Dr Rebecca Ray is a writer, speaker and clinical psychologist. She invites you to contemplate your true self, in its bravest form: the self that is still asking questions. The self that is seeking wisdom. And the self that's determined to stay open to the possibilities of a life inspired.
Dr Rebecca Ray is a clinical psychologist, author and speaker who helps big-picture-thinking people master their psychology. Over the course of two decades of consultations, speaking events, books, and audio, she has encouraged thousands of humans making an impact on the world to live a life that's fulfilling, unapologetic, and free.
Beck’s expertise as a professional zig-zagger sets her apart as one of Australia’s most in-demand and authoritative voices in the personal development space. Her science-backed, hard and heart truth approach is uniquely informed by her pivots from pilot to psychologist, from dating men to marrying a woman, and from being burnt out to bestselling author.
Beck is the author of six books, including Be Happy, The Art of Self-Kindness, The Universe Listens to Brave, Setting Boundaries, Small Habits for a Big Life, and Difficult People (released in May 2023).
She lives in the soul-fed hills of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland with the great loves of her life: her wife Nyssa, son Bennett, two rescue Irish Setters and one gangly Weimaraner.
*Thank you to Pan Macmillan Australia for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*
Happy release day to this beautiful book. Some of you are probably thinking a self-help book? This isn’t her usual gig? And you would be right, I don’t read many self-help books as a lot of them don’t call to me and don’t seem like they are what I need. However as soon as read the title and synopsis of this book I knew I needed to give it a go! You see I have always been someone who overthinks and therefore struggles to do the brave things. I was also diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder at the start of this year and this book sounded like it could help or at the very least provide some inspiring words.
This book did not disappoint me right from the get go the reading experience is made special just from the visual beauty of the book. The cover is stunning, and the inside is just as pretty with pink monochrome pages throughout. It would make a great gift for a mum or sister based on the visual appeal alone.
Just like the physical appearance of the book the words within are just as beautiful and just as inspiring as I thought. Rebecca relates to the reader by explaining her own experiences with anxiety and trying to live life bravely. And the large amounts of quotes, affirmations and mantras throughout made me feel inspired and like I am not alone in any of the things I am feeling.
In conclusion, this book is absolutely stunning inside and out. I recommend it to anyone who struggles with living bravely or anxiety or really anyone looking for a hit of inspiration. The only reason this read is not 5 stars for me is because not every single mantra resonated with me. Which is fine! The words that did resonate with me have left a hopefully lasting impression. Which is why I am rating this read 4.5 out of 5 stars.
A beautiful quick read, the book is filled with short introductions to each mantra, a small activity to practice the mantra and followed by some carefully thought out quotes. A nice reference/ a small pick me up if you find yourself struggling with any of the areas in your day to day life.
This is a trad pub book, so all publishing decisions are made by the publishers. I borrowed it from my library, opened it in the phone app and was completely unable to read it. Instead of uploading the text files, the publishers have chosen to upload each page as an image. It looks lovely, the paper is textural, the images are pretty pink and grey watercolours, the font a pale grey Garamond or whatever it is.
And I can't read it. I have to zoom in and then drag the image left to right to read ONE LINE. It would be utterly exhausting to read the whole book like this.
All the usual tools to change the font size or make it a dyslexic friendly font are turned OFF for this title.
I like Dr Bec, so I have gone ten steps more, downloaded the desktop app for Libby and downloaded the book through that, but now I have to sit at my desk and read it; not my usual place for reading.
And I repeat, it is a very pretty book, but it is not accessible in eBook, so read it in the physical copy if you can. If I see it out there, I will probably grab it, it's the kind of thing you need to dip into when you need it, not read from cover to cover.
Another AMAZING and INSPIRING book by Dr. Rebecca Ray, like in her book " The art of self-kindness" I found this book in a time of great need, after my second suicide attempt I came across both books at my local library and instantly fell in love.
It's pages are beautiful with artistic elements throughout, it's message- BE BRAVE and BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!
*An absolute must have for anyone seeking help in times of increased anxiety and depression.
I wish I could afford my own copy but if you've got $20 to spare, I highly recommend spending it on this gorgeous little book.
“The Universe Listens to the Brave” by Dr Rebecca Ray is a delightful book to hold, read and looks so beautiful. It would make a heartfelt gift for friends or family wanting to be courageous and brave.
“Choosing courage is choosing to accept whatever shoes go in the experience of creating the life you want to live.”

“ I don’t know what the future is going to look like. But I do know that the one you participate in creating will look very different from the one that you let happen.”
Beck is am incredible writer and I am so glad I came across her Instagram, which lead me to finding this book. She writes from experience and from the heart and you can tell it is 100% authentic. Must read for anyone struggling with healing
Packs a lot of punch in a small size. Fantastic messages and mantras to affirm and grow your courage. So glad I bought it, I love Rebecca Ray's Instagram content. Going to gift this one many times.
