When a portal opens in a distant enclave city, Gryff and his monster response team find that the Shadowscape creatures are becoming smarter and more organized.
Someone, or something, is leading them.
Now Gryff finds that he, and the three women he loves, are all that stands between the hordes of evil monsters and humanity.
Things are starting to get a bit more dangerous. The monsters are no longer mindless and are actually attacking with strategy. There might be more to these monster attacks than anyone knows. Nia is starting to open up and little more and while I still don't consider this a "harem" book, this one did have more of the elements in it. Nia is having sex with Gryff, so is Lydia, they both know he is sleeping with both of them so maybe they can all have fun together? I did think that Gryff was getting a little whiny, expecting too much of everyone else. When something happens that no one has ever seen before he gets pissed off that his teachers don't immediately know what to do. He also gets upset when he finds out they don't know everything about the portals and why the show up. Still, it is a very good story. I really enjoy all the relationships and the complexity of all the characters (surprisingly Gryff is the least complex character out of everyone). There were new monsters and new strategies on how to win in fights. I am impressed that the author keeps coming up with new and interesting ways for Gryff to use his monsters and win fights.
Again this series improves with another story. I find my self more and more interested in the events of the world, and where the story is going.
The Main Character is still a little bland and un-relatable. Lacking flaws that provide depth to the character. The supporting characters are much more enjoyable, and they really hold up the story.
I will continue reading the Summoner Series with high hopes for a consistently improving story.
The story was good and made me stay up way too late to finish it. Overall it was good and the characters are continuing to get more backstory and development. The books are getting better and better.
“We have a reputation, definitely,” she said softly, “but only a fool wouldn’t be afraid. And fear is okay. Fear is what makes humanity better. Fear makes us sharper, more cautious. Overcoming our fears is what makes us stronger. So, fear isn’t bad. It’s what we do with it that defines us.” - Nia (my fav char so far) Those lines set the tone for this book. This book was the culmination of everything built up in the previous ones- Epic battles, big revelations, serious developments, questions, answers and more questions.
I like how detailed the post-battle recovery scenes were. How they came into terms with the destruction, the weight of their responsibilities and therein, their own helplessness in the greater scale of things. More importantly, it made the MC question himself and his motivations for being a hero and if he is doing the right thing. I absolutely Hate the typical ‘hero’ mentality, moreso for those with shallow reasonings. And that aspect of the MC here has annoyed me for quite the while now. But this book shed more light on that and convinced to an extent that his aspirations are more than just a lazy plot device. And though I’m still not any fonder of such MCs, I can chew on this and this has resolved my biggest issue with this series.
Now I’m excited for what’s to come esp. for how he comes to see the story from the side of the monsters and eventually accept some of them into his side. I’ve always had this thing for those depicted as the bad guys and often end up rooting for them when they have similarly strong motivations for doing what they do. Afterall reality is often not about right or wrong but the conclusion drawn based on the perspective one is looking from. And what is considered by the majority as ‘good’. One nation’s War Hero is often the mass murderer of another. And I love it when authors explore this aspect and craft complex characters with grey moralities beyond the plain black/white.
I have it till book 3 and I'm done. Somehow our mc has gone from a respectable level of confidence to either overly confident at an annoying level or an unsure wet bag of rags. The girls that were strong willed and fun? Playthings for mc. He even makes a comment about molding one girl how he wants her while she's vulnerable.
The "threats" in the story never feel like a threat. Our summoner is always able to handle something that we're made to believe is squad destroyingly strong. All these years no one has ever experimented as a summoner?
Initially I was apprehensive about this book as the cover seemed to suggest the story might be a little heavy on the romance. The magic system started off great and I loved the rather unique approach to summoning.
I do actually like how the character relationships develop over time and have depth but the books are too focused on sex for my taste. The hero also failed grow magically or personally at all in the books instead he is awesome and perfect at everything. Awesomeness is good but at this point he life is too pefect and too easy.
Still very much like the story and characters. Although I must say I don’t like the magic system. No matter what fight they’re in they have the constant threat of mana depletion. They are so weak because of it. Gryff and depletion my mana by using a grade c monster for 5 minutes which is insane. I do t know if he’ll ever get OP but I really want him to be more. At this point he would still be more useful as a oneshot summoner with a grade B or A monster. It’s still early but the books are tiny and theres only 22 books so I hope progression starts soon.
While the plot had finally started (book 3 btw), but alas I cannot take the MC's/Narrator style of monologue and constant reminders and stupid explanation and overall poor writing style. It is just too annoying to read this. Metal mage had problems with pacing and but had improved the aforementioned narrative style. I had some hopes since this was not "isekai" and so we weren't gonna get obscene amount of popculture references. But this Did not have strong supporting cast and the main character was annoying to read.
Another hit and stunner from Vall. The story is really ramping up! I also must say his harem is growing quite nicely! This on that front is great! The last battle was purely epic! I only hope he got some sweet rewards from that… truly, I also hope he starts to grow his powers more.mi know it’s still early in the series but I hope our hero starts to work with bigger monsters and more impressive combinations… but the books are progressing rather well. Onwards to the next book and more adventures!
Winning takes a toll, and doing the impossible with out understanding why it worked has a price. And finding your teachers don’t know all the answers is a little depressing. The price of growth is a heavy burden for our young hero. And the threat from the unknown intelligence controlling the monster attacks is growing as they begin to assault the enclave strongholds. A good read.
I am really enjoying the Summoner Story, it is one of my favourites as the characters are well rounded and not 2 dimensional and most are fairly relatable and enjoyable to read about. I’m surprised more of the male side characters don’t give Griff more crap about all the girls that seem to fall for him (some have started).
The first two books were better, in that there was more character development and build up. Book three exercises the formula used in the first two books, but lacked development and detail. Gryff and Nia’s relationship progressed but other than a similar fighting monster formula, not much else happened. Book 4 is on my radar.
It's always nice for an unknown person to make a stand and become a Hero in the eyes of others. This is that kind of story and yes the guy gets the girl (s) in the end (and front...)... I'm really enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
These books are a light, fun read. They could use a bit of editing of sentence structure and such. There is a fair bit of rather gratuitous sex that slows things down to the point that I have even skimmed through the scenes.
That said, the magic is interesting and this is a nice palette cleanser, so to speak.
Less of unnecessary writing, and more action sequences are a welcome relief. The MC and sidekicks have no character progression to speak of in a major way even though we are onto the 3rd installment of this series. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
So far this has been an incredible series and I both regret and am happy that I just started it. This book furthers the tale of why our MC is a hero and brings his relationships with new and old characters into focus. The fights are well written and help make the book one to put down.
Good action and, this time, a strong plot. The characters remain solid, the mechanics of the world expand, and the world feels a little more lived in than before. On top of that, this one is a much more cohesive story, and it feels like it caps off the first three books in a way.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I nearly read this in a single seating. The monster attacks grow worse as the hero summer tries to deal with his new reality. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures.. This book is definitely worth reading.
Been trying to remember if it was someone from my book club or someone from Twitter that recommended this book... Or it it was one of those hyped things you stumble upon that made me get the first 4 books and add to my to read list.
Sigh. The main character harem style of life annoys me. Yes us guys can play the scoundrel and date multiple girls, (just like females do as well) but don't sell the idea to me that ALL the girls liked the idea of being on one guy's harem. That goes well against the average female's nature
Really enjoyed this book, the series as a whole seems to be moving in a very interesting direction and I’m eager to find out what Eric does with this. Keep up the great work.
I just love this series of books. They are both funny and full of action. They have a good storyline and keep you guessing what will happen next. I can’t wait for the next book. It’s a great book, I highly recommend it.
Good book. Good characters. Not to much sex, but enough to make it seem a little more authentic. Normally it fades to black or the people in the book just never have sex. The rest of the story fit well and I can't wait for the 4th.
Good series and this book was no exception. Griff, aka hero, spends most of his time in battle with monsters and in between battles in bed with his ladies. The plot thickens as the monsters ramp it up. Can't wait to next round.
A continuation of the incredible entwined with the normal, made interesting and engaging through craftsmanship and hard work. It’s difficult to say where the story is going, and that’s part of the fun. Definitely recommended.
I started this book about 3 days ago and I could not stop reading it! I did not even realize I got to last page until I read “end of book 3”! Highly recommend reading this series.
Gryf and his team struggle to close the rifts and clash with the mysterious force that seems to be directing the Rift attacks. Our hero's are slowly turning the tide and learning how to better take the fight to rifts. This series just keeps getting better!
3.5. A real palette cleanser. I felt the story really picked up with learning more about the Shadowscape and their plans. Characters are fairly one-note but good action and good use of summoned demons.
Gryff He's really trying to understand what's going on The monsters are attacking humans at thinking in creating battle plans so it's a new game and he's trying to figure out what's going on
Great story, wonderful characters, and an inspiring plot that keeps the reader guessing. Top notch read, but that is what I would expect from a writer of this quality. Looking forward to Book 4!
