If asked, Larry Armstrong would say that failure isn’t in his DNA, but you only have to look at his relationship with his son to know it’s a lie. Going undercover to catch the country’s worst criminals is far easier than fixing the mistakes he’s made with Brice. It didn’t help his situation any when he unknowingly sleeps with his son’s best friend.
If asked, Elliot Pritchard would say that he has a type, and its name is Trouble. From hookups gone wrong to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Elliot can’t catch a break. After a brutal attack nearly kills him, he finds himself staying with the last person he ever expected to—Larry.
Complicated doesn’t begin to describe the situation the two men find themselves in, and things only get harder when Elliot witnesses a violent crime and needs Larry’s expertise to keep him alive. Tempers and tension build as Larry and Elliot try to ignore the chemistry burning between them, but they’d have a better chance of finding a snowball in hell. The two men realize they could have something special if not for two important things: Brice’s feelings and a madman with Elliot in his sights.
Oath of Valor is Book 3 of the Personal Protectors series. It is intended for a mature audience with adult situations and language
I’m not sure why I let myself get sucked into another book by this author when I didn’t enjoy the first two in the series. I do have to say that there were fewer errors in this book than the previous two. There was zero connection or chemistry between the main characters. Larry is a gigantic asshole. He doesn’t redeem himself in this book. And the characters hate each other until they suddenly love each other. And the story is implausible and ridiculous.
This was book 3 in the "Personal Protectors" series. We met both these characters in the last book. Larry "the Chameleon" Armstrong who is Brice's father who put his work in the FBI before his son. Elliot Pritchard's life has changed since almost dying he lost his job and apartment while recovering. When Larry is forced to take a vacation things get even more weird between the two of them. While at work Elliot over years a murder and the Larry takes over. I wanted to slap Larry multiple times he was a mean asshole to Elliot because he made him feel some thing for him. This book also introduced Agent Ross who turns out use to work with Elliot and Larry gets jealous. When these two hook up again it is hot and heavy but they both have guilt because it means going behind Brice's back. Also in this book we find out what happened to Brice's mother who died she left him to run off with another man who was in a cult. When the stalker starts threatening to kill Elliot Larry will do anything to find him. When they told Brice about being together he wasn't surprised about them hooking back up. Larry figured out who the man is and when he comes for them all hell breaks loose. This was a good read. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I hope you've been keeping up with this series so far. It's hella good and this book made it even better. If you have been keeping up, then you know the cast of characters. You know in the last book some things went down. Brice and Elliot and Rusty all almost died. Elliot worse off than anyone. And you know Larry is still coming to terms with his son, and his fling with Elliot one drunken night. If you haven't read, ignore the and go read. Larry is such a hardheaded, hard-nosed, stubborn ass dickhead that most people fear. With the exception of two people. His boss. And sexy Elliot, who he runs from as much as he can. Denial, much? While Elliot was recovering he stayed at Larry’s house. Which was awkward as hell. But he had nowhere else to go. And now Larry was on forced vacation for three weeks. Thank goodness in Elliot's mind, he has a job finally. Working the switchboard for the hospital is actually kind of tough, but Elliot is ready to move. Even though Elliot loves yanking Larry's chain, he doesn't feel welcome. But one bad phone call at work changes everything. Elliot hears something he shouldn't when the phone was accidentally butt dialed and now the bad guy plans to come after Elliot. After being beaten and stabbed before and barely recovering, he can't go through that again. He tries to shake it off, but Larry finds out. And eventually finds out who it is after several more calls that threaten Elliot’s life. During all of which, the bitching, snarking, hurt feeling, and anger are getting pounded out through hot sex. Not exactly the healthiest, but such is life. But vacation or not, Larry knows this guy is coming and he hopes and prays to anything that listens, that he can keep Elliot and his son safe again. Ok so we've got a tough a hell situation here. Elliot being threatened over something he heard. He didn't mean to but it was just there. That is definitely not funny. Especially after all he's just gotten over. And he's still not completely back to normal yet. What was funny is the way Larry and Elliot go at each other. The snark, the bitchiness, just downright rudeness sometimes is quite funny. Because Elliot loves to push Larry's buttons. Hard. At least until Larry goes too far. Some comments should never be made. But all that snark covered up how bad these two wanted to hump each other lol. But being in this intense situation also made Larry realize some things that brought him to his knees. With Elliot. With Brice. And himself. One hell of a story. It couldn't be an easy one with it involving Larry. But poor Elliot just can't seem to catch a break. Maybe soon things will die down and they will be ok. Will have to read to find out.
One drunken night brought two men release, but it also brought with it some awkward consequences when they reunite in a hospital room. Larry is adept at sinking deep into a role for his job with the FBI and dealing with the worst of the worst of society, but his role as father and caretaker? He's lost beyond all reason in how to carry those out. For Elliott, that night between them was unforgettable, at least the parts when the alcohol haze lifted. He never expected to see the man again. But when guilt and heavily masked concern make Larry offer his home to Elliott as he recovers, they begin a dance that can only end in romance or homicide. Except someone else has murder on the mind when Elliott overhears a crime during an accidental call to the hospital. If Larry can't do his job at the same time as coming to terms with his feelings for Elliott, they may not have a chance at a future.
Elliott's snark and sarcasm were playful, flirty, and amusing when we met him in Promise to Shield. None of that spark is gone here, but it is muted when he finds himself increasingly frustrated by Larry's dickish behavior as well as the threats he receives. I loved that he found himself by the end and that none of Larry's actions harmed or changed all that made Elliott, Elliott. His fire and his past rounded him out and gave him depth. I wish he had more zingers for Larry, though; that he would have put Larry in his place more often with how much vitriol came from the silver fox's mouth. Aside from that, Elliott shone in this story and by finding his place among his chosen family, he became whole and at peace.
Larry was so full of unkind justifications, anger, avoidance, and just plain old meanness. I knew there was something softer and kind under all of that, but we didn't actually see any of that until probably the 75% mark of the book. I found that more disappointing than I can say. Why we spend so long soaking up all the hurtful things, the awful things he spews any time he feels threatened, I'll never know. While he is amazing once he gives in and finds his heart with Elliott, it took so long to get there that I almost don't care. I honestly kept rooting for him because of Elliott. I liked Larry as much as I didn't.
The overall story was good and fit quite well with all the other characters from this series that we've come to know. I wasn't a fan of, again, how long it took to get to the sweeter side of things. I'm all for a hard-ass finding love and the softer side of themselves by the end of a dramatic story, but when we don't get a good enough glimpse that they have that lighter side in them until the book is pretty much ending, I find my focus waning. There's a balance between set-up of the romantic fall and the fall itself that needed to be reassessed here and hopefully when we get Ross and Dane's story that's taken into account. I'm still a fan of the series and will definitely be back for more.
This book just hit it out of the park for me! I absolutely love this series and every book is better than the last. One of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers because I love that heated banter and the sarcastic biting batbs that are seeping sexual tension until it just explodes in some of the hottest sex scenes imaginable, and this book had that in spades.
Larry is an FBI agent and one of the best undercover agents they have. He has been deemed as the Chameleon for his ability to become his role so perfectly that its almost scary. When he finishes an assignment and hits up a bar he has a one night stand with a man far to young for him...and turns out to be his son's best friend Elliot. When Elliot stays at his house to recover after an attack, they don't spend much time together. When Elliot is threatened and he is put on forced vacation after another assignment, he finds he needs to protect him. I liked Larry very much. He was just so real and while he was gruff and kind of an a**hole, he was a good guy and yet he made mistakes in his life that he regrets but he owns up to them. He was caring and sometimes even vulnerable and that really allowed me to connect with him.
Elliot is just getting back on his feet after an attack left him broken. He lost his job and his apartment and is staying with his best friends father, Larry. Who he just happened to have had a one night stand with before he knew who he was. He gets a new job answering phones at the hospital and one night he gets a call where he hears a man being murdered. When the killer finds out who he is and begins stalking him and playing mind games with him, he gets help from Larry and Ross, an old friend and Agent to find the culprit and protect him. Elliot is a great character and he is more then what he allows people to see of him. He has no family and his friends mean everything to him as they are his family. He is very caring and emphatic and loves being sociable. I loved getting to know him better.
I loved the way that their relationship developed and progressed. I loved Elliot and all his sarcastic sass and how no matter how dickish Larry got he gave it back just as good. He held his own and it almost became a foreplay between them which made for some sexy, steamy manlove! The story itself was so freaking amazing and it completely exceeded my expectations. I was absolutely hooked and I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend reading this book and while it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. This book was absolutely marvelous!
I have been really enjoying this series so far and this is another great story from Brittany. It brings our two MC's, Larry and Elliott together under strenuous circumstances as well as allowing them both to grow and develop something, regardless of the stubbornness they both possess. We have the story from both men's POV which I love as I think it allows us to better understand the characters with their thoughts, workings and reasoning there for us to see. There's lots of banter, arguments but also friendship, protection and love that shines through. We get visits from men from the previous books, another thing that gives heart to this book. The relationships that are standing strong and weaving throughout the series bring life to both MC's. There are also a couple of men that are newly introduced to us that I hope to hear more from in the future. Whilst this isn't my favourite of the series, it is still well worth reading. The May/December relationship between Larry and Elliot along with the struggle against attraction because of Larry's son being Elliot's best friend bring a lot of fight for both men. Along with the plot line of the book, Elliot hearing something on a call he receives at work ends up with a stalker problem, it brings out Larry's very strong protective side. Even more than he's ever experienced as well as being unable to comprehend how strong his feelings for Elliot. It's a highly entertaining read and Brittany has done justice once again to brilliant characters and a really intriguing plot. Really gets your mind thinking about who's behind the mystery. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Tense, suspenseful and angst-filled with a bit of trouble and a lot of lust. A great read!
This was my first book of Brittany’s and I loved it! Such a thrilling and suspenseful read. From what I can gather this book continues on from the previous books in the series but even though I hadn’t read them, Brittany did well in re-introducing the backstory so I didn’t really feel like I missed anything (other than Brice and Carters love story, which I need to read now). This book follows Brice’s father, FBI agent Larry and Brice’s best friend Elliot as they fight their attraction for each other. Elliot hears something he wasn’t supposed to at work and is thrown into danger and his connection with Larry is tested and their lives put in danger.
I loved the tension and constant banter between Larry and Elliot and loved Elliot’s sass and sarcasm. They make a great pair and enjoyed the HEA!
This was thrilling read and did well to set up the next book and I can't wait for Agent Ross’s story!!
Add together one chameleon FBI agent and his son's best friend and a one night stand and you get Larry and Elliot.
The situation as we walk into the book is somewhat of a CF. Brice is pushing to get back out into the field because if he goes home he has to deal with his attraction to Elliot, who just happens to be his son Brice's best friend. It doesn't matter that they had a one night stand, trying to do anything now would upset his son, and he's trying to rebuild his relationship with Brice.
And Elliot, poor Elliot, he's rehabbing from a pretty serious injury and has been staying with Larry, but having Larry not be home makes it much easier for him to live there.
There's a lot of tension between Larry and Elliot, and if they could get out of their own way, then things would be better, it's just getting to that point. Once they do, things could change. I like the two of them together, and I like that being together with Elliot helps Larry want to deal with his son. And the Chandler Ross character? Someone likes Friends.
I really enjoyed this book and all of the series so far. One of my favorite things is the character development. Each main person in all of them is unique and interesting and has little actions or dialogue that just really bring them to life. In fact here with Larry, at first almost too good of a job developing his gruff and aloof persona-I wasn’t sure he could be redeemed or if so would it be believable. But I’m glad to say I was wrong and all fit and balanced just right. I loved Elliot from the start and this seemingly mismatched couple ended up being perfect.
I liked the story line, maybe not my favorite of the three books so far but still enjoyed it with the hint of mystery and bits of danger. I love a little action with my romance! Glad to see some previous character mentions-and am very excited to see what will be next!
Love the Personal Protectors and this author-will be eagerly looking for more to come.
Oath Of Valor is another amazing addition to the Personal Protectors series by Brittany Cournoyer.
This whole series is intense, riveting and completely satisfying. I'm extremely impressed by Brittany's ability to engage the reader from page one all the way through the end. I love this world that she's created, the people in it and the storylines.
Oath Of Valor is as fantastic as it gets. It's full of humor, great guys and sizzling chemistry mixed with danger and suspense.
These two are a compelling couple. The dynamics between them are fun, full of banter and sizzle. They are sweet together, and are a perfect May to December and Best Friend's Father couple.
The danger is wonderfully written, as it's riveting, and adds perfectly to the relationship between Larry and Elliot. It keeps you on your toes without dragging you down.
Oath Of Valor is an endearing book that I highly recommend. I loved every damn second of it and am completely in love with this series.
I absolutely loved Elliot and Larry's story. After learning about them in Carter and Brice's book....I have been so excited to see more and their book did not disappoint. Elliot is now working at a hospital switchboard operator and is loving his new job. Larry is forced by his supervisor after his last FBI case to take a mandatory 3 week vacation. Larry isn't thrilled...he uses his assignments to keep him busy and keep him from lusting after Elliot. When Elliot gets a threatening call....its Larry who comes to the rescue and works on his case. Can Larry keep fighting his feelings for Elliot or while the close proximity drive him over the edge and claim the man he wants as his own? I loved their story so much...we have suspense/mystery, action, loads of sexual tension, sexy swoony times, and hot growling male. It was absolutely perfect and I highly recommend this book to all. I can't wait for the next book in the Personal Protectors series....well done!!!!
I was excited to read this one after learning a bit about Elliot and Larry's one night stand in book 2, and it didn't disappoint. While Larry drove me crazy with his a**holish treatment of everyone, especially Elliot, I did enjoy seeing him slowly come around. Meanwhile, Elliot was awesome! He stood up to Larry and refused to be afraid of him. Even when Larry hurt his feelings, Elliot was still unapologetically himself. He was strong and flirty and funny, even in the midst of dealing with someone wanting to kill him. And when Elliot and Larry tangled in the sheets (or the shower), there was serious heat. The returning characters from the first two books were terrific, and I really love Elliot's friendship with Brice. This intense story might work okay as a standalone, but I'd recommend at least reading Promise to Shield first, for more back story on both Larry and Elliot. I enjoyed this and look forward to more excitement in book 4.
Loving this series and how it just keeps going. I thought for sure this would be the last book in the series....but of course not. Ross and Dane now need a story, although they are mysterious.
When we left book 2, we were left going WTF. Elliott and Larry had so much more story to tell. Unlike book 1 leading us directly into Carter's story we knew it was coming. Book 2 however gave us the whole lead into book 3 as we had a taste of this couple. Now here we are on book 3 and I don't think I could have asked for a better story. We got missing answers from book 2 for Brice, we got to see more of they dynamic of Brice and Larry but most important we got to see Larry grow from the first 2 books and actually be a softy.
With the promise of book 3, it looks like we will be catching up with Beckett and I am definitely excited. O and Rusty comes out to play again.
Steamy mystery with lots of action and a hot romance. I enjoyed the age-difference dynamic in this story and how well the importance of the connection vs the age difference was illustrated. Awesome character development and such a real emotional connection. I loved that we got to see characters from the earlier books in the series also.
Larry and Elliot are terrific together and i was so rooting for them. This story kept me reading and trying to figure out who the bad guy was. This story was so well done and i recommend to anyone looking for a complex and compelling read.
I am looking forward to the next book in the Personal Protectors series!!!
I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my review.
I was so excited for Larry and Elliot's story and it was every bit as great as I have come to expect from Ms Cournoyer. This was such a great book, I love the contrast of Larry's grumpiness and Elliot's sass.
Elliot is trying to rebuild his life after a horrific attack that left him fighting for his life. Larry is Elliot's best friend's father and an undercover FBI agent. When Elliot witnesses something that puts his life in danger, Larry is determined to protect him.
The pair have been trying to keep their distance from each other as it becomes increasingly difficult for them to deny their attraction. But this new threat to Elliot's life throws them together and the sparks fly.
I’ve been waiting on Larry’s story and it didn’t disappoint me!
Larry and Elliott are still reeling from finding out their connection to Brice when Elliott temporarily moves into Larry’s house.
When a random encounter puts Elliott in danger, Larry does everything that he can to protect him. This allows both of them the opportunity to reassess what they want and go for what’s best for them. I love that Larry was honest with Brice and respects the relationship that he has with Carter.
Ross is a great addition to the series. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I so love this series, the books keep getting better & I love all the characters. I didn't like Larry first but I softened up on him after a while, I loved Elliot of course but he has that sassy mouth that needs to close sometimes, haha. This story was so intriguing & mysterious in a way that has you on the edge of your seat & not wanting to put the book down. It also has a bit of angst & some steamy scenes. It was an excellent read & I really enjoyed it. Can't wait for next book!
Oath of Valor is the third booking the Personal Protectors series by Brittany Cournoyer. And it is a Best Friend's Fathers romance that I could not recommend more. It has funny moments, sweet and sexy moments and sone action/deama. I love Elliot and Larry... along with the supporting cast of characters. Definitely a satisfying addition to this phenomenal series.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This story is filled with action, angst, passion, and that’s just the beginning. I enjoyed this book because of the intensity of both Larry and Elliot. This third book in the Personal Protector series proved that this series is an intensely interesting one. As with the other two books, I found this story to be engaging and jumping off its pages. It is definitely not one to be missed.
This is the third book in this series which is about Larry and Elliot, it could be read as a standalone but I highly recommend that you read the series in order as characters and situations are introduced and explained in them. I really enjoy this series with its grumpy alpha males and the sassy, snarky men that capture their hearts, while coping with dangerous predicaments that grab the reader and do not let go. I am really looking forward to the next book.
For me this was my least favorite in the series. Elliot gets 4 stars, but there were too many issues for me so even he couldn’t save my rating. There was zero chemistry between Elliot and Larry. The sex was meh. I love brooding characters, but only if they also have a sweet side. I didn’t get that from Larry at all. He was just an asshole with no redeeming qualities. The suspense was not really there, because nothing happened until the end when the bad guy came out of nowhere.
Yes! Larry has always intrigued me and this story was good!! 😁😁
Answering one fatal phone call, Elliot’s life could be in possible danger. It’s enough for Larry to finally gets his grumpy butt into gear and Elliot is the man to catch the chameleon!
But while lives are on the line, so are the hearts of these two men!
If you like a mix of may/dec, sort of enemies to lovers, suspense and drama then this is the perfect read.
I really liked Oath of Valor. I’ve been enjoying the whole series and loved Elliott and Larry. I like that their meet-cute was very unorthodox. I also liked that this book picked up from Promise to Shield with Brice and Carter. The story was fast-paced and I liked the banter between Elliott and Larry. It was a sweet May/December romance. There’s just something about alpha type men and dangerous situations. I definitely recommend this book.
I loved Elliot and Larry's story. Oath of Valor is a great addition to the Personal Protectors series. This is a fast paced, action filled, snarky romance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the connection between the two MC's and really could feel their chemistry. The story is full of intrigue and suspense. Full of heat and sexy times! I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series!
Larry is Brice's dad & Elliot is Brice's Best Friend. Elliott is staying in Larry's house while he's recovering from being stabbed (Personal Protection #2). Larry lets him stay after he recovers so he can save money from his new job. One night, while he was working at the hospital as a switch board operator, he got a weird call. Now his life's in danger!!! Larry has to figure out whose after Elliott & his feelings for him.
I was a little surprised that I liked this one as much as I did, especially since I was so irritated with Larry in the last book. While I still don't agree with everything he has done and think he got off a little easy, I understand him a bit better and think he's a good guy. I love how Elliot doesn't take crap from Larry and gives as good as he gets. This story was full of snark and sass, but was also sexy and a little sweet.
Elliott and Larry were a fire that couldn't be put down. You could feel the sparks coming off of them. Their situation wasn't the best but they were perfect for each other. Elliott made Larry look at life in a different way and helped him out who and what was important. And a little mayhem made the story all that much better. I love this series and can't wait for the next installment.
Wow...what a great story! May-September romance, which is part of a series, but as I can attest, can be read as a stand-alone.
Larry is a hard nosed FBI agent, who has made his job his life. Larry identities as bisexual and meets Elliott in a bar and they have a one night stand.
Oops! Elliott and Larry’s son, Brice, are good friends! And when Elliott finds himself in a dangerous situation, Larry swoops in to say the day!
Very strong MC’s and well written, I can’t wait to catch up on the entire series!
This fantastic, engaging, snarky, poignant, sexy, smoking hot, awesome, fascinating, hilarious, terrific, and amazing story was a fresh and unexpected twist on the enemies to lovers/best friend's father/protection/opposites attract tropes. I was hooked from beginning to end, and can't wait to get my greedy hands on the next book in this intriguing series.
I love this series. With each book it gets better and better. The cast of characters are awesome. Nothing better than edge of your seat suspense along with romance. I loved Elliot and Larry. Can't wait for the next book! Well done Brittany Cournoyer! She is fast becoming a go to author for me. So glad I discovered her!!
