I have read Delta James books in the past and have found them very enjoyable. She has a way of mixing a great story with some very hot sexy times with a great balance that makes it entertaining and fun to read. So with this in mind I was very excited to read this book which might be why I so very deeply disappointed in it. Where is the story in this one? There doesn’t seem to really be any kind of catalyst to push the story forward and all we have is a bunch of $exy scenes that feel repetitive and overblown. All of that and I haven’t even mentioned the two main characters that I am supposed to engage and invest in and that did not happen, at least not in any sort of positive way. Melody lacked a personality. She came across as weak and meek. In a book like this I am looking for a sassy, strong female lead that challenges her Dom. Speaking of the Dom, the one in this book, Luc, did not deserve that title. He was not a strong confident Dom, guiding his sub to be her best self, he was a bully. He wouldn’t even allow her to voice complaints or concerns. How is that safe when the Dom won’t even listen to his sub and decides that it is his way or punishment and then still his way. I just didn’t like this story or these characters. I expect better from Delta James. This just wasn’t it for me.

“Tamed on the Ranch” is a low angst, erotic, contemporary western romance set in the same realm as “Taming His Cowgirl” but reads as a complete standalone novel. Featuring one hot, dominant, French Canadian ex-rodeo rider/clown and a wedding planner, escaping an abusive ex, both main characters are equally portrayed as intelligent, adept, likeable characters. The plot revolves around a family owned working ranch, expanding into a guest ranch vacation and wedding destination. Our heroine takes a job at a ranch to get out an abusive relationship. In the process she discovers a new lover.
This is an erotic story set on a working ranch and featuring lots of discipline (spankings) and steamy scenes. The story is well written and includes some solid and well developed characters. But it is also missing something. Our hero is rather overbearing. I get (and generally like reading about) the entire D/S dynamic, but when the heroine is no longer allowed to think for herself or take any action without permission, it is crossing a line into a different genre. And I found this story skirting that edge far too much for my liking.
There also is no real resolution with the ex, which is rather disappointing.
So while the story itself was good, and I did enjoy the steaming scenes, the overall thing left me less than satisfied.

The story will easily read as a stand-alone but does have characters from Taming His Cowgirl, Ryder and his wife, Sierra. The story will bring Luc Girard, a friend of both Ryder and Sierra from their rodeo days together when Ryder hires Luc to help with a ranch operation. They are expanding, and it includes raising horses to use as broncs for the rodeo. Another plan in place is to offer a chance for people to come and work at a dude ranch setting, and also offer a venue for families and weddings. For both Luc and Melody, the story is a second chance at finding happiness and love in life—it just had to take them both to Idaho to find each other.
Melody Jackson has a wedding business that she has worked hard at, but with her pushy and abusive boyfriend/partner, she is so unhappy that she knows she has to make a change, and getting a chance to leave everything behind and start over comes from Sierra Morgan. She is taking a one way trip to Idaho and will become the new wedding coordinator.
Luc is a man, just like Ryder, protective, dominant and possessive. It doesn’t take long for Luc to put Melody in his crosshairs. This is one easy to read, well written book, with a likeable hero and heroine. Whilst this might not be my favourite read by the author, it is still a hot and sexy story. I felt the story was a little 'tell' rather than 'show' at first, so that the relationship between Luc and Melody almost seemed to come out of nowhere. However once the pair were in said relationship the emotion flowed readily through the story and I found their love very believable. They shared a deep connection and have a very passionate relationship. Luc might call Melody 'mouse' but she is no doormat heroine, even though she allows him to spank her. Luc is hugely caring of Melody and puts her above all else.
There was a very slight timeline discrepancy around Julie's appointment to cook an 'audition meal' However it really didn't affect the flow of the story or my enjoyment of it.
This is a book where the couple have a domestic discipline relationship, with Luc being the dominant partner and Melody submitting to his will. He does spank her as punishment for poor/foolish/dangerous behaviour. If that will offend you then this might not be the book for you. However if you read with an open mind, and remember that Melody willingly agrees to this set up, you will find a very steamy read with a couple who care very deeply about each other.

I really like Luc and was hoping he would get his story!! He needed a woman and wanted a relationship like his friends, Ryder and Sierra. He was also of the same mind that Ryder was, meaning he wasn't above spanking and punishing his woman! IF he ever found her! Along comes Melody. She's running from an emotionally abusive ex and applies for a job at the ranch. When they met, sparks fly and before long they are in a relationship. But Melody is keeping secrets from everyone. What is going to happen when those secrets come out? Will she still have her job? Will Luc want out of the relationship? This was a wonderful story and the characters are very engaging. Some of the time, I wondered if Melody didn't get in trouble just to get a spanking! LOL I loved seeing the characters from the first book and seeing how their loves were going. I can't wait for the next book to come out! If you loved the first book, you'll love this one too!

Really wanted to like it
I have enjoyed these types of books in the past but this one really felt lacking. First of all there was really no serious conflict to ground the plot. (Spoilers). Although she escaped from a dominant, manipulative, and abusive relationship, that never really can back to move along the plot. Also, they really didn't have a conflict and resolution as a couple. And the whole "maintenance" spankings that she clearly detested (as opposed to punishment or erotic spankings), were just so unnecessary and esp so on her wedding night. I really tried so hard to rest my feminist hackles and see the relationship as something other ppl might enjoy, but the H essentially NEVER let her share anything in terms of what she may want from the relationship or let her explain when she did one or other things wrong. Because I never felt like she shared enough of herself to actually connect w him and trust him enough to be secure in her submission (and getting turned on by it, which she never really came to terms with even though she gave up every aspect of personality for him) . I just didn't believe they were ever connected beyond his need to have a sex slave and her need to be that sex slave. Also, and maybe this is the Crux of it aside from the complete lack of a story arc, every sentence, every paragraph is so completely wooden it's like reading facts from a history book. There were few errors, but the writing was just so strangely sterile it was as if the writer was trying to be as unable to connect w her emotions as the h.
As I said, I like spanking books but it's harder when it's clear that the H intends them for purposes not just to discipline at the same time as arouse. And washing mouth out w soap... I guess I'm too new to this, but the only way the submission is acceptable is if the h is truly trusting the Dom and is wanting what is happening that she is clearly stimulated by it. Otherwise it has too much daddyish/pedophilia connotations for me to be anything but at a minimum slightly disgusted.
I gave it 2 points instead of 1 bc it did seem to include a lot of facts about working w horses and cattle a la apathetic teacher asking "Bueller... Bueller...?"

Melody is headstrong , hard to train, she gets her fair share of Luc discipline in more ways than one. When she knows that she screwed up, she is prepared for what punishment he has in store for her.He says he does it out of love.

I enjoy some erotica. However, how many spankings can a woman endure, how many welts can she put up with, or how many times can she stand naked in the corner. Melody is told that Luc delivers these punishments out of love. Delta James repeats the same scenes over and over again.

I enjoyed this book from start to end. Delta James has a wonderful writing style, she captivates her readers with interesting storylines and characters who are nice developed. This is a sequel to “Taming His Cowgirl” which I loved and while you do not need to read or listen to that one to enjoy “Tamed on the Ranch” I highly recommend that you do, it is Ryder and Sierra’s story and an introduction to life on the ranch. Their plans to expand takes off in this book. Ryder has history with Luc, worked with him before and brought him on to the ranch to help run it. Melody Jackson was in a bad relationship and saw an opportunity for a job on the Crooked Creek ranch, working with Sierra as they expand on the business to hold events such as weddings. Melody hits it off with Sierra and she is happy to take the job. She mets Luc and the two find they have great chemistry together. Luc is an alpha male and he shows her how she should be loved and how D/s and discipline really works. Her ex treated her so badly so she was hesitant at first, but he knew what she needed. I liked how everything played out, there was drama, angst, some hot kink and a build-up to a great romance. Thank you Delta James for another great story.
I listened to the Audible edition, narrated by the talented Jack Calihan. He is a versatile voice performer who brings these characters to life, gives each their own distinct voice and personality. I loved how he portrayed these characters, how he made Luc, made sound like the alpha Dom that he was, loved the accent he gave him too. He does a great job with the female voices too, his Melody sounded sweet. Jack Calihan is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. You can hear how much heart he puts into his work. her safety.The storyline is filled with many steamy sex scenes but it has just
as many punishment scenes.At first Melody was unsure if she could accept
a domestic discipline relationship with Luc but he evokes such passion within
her.He does not hesitated to spank her for putting herself in danger but he
also comes up with other inventive punishments.Reading how Melody came
to accept Luc's role in their relationship was emotional at times.
I enjoyed this book which included Ryder and Sierra who have a similar
relationship.The author interspersed Luc's past and how he came to now
work on the ranch.I would have liked to know more background about

I enjoyed this book which included Ryder and Sierra who have a similar
relationship.The author interspersed Luc's past and how he came to now
work on the ranch.I would have liked to know more background about

Delta James does it again, this time making me fall for the French horse trainer! Melody is running away from an abusive relationship. She finds a home at Crooked Creek Ranch, immediately melding into the family of Ryder and Sierra. With this comes a handsome, strong horse trainer with a French accent! Luc Girard is suave, protective and dominant. Melody is attracted to him, but there is some hesitation. She is hiding a secret, but will he be able to get it out of her? I enjoyed this story. It has spice, and passion as well as some fun life as found on a ranch. Luc is tough character, knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. Melody was a little tougher for me to like. She has a past, and her secret was not as relationship dependent as I anticipated! A little bit of a let down, but the couple themselves are fun and frisky. I also love seeing Ryder and Sierra again, always fun to check in with old friends.
The best part of this story is the narration for me. Jack Calihan nails this one with a variety of voices. He has a deep, rich inflection in his voice that is alluring and keeps Luc's character very possessive. He easily steps into women's voices and gives us a consistency from book 1 with Ryder and Sierra, so it's like coming home. Loved his performance.

This entertaining, steamy western romance caught my attention from the first page, & it was an extreme pleasure to read.
The story-line & plot is splendid & flows smoothly. The main characters are extremity likeable with unique personalities & they react with varying emotions to the situations they find themselves in. There are some character crossover but this book is complete & standalone.
There is: a retired rodeo bull fighter (Luc Girard), a wedding planner & city girl (Melody Jackson), a working ranch, a manipulative abusive ex (Jason), twists & turns, intrigue, decisions, memories, secrets, verbal banter, friendship, confrontations, disbelief, shock, consequences, defiance, anger, profanity, spanking, discipline, domination/submission, guilt, mischievous behavior, emotional feelings, acceptance, happiness, love, contentment & graphic steamy scenes.
I would absolutely recommend the western romance to people who enjoy reading this genre. I really doubt that you would be disappointed in this book.

On the Ranch
I really enjoyed this book, I love reading about Rodeo's and ranching life. This book did not disappoint it explained the life a rodeo cowboy, how they ride the bull and how they get hurt. It then goes on to explain the need for try the clowns, and its not to make the crowd laugh. I also loved how the book transitioned to the breading aspect of the rodeo animals and life on a ranch. A lot of research went into writing this book.
It also would not be a Delta James Book if there was no romance a there was plenty of that. The true alpha dominant male with a loving powerful voice and hand is able to bring a strong successful single minded moment to submission. The spanking and sex is powerful. As well as fun to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

The beginning of the book, laying out Luc's past and how he ended up on Cross Creek ranch was interesting.
I was surprised that Melody submitted to Luc's dominance so quickly after what she went through with Jason. Maybe because she became fast friends with Sierra, it was easier for her to trust Luc.
After being on the ranch for a while, with Ryder, Sierra, and Luc all wondering what Melody was hiding, I was surprised when she revealed her secret. I honestly thought it was going to be something a bit more relevant.
You do get romance, witty banter, friendship, support, loyalty, and a HEA. If a ton of descriptive sex, spanking, dominance, or submission offend you, then this is not the book for you.

What a beautiful story this really was to read, and i have to say i thoughly enjoyed reading every page of it. I just loved Luc's character he was beautiful. He had patience for Melody because he knew she was going to be his, he just had to take it slowly . As for Melody's character, getting herself out of a bad situation and blooming into another one later on just beautiful.
I have high praise for this wonderful story and whats even more better is that of course these to wonderful people live and work on the same ranch and Ryder and Sierra, so of course with the ladies theres serious fun with them both and of course not to mention a few no nos as well.
Enjoy, i gave this book a definate 5 + star rating.

Romance cowboy style. This author writes a captivating story regardless of genre. In this story, she takes us on romantic ride where a strong woman learns how fulfilling it can be to be under the protection of a man who firmly believes that domestic discipline is the best foundation for a relationship. This book was more layed back as far as the backstory is concerned, yet was full of the emotional connection and drool-worthy men you have come to expect from this author. Although a sequel, you don’t have to have read the predecessor; but I guarantee you will want to after reading this book so save yourself time and pick it up along with this one. Great weekend read that added the five-star sizzle to mine.

Please heed the authors note about sexual scenes and spanking, but if you are still reading this review then you have to stop and read this book! I loved it!
It is a stand-alone, but will be part of a series and I really want to know about all the couples including Ryder and Sierra!
This was impossible to put down. It is well written and pulls you along so gently with a romance that has you grinning through the book sprinkled with light steamy sex and spanking!
I need to go back and check out the authors back catalogue and I will be watching for more by this author

Seriously that's it. This will be the last Delta James book I read, just need to stop being hopeful that she will write something I can enjoy. Honestly, if I met some of these stupid women that end of getting spanked and prodded by the H's in her books, I would want to hit them (they are that annoying). I know that these stories are supposed to have h's who are a bit annoying to justify the disciple (punishment, spankings and anal) but the development is just so bad. These women put themselves in really stupid situations over and over again all the while crying "I'll never do it again" only to turn the page and yep, this stupid woman is doing something stupid yet again. Whenever I get a chance to review one of Delta James’ books, I jump at it because I know am in for a great read! As usual this one did not disappoint, we have the sexy hot alpha who falls for a female who pushes her luck and his buttons a few times. The result is a hot and steamy relationship that includes some spanking. Although, as usual, this book can be read as a stand-alone it can also be read as part of a series as some characters cross over but each book concentrates on a different couple/romance. Well, first off, I have to say I love all of Delta's books! The first book in this series, Taming His Cowgirl, was great. And, this is where we meet Luc!
Luc is working with Ryder and Sierra on their ranches. Melody has taken a job there. There is instant attraction between Luc and Melody. But, Luc is a dominant man and he takes Melody in hand quickly.
I really enjoyed this story and I hope there is another book. I would love to read about Julie and Billy and maybe Ruth and Charlie. I'm sure there is a story there!

This is a good story, and I see a lot of parallels drawn between Queenie the lead mare for the newest additions to their breeding program and Melody.

A fabulous addition to the series. This is a sweet, sexy cowboy romance. Luc is a French cowboy who falls hard and fast for Melody. It takes Melody a little longer to feel the same. I loved Luc’s personality and character. He is so strong and dominate yet knows how to give Melody the space she needs to be herself. He doesn’t want to change her just guide her. I really liked how proud he was of all of her accomplishments. Run don’t walk to get this wonderful cowboy romance.
