Just after 7 AM on June 30th 1908 a massive air blast occurred over Tunguska in Siberia - the Tunguska event - caused by a meteorite or comet fragment. It will happen again, it's just a question of where and when...

Robert Spire, environmental lawyer, newly recruited to the UK's GLENCOM - Global Environmental Command - Unit is propelled into a roller coaster adventure through London, America and the Bahamas as he searches for the cause of some mysterious whale deaths. As the clues unfold, nothing can prepare him or the world, for the cataclysm that is about to unfold.

Roberts Spire's greatest adventure may be the world's last...

MYSTERIOUS WHALE DEATHS...

When the World's largest ever creature - a blue whale - dies in front of Robert Spire on his local Welsh beach, the UK's Department of the Environment and local population are ill prepared. When a second whale washes up dead on Myrtle Beach on the opposite side of the Atlantic, the scientific community starts asking questions.

A QUEST FOR METEORITE FRAGMENTS...

Environmental lawyer Robert Spire; newly recruited to the UK's Global Environmental Command Unit - GLENCOM, flies over to South Carolina to investigate. Whilst there, he teams up with marine biologist Dr Sally Rivea, also assigned to the case. Meanwhile, ex-marine Travis Dexter is on the run in Nevada after he discovers the body of his employer - philanthropist Julian Smithies - murdered in his home. The only object missing; a recently discovered, rare and valuable meteorite.

A FUTURE GLOBAL CATACLYSM...

On the island of Exuma In the Bahamas, four sport divers make a startling discovery at the bottom of Mystery Cave blue hole. Sixty miles offshore in the Caribbean Sea, drilling on the Proteus oil rig turns to disaster as the drill penetrates something hard on the ocean floor. Dr Rivea, at a loss to explain the high levels of the mineral olivine discovered in the whale's tissue samples, accompanies Spire to the Caribbean in search of answers, but what they discover doesn't bear thinking about...

Impact Point
Robert Spire Thriller, Book 2
By: Simon Rosser
Narrated by: David Loving
This is an audio book I requested and the review is voluntary. This is the kind of book I love and there aren't enough of them. It starts with blue whales beaching themselves and dying. Then someone trying to stop the research on it. From this , there is people that are dangerous, killers, kidnappers, and more. It weaves a story all over the world, and so fascinating!
The narration was great!

This is the second novel by this author that I have read, and this will not be the last. This novel is an excellent mix of eco-thriller, sc-fi, adventure all rolled into one. We all know from our general knowledge and movies about doomsday predictions, of the Earth being devasted by an asteroid hit, or even Hollywood's attempt at stopping such space rocks from hitting the Earth, and yet this novel does not appear stale or uninteresting. The author seems to have done reasonable amounts of research to present sound scientific facts, and has done an admirable job of using the science to tell an entertaining story. The novel is unpretentious, and there are no indications of an overreach by the author -- he confines himself to his knowledge and research to tell a tale in simple, lucid English. The ebook edition has a few editing errors, and the formatting is a tad clumsy (mainly, the chapters start from a mid page or the page bottom), though. Overall, very highly recommended.

"An Amazing Environmental Mystery Thriller"

This is a very complex, exciting mystery that actually could be written in three novels. So here, you get it all and read to the end as all the stories collide into one. Remember learning about the Tunguska, Russia, devastation when a large meteorite struck in the Siberian forest? Well, asteroids are even threatening earth in modern times. This is the story which introduces you to Robert Spire, who works at the newly operational Global Environmental Command (GLENCOM), part of the British MI6 complex. Prior to training months for this new job, he practiced environmental law at his law firm in west Wales, which is now mostly managed by his assistant, Kim. The mission of GLENCOM is to monitor the earth from an environmental standpoint. The numerous screen monitors reflect the different oceans of the world, showing salinity, acidity, current direction, and ocean levels, as well as monitoring rain forests, deserts, weather, air quality, and fresh water. Much information comes via Global Earth System of Systems (GEOSS) and also NOAA, NASA's Near Earth Asteroid Tracking Programs, and NSIDC.

Travis Dexter, previously of the U.S. Army where he served in the Middle East, now works for a very wealthy California man, Julian Smithies. He's on a mission to find out what two men are trying to sell at a small rare earth gem and mineral store in Nevada. He is not the only man tracking the two men who are trying to sell something in a very heavy case. This results in three deaths at the shop, as Travis, now in possession of the case, attempts to deliver the it back to California to Julian Smithies. What he finds in the case is not diamonds, nor gold.

Another very adept character in this story is Dr. Sally Rivea, an oceanographer who is a divorced mother whose ex-husband is a supervisor on an oil rig near the Bahamas. She and Robert Spires team up to investigate the death of two blue whales, and also a dolphin to ascertain the cause of their deaths. The whales had beached themselves during winter in the north Atlantic, uncommonly cold water for these monstrous sized mammals when they should be seeking mates in the warmer waters.
Their research and experience lead them both into thrilling adventures and near death situations as they become targets for a secret organization called Genesis, which hopes to determine the time frame of the next catastrophic asteroid strike upon Earth which they strongly believe will be 2015.
How will all these events link together and prevent the last days of Earth?

Author Simon Rosser has developed a highly captivating and vigorous story which will keep you reading late into the night. His characters are fascinating, the plot development has many twists and turns and the author has woven all the elements of the story extremely well. I applaud the author in helping readers understand the changes made to our earth by mankind which have a disastrous impact on mankind and the creatures of our world. I look forward to reading more of his works.

Impact point -- Simon Rosser -- 4/5 stars

I was deciding which book to read next. I read the blurb for this book and was going to reject it, because environmental novels or novels about disasters don't usually appeal to me. I kept reading the blurb, and noticed there was a speculative element to the story, which reminded me a bit of Man Plus by Frederick Pohl.

I was not disappointed once I started reading the story. I have been unable to finish the last few stories I had started reading, but this brought back the energy I felt the others lacked. It was action-packed from the start, and the author soon brings the reader into the story with the 'problem', which was the mysterious beaching of a few whales.

I particularly liked the James Bond element to Impact Point. It was James Bond, transformed from the Cold War setting to a modern world, where terrorists lurk, Twitter and Facebook and YouTube are present, and mobile phones are in use. However, it wasn't all James Bond. The two main characters were very action-oriented, but they had different backgrounds. I felt we didn't learn too much about Travis Dexter's past, but this didn't bother me as much because I was overawed with his quick-thinking abilities.

The impending disaster allowed for a very exciting read as the reactions of the main characters coincided with larger forces. I also commend the author on the originality of the scientists, in the terms of their aims. It was a very realistic read.

However, I didn't give it five stars, but it was close. My reasoning was that the number of grammatical and spelling mistakes increases as the reader gets further into the story. It did bother me a bit, since I am a perfectionist, and it is a factor in whether I would decide to read another book by this author. The story itself was great, and on that merit I would certainly read this author's work again.

~First Reads Winner~
I really enjoyed this. I read it in 2 days. I appreciated that the author took the time to be educated in the scientific portion of the story well enough that he could 'tranlate down' to the reader. This allowed me to understand what was being described and still be swept through the story without being bogged down in excessive detail. Great job! This was current, relevant and definitely could happen. I was pulled into the story as I tried to figure out what was going on, just like the characters. I felt there could have been a part 2 before the final chapters so that we could continue our ride as it seemed rather abrupt, but nicely tied together. I definitely recommend this.

Well, Si Rosser, you did it again--great story, well developed characters, great subject, and the overwhelming gall of some humans(!!!), and the resiliency of others.

I'm like Chris--I wasn't finished reading when the book ended--it was the correct ending, I just didn't want the story to end!

Please keep writing. I am really enjoy reading your books ( this is the 2nd one I have read).

The obviously British author needs to spend more time in North America. We do NOT have AGA stoves, tyres, laybys, and a myriad of other little mistakes that almost drove me crazy while reading this book. Having said that, it was still a really good read.

This was a wonderful read! A mix of Eco scifi and adventure! Entertaining and interesting. I felt like I could actually meet these characters on the street somewhere, very believable. I will defiantly be reading more books by this author.

Again , a very enjoyable read. The techno babble was not overly done and lent itself well to the story. Action and excitement was plentiful enough to keep me engaged. The only bad part is that I am now finished. On to the next one! Keep on writing Mr. Rosser.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Great read doomsday done right. Pieces of space falling where? How much? When? All good questions that need to be answered but you need to avoid being killed getting those answers. A lot of work went into this book. If you love a good mystery and space you gonna love it.

Save the world of you can

I enjoy this end of the world type of story. This fairly well done. It reminded me of several of the Clive Cussler thriller-adventure series with our hero out smarting the antagonist who in this story was the one who should have been the hero saving the planet. This could make for blockbuster movie.

Enjoyable

My only complaint is that the author has US citizens speaking British English. Somewhat disconcerting. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book.

A long and complicated plot with our hero and heroin in and out of trouble all the way. Written from the British point of view, with the hero from Wales, he properly spells honour and uses the metric system of lengths and temperatures, but fails to switch to Fahrenheit when in the US, except for once. As hard as he tried, it still has a few errors which I did not keep track of in this book because I won't mark errors in bed... it disturbs my mate. Even after finishing the book and looking at infopedia, I still don't know if a whale has one fluke or two in its tail. On the other hand I sure know a lot more about meteors and scuba diving. Our hero is a regular MacGyver as well.

Fantastic extinction event story.

I enjoyed the fast-paced tempo, characters, plot and subplots. I would have given it five stars, but when American English mixes with British English I just wish the author would have the right version of English written for the proper character. Americans don't say "drove to the car park". We "park the car"or "drive to the parking lot". Very minor thing unless you're trying to obtain believability. With that said, I would still highly recommend this book and the author, Simon Rosser.

The beginning was slow. Several separate story lines were started but none of them were especially interesting. The action picked up and with it my interest. At one point there are two adolescent boys racing down a hill in Arizona because they are in a hurry to have tea. What? That scene was so out of place that it broke my ability to suspend disbelief. After a short break I picked it up again and finished the book.

Interesting concept and some very good characterization but I found it just a bit of a stretch at times. A touch of James Bond and a good eco-apocolypse scenario but I found the various segments of the story occasionally abrupt and somewhat difficult to follow.

One of those books that is just interesting enough to hold you. The story is actually intriguing, if a bit disjointed. Problem? The writing sucks. So many grammatical and stylistic errors - the problem with self-publishing I suppose. With some really tight editing it could've been a 3

One hell of a book

I don't think I have ever read a book so fast. I was entranced with the excellent writing style fell in love with the characters. I had to laugh at early part of the book when they talk about the sun rising over the Pacific. That would be alright if they weren't going over the Golden gate bridge. Trust and Englishman. I know as I am married to a English Women. I saw one other part where Spires hits a guy carrying a gun causing to drop it and then bends over and takes the gun from his waist band. All in all though I thoroughly enjoyed it (the book).
