Perspectives was interesting. The story is told from--wait for it--differing perspectives. These perspectives show how debilitating depression affects different people, in particular, a husband and wife. The husband and wife take turns as the narrator in which you get to read the same scene from each person's point-of-view. It isn't always the exact same scene and sometimes it can be often to determine whose perspective from which the story is being told. For instance, there are two minor characters who get their say in a few excerpts and you don't get anyone's name. I do know that the husband of the story is a Heathcliff of sorts. It's easy to dislike him. In fact, he reminds me of my first husband and the wife expresses much of the same feelings as I did during my marriage.

Once I got the hang of the author's style for the book, distinguishing characters became much easier. I became emotionally invested in the wife and got angry at her more than once for clinging to her alcoholic and self-destructive husband.

Anyway, it was a good, short read that may have caused my anxiety to rise just a bit due to its relatability. I think anyone who has ever been in a bad relationship will find ways to relate to this novella.
