Jamie is hoping to find the real her while at college and experience life. Without the judgement of the church parishioners Mayb she can become the Jamie she’s always wanted to be. Mitch hasn’t had the best life and believes women just leave so he isn’t interested in anyone getting close and is a huge player. The spark between Jamie and Mitch is instant but Jamie isn’t the normal girl mitch is used to and will make him work to be a part of her life. Mitch is hot and when he stops hiding from his feelings extremely sweet. Jamie the sweet peach Mitch wants a taste of is confident, talented and a great friend to her squad. Loyalty, love, twists and turns, another great MJ Fields read
Their First Time by M.J. Fields is a stand alone, college - sports romance. Jamie is a freshman and for the first time away from home. She was living in the south, a sheltered preachers daughter. Now with everything new she learns more every day. New friends, new school, new city and new males. Males who complicate her life, aka Mitch. Mitch is a senior and one of the college's football stars. He and his best friend Logan rule at college. He's dawn to Jamie and her frinends, only they haven't a lot in common. Their relationship is a complicated one and both have a lot of growing up to do. But when tragedy strikes all bets are off. Their First Time is a gripping read, I couldn't put it down,. Once I started reading I had to know what happens to the characters. The writing is great and I loved the unique storyline. 4,5 beautiful stars.
Who would’ve thought that Mitch weakness was a black woman and I was all for it. Jamie was the complete opposite of girls he was surrounded by. She was the daughter of a minister and wanted to live life in college and she meets Mitch. He doesn’t do relationships and she’s not a one night stand kind of girl. These two had a back and forth from beginning to end and Jamie made Mitch work really hard for everything. They went thru a lot together and they had similar issues about their past. When he wasn’t trying to get in her pants he was a very nice guy. And as much as Jamie tried yo just be his friend she know she couldn’t. I love how everything unraveled in the last couple chapters and you see their growth especially Mitch. The epilogue was perfect for them even though I wanted more. The secondary characters were entertaining also.
Absolutely Outstanding . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Their First Time . I'll start by saying Amazing ! I really enjoyed reading this story . I was taken from the very start . I read the entire story in one sitting . I just couldn't stop reading it's that Sensational . It's as fantastic as all of this authors stories are . Their First Time has all the feels . Mitch and Jamie are attracted to each other from the start . Both have issues and secrets from the past . Neither trust easy . Two damaged souls that are perfect for each other . Their relationship isn't easy . They both must work hard for it . This is definitely a emotional and beautiful story . The characters are wonderful , real and the challenges they face make them who they become . I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy this story . A five star read .
I have been gifted the chance to read every book M.J. Fields puts out. I make it no secret that I love her books. She always has been and always will be a go-to author for me. Their First Time is no exception to my love for M.J. and her stories.
I've loved Jamie since we met her in London and Logan's books. I love the person she is. I love the heart she has. I love how she's more than a character. I love Mitch. He's grown past his roots and is striving to be so much more. These two were meant to be together and I loved that they got their chance. I loved the arguing. I loved the making up. I loved that Mitch gave over his whole heart to Jamie. This book just had everything for me.
With each book M.J. writes, I fall more and more in love with her characters, her writing, and who she is as an author. I honestly can't wait to see what's to come next. I know it's going to be amazing!
