Delightful, charming, and well written book about 5 generations of quirky and independent women who live or have lived in The House on Perry Street in Greenwich Village. They each have their own story to tell, but all are interrelated. The book leaps back and forth across time as each woman's story is revealed. A very fun and enjoyable read.
This is a "nice" book. It's a simple read, with a compelling (enough) story line to encourage the reader to turn the page. There are several themes - the meaning of family, the lengths humans traverse in search of God, and how love rules. There are multi generations of strong women, whose interesting stories weave a saga which ultimately is part of the a house on Perry Street. This is a good "beach" or "airplane" book which won't take too much concentration or reflection.
i started reading this book after finishing summer by edith wharton so it took me a second to get into it—two very different styles. in house on perry street, bushell asks the reader to suspend disbelief, introducing us to one family living in magical realism new york city over the course of a century and a half.
