Any hopes of creative fulfillment are crushed when twenty-six year-old Thomas O'Hollaren is forced to abandon his starving-artist's lifestyle and return home to Seattle to run the family business. Stuck in limbo and unavoidable guilt regarding his past relationship with his father, Thomas finds an unexpected friendship that begins to challenge his pessimism towards people, love, and faith.
Optimistically waiting for her one true love is proving to be challenging and incredibly frustrating for Maura McCormick. She begins to doubt if she has the spiritual wherewithal to meet the standards of the devout dating pool of Blessed Sacrament Church. As she struggles to determine what level of holiness is required for the committed, romantic love she craves, it is Maura's inherit desire to care for those in need that may end up leading her away from what, and who, she always thought would make her happy.
Full disclosure: The author is a friend of mine, so I might be a bit biased... 😉
This a quick, fun read! I really like the main character, Maura. I can relate to her as she’s a social worker with youth and so am I. (In fact, that’s how I met the author!) I love how the author included real-life tidbits about being a social worker. The challenging part for me about this book was the Catholicism. At first I wasn’t even sure I could get into the book. Religion is a challenging subject for me as one of my parents is Jewish and the other is Lutheran. I consider myself agnostic as an adult. With that being said, it helped me learn some things about Catholicism I didn’t know. I also appreciate how Maura is more a “liberal” Catholic compared to some of the “extremists” in the book. It helps put religion into perspective and it’s a good reminder of how different people practice spirituality. I also really like the character of Thomas. He seems like a typical 20-something trying to find his way in life. The connection Maura and Thomas share is interesting. I can’t wait to read book #2 to find out what happens next!
This would be a 4.5 if there were half stars on here.
I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait for book 2. This book was engaging and inspiring. I absolutely loved how likable and relatable both Thomas and Maura’s characters were. Maura’s inner dialogue had me laughing and also portrayed such accuracy for dating in the mid twenties- slightly awkward and sarcastic demeanor. Thomas in really felt a connection with as he journeyed through his feelings of grief over his father’s death, but also coming back to be with family after time away. I enjoyed his prospective of what was going on between his feelings with Maura.
Thank you Suzanne for trusting me with reviewing your book! I am so glad I got to read it and hope others enjoy these two as much as I do
Even for someone who isn't Catholic and knows nothing about it, I was totally able to get into the plot. I liked the characters! Definitely realistic portrayal of that phase of life, trying to figure it all out while everyone around you seems to have it all together! It sucked me in and I can't wait to read the next book!!
Steam Rating: 1 Star Rating: B/c this ends on such a cliffhanger I am going to wait to give my full star rating until I read book #2. :)
This read is a little different for me, but I really enjoyed it! I LOVE books in dual perspectives and the author did a great job writing this in dual perspective! I adored Maura and found myself really rooting for her throughout the story. Thomas kind of got on my nerves a little bit, but I’m excited to see his character growth in the next book. We got hints of it in this book so I think he’s on an interesting journey!
While I am not a practicing Catholic the majority of my family is and I felt this book was written very true to the faith and practices. It was easy to picture the story and feel like I was part of Thomas and Maura’s journey. Life is hard and messy and complicated and these two have quite the path to forge. I’m looking forward to book #2 to see how their journey ends.
Thank you so much to Suzanne Glidewell for gifting me a copy of your book in exchange for my honest review!
Look, if you give me a friends to lovers situation then I’m going to eat it up every. single. time.
But this book is different - it’s genuinely funny (which is such a rarity) but it also has so much heart to it. You find yourself wanting so much happiness for both characters & you believe they DESERVE this happiness.
The writing moves quickly enough that the story doesn’t feel stale, but it really gives the chance for the characters to breathe & develop well. It’s cliche af to say this - but it really is like a good bottle of wine.
I’m immediately starting book #2 & I can’t wait to see where this goes.
My only critique is the pacing was a little uneven (or maybe it was just my focus level). I really enjoyed this one! The writing quality was impressive, particularly the distinctive voices of the two narrators. It’s easy to get invested in the will-they-won’t-they relationship between Maura & Thomas, as well as each of their individual journeys. The religion aspect is compelling & unique to a romance book. I started the sequel immediately & can’t wait to see where all of the characters end up!
This author has such a gift for creating three dimensional characters that are easy to root for. I gladly devoured this. I’ll be immediately continuing with book 2 to see what else is in store for Thomas and Maura.
This book is so fun, such a fresh voice in romance! Suzanne Glidewell's debut is a sweet romance with themes of home and self-discovery set in Seattle. As someone who recently moved to WA, I enjoyed the references to Seattle-specific beers and neighborhoods that I have been in the process of exploring. Her characters are incredibly easy to root for, both multi-dimensional and loveable.
Catholicism and faith sit center-stage in this story, which in the beginning I found difficult to read as a Boston Catholic whose family left the church after the 2001 abuse revelations. Glidewell has a really beautiful way of writing about faith that brings a lot of depth to the story, so I found myself able to enjoy the story despite my own experiences in Catholicism.
I think readers of romance will absolutely fall head over heels for these characters and for this sweet love story. Due to self-publishing page limits, "Somewhere in Between" contains the first half of the story, so you want to make sure that you also have the second book "Somewhere Unexpected" as the first book doesn't have it's own ending and the two should be ready together as one book.

Loved this book! It's funny and heartfelt. The subject matter is heavy, but it's handled well (and with well timed humor and levity). Loved the main characters! They were both so dang likable! Their back and forth (and authentic feeling dialog!) was perfection. I loved the FMC’s open-mindedness and love for others. And that cliffhanger! Starting book 2 immediately.
Somewhere in Between tells the story of Thomas and Maura. Thomas has returned home after trying to make a go of a career in art to step in and run the family business after his father dies. Maura wants to find true love but hasn't been very lucky with the people in her church circles.
When this book first crossed my path, I passed it along to some friends because generally very religious main characters aren't my jam. However, I got to know the author via Instagram and she is so funny and kind. I love reading her captions and hearing her stories, and thought "If I like reading her Instagram captions so much I should probably try her books." So I went and bought a copy for myself and it was truly a delight to read. Suzanne's humor shines through and the characters are so real. I really enjoyed the banter between Maura & Thomas, and the side characters are so fun too. This is book one, which you definitely need to read before book two. This is a great, quick read with more depth than a rom com, but plenty of lightness to keep it from feeling too heavy.
What a lovely book. I started just chuckling along to the cradle Catholic comments, some hitting fairly close to home. I stayed for the journey these characters went on. I'm diving right into Book 2 to continue to hear Thomas and Maura's story.
I absolutely adore Maura and also want to shake her sometimes 😂 this is such a compelling story with lovely and real characters - it feels like I’ve met these people before. And it’s funny as hell!
