First of all I want a baby alpaca! Such a heartwarming and heartbreaking story A real and raw look at marriage. I am such a sucker for a small town story especially when it’s set in the UK! This is the second book in the Love Heart Lane series and it was absolutely full of heart! Christie Barlow has a way of making her characters pop off the pages. She completely draws you in with her words and won’t let you go until the final page of the book. By the end of the book I felt as though I was friends with these characters and had visited this small charming Scottish village. This book can be read as a standalone, but why would you deprive yourself of the first book?

Isla and Drew have the perfect life, a strong marriage, beautiful children, a lovely home... or do they? Isla is starting to feel overworked and under appreciated by husband Drew. Isla is lonely and struggling with the long days alone taking care of baby and the distance between Drew and her. When she realizes that Drew has been keeping things from her how will she regroup and begin to rebuild her marriage? This book Addressed some pretty serious issues and did it with a gentle and loving hand. It was refreshing to read a book about a real couple facing real problems. Also love the sense of community in the story, so many amazing characters banning together to help out each other. A truly lovely story, the perfect addition to your summer reading!

*** Big thanks to Harper Impulse for my copy of this book ***

Favorite Quotes:

I’m absolutely telling you my seventy-year-old gran is on Tinder and probably has a more active sex life than all of us put together…

‘I’ve got a match,’ squealed Rona. ‘Oh my … he’s got no teeth and looks like he would be better fitted in a police line-up … look!’ ‘I told you, you were swiping the wrong way … let’s have a look,’ chuckled Martha. ‘He’s not too bad, maybe a little overweight, bald and probably has his own teeth – well, the ones he has … well worth a date, I say.’

My Review:

This was a more tense and angsty read than I was expecting, but thankfully a lively and feisty rolling stone of a grandmother and the unusual addition of an alpaca herd was on hand to provide periodic scenarios of comic relief from the marital and financial strife. Following a tragedy, Isla discovered that her husband Drew had been keeping devastating secrets, which yielded rather dire results and significant hurdles which caused the couple to struggle with nearly every aspect of their lives.

The original storylines were active, relatable, cleverly creative, and unpredictable while the writing style was easy to follow and engaging. I enjoy Ms. Barlow’s characters and writing style so much I plan to dive right back in with the next installment in this series and her latest release of Clover Cottage. I’m hoping the cute little alpacas make a repeat appearance.

I really like this Author and was totally sold on Love heart lane (I have the first book on my shelf ready to read).

I had mixed feelings about Foxglove farm. It’s written beautifully and all the characters are what I would expect from this town I’ve come to love. My problem with this book is it’s not what I would class as a romance. The conflict is money between a married couple.

Drew hasn’t told his wife the farm is struggling instead he’s struggling to deal with the emotions of the burden. Isla doesn’t know why her husband is acting out. When she buys him a birthday present the lie of their happy marriage becomes more apparent. Isla needs to figure out the problem before she loses everything.

I really liked the characters and the revisit to this sottish town. I will be reading more of this Author however this book wasn’t really for me. 3 stars out of 5.

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Although this is book two, it reads perfectly well as a stand alone concentrating on Drew and Isla with appearances from the characters we became familiar with in Love Heart Lane.

Isla thought she and Drew had the perfect marriage. Recently, completely out of character for him, Drew seemed to be withdrawn and short tempered most of the time, blaming whatever is bothering him on Isla. She knew how hard Drew worked, running the farm, but with a young child at school and a three month old baby, Isla had her hands full too, and lack of sleep wasn’t helping. As tempers fray, the crack in their marriage widens.

Hoping to heal the rift she doesn’t understand, Isla goes all out with her birthday present to Drew believing it’s something he’ll love. She wasn’t at all prepared for his reaction. Isla is confused and upset, she doesn’t know what she’d do without the support of her close friends. When her grandmother Martha turns up unexpectedly, and after some initial misgivings on Isla’s part, her return to the village proves to be a blessing in disguise.

As things go from bad to worse with challenges morphing into danger and drama, once again the tight knit community pulls together to help one of their own.

It was lovely to revisit the residents of Love Heart Lane and the beautiful setting of the Scottish Highlands. I loved Martha, what a character! Eccentric, full of life and always ready to help, she balances out the more serious aspects of the story. There are several side stories bringing us up to date with other characters too, which was good.

Sensitive issues were addressed, most prominently the necessity to be able to talk about concerns before they become overwhelming. The story also touches on some of the problems facing farmers today, when events conspire to make life more difficult, showing how easily things can quickly spiral out of control.

Foxglove Farm is an enjoyable and moving story about family, friendship, love and community.

I chose to read and review Foxglove Farm based on a digital copy of the book supplied by NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources.

Inspiring, heartwarming, and sweet!

Foxglove Farm is an emotive, charming story that takes us to the quaint English countryside and into the lives of Isla and Drew Allaway who after years of marriage find themselves drifting apart and struggling to keep both their farm and their relationship afloat.

The writing is sincere and light. The characters are genuine, hardworking, and supportive. And the plot is a touching, dramatic tale about life, love, family, friendship, community, taking chances, starting over, and happiness.

Overall, Foxglove Farm is an uplifting, humorous read that does a beautiful job of reminding us just how important communication, trust, honesty, forgiveness, and unconditional love are to the success of a marriage. And even though it is the second book in the Love Heart Lane series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone novel if so desired.

Thank you to HarperImpulse and Rachel's Random Resources for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Foxglove Farm is meant to be a sweet romance. I suppose that it is - to a point. Isla and Drew are experiencing marital problems and Isla is unaware of exactly why. The man she loves is suddenly withdrawn and sullen but refuses to tell Isla why or what might be wrong. When a birthday surprise blows up in her face, she flees with her infant until she can sort out what to do. The fact is that they are having financial difficulties which Drew has not share with Isla. He is depressed and angry at not being able to provide for his family. Together they find a way to persevere and rekindle their love for one another once more but the journey is a difficult one.

There were multiple issues that the author introduced: lies and secrets in a marriage, the difficulty of having a newborn on a marriage and, of course, male depression and mental health. While all of these are very important topics - very - at times there was just too much hardship to be believed. There was one problem after another after another in such a short period and within a relatively short story. Yes, there are those who are faced with mounting challenges and generally when it rains, it pours. However, for the good of the novel and to really explore any of these topics thoroughly, either the book needed to be longer or there should have been fewer fires. Regardless, the story itself is well told, well-written and uplifting. This is the second in a series and each set of characters is different from the last, however, I felt as though I was missing some backstory that others might have known from reading the first book in the series. I would suggest reading them in order. They are quick reads so that shouldn't be a problem.

My word I have read this book so quickly as simply brilliant the first one in the series love heart lane was good and was lovely to go back but hear more about someone else from the village. It's full of romance and heartbreak with secrets and families and can the community pull together to support everyone. It's such a heartwarming read and now want to start the next one in the series. Worth far more than five stars as fantastic.
This book is based on Isla and Drew and they live on the farm and have always been so in love. Isla is a new mum again and trying to keep the house going and bring up her children and she starts worrying about her wonderful husband as he's been very snappy and not himself recently but she doesn't no why. He's telling her she's spending to much but when someone tries to sell her some alpacas she decides to buy them for his birthday thinking it will bring in more money. Problem is he's not happy and snaps at her more and she can't work it out. Her grandmother turns up and starts living with them and Drew is not happy about that but when they have a storm and the barn goes up in flames and Drew is inside Isla worries she could loose him. He gets out but is poorly but she soon learns he's been keeping secrets from them and she's worried she could loose her home so can the community rally round to help and can they start being open and be happy again and in the middle of a crises can they start some thing new that can save everything or will one person try to ruin them more. You have to read it to see the outcome and highly recommend it as simply fantastic.

Foxglove Farm is the second book in the Love Heart Lane series but reads easily as a standalone as it focuses on a different set of characters.

It was great to return back as I fell in love with the characters and fabulous setting in the first book so was very much looking forward to catching up with the characters again. What I love about books like this one, is that we get to keep up to date with the characters we met and loved in the previous book but get to know characters that were more in the background better this time round.

This time round the story focuses on Isla and her husband Drew who own and run Foxglove Farm. Sadly things don’t seem to be as rosy between the two and Isla is struggling to understand why. Drew being a typical man, is not giving anything away and I felt sorry for Isla as her husband is getting more distant.

I so enjoyed this story line with the author bringing into it a subject which is something that people need to be more open about and it needing to be talked about more. It also showcases how fabulous community spirit can be and I love how everyone rallies round to help their friends and neighbours out.

Foxglove Farm is a wonderful and engrossing story that is moving and uplifting. I loved Isla’s determination and problem solving. She really is a force to be reckoned with as is her grandmother Martha. Loved their characters. The perfect reading companion this summer!

My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources, NetGalley and Harper Impulse for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

I think that the best thing about Christie's books are they are just so easy to read and envelope you as a reader into an idyllic place. Yes they have their issues and yes things don't always go smoothly, but I love the atmosphere of the village that they live in and the amazing friendship groups.

Roll on the next instalment!

Thanks to NetGalley, Christie Barlow and Harper Impulse for the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.

I whizzed through this gem in a day! A follow-on from one of my favourite books in recent months - Love Heart Lane - I was delighted to return to their community again and the spirit of the village remained in abundance.

The focus here was on Isla and Drew of Foxglove Farm but it was nice to be reunited with the whole cast of characters, and some new faces, from the last story. Drew's farm has plummeted into financial troubles which he hides from Isla until the unthinkable happens and so all is eventually made clear. Isla then rallies to try and get the farm back on an even keel and I adored her entrepreneurial spirit!

There were plenty of highs and lows along the way and Drew was struggling with his mental health which was handled sensitively and it was a refreshing change to find the lead male in these circumstances as all too frequently I only read about females in this position.

Isla also handled the about-turn in her husband's behaviour very well - she had true grit which I can well imagine is needed on a farm in the Highlands.

I'm already looking forward to my next visit to the idyllic sounding Love Heart Lane. There are still plenty of characters who deserve their fuller stories to be told and so luckily I know there will be a return visit and we will be venturing to Clover Cottage next!

My many thanks to Harper Impulse and Killer Reads via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't think anything was going to be able top Love Heart Lane in my Christie Barlow greatest hits list.. but it feels like Foxglove Farm has done exactly that.

It was wonderful being back in Heartcross amongst familiar faces, and although Felicity and Fergus are present, this time the focus of the book is on Felicity's best friend Isla and Drew. They live on Foxglove Farm and based on the arguments we are greeted with, things aren't going too well.

However it takes a while for the reader and Isla to get to the root of Drew's bad mood with her, and all manner of circumstances and drama leads up to that point.

This can easily be read as a standalone book although that would be depriving yourself of another fabulous book,

From the first few pages I was utterly hooked, and given the majority of this book I read on tube journeys, the fact I managed to get off at the right stops is a mystery to me, as I have no recollection of even moving, I was that engrossed in the story.

If you are looking for a book that features a lot of drama, a heartwarming and cosy feeling to it, with some big issues touched upon, all with fabulous writing, great location, small town community feeling and some humour, then without a doubt, give this book a try.

This is a community of characters that has completely got under my skin and I'm already looking forward to Clover Cottage. What I especially loved about this book was that it was about a married couple who needed to start trusting in each other more, and to not have secrets, rather than a brand new romance. It just added a fresh vibe to the story.

I'm not sure I can really explain just how much enjoyment and pleasure this book brought to me. I will admit I had suspicions about one character that proved completely correct, but even guessing part of one bit of plot couldn't detract from the sheer joy of reading more about Heartcross.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I just adore this series I’ve read it out of order but each book can be read as a standalone. Every time I finish one of these books I always feel a little sad as it feels like I’m saying “goodbye” to new found friends. If you’re looking for a book that’s pure escapism with well drawn characters that worm their way into your heart look no further. I love Christie Barlow’s book it’s obvious she puts her heart and soul into each book. These aren’t just fluffy reads though they deal with real life topics that the author explores with a great deal empathy. Highly recommend 💞

I was really looking forward to dream away on the Foxglove Farm, but I have to say that my trip to Love Heart Lane was a little disappointing.

Foxglove Farm is the second instalment of the Love Heart Lane series, but it can be read as a stand-alone without any further problem. I haven’t read the first book in the series either, but that is not really a problem. Of course you feel that you miss a little background story, but I think most of the details were filled in by the author. Ideal for new readers and a nice little refresh for people who read the first book.

The story focusses on Isla and her husband Drew, who run Foxglove Farm. But the couple is struggling and Isla tries to understand why her husband is moody and distant. From that moment the story really kicks off.
All in all the story wasn’t all that bad. The overall storyline was quite entertaining and I loved the whole idea of Isla finding a solution to all there problems and by finding that solution finding that she is a strong, independent woman.

But the author completely lost me with a certain storyline dealing with a certain medical condition. I really hated the way that storyline was executed. Sadly enough I have seen this disease wreak havoc in my family and seen what it can do to people. So it kind of hurt if that makes any sense to see it played down in this story. Things like this don’t disappear just with a few hugs and kisses. Not all is good in the world because you have mentioned the unmentionable to your loved ones. I just wanted to throw this book away and yell to the author while reading this. A strong reaction, I know and maybe a little exaggerated. But if she ever experienced anything like this in real life I don’t think she would buy her own storyline.

Such a shame because I actually quite enjoyed the rest of the story. I absolutely adored Isla’s grandmother Martha, who is a force to be reckoned with. And the whole book breathed such a strong community feeling. So lovely.

Maybe this book just wasn’t for me. I might give one of her other books a chance in the future.

This is book 2 in the series, but don’t let this put you off if you have not read the first one! It can easily be read as a standalone because even though we reconnect with people from the previous book, the story focuses on other characters.

Ok, it’s true you miss some background information but once you have finished this one, you will run to the bookstore and buy the first part as well.

If you love reading stories about those little close knit communities, then you will be in for a treat. I for sure adore them. They are always so heartwarming in this often cold world.

Life is always easier when you have a lovely family and close friends. Of course they can’t keep disaster at bay, but when you are in trouble, they are the first you can call and you know they will be there to help you anyway they can.

The author certainly served the main characters a plate full of problems. Some are so huge that they do not seem to be able to get through, but where there is a will, there is a way. You only have to find it!

Some problems do not dissapear overnight, but talking about them and face them is one big step in the right direction.

I adored this book. Can’t wait to see who will be next in the spotlight. 5 stars

Thank you, Christie Barlow and Rachel’s Random Resources.

I am soooo happy to be back in wonderful Heartcross with the gorgeous people of Love Heart Lane including some new characters too. Although this time the story is focused on Foxglove Farm specifically Isla and Drew. Now if you have read Love Heart Lane you will be familiar with the farm and the wonderful couple that live there but don’t worry if you haven’t, this can easily be read as a stand-alone! Christie's writing is superb, whether you are an old friend to the series or a newbie Christie has this way of keeping you up to date on all the when’s, who’s and what’s!

The story focuses on their marriage and the struggles they are both experiencing, struggles they are dealing with alone. Isla a new mum is finding it difficult, with Drew on the farm all hours and Isla looking after two children and running the farm house she finds herself feeling lonely and when Drew is home he is cold, distant and snappy leaving Isla from being able to open up to him and on top of all that she has an unexpected visitor at her door to stay (union jack mini car and Tinder app in tow!)

Disaster hits the farm and Drew’s secrets are exposed leaving Isla to pick up the pieces. But this is Heartcross and the community of Love Heart Lane do not leave one of their own in need, everyone rallies together to support where they can. It really is a place I would love to live!

Foxglove Farm is not your usual glitter, hearts and flowers sort of story, it hits on big topics, the well-known saying ‘its ok not to be ok’ is absolutely key throughout this book and the way Christie manages this plot is perfect, I really love the style of Christie's writing, whether joyful or sad, Christie writes with pure emotion that really helps you to feel involved and part of village life.

I loved all the characters (well almost all!) Isla really came into her own throughout this story, stepping up for her family she was a joy to read. I was sad when I came to the end of my time at Foxglove Farm but phew Christie saves the day with another book to add to this wonderful series ‘Clover Cottage’ Yay! I cannot wait!

Overall this book is a heart warming read full of love, friendships and family. It will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling and make you want to pack up and head to Heartcross! A must read!

Huge thank you to Christie Barlow and Rachel Random Resources for the ARC and also for allowing me to take part on this fantastic Blog Tour.

This is my first venture into Love Heart Lane and Foxglove Farm was a perfect introduction. Although it’s the second book in the series it can easily be read as a stand-alone and at no point through the book did I feel like I had missed out with not having read Love Heart Lane first. I will be catching up though as I enjoyed this book so much, I have to see what I’ve missed.
Isla and Drew Allaway live at Foxglove Farm, they’ve been together years and with two gorgeous children they seem to have a perfect marriage but cracks start to appear and Isla feels like she is loosing the man she thought she knew. Why is Drew keeping secrets and in such a mood all the time? With many obstacles thrown their way can the couple sort things out?
Foxglove Farm is filled with some fabulous characters that you just can’t help growing to love. From the young to the old, each character really stands out and comes to life and I couldn’t help being totally immersed in this story.
I loved the sense of community in the story, like any small place, everyone knows everyone and everybody seems to know your business but what stood out in the story was how everyone looked out for each other and in times of need they were there to lend a helping hand.
I totally devoured this book and although the main story is about Isla and Drew it was nice to have the little side stories giving us an insight into the other characters lives. One character that I particularly loved was Martha, oh lord she did make me giggle at times. So full of life but an absolute rock for Isla and Drew.
Foxglove Farm is a wonderful story, it has suspense and humour and it left me feeling all cosy and warm. It’s one of those stories that gets under your skin, when you’re not reading you’re thinking about the characters and when you’ve finished they stay with you.
It’s all about the books will definitely be recommending Foxglove Farm, it’s a real feel good story that touches on some sensitive issues but is filled with love, friendships, family and community. Fantastic.

My second visit to the village of Heartcross in the Scottish Highands was just as memorable and brilliant as my first. Christie Barlow really is on to a winner with this series and long may we have many books to come which are set in this special village where community, friendship, family and support mean absolutely everything. Foxglove Farm was one of my most anticipated reads for this summer every since I finished the brilliant Love Heart Lane back in January. I had such high expectations for this new story and thankfully every one of them has been fulfilled. This time the story centres on Isla and Drew Allaway who run Foxglove Farm and within the first few pages we delve straight into the main focus of the story. There is no messing around introducing the setting or characters as this has all been covered in book one and for those that are new to the series background information is slipped in over the course of the story so they needn't feel like they are missing out.

I loved how Drew and Isla, who both did feature in lesser roles in book one, are now stepping into the spotlight and it is time to share their story, their difficulties, their ups and downs and their hardships. The characters I had come to love previously do feature again but to a slightly lesser extent. That's not to say the feel good feelings that oozed from Love Heart Lane are not apparent here, of course they are and in spades. The vibe and atmosphere that Christie Barlow has created in these books is just fantastic and that's what makes you sit down and read the stories in less than a day because once you start you literally can't stop and then believe me you are gutted to have reached the end and have to leave Heartcross behind once again.

Isla and Drew have always had a solid and happy relationship. They love running the farm which has been in Drew's family for generations and the setting is absolutely stunning with the Scottish Highlands surrounding them and the wonderful village of Heartcross at their doorstep. But within the first few pages it's evident that all is not as it seems and discord and upset are to be the main features of Drew and Isla's relationship in this story. There are rocky roads ahead for them but it's whether they can weather the storms that are coming their way and make it through some troublesome situations that will test their marriage to the max is the question?

Drew has gone from being this kind, considerate, hard-working and loving family man to someone Isla is starting to think she barely even knows. He has become irrational, moody, argumentative and he believes he is the one who keeps the farm running with some help from Fergus whilst Isla flits about with the children and spends time drinking tea with her friends in Bonnie's teashop. Isla is so hurt at these institutions which are simply not true as she too is juggling an awful lot, to keep the house up and running and to take care of Finn and baby Angus. I thought the opening scene was powerful and very well written as it really did set the tone for themes of the book and it conveyed Drew's stance although the reasons behind this wouldn't become clear until much later.

I found myself taking an instant dislike to Drew and I wouldn’t have felt this way if I was judging him on the few times he appears in book one. But I think I felt like this because I didn't want to see Isla hurt because at the end of the day she was like anyone else in life just trying to do her best with what the cards have dealt her and to make her family life a positive and happy one. But with Drew being so argumentative, cold and stand offish and with him distancing himself and erecting barriers around him Isla begins to feel like she is threading on eggshells around him. That she needs to be careful with every word she utters for fear of setting him off. Animosity, tension and anger are all emotions bubbling away at the surface when it comes to Drew and they could erupt at any moment given one false move or if something went disastrously wrong.

Isla feels desperately lonely as she doesn't have any hands on extra support and that maybe she is losing perspective of who she is. But that shouldn't be the case as she is surrounded by wonderful friends and family. Felicity and Allie would be there for Isla if she could only open as to how she is feeling but then she thinks people won't believe her if she tells them what has been going on with Drew given he is always so nice to everyone else and has such a good reputation within the village.

To some it may seem as if Isla is complaining unnecessarily. That everyone experiences challenging times in a marriage and after all you do make a commitment to each other to love one another for better for worse, in sickness and in health. But here I felt Isla's worries were genuine. That she loved Drew, her family and the farm so much and that in no way was she reading into things that weren't there. She knows him so well that she just couldn't brush under the carpet what she was seeing and that action needed to be taken in order to save her marriage and not let her family unit go down the drain because no one had bothered to communicate to each other. But circumstances take a very dramatic turn.

I love how Christie uses the weather as a catalyst in her books for bringing about a total u-turn in the way a book may be progressing. Things get turned on their head and there is a sense of urgency to pull together to make things work. That's another reason why I love these books, they are not all light-hearted and dare I use the terms featuring fluffy and easy romances. No there is so much more depth to the story and the exploration of relationships with community spirit a huge part also. The reader is really allowed to get inside the heads of the characters and they do have serious issues and the boy meets girl, will they won't they get together storyline is not present here. Thank god I said to myself more than once. It's the purchase of a herd of alpacas by Isla with the best of intentions that sets the cat among the pigeons and really gets Drew riled up and subsequently a brilliant storyline unfolds.

I really enjoyed how the overall storyline developed as I felt the emotional side of things was balanced with some moments of humour as things could have descended into doom and gloom with no glimmer of hope. The catalyst of the weather that inspired change, grit and determination was brilliantly woven into the story and once again it showed how the village of Heartcross may be small but at its centre there is a big heart where the residents all pull together in times of need to hep those whom they would not wish to see misfortune befall upon. Maybe things happen for a reason and difficult times may be sent to try us but it is how we deal with these situations that demonstrate what true character we have inside us that maybe we didn't realise we had.

Isla once discovering some shocking secrets really stepped up to the plate and her love for both Drew and her family was evident. She deserved nothing but admiration and with the help of her grandmother Martha, whose arrival back to the village was unexpected and maybe initially not welcome, they devised a plan to get things back on track. Martha wasn't a major character but she was there to give Isla the backup she needed when she doubted herself. Isla could have crumbled and just locked herself away but when push came to shove she showed that she was a fighter and that both the farm and her family meant everything to her. But would she be able to dig deeper and discover what was making Drew carry on in the manner in which he was? Will the arrival of a new person Nate to the village be her saving grace in her hour of need? Can she soldier on when it seems as if everything is crumbling around her?

Foxglove Farm, I am very much pleased to say, was another triumph for Christie Barlow. She has written about a very serious subject and sadly all too common problem with sensitivity and tact but she never shied away from writing exactly how people feel when this happens to them. Showing how the family unit are also affected was very important and I thought there was such a well rounded balanced point of view presented throughout the entire story. Heartcross is such a warm and inviting place that you never want to leave, packed full of varied and interesting characters but at its centre are the bonds of community and of pulling together. This book deserves to be consumed in one go if at all possible as it is just to engrossing and absorbing with memorable characters you root for all the way. Imagine my delight to click to the last page to discover there will be more to come in this series before the year is out. Clover Cottage has my interest piqued as to who the story could focus on but in the meantime if you haven't done so already read and enjoy as much as I did both Love Heart Lane and Foxglove Farm. You'll be glad you did.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Love Heart Lane so I was super excited to read Foxglove Farm and get back to the inhabitants of Heartcross.

Whilst Love Heart Lane focused on Felicity and Fergus, Foxglove Farm is centred around Isla and Drew who live at the farm. This book picks up a few months after the last book therefore Isla and Drew are now parents to two boys, Finn and Angus following Angus’s arrival at the end of Love Heart Lane. However things are far from rosy at the farm, and its not just the sleepless nights and early mornings causing tension…but Isla doesn’t actually know what’s wrong with Drew because, other than sniping at her, he won’t talk.

I absolutely loved being back in Heartcross with characters that I’d fallen in love with in the previous book, whilst this could be read as a standalone I would recommend reading Love Heart Lane first so you are introduced to the characters and understand the events of the previous winter. The community spirit is still in full swing in this book, it is heartwarming to witness the strong friends across the village and how everyone is quick to rally when someone needs it, without even being asked.

Foxglove Farm does introduce us to a new character, Martha who is Isla’s grandmother. Martha is a bit of a free spirit so it’s been a while since she’s been seen in Heartcross but she settles back in brilliantly. Although Isla has her reservations over her impromptu visitor with everything that is going on with Drew, Martha really comes into her own and is priceless. I really liked Martha’s character, to the point but diplomatic, peacemaker but also fiercely protective of her granddaughter. Martha is a wonderful addition tot he Heartcross crew!

I really liked how Christie Barlow linked a number of storylines into the overall plot of Foxglove Farm, some of which were hard-hitting and very relevant, others quite humorous….one of which included Alpacas who sound incredibly cute!

I thoroughly enjoyed Foxglove Farm from start to end, a beautifully written and engaging story and I’m pleased to say that there will be a third book, Clover Cottage, currently scheduled to be out in December 2019.

It’s great to be back with book two of the Love Heart Lane series, this time focusing on Isla and Drew. It reads perfectly well as a standalone, but I really do recommend you read the first one, I mean why miss out!

With certain authors, I read their books without checking out the blurb. I feel if I’ve loved one of their books I should generally love them all and Ms Barlow is one of them. Even when I started Foxglove Farm, I had no clue what it was about and from the opening pages I was hooked and well I did not expect that start! I had to quickly re-read my review for the Love Heart Lane and it refreshed my memory of who was who and it was great to see old faces again! Plus the introduction to new faces was fabulous, although not all were good faces to have!

With an intense start to the book, in which you felt like you were intruding on a private moment with Isla and Drew, we follow them as they literally hit rock bottom. Watching them struggle and rebuild was hard but it just goes to show how far a bit of communication can go in a relationship and a marriage! It was really quite refreshing to show marriage in this realistic light, two people lost their way and need to work their way back to each other.

The village is its own little character with its natural disasters! However, the comradery of the villagers is enough to bring you to your knees. The way everyone rallies around to support Isla and Drew made me stop in awe. Nothing was too much and everyone pulled their weight willingly without any grumbles! I want to live there!!

I was told (by Rachel) I would be in for a treat with this book and she was right. It is so easy to get lost in Ms Barlow writing, as she writes as if you were having a cup of tea in the cafe and catching up. It flows so easily and you feel like you are right there with the community. I must admit I love the village and I love the idea of living somewhere where everyone knows everyone. It’s quaint and it’s friendly, welcoming and rather endearing! They support each other through hardships and celebrate the good times.

I very rarely follow a series of books, but was really looking forward to seeing how life had moved on for the characters I’d taken to my heart. But I did particularly like the fact that my enjoyment didn’t depend on my remembering the events of the earlier book: this one is entirely self-contained, following different characters but with all the other familiar ones in supporting roles.

It’s a surprisingly emotional story – a marriage in a state of disintegration, every attempt to mend it only making things many times worse, some moments of high drama and more than a few tears along the way. But there’s lightness too – this is a romantic comedy after all – and I particularly loved the introduction of grandmother Martha, who initially seemed like the most unwelcome of house guests but played such a central role as the story unfolded. One of the author’s great strengths is in creating characters who are real people – the good, and the ones who perhaps aren’t quite what they at first appear to be – and in the way she creates a community that you entirely become part of, enjoying the supportive friendships, entering the hearts of its families.

I really liked the original and well-meaning birthday gift that exacerbates so many of Isla and Drew’s problems – and the path they found towards their fresh start and putting things right again. I also very much appreciated the fact that the book didn’t shy away from issues – personal, and at a relationship level – as the story moved towards the hoped for and increasingly unlikely happy ending.

I’m not always a fan of romantic comedy, but this book is many miles away from the usual boy meets girl and the challenges they overcome – it has depth and a really sure emotional touch that makes you feel for its characters, plenty of mystery and drama to make the pages turn faster, and a real authenticity in the way the relationships are portrayed. And the writing is excellent – a well-drawn setting, real-life characters with all their faults and foibles, perfectly paced, well-written dialogue that moves the story forward and gives insight into the characters, quite a few surprises, and a beautifully crafted and heartwarming story. I very much enjoyed this one – and I’m already looking forward to the next…

Love Heart Lane is a community in Heartcross which has its residents at the centre of everything. This is another endearing story of this community, with great characters, secrets, shocks, accidents and surprises in a delightful page turner. Mind you, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this talented author!

This is a story where striving to solve things on your own proves so wrong. It is only when others are aware of your problems that they can help! However, sometimes you really do need to check things out more carefully . . . if it seems to good to be true, maybe it really is? It is a story of a couple who really need to start communicating with each other more, sharing their worries and fears before those things drive them irrevocably apart. It really is ok not to be ok and the reasons why should be shared with those you love so you can work together to help resolve them. Secrets lead to misunderstandings and wrong assumptions. Can Isla and Drew learn to work together to help save their home and their marriage? You’ll just have to read it yourself to find out!

With alpacas, strangers, dangers, rustlers and revelations this is a fantastic addition to the series. I don’t think you’d need to read the earlier book to enjoy this one – but be warned that it may well tempt you to read it, too, and I don’t think you’d be disappointed if you did – I loved reading that one, too! I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this book to anyone who enjoys small communities with believable characters and plenty of surprises.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from Netgalley

I completely fell in love with Love Heart Lane so when I heard about FOXGLOVE FARM by Christie Barlow was released I was really excited to read the next instalment in this series. But like all series there is always that worry that the next book won't live up to the first but I am happy to say that FOXGLOVE FARM is even better.

Isla and Drew have been married forever, have their beautiful family, and their farm, and everything seems perfect. But 'seems perfect' are the operative words here. Beneath the surface they are are struggling with their relationship and their responsibilities, and when secrets come to the surface, they may not be able to get past it all.

A wonderful story about relationships and the level of work that is needed to make a marriage work, is just one part of this plot and there is so much about this story and these characters that I loved. Friendship, community spirit, issues of trust and respect, are all elements that worked really well for me but it is Isla that really made this story shine. I found it easy to connect with her and I was invested in how her life would turn out.

FOXGLOVE FARM by Christie Barlow is an excellent story about trust, love, and forgiveness and I highly recommend it to fiction fans everywhere. It is the second book in this series but can easily be read as a standalone.

The book starts with a fight between Drew and Isla where he claims he does all the work and she lounges around all day spending his money. Telling her to get a job he stomps out of the house.

Is it too much to ask for a story where the two main characters trade places for a week to get some appreciation for how hard the other works?

I guess it is. Isla's comeback to the accusation she's spending Drew's money having tea with her friends is: you want me to stop seeing my friends? Which in a way is saying she agrees with Drew that it is his money. Her comeback should have been: that's our money. Remember, we agreed that you would work to make our money, while I take care of our children and our household?

Okay, so the good rebuttal isn't Isla's strong suit. But she has friends, perhaps they can help. Ah, no such luck. They make Isla breakfast, but don't really have her back in the Drew debate. One even suggests it would be nice for her to get a job, get some independence.

I'm sure it would be, but the issue is that Drew does not appreciate the unpaid labor Isla does, and getting a job is not going to fix that.

If anyone has any recommendations for trading places / life swap stories, I'm open to suggestions.

What a lovely book! Set in the Scottish Highlands, we follow Isla, a farmer’s wife and a busy mum of 2, who seems to be struggling with her marriage. Her husband Drew is being secretive and moody and she doesn’t understand why. With a community of close friends and relatives around them, we see them struggle through a tough few months which includes alpacas and disasters. This is a light read, but the pace is fast and it’s easy to concentrate on. I also grew to really like the characters in the story and will now be heading to amazon to buy the other 2 books in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley who gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
