ROCKY MOUNTAIN DADDY by Lois Richer is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Haven series. It is part of the Harlequin Love Inspired books and their description as a heartwarming inspirational romance is spot on. It’s the wonderful story of Gabe Webber and Olivia DeWitt and a little five year old boy named Eli.

Gabe Webber is bitter from a failed marriage that he feels cost him his father and the family ranch. He’s happy working the horse-riding program for foster youths at the Double M where he’s foreman. He has no plans to try the marriage game again. He’s caught off guard when confronted by his wife’s sister telling him that his ex-wife is dead and presenting him with a son he knew nothing about.

Olivia DeWitt is returning to The Haven, where Tillie and Margaret Spenser, the “aunties”, made her and her fellow foster sisters, Victoria, Adele and Gemma, feel at home after years of being lost in the foster kid programs labeled as problem kids. She’s come to help out for a little while before going off to her new job in a new town safe away from kids. While in the foster programs and way too young to be left in charge of kids younger than her, tragedy struck twice leaving Olivia to believe she was responsible for two deaths. The scars and emotions run deep making her fear to be around kids for fear of harm coming to them. She has resigned herself to the fact that she will never having children.

Olivia was with Gabe when he was presented with Eli. She immediately is drawn to the little boy. She tries to help Gabe come to terms that he’s a Dad and to help a little lost and confused little boy who just lost the only parent he’s ever known. After Victoria is injured and not able to work at The Haven, Olivia agrees to stay on a little longer than planned. Maybe she can help more with Gabe bonding with his son. She just has to remember to stay detached because she’s leaving soon for her new job.

Eli is a very special little boy full of love and emotions that sometimes he expresses through his love of nature and drawing. He especially loves birds. His mother game him love. Now he wants nothing more than a home of his own to know what it’s like to be safe, warm and fed. He’s been made to feel dumb by others in the past. With Olivia’s help and attention and getting him a tutor, she is determined to show him that he is special and very smart.

Can Gabe work through the past with his ex? Can he find a way to develop a relationship with his son – one that they both desperately need? Can Olivia come to terms with the past and realize that those events weren’t her fault? Can her immediate feelings for this precious little boy named Elli open her heart to the possibilities that she could be a mother? Will it be one little boy that mends two hearts and be the glue to bond them all together as a family?

Lois Richer did a wonderful job of creating characters that will pull on your heart strings writing a story that will have you turning pages hoping that they can work through their problems to see the love in each other’s heart. She managed to make this happily ever after very story interesting with some bumps and bruises along the way.

I would recommend ROCKY MOUNTAIN DADDY to anyone that loves a great, well-written Christian romance.

What's not to like about Lois Richer's book, Rocky Mountain Daddy? This book is a Love Inspired Inspirational Romance. The main characters Olivia DeWitt and Gabe Webber are facing changes in their lives. Olivia is staying at her adopted aunts' outreach program for troubled foster children before she starts a new job. Gabe is the foreman of the Double M which is the ranch next to the Haven. One her first day back, Gabe gets an unexpected shock. He is given a five year old boy and told he is the father. The boy's mother died recently and now he is Gabe's to raise. Luckily Gabe has Olivia there to help him figure out how to be a dad. This book is well written, is a clean/sweet romance, and Gabe's son, Eli, adds a lot to the story.

I love books with children and this is a really good one. Six-year-old Eli is dropped off to a Dad that was just meeting him. His mother just passed away. Gabe did not know he was a father, he will now have to figure out how to be one.

Olivia is coming back to visit her former foster home and sisters. They ran a horse program for foster kids. Olivia has something in her past to work out from her childhood.

I really loved the scenes with all the kids in the book. Eli had gone through so much in his young life. He really seems older than six.

This book is part of the books I received from the Reader Service. I was not required to write a review on it.

Another great read from Lois Richer. There are surprises galore for Gabe and Olivia ... the biggest being their attraction to each other. Both are controlled by situations from their past. Gabe gives Olivia great advice, but cannot see the need to apply it to himself. Olivia has a great need to control which causes her to deny her feelings and struggle with trusting God. I loved watching them both work through their faith issues and their love. Truly a sweet and encouraging story.

A sweet and easy read with characters struggling to let go of their past and trusting God. Sweet six year old Eli added to the story despite his struggles from his earlier years.

This was a book I found at our library used book sale last year, thus a review was not required.
