Penguin Young Readers has acquired the next three novels in author Rick Yancey’s bestselling YA alien invasion series, The 5th Wave, the publisher announced Tuesday.
After the initial trilogy’s third installment, The Last Star, was released last year, Yancey says he is looking forward to taking the stories around these characters even further. “The fates of all the characters introduced in the first three books will be resolved,” the author said in a release. “New characters, surprising twists, non-stop action, and the ultimate battle for the planet – all await fans as The 5th Wave roars on!”
A No. 1 New York Times best-seller, The 5th Wave series has sold to date over 3.6 million copies, and is beloved by fans and critics alike. The film version of the first novel, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, was released last year. There is no word yet on titles or plots for the next trilogy, but fans can start getting excited for publication of the first book, slated for publication in the spring of next year.

I chose to read this book because it was recommended to me by a friend who said she enjoyed it a lot. But also it’s a tense book, as in it’s filled with action and thrilling adventures. The author Rick Yancey always had a passion for books ever since he was little. Like any author, he’s very creative but Rick comes up with the craziest ideas to write about. His first approach to the fifth wave series was inspired by his wife while they had a three a.m talk.

5th wave is about the earth going through an alien apocalypse. Cassie is a 16-year-old girl who has to try to survive alone until she meets a boy named Evan Walker who is a big help to her in survival. She lost her mother to the third wave, her father to the fourth and her brother to the most recent wave. She’s one of the last few survivors left of the human race. Now all Cassie has left is Evan. They both must have each other’s backs at all times if they want to live.

I would say my response to how the book was written is positive. I’m not a person that enjoys reading very much especially long books. But the style of the book kept me interested. The way the author puts everything together and how he describes certain situations makes it feel more real. In one part of the story, Cassie says “I would kill for a cheeseburger. Honestly, If I stumbled across someone eating a cheeseburger I would kill them for it.” that shows how she would do anything for just a burger since pretty much all her luxuries were taken away after the waves. But I also like how the author added that because it added a bit of humor to help narrow down all the crazy events that happened.

I enjoyed the concept of alien invasion. I was never a huge fan of science fiction but ‘fifth wave’ has to be by far one of my favorite books out of all the books I’ve read in my life. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I like that its put in a dystopian setting because that goes very well with the story. Overall the book is well thought out and a great read for people who enjoy science fiction or like the hunger games series.

This is a science fiction book.
I gave it a 5 stars. It really drew you in from the beginning. Its a great story about Cassie and how she loses her parents and her keeping a promise to her brother Sam. That she wouldn't leave him. After Sam was kidnapped she must find her way back to him. Cassie has to learn who to trust and who not to. She finds Evan to help her which turns into a love story. But he's different than any other human. Its a good book. I highly recommend it.

Couldn't finish. It's a great story from what I remember and an easy read, but not what I wanted to be reading
