Fictional depiction mixed with history can confuse people who are not experts on history or have not had the chance & time to study a lot of relevant historical materials. This is so well written that it easy to forget the boundary between history and fiction. As a story, considering the time period, the style of prose holds up ok.
I do not know if it is a tradition on this subcontinent or if it was omitted by the publisher, but a list of references and some hints regarding which parts are actual history could have been included. Lack of this has resulted in confusion to some people (speaking from anecdotal experience).
A very well written book, one of the first Muslim novel in the subcontinent in Bengali. Although it is not entirely historically accurate, the author used his creativity and imagination to bring to us one of the most tragic sacrifices in human history!
I think the name of the book I read in childhood was "Chotoder Bishad Sindhu". I couldn't find that book so I put this one on my shelf. As I have already mentioned, I read this book a long ago. Naturally, I forgot most of it but I still remember the deep impression it left on my mind.
