Fake husband. Real a--hole. As soon as I get what I want, I’m gone.
I hate Davis so much I could puke. For years I’ve hated him, ever since high school. Now he’s back in my life, and of course he’s successful and gorgeous. That’s Davis, perfect Davis, with his incredible eyes and ripped body. Most women would die to lick sweat from his arms. I’d rather swallow dirt. But he says he needs my help, and he’s offering me a ton of money. All I have to do is one simple, stupid, tiny little thing: I just have to marry him. Pretend to be his wife. Simple, right? Except nothing is simple with Davis. He’s Canadian, and his enemies want him deported. So I need to trick immigration into letting him stay. Sure, totally cool, no big deal, I lie to federal agents all the time. Except I hate him so much, I can’t think straight. I spend all night dreaming about his hands on my body. As soon as his lips touch mine and he whispers, I do, I know we’re screwed. We’re never getting away with this. Unless maybe, just maybe, we can turn this fake marriage into something real.
Hating My New Husband is a fun and exciting hate-to-love romance. It has super steamy scenes and some bad language. It’s only recommended for readers 18+. If you like men that can’t get enough of their women, lots of dirty talk, and some really hot scenes, this book is for you!
Hating My New Husband is a safe standalone novella with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA. Enjoy!!
Note: All my books are standalones and can be read in any order!
Not a new storyline, guy hires girl to marry him because immigration is on his back. Though I can’t believe that a rich CEO with a business in the US putting tax dollars into the economy would truly be threatened with deportation because of being Canadian. I mean if all these foreign actors can live in the US indefinitely then why not a billionaire CEO. But what do I know about immigration and for fictional purposes the plot works.
The ICE agent was really just on him because he was a friend of the competition and doing a favor. But Davis got Carly to marry him and she was perfect for him since they were friends in boarding school. However she has hated him ever since. She loved him in high school and he constantly used her to get girls and finally after being with her best friend he bragged about it to her and left her devastated.
Now she has debts to pay and he is paying her a lot of money to fool immigration. But things heat up between them right away. He likes to take control and she likes to let him. The romance is quite steamy and the story is short (176 pages) but fun.
Hate is probably not a strong enough word to describe what I feel for the “hero” of this book, Davis. He’s a boil on the butt of humanity. A blight on the otherwise lovely world of romance novels. I wanted the book to end with him being publicly flogged and then castratrated so that he couldn’t breed. But since I figured that probably wasn’t how the book ended, I DNFd at 36%. Here’s what I encountered up until that point:
This is a “let’s get married so that I can get my green card” romance. (It’s a role-flipped version of The Proposal, pretty much) Davis is from Canada (which I’m calling bullshit on, because I’m pretty sure jackasses like Davis don’t exist in Canada) and needs a wife to keep from getting deported. He thinks the heroine, Carly, is a good candidate since they knew each other in high school and she’s an actress. That makes sense, but I’m side-eyeing my Kindle pretty hard when instead of going to Carly and talking to her like a grown-up, Davis lures her to his home with a false advertisement for a job. So, right there I’m pissed that 1) Davis is a shady bastard, and 2) Carly shows up to a private residence based on a SUPER shady job listing that gives barely any details. (Are you stupid, Carly? Stranger danger? Ever heard of it?) At this point, I hate Davis and Carly, but I persevered, thinking maybe the story would get better.
(Spoiler alert: I was wrong. So, so wrong.)
From there, Carly, who is strapped for cash, agrees to the arrangement in exchange for 8 million dollars. I can almost understand why she agrees (I mean, that’s A LOT of money), until she gets the contract from Davis and sees that he’s added dumbass stipulations such as her having to cook for him and give him massages and please him in “various other way”. All the stupid clauses he’s added irritate her, but she almost immediately shrugs it off and signs the contract. My bullshit meter is ringing so loud at this point I can barely hear the enraged feminist in my head screaming for mercy. First of all, she’d already told Davis she had no intention of having sex with him, so the fact that she didn’t strike all that crap from the contract was completely idiotic. She has all the power in this arrangement. He’s the one about to be deported, not her. The fact that she did absolutely zero negotiating on her own behalf really pissed me off. And there isn’t a lawyer in the world who would put a vague “and other stuff” clause in a contract.
So, immediately after the wedding, Davis starts making stupid, alphahole “I own you now” comments to Carly and initiates sex, which she’s said she won’t have with him, but of course, being the doormat that she is, she almost immediately buckles.
But while all that was horrible and had me scowling at my Kindle in disgust, it was ultimately this little bit of Davis’s inner thoughts during a sex scene that made me tap out of this one (forgive the graphic nature of this quote):
“She pulls down my boxer briefs and I catch a surprised glint in her eyes when she takes my big cock in her hands. I’m thick and long, bigger than I bet she’s ever seen.”
If you do say so yourself, huh, Davis? What a humble guy.
And then a little further down the page, in case you didn’t get the subtle hint that Davis is hung like a porn star:
“She can barely fit my big cock in her mouth…”
He goes on to shove himself down her throat until she gags a few times and glares up at him, because what romance novel is complete without a dude choking off a woman’s air? (Answer: all of them should be complete without this.)
Well, all I can say is that it’s a good thing you’re well-endowed, Davis, because honestly, I see no other reason why ANY woman would tolerate you for more than a nanosecond. $8 million wouldn’t be enough to keep me from killing Davis in his sleep.
It was then that I deleted this piece of crap off my Kindle. I deleted with extreme prejudice. And I might have taken a moment or two to glare at the crazy numbers of other reviewers who actually ENJOYED the book. (What the hell, guys? Did I read a different book than y’all did?)
Long-story-short, if I believed in book burning, this would be the first one I’d sacrifice.

BB Hamel brings two people that new each other when they were in high school back together again.
Davis and Carly were best friends as teenagers. But when Davis started dating Carly's girlfriends and didn't know he was hurting Carly she walked away. Years later Davis needs help and he does everything in his power to bring Carly back into his life.
Carly is trying to make it as an actress when she is told about a job opportunity. When she finds Davis sitting there at the desk she really doesn't know where to go with all the information he is giving her. But even with all the past mistakes these two have made she is still willing to give him the help he needs.
I enjoyed this story, I will say that I found Carly childish at times (always calling Davis names) but it didn't take away from the main story.
Friends to enemies to lovers. Carly & Davis I really enjoyed their story. They are funny and sexy and can get on each other nerves but you can’t stop reading there story. This is my favorite by BB and I can’t wait too read more of her books.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Fast paced , dirty talking , enemies to lovers romance.
Steamy and passionate, definitely 18’s and over . Not bad and a quick read , good characters. Although I quite enjoyed the book, I’m pretty sure it’s not so easy to call off immigration once they get going, however I’m willing to be wrong.
Honestly, it's a terrible way to start my reading year, but I guess I have to live with the choices I make. Hating My New Husband is the story of a failed actress with some STEM knowledge who decides to answer the sketchiest job post there is because she is desperate for some financial security. The position offered, however, isn’t IT person, but wife to multimillionaire ex-classmate and ex-friend that she hates (for somewhat stupid reasons). Why he needs a wife? To commit immigration fraud.
Our FMC accepts the deal (and the millions in payment) and they get married on the very next day. I understand that he is desperate not to be deported, but shouldn't he make their relationship a bit more believable? Again, they get married the very next day after they seal their deal, in a random ceremony at his office with his employees as the guests. The FMC didn't even know they were getting married when she went to see him!
The story progresses at the same breakneck pace, with our protagonists quickly getting steamy. When they aren't doing that, the FMC is watching TV and reading about the MMC's life and cooking. And sometimes the immigration agent shows up. They have some stupid conflicts, a heart-to-heart, and a happily ever after, all of it on what feels like the cliff notes of a story. Honestly, I don't have anything positive to say about this book. The writing is flat and juvenile (and we had some great "men writing women" moments, like when the protagonist talked about her "round, perky breasts").
The characters were empty and boring, feeling more like cardboard cutouts than people. They dropped their motivations quickly, changed their minds all the time, and just didn't seem capable of one genuine human thought. Any connection formed felt forced and disingenuous, happening just because it was needed. The sex was stupid, repetitive, and boring. Even if it were well-written, I still wouldn't feel good about it, because the MMC is such a pushy asshole to the FMC that it just feels demeaning. The timeline made no sense. There was no actual enemies-to-lovers.
Waste of time, waste of money. You can find better smut on AO3, and it won't cost you a dime.
This was such a great quick read! It was beautifully written with lots of emotions packed in it! The chemistry between Carly and Davis was off the charts! Super HOT! I've read alot of books with sex involved but this books main sex scene was one of the best I've read! If you like hate to love books/second chance love stories this is a good one!
Davis needs to get married to stay in the country. Carly needs money to pay her college debts. She didn't want to see him again, not after he broke her heart in highschool. He planned it all so he could see her again. Their marriage couldn't start any worse.
I loved Carly. She's strong, passionate. She wants to act. She has tried to dedicate herself to it, but without success. Her relationship with her parents has suffered, because they don't support her. She needs a job and she accepts Davis' offer. She hates him, or so she says. She doesn't seem to have forgotten him.
She agrees to marry Davis, but she makes it clear from the beginning that it will only be a marriage of convenience. It would be easier if her body and, above all, her heart, listened to her. She cannot help but get close to him. He isn't as she believed all these years. He is much better. He defends her, he believes in her, and nobody does. She trusts him.
At first, I didn't like Davis. He was a jerk. I loved how he changed during the story, and not just Carly's perception of him. He was nice, he cares for his employees.
Davis only wanted two things, to stay in the country, and Carly. He wanted to sleep with her, he thought it was just sex, but he couldn't keep fooling himself. He wanted a lot more. He wanted it all. Never, not even before falling in love with her, did he want to hurt her. He wanted to protect her, not get her into trouble. He would give everything for her.
I loved their romance, how they go from just sex to much more. I liked how they argue at first, but I loved them when they share intimate moments, when they are honest with each other. I loved that they would do anything for the other. They had great chemistry.
I loved Avah and Jeremy.
I recommend it.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
What happens when one hurt girl and one oblivious guy meet again 10 years after he breaks her heart by choosing her best friend for his prom date instead of her? Well, this new release from BB Hamel, quickie master extraordinaire, in her Husband Hater series (which I have been really enjoying, btw) and it's a fun one with all her signature playful sexiness, great storyline and minimal angst. How I love a good BB story, I can't remember ever reading one I didn't like or love. This is a standalone and not connected in any way I could see to the others in this series.
Davis has a plan to get Carly right where he wants her, with him all the way, with a hook she won't be able to resist..she needs a job in her new field of CS and some cash for her debts but will she agree to the 'job' he's going to offer? She is shocked, disgusted and very angry to find Davis is behind this job offer and it isn't a job at all but basically an arranged marriage with plenty of incentives but can she really help him if she can't stand the cocky arrogant SOB? Well, read and see how 'persuasive' Davis can be, he'll melt your kindle with his sexy ways and sassy Carly will crack you up as she tries to put him in his place.
A sweet 'quickie' that left me with a happy feeling and a good ending. Bring me some more Haters..I LOVE them!
A MUST-BUY hate-to-love Romance! Don’t let the book title keep you from reading what is arguably the BEST hate-to-love romance to hit Kindles this year! Author B.B. Hamel has done it again – written a MUST-BUY story which romance readers will LOVE! “HATING MY NEW HUSBAND,” Hamel’s newest character-centered romance tells the unlikely story of Carly and Davis. Carly desperately needs a job to pay off the debt she has incurred from getting the degree her estranged parents wanted her to choose over being an actress. Davis needs Carly to help him beat a sketchy immigration investigation. Their chemistry is explosive, and their romance is that thin line between love and hate. Using dual narration to allow her readers to gain a deep understanding of the motivations, decision making, and changing emotions of her characters, author Hamel presents an emotional tale illustrating the proverb: love can conquer all! Additionally, Hamel’s eloquent prose and descriptive style of writing also allows readers to focus on the twisty yet compelling plotline which will entertain them for hours. I voluntarily read a copy of “HATING MY NEW HUSBAND” and this is my honest voluntary review. I strongly recommend that romance readers get their copies of “HATING MY NEW HUSBAND” today! Happy pages! 😉
Wosa! The latest in the standalone series of Hate to love reads by BB Hamel has me feeling all kinds of ways!
The hate to love factor in this fake marriage of convenience tale comes with some extreme emotional whiplash! I love Ms. Hamel's stories for there unique outside the box, and sometimes no holds barred characters that amp up all my senses- this one Oh, My. I had thoughts- not nice ones-to clarify- these thoughts were not based around the author- but the main characters, Carly and Davis. I did not like them. Now, here is the thing, when I find myself in this position I debate on whether or not the story intrigues me enough to keep going - see if maybe the character(s) grow on me- or I come to terms with it by the end and all is well. ( because it's all fiction and in the grand scheme of things that really matters.) I kept on, intrigued, did my mind change? Nope. I still think they're both somewhat selfish, entitled, money hunger "actors." BUT. I loved their chemistry, and the hot, fast-paced, furiously twisting plots, and the throwing punches storyline! When I thought it would go one way it surprised me by veering off another way! So, while these two are by far not favorite protagonists to date from this author, I still felt this book was worth the read!
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We meet out of work actress Carly desperate need of a job when her bff shows her an ad for a tech firm. Carly thinks is too good 2 b true but she needs job. When she shows up at a house she is told what the business is and she knows immediately who the owner is...Davis...the man she hates more than anything. Davis was the brainiac behind getting Carly to his house and he has a proposition she can't refuse.....marry him for immigration purposes and never have to worry about money again. Carly hates him with a passion but needs the money so she agrees to be his wife. The next thing carly knows is she's being put in her wedding dress and walking down the aisle. Davis is a bonified jerk who always gets what he wants and he wants Carly. The marriage is a sham...his old partner has immigration breathing down his neck. Will davis be able to convince carly this is the right thing to do? Will carly get over her hatred for him and what happened in the past? Will she learn the truth? There is more than meets the eye in their "marriage."
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the third book in the Hate to Love series. In this book, Carly answers an ad in the newspaper for a tech job that is vague in it's description. When Carly arrives, she learns it is for her former friend Davis. Davis and Carly went to high school together and Cary was in love with him, until he dated her best friend and then bragged about it, breaking her heart. Davis is now a billionaire and owns his own tech company. Davis is also Canadian and a business rival arranged for him to be investigated by immigration, so Davis wants Carly to marry him so he can stay in the country. Carly agrees when Davis agrees to pay her. They marry right away and Davis wants the marriage to have all the benefits of being married. Carly first said no sex, but Davis persists. Things are going well and Carly has been learning about Davis's life, and the more she gets to know him now, the harder it is for her to hate him. Davis is also facing his feelings for Carly. I really enjoyed this book, i loved the humor Davis used and i think he really did care about Carly. Another good one from BB.
A quick read with intense emotions. Davis and Carly go way back. He was everything to her back in high school but he never realized it. He cut her deep when he went after one of her closest friends and the bragging didn’t stop. That’s when she cut him out of her life. Years later, he’s in a bind and Carly is what he needs to get through it. A fake wife is the job she didn’t realize she was applying for. Money always smoothed things over and that’s her motivator for going along with the story. Soon the lust that never went away takes over. That intimacy brings back that old spark that never quite went away and real feelings develop. Is it really real though? With government agents hanging over their heads and the threat of jail time in their future, they have to succeed at this little game they are playing. It gets all to real when family gets involved. They have to decide what really matters the most to them and how far they are willing to go. It was an ok read. It didn’t really grab me. You escape for a little while but it isn’t memorable. I’ve read others like this and it gets just lost within those stores.
What a great story to start out the new year! This is one hot, sexy, funny love hate story about Davis and Carly who were friends in high school. Carly was in love with Davis and he had no idea. Davis broke Carly’s heart when he dated her best friend. Years later Carly did not become successful as an actress and ends up with a degree in IT so when her friend shows her a job posting she goes to find a different kind of job offer! Davis has become very successful and needs to marry to keep from being deported back to Canada. Davis offers her a deal Carly can not turn down and they have a very interesting married life. I loved their banter and connection along with the strong feelings that grow between them. Once Carly realizes her hate of Davis is misplaced does Davis also she a real future and love with Carly. This is one special love story between two beautiful people. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Hating my new husband is a great story. Loved the characters she created.
Great story about Davis, a billionaire who owns a tech company and Carly the girl he let get away. They knew each other from back in high school when Davis was the leading man of all Carl's dreams. She had a mad crush on him and at the time he only saw her as a friend.
When these two finally come together again it is to go through a fake marriage so that Davis can stay in America with his company. Carly hates him at first but when he offers her 5 million dollars she quickly asks for 8 million dollars and they shake on it. The next day they are quickly married and Davis wants more than just her hand. He wants it all.
What happens when they get together? Do things actually go for better or for worse? Great short story by B.B. Hemel. Must read more of her stories as she has a great intensity in her story.
This is the second chance they never thought they would get!! I love that this is set in Philly, but that aside I loved this story! Carly and David went to boarding school together and were best friends, though she was in love with him and he never realized it. The final straw came when he hooked up with her friend and bragged about it to her. Years later Carly finds herself answering an ad for a job, having no idea Davis set it up to see her. She needs money desperately and he needs a wife asap! She hates the arrangement, and him at first but there is a fine line between love and hate. As she begins to see the man underneath the cocky exterior she can't help but begin to fall for him. Is the feeling mutual? What happens when their arrangement in danger of being found out? No spoilers!! Just click it now!!
Carly and Davis knew each other back when they were growing up. They were friends but Davis never knew why Carly stopped talking to him. Davis now needs help and he turns to Carly. Immigration is after him thanks to a business rival and he needs a wife in order to stay. So he approaches Carly with an arrangement. Carly wants to be debt free but isn't sure she can handle being around Davis. They go into their marriage thinking its temporary however its not long before that all changes. Can Davis show Carly that he is sorry for what he did? Will they end up together?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
This was a good read. The writing flowed well, and this was an enemies to lovers story. That actually is a little tame. Carly HATED Davis. I felt like her anger was a little unjustified. I understand young love, and how much everything hurts when you're a teenager. Was Davis a jerk? Yes, yes he was. Did he know that Carly liked him? No, no he did not. If they would have been actual boyfriend/girlfriend, I could see the anger. Anyway, they do have good chemistry in their current situation. Carly began to see Davis in a different light pretty quickly, and vice versa. I liked Avah and Jeremy as secondary characters. Carly's parents were crazy, and it was hard to see the anger Carly's dad had toward her. The ending was sweet, and perfect for these characters. I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I loved Carly and Davis’ story. Carly and Davis used to be best friends until he broke her heart. She swore never to speak to her again. Years later and she needs a job and ends up in an interview with Davis. He needs her for a job, but not with his company, but personally. He thinks Carly would be perfect to be his fake wife. This was such a great story and the characters are fantastic. I loved the banter and head butting between Carly and Davis. There were times when I wanted to smack Davis up the head, but I did soften to him. Will misunderstandings and miscommunication of the past come between what they can have now? You can see their chemistry and connection by the way they act and react towards each other. I got so into this story that I didn’t realize I was at the end until there were no more pages to read.
I've always loved anything written by B. B. Hamel and this story is no exception. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't put it down until I finished. The plot was standard; however, the twist and turns were not. The story-line flowed smoothly throughout. I loved the characters. Their chemistry was hot. They were developed and easily relatable to me. It always amazes me how men can be clueless. Everyone else could see Carly loved Davis back in high school. He was shocked by her revelation and surprised he didn't see it then. I loved the scene when Davis meets Carly's parents. I loved how Davis stood up for Carl (though she didn't need him to). I was whooping and yelling at that scene. How a parent can treat a child like that, I don't know.....I can't wait to read what Ms. Hamel has for us next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
The bottom line is this book is not for me, and i'm really sorry but this review might as well be a rant so just scroll through it if you disagree with me. Yep the husband is straight up controlling asshole, i can't understand the heroine she change from cold to hot in seconds, the story is too shotgun, the conflict solved too.. easy i think. I almost dnf it around 70% of the story.. it turned to erotic and i don't like how he seems implicitly saying that she's his now that they married and her opinion about her body (whether she want sex or not) doesn't really matter because he knew she's turned on or attracted to him eventhough she's angry and wants to deny it, it just doesn't sit well with me. Yes it's a short story but it doesn't mean it has to be a long story to become a great story.
This is a quick romance that centers around Davis, a self made billionaire who went to school with Carly whose aspirations were to be an actress. They were friends in high school; that is until Davis went out with Carly's best friend. Did he not know Carly had actual feelings for him? That's what turned Carly's feeling for Davis from love to hate especially the way he'd go on about Carly's best friend.
Now years later and they meet again and some things have changed. Davis is still hot as ever but now he has a ton of money and Carly...well she is not an actress but she still hates Davis for how he broke her heart. Now that propositions are made who will come out on top? Will either of them have their heart in tack once this plays out?
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I really loved this book. Carly and Davis were amazing. The banter between them was off the charts. Carly and Davis were friends in school and unbeknownst to him she was in love with him and he broke her heart to pieces. Now when Davis is in need of a huge favor will Carly help him out? He offers her a deal she may not be able to resist, can she resist his charms? She hates him or does she? When she begins to learn more about Davis she begins to understand why he is the way he is. So much sweetness here, they are sexy, steamy and deliciously hot, no spoilers from me, this is a must read for 2019!
