Kel O'Conley, DVM, treats supernaturals and their pets. Where else can a witch take a talking familiar for vaccinations or vampires get a stake removed? Kel wants experience in her field before returning to her pack. She's fought tooth and claw for her dream and nothing will stop her.

Until Tavis Alger, Heir to a rival pack, appears at her clinic with a gravely injured werewolf. Accustomed to obedience, Tavis doesn't know how to handle Kel—except in the bedroom. She completely disregards Tavis' title, but remains his packmate's best chance at survival. But Tavis' Alpha doesn't trust Kel and swears a blood oath: Should the injured werewolf die, so does Kel.

To save herself, Kel proposes a political mating with Tavis despite their bickering. She didn't expect their white-hot attraction or developing feelings, but when more supernaturals are targeted, Tavis and Kel must work together or lose everything.

I'm a wife, mother to two little girls, equestrian, gardener, and of course author. I was an avid reader long before my writing career began in the second grade. My mom soon found the only way to adequately discipline me on the rare (ha!) occurrence I misbehaved was to take away my books. It was awful and effective and I've been devouring any genre of book that catches my eye.

As for writing, I love Urban Fantasy, sci-fi, specifically of the dystopian bent, and now Paranormal romance.

It has been a while since I read a good shifter PNR and this debut from Amber Renard delivered in spades. It features a dominant, headstrong heroine and an equally dominant, headstrong hero. You can see right away where the conflict will come in.

Kel is heir to her father’s werewolf pack, Steel Valley, but she does not live with them. Instead she is just finishing up her training as a veterinarian. It is her dream to serve as a doctor to the supernaturals in the area. Of course, the school she has to attend is not exactly in her own backyard. It is in the backyard of the neighboring pack, the Pine Richland Wolves, and she had to get permission to be there under somewhat false pretenses. She pretends to be a barren lone wolf and she barters her medical abilities to stay there long enough to finish her education.

No one from the Pine Richland Pack ever cashes in on the deal until one of their own gets ambushed and they need Kel to treat him. Tavis is the wolf who brings the injured Ben to her door and he is the Pine Richland heir. Right away, there are two problems. There is something unusual about the nature of the injured wolf’s gunshots and to the Alpha of Tavis’s pack puts a moon curse on Kel. If Ben dies, Tavis will take Kel’s life.

Obviously, things go south. The only way to get around the curse is to create a bond Tavis cannot break. A mating bond. From there, they must work together to figure out who targeted Ben and is trying to exterminate supernaturals in the area.

It’s a pretty good mystery that unfolds, but at the forefront of the story is the relationship between Kel and Tavis and their respective places among their packs. Kel is not exactly what the stereotypical female wolf is in the hierarchy and both packs struggle with it, Pine Richland in particular. In fact, her dominance is hard for Tavis as well. Thankfully, the bond helps with that. Some.

I don’t want to spoil too much. It is a fun ride and I enjoyed watching these to figure out their places, both as wolves and as a couple. The mystery arc is resolved well and I look forward to more in the series, seeing how these two fair and delving into the next romance.

Would read from this author again.

Look forward to more in this Amber Renard series; Pine Valley Wolves. Kel is a vet, Heir to her Pack, and living in a rival pack territory. Tavis is the Heir to his pack with a wounded Pack Mate. Story is unique with a female Alpha Pack leader. Alliances are made with the Pack in mind. Love the romance of this couple and the Pack Politics that were revealed. Dr. Ral would love to see Kaelen/Kel fail. Kaelen is an Alpha werewolf and to take over the pack when her father steps down. There were rules on being an Alpha per Kel 1}Never let your enemy see you sweat 2} Keep your business private 3} Never let them see you rattled 4} Never let anyone trespass on your territory . While at school the cow kicked Kel and Dr. Ral told her to go home but without pay. Kel has important things to do like call her dad. Kel’s roommate and only friend is Mina is human and they have been friends for eight years. She has been friends with Mina for eight years and she knows about were animals, vampires and the fey as Kel had told her. Kel had been raised to be an Alpha wolf. Listening to Mina’s boyfriend drama was one of the reasons why Kel wasn’t looking for a mate. Kel’s father asked her why she hadn't visited home , Kel knew it was because she wasn’t ready to settle down to pack life and all the expectations and disapproval when she didn’t act like a proper female wolf. Kel asked for 6 more months and would be home the weekend after next to visit. Kel had set up a small clinic in a storage unit. How could she kee[ her clinic when she went home? She knows she is needed here. Than someone pounds on her unit and it is a werewolf in human form carrying a wounded wolf. Kel finds silver buckshot pellets which means hunters were looking to kill supernaturals. Tavis was determined to get Kel in his The wounded wolf is Ben. The other is Tavis who is the Heir Apparent to the Pine Richland wolf pack. Tavis offered Kel a clinic on their land . obviously he doesn’t know who Kel really is. Heir Apparents carries out Justice for the Alpha ,the claws and fangs of the Alpha. Kel gave Ben and tavis a ride home. The alpha declared if his wolf died she would also. Tavis told his four Betas they were going hunting to try to find out what happened to Ben. Ben is not getting better so Kel goes to the packs land and after using the nre x ray machine and finds fourteen more pellets and abscesses. Ben seemed to be healing now. She had Tavis get her a pellet and there was colorless, odorless, and apparently caustic residues of powder on the pellett. Kel is attracted to Tavis and her wolf wants him. Kel tried to call Mina again but still didn’t get an answer. Lone wolves are wolves unsuited to pack life. They don’t respond to Alphas like normal werewolves . They're also stronger, faster, and more in touch with their wolf. It makes them ideal enforcers for pack minded predators prone to blood lust. They don’t get involved often but when they do, entire packs tend to disappear. Kel’s wolf considers Mina part of their pack/ Kel is restless and decides to go for a run and finds the Alpha has put a tail on her to watch Kel’s comings and goings. When she gets back home Tavis is there. Kel has never been with a mate human or otherwise. Tavis was the first wolf to turn both Kel and her wolf’s head. Kel was told Ben was doing better after a rough night. Kel decided after Ben was fine she was leaving town. Being a lone female wolf in enemy territory isn’t a smart idea. Tavis had told Kel he couldn’t be with her as he thought she was barren - as he didn’t know who she really was. Now Tavis said they could work out their angry attraction until she leaves. She then told him she was leaving as soon as Ben was okay. Kel does kiss Tavis and her wolf said MINE! Tavis decides to google Kel and finds little except a different last night when he googles that he gets no searches found. He needs to solve who Kel is. He needs to know who he has been ordered to kill if Ben doesn’t make it. Who he might disobey his Alpha over. Kel hasn’t done anything worth a death sentence. No way Tavis will take an innocent life even it if meant he dies. He needed a plan, just in case he needed to prepare. If it comes down to it he will protect Kel with everything he is even his life. Kel goes to her unit the next evening and finds her sometimes assistant there-Tess. Tess is an amazon as well as a witch but a peaceful witch. Her coven is doing their best to keep balance in the world. They sent Tess to help Kel after she had helped one of their familiars. Than a fey female comes to the unit after being shot just had been had been. Feys are seriously allergic to iron in all forms. The feys right wing is bad, the number of holes in the delicate membrane had Kel worried. Ben dies and the Alpha demands Kel’s death . Kel calls her dad and he sends three of his main wolves and Kel calls Tavis and tells who she really is. Tavis’s Alpha decides to have Tavis and Kel mate to prevent a war between the two packs.
Excellent read. I hadn’t had a paranormal romance novel to read in awhile. So I really enjoyed this. It had just the right amount of everything. I loved Tavis and Kel together and how they interacted especially as they were both Alpha wolves. This book was full of action, suspense, danger and so much more. It had two wolf packs with two Alpha wolves in line to be Alpha of their respective packs. I felt so bad hen Mira betrayed Kel after the eight years of their friendship. Especially since Mina was the only person Kel had trusted. I loved the plot and pace. I read this in one day. I liked the werewolves, vampire, fey, witches and even a pet snake who had been freezing and snarky familiar. Kel explained to his vampire owner what was wrong. I loved how Kel wanted to make things better and take care of supernaturals medically especially. I love the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend this.

I enjoyed this tale of a modern day, well educated, female Alpha wolf shifter and her struggles assimilating in werewolf culture. The discomfort and prejudice Kaelen suffers will pave a way for other females. She is snarky and funny, especially seen in her relationship with fellow Heir, Tavis. Such an enjoyable book! I read this ARC on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Kealen, otherwise known as Kel, treats supernatural beings while studying at veterinarian school. She’s an heir to her father’s pack living in a rival pack’s territory. She treats the rival pack if they get hurt and she’s allowed to stay. If they knew she wasn’t barren, like her cousin told the Alpha she is, they’d be on her like fleas on a dog. When Tavis shows up one night at her clinic’s door with an injured werewolf, her life changes forever. She tries in vain to save the dying werewolf but the stakes are ratcheted up a few notches when the Alpha swears a blood oath. If the werewolf dies, she dies.

Tavis is instantly drawn to Kel but fights the attraction. She’s barren, isn’t she? When his Alpha swears a blood oath, Tavis protects her at all costs. She fights him on everything from how she mates to how she conducts herself in public yet he yearns for her. She’s his mate and he’s hers. All that changes when more werewolves are targeted by hunters hell-bent on exterminating supernaturals. When the hunters capture Kel, he’ll risk everything to rescue her. Will he make it in time or will he be too late?

I love paranormal romance, especially when it comes to werewolves, and Moonsworn is one of the most original ones I’ve read. A female Alpha heir? I’ve never heard of such a thing but I’m an instant convert. Kel is strong, fearless and her own woman. Matching her up with another Heir equally strong is brilliant on the author’s part. I want more!

I was hooked from the very beginning and the plot sped along at a quick pace. The action scenes were intense, especially when it came to chasing after the hunters. The romance scenes were hot and the romantic tension between Kel and Tavis gave me all the feels. There’s some heartbreaking scenes, which I won’t divulge, but made me an emotional mess.

If you’re looking for a paranormal romance with a new twist on werewolves, pick up Moonsworn today. I can’t wait for book two!

MOONSWORN has so many fun things—rival wolf packs, a smart-savvy alpha female MC, a sexy, insatiable male Heir, a mystery involving all the supernaturals, and exciting plot twists that keep you hooked. Tavis and Kel are a perfectly matched couple—they challenge each other, they want each other, they just fit, even when they’re pissing each other off. Ms. Renard’s supernatural world, especially her were-world, is written and detailed to perfection, and almost made me wishing I could shift and find myself a Tavis too. Love this sexy read by this talented new author, and waiting on the edge of my seat for book 2!

This book is a paranormal romance and it features one of my favourite creatures in the fantasy world: werewolves.
I've always loved the legend of this fantasy creature. Their loyalty, their love and their way of see things. I love how the pack is something united until death. The pack and their way of lives, and the mating and all things regarding werewolves have always fascinated me.
The fact that this book featured werewolves made it more appealing to me. The fact that the main character, Kealen, was an Alpha Heir ready to lead a pack was another one. A female werewolves who is getting ready to lead an entire pack? Count me in.
This book follows the life of Kaelen, a young and brilliant woman who is interning as a veterinarian in Pine Valley during the day and running a clinic for supernatural creatures during the night. And during one of the shift in the clinic Tavis, the Alpha Heir of the local pack, the Pine Valley pack, brings his pack mate Ben still barely alive unexpectedly.
Everything becomes even more serious when the Pine Valley pack Alpha swears an oath that binds Kaelen's life with Ben's.
When Ben dies, Kaelen is pushed to make a decision: mate with the Alpha heir in exchange of them letting her live.
It's a good book: fast-paced, with surprising twists and turns, and full of hot scenes. It's great how the chemistry between Tavis and Kaelen is. It made the book more interesting and got me hooked in from the start. Also, the mystery surrouding Ben's death makes this novel not only a swooning romance, but also a read who gets you on edge until the mystery is solved.

Title: Moonsworn
Author(s): Amber Renard
Character(s):
Kel O'Conley: 26 years old, Blonde, Blue Eyed
Tavis Alger: Black, Blue Eyed
Setting: Pine Valley
Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary
Content Rating: R
POV: Alternates between Heroine/Hero
Smexy Level: Hot
Favorite Quote(s):
― “Mating you is the best thing that ever happened to me and I would swear a thousand oaths all over again just to make sure we ended up together.”
Overall Opinion:
Kel is a veterinary physician, who is gaining more experience in the field before returning to her pack, treats fellow supernatural beings and their pets. Travis, another Heir, comes to Kel to have her help an injured packmate. In the progress of trying to figure what cause the life-threatening wounds, Travis’ Alpha doesn't trust Kel and swears a blood oat. Either she saves the hurt werewolf or she dies. After three days, the wolf succumbs to his death and Kel proposes a political mating with Tavis despite their bickering to save herself. What she doesn't expect is their instant chemistry yet that's almost pushed to the back burner when more attacks are being made to other supernatural creatures. It's either kill or be killed.

With this being said, I didn't anticipate this becoming an overall good read and I was pleasantly surprise by the Amber Renard's writing style. The strong characters and premise of the series drew me in. Supernatural romances could go either way: really good or really bad, and this was the former. Furthermore, I will mention that I do agree with a review about the end not fully bring explored nor overcome and it did feel rush but that didn't take away from the story. Generally speaking a good read I would recommended this series and I look forward to reading more of Amber Renard future works.

GREAT werewolf story, couldn't put it down! The storyline was creative (something very hard to accomplish with the amount of shifter stories out there nowadays) with twists and turns to keep one up all night reading.

I received a copy of Moonsworn by Amber Renard from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first novel by Amber Renard that I have read and it was okay. The summary was decent and was intriguing, but overall the book was just "okay."

The bad: too insta-lust with the main characters. However, my main critique was that the plot dragged, then end of the story felt very rushed. Rather than fully explore and overcome the conflict, it was resolved in a really smooched together ending. I'd give it 3 stars in all and might try a future book by Amber Renard to see if pacing is fixed in later novels.

Ms. Renard is an amazing writer who is very talented with the paranormal world. I read every page straight through, and wanted to read it all over again and immediately looked for the next book. The characters are skillfully created to be both authentic to the paranormal world, but unique to the world Amber sets them in because every character is individual and plays a role in the story. The storyline is solid and the pace of the story is perfect and will leave the reader in a quandary as to where it would be best to take a break. I caution you to make time before you sit down to read Moonsworn or be prepared to have to have someone pry the book out of your hands because you will never want to put it down.

An Intriguing Paranormal Romance

Kel and Travis are from two different wolf packs, but that doesn’t douse the sparks burning between them from the first day they met. Both fight the urge to mate, until someone targets the supernaturals. When Kel is captured, Travis vows to save her.

Amber Reynard weaves an intriguing paranormal romance with a unique twist. I rate this story a 4.5

***ARC was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher for a fair and honest review***

Overall rating: 3/5 While I liked it, the book had some pacing issues.

Heroine (Kaelen O’Cur): 3/5 Kel is a newly graduated veterinarian who treats the supernatural and is the Heir to her pack and one day will rule as Alpha. She is very strong willed and dominant.

Hero (Tavis Alger): 3/5 Tavis is the Heir to his pack and will rule as Alpha in the near future. He is dominant but gives Kel a lot of leeway.

Plot: 2.5/5 Really good start that fizzled toward the end. When Tavis brings an injured wolf into her clinic for the supernatural, Kel tries her absolute best to save him from a gunshot wound. Tavis’ Alpha swears an oath that can’t be broken to ensure that if the injured wolf dies that the one responsible will pay with their life. The pack views Kel as the responsible party. To save her Tavis must bind his life to hers by mating her, will he do it? Will the shooter be found?

Personal Review: I liked the bond Kel and Tavis share, where they aggravate each other but will act as a team when needed. The banter is cute, the sex scenes are good. But they have some real issues that I’m not sure they ever work out. Both are dominant, yes, but Kel forgets to include Tavis in most of her plans or discuss decisions she has made that impact them both. She doesn’t seem to really care about his take or feelings about much. When Tavis tries to mimic her behavior it’s out of his own hurt feelings, but she really just didn’t think about him.

The idea for the plot was rather good, a who done it regarding who is attacking the supernatural with very informed attacks, but everything comes to a close rather quickly, almost too quickly. One of the people responsible is stupidly obvious from the beginning but there is no foreshadowing for the another person. Yes it should be a surprise but it shouldn’t hit like a blind side to the audience, a evil character reveal should make sense once it is discovered and this one doesn’t.

I would read more from this author, the good bits of the book are really good.

This book was totally unexpected. This had a lot of elements all together, which produced a completely surprising read.

Kel is an independent, tough as nails, heir-to-be of a neighboring pack. She's traveling incognito, with the reluctant blessing of the local pack, who has been told she can't be a mate. Acting as a local vet, as well as supernatural doctor to shifters, vampires, fae, and anything else that goes bump in the night, she is suddenly dragged into a whole mess of drama when the local heir brings a wounded shifter to her door.

Tavis, the heir of a relatively troubled pack, has no choice but to wander into Kel's life when hunters ramp up their actions against the supernatural community. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way, but ultimately Kel and Tavis end up needing each other to survive this tumultuous time. OK, the mystery wasn't exactly too hard to solve, but who cares? This book was so addictive that I couldn't put it down! This story is definitely standalone (no cliffhanger) but it is definitely the introduction to this new world. I'm sold! Give me more books, please!

Tavis and Kel were an interesting pair in the start of this series. I liked how they interacted and how their mating came about. It felt fresh and unique.

Tavis brings a wounded werewolf to Kel to be treated for unique and dangerous injuries. However Kel is hiding her complete identity in order to stay un-bothered on Pine Valley territory. When Tavis' alpha swears an oath to kill her if his wolf dies, Kel is forced to reveal herself.

Watching Kel and Tavis work things out was a fun read. I enjoyed watching two alphas battle it out and find solutions to their relationship. Theirs was not the norm and they made it work for them, eventually.

Title: Moonsworn
Series: Pine Valley Wolves Book #1
Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: Amber Renard
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Blurb: Kel O'Conley, DVM, treats supernaturals and their pets. To save herself, Kel proposes a political mating with Tavis despite their bickering. She didn't expect their white-hot attraction or developing feelings, but when more supernaturals are targeted, Tavis and Kel must work together or lose everything.
Favorite quote(s): “You can always sleep on the couch, floor, front porch, or bath tub. The right to sleep in my bed is earned, not taken for granted.”
Thoughts: Moonsworn was an interesting read – in some ways it was very much like a typical paranormal romance book about shifters, however in many other ways it very much stood out. Kel is a strong female character and an Alpha in her own right….an oddity in her world as there are no other alpha females. The werewolf world is used to females being submissive and no one knows quite what to think of Kel….including Tavis. They butt heads quite often, and Tavis swings from trying to dominate her to being proud of her strength.
All in all, it’s an intriguing read and something a little different than the norm.

**Was given an ARC by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

Awesome book! I definitely recommend reading, I couldn't put down my Kindle.

Kel, a wolf shifter/veterinarian, is living on another pack's territory with an agreement with the Alpha of the pack that she will treat their wounded for free. The Alpha and his pack believe that she's a lone wolf, having no pack; and that she's not a threat because she's barren.

When one of their wolves is shot with deadly silver bullets, Kel and the Heir to the pack--the next Alpha, Tavin, work together to save the injured wolf. The Alpha swears that if the wolf dies, he will have Tavin seek a blood debt; her own death.

What no one but her own pack knows is that she's the Heir to her own pact. Her parents wanted her to pursue her medical degree instead of mating young and breeding pups.

When the injured wolf dies, the Alpha seeks revenge, instead Kel and her Alpha have a hidden plan already in place. Form a political alliance between the two packs by Kel mating with Tavin.

Tavin lusted after her when he believed that she was barren. Killing her seemed unfair when his father even suggested it, but now he gets to spend eternity with the blonde beauty.

When the attacks get worse after their mating ceremony, things become more clear as to whom is behind these cruel killings. The two wolves need to stick together now even more than ever to find the group and eliminate the problem.

A must read!

Meh. The premise of the book is really promising. Kel, an alpha heir in her own right, wants to pursue her dreams of becoming a vet and avoids wolf politics. Tavis is heir in his own pack and an accident brings them together.

The book started out strong. I like a headstrong female character. Kel doesn't really grown throughout the book. Yes, she realizes she is selfesh but is pretty much "oh well". Tavis compromises with Kel, but she takes that as her due.

There are a lot of plot dynamics going on in the book and the ending felt rushed to me. The mystery of who was responsible for hurting the wolves is sorted out. The dynamics and futures of both pack are just left hanging. Not a cliffhanger per se....I'm assuming more is coming in the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
