I have found a new author Chris Mooney his writing style suits me to a T & he writes a suspenseful novel which is fast paced it never stopped from beginning to end, I found the main character Darby McCormack to be a strong powerful heroine who was still finding it tough in a man's world.

The plot was very well written full of corruption by officials in the government & Boston P.D, actually I loved Darby & Coop they did their job brilliantly throughout & enjoyed the thrills & spills that Mooney takes you on in this novel, even the bad guys were likeable which is unusual will have to go to the beginning now to see how Darby's character develops.


The plot had everything that the reader wants in a thriller of this genre bombs, pregnant women held hostage & corruption to the max cover-up's everywhere. 4 stars

I have trouble relating to the main character in this series. She started out as a forensic specialist and then became a whistleblower uncovering corruption in the Boston Police Department, which cost her her career. Now she’s like a female Jack Reacher: she sold her house and has everything she owns on the back of her motorcycle. Supposedly she’s gone free lance, but she keeps getting involved in BPD business and not really getting on with her own life. Most of the people she ends up working with don’t like her because she’s angry and has an ax to grind. The only person she has a relationship with is Jackson Cooper. That’s another thing about this series that’s frustrating: their relationship never goes anywhere. It’s not even clear how they feel about each other.

So why do I keep reading these books? I guess it’s because the situations Darby (the main character) gets into are interesting and because I keep wondering what’s going to happen with her. I don’t know if the author is going to continue this series, but if he does, I hope he figures out how to make Darby more of a protagonist instead of just reacting to the same things over and over again.

This one was a cracker, plots within plots, crooks, corrupt officials working in a bent system and millions of threads linking it all together. Very well written and thoroughly entertaining right up to the last sentence on the very last page. My first foray into the work of Chris Mooney and based on this piece of work it certainly wont be my last. Four stars from me and my thanks to the author for his work.

Darby McCormick returns to Boston Police Department but no sooner has she entered the station than a gunman takes people hostage and claims every three hours a bomb will detonate unless his wishes are granted. Darby acts as a negotiator and tries to make the FBI work as efficiently as possible to ensure minimum loss of lives.

This is q fast paced, well written addition to the series. I really enjoyed it and didn't want to put the book down to go to sleep.

I enjoy Chris Mooney books, this one was not one of his strongest but having got to know characters through his other books I still found it enjoyable. Four stars because of this but as a stand alone book I think it would only have three stars my advice if you are new to this wonderful author read some of his early work first ,

My Review


The book kicks off pretty quick, Darby is back and headed into the Boston police department (headquarters) to help with an old case. She ends up in the middle of a hostage situation, threats of a bomb going off around the city, every three hours if the demands are not met. Darby gets backs up almost immediately but seems to have the ear of the hostage taker and is determined not to lose any more lives. The bad guy wants the previous mayor to come to the station with a tv crew and until he does the clock is counting.

Darby is a great character, I am a huge fan. she doesn't let past grudges go, she is loyal to those close to her and she always tries to do what she thinks is right. Some shady shady behaviour comes to light, secrets, dodgy past darkness and Darby is the the thick of everything.

These books are always pacey, shocks, surprises and when you think you got something down the author pulls the rug out from under you. I love to be kept on my toes and Mooney does that, again! 4 stars for me this time, I already have the others on the mountain just waiting to be plucked. Also, short chapters guys so if you are struggling a bit with reading just now, Mooney is perfect to pick up!

Every Three Hours is the sixth book in the Darby McCormick series by Chris Mooney. Darby is back in Boston with Coop. When she arrives at Boston police station she is confronted by a guy wearing a suicide vest, claiming to have planted several bombs around the city, which he intends to set off every three hours if his demands are not met.

I enjoyed this book, it was different from the others in the series, rather than chasing a serial killer she is dealing with a single person threatening the whole of Boston. It was also nice to see Darby's father mentioned again, as I believe a lot of what led Darby to where she is today has to do with her father.

As always this book was well written with a great plot and fantastic characters. I have now read the whole series and cannot wait to read more of Chris Mooney's books.

Alien scienticians came from on high to experiment on the brains of people who compulsively read the following:
Psychological thrillers
Police procedural thrillers
Crime thrillers
Domestic thrillers
Mystery thrillers
Cosy crime thrillers
A combination of all the above

They found the brain can only cope with so much then it goes all Jenga. Subject speeds the Jenga process by scrawling down titles, authors and dates in a notebook to review at a later date, attempting to match near-illegible writing with online information to boost memory. I've crashed and burned, people.

I deciphered my writing, I matched the title online and..nothing. Oh actually one thing: main gal is called Darby McCormick which is a cool name but so the type of name a male author would choose for a female forensic investigator with daddy issues who hates the FBI. Call me a nitpicking bitch (many have) but I know the genre.

Response on Goodreads is fairly Marmite. I have a feeling past me didn't like this book much but I am giving it two stars because it is a book and books are hard to write and I have reader guilt for not remembering anything even though IT WASN'T ME IT WAS THE ALIENS.

I've now gotten through all the Darby books released so far. I absolutely hate Darby. She's an absolute asshole, probably a psychopath, way too angry and violent, and is just all in all a ridiculous character. Whilst reading the books I spent most of the time making fun of her and her reactions, and at the same time being exasperated over how repetitive the writing is. It's like a bad soap opera, where what was just explained in the last scene gets a recap in the next. And the one after that. And the one after that. And the one.. I guess you get my drift.

So why did I read so many? No idea. I guess I thought it would get better, but it only gets worse. I might subconsciously hate myself.

If you don't mind the main character being an over the top violent person with daddy issues who thinks anyone who she doesn't like or approves of deserves to be shot and who is emotionally damaged beyond repairs, has a saviour complex beyond belief and is absolutely mental - go ahead.

Oh, and the and story lines are quite predictable as well: just blame the FBI.

I bought this book not knowing it was the sixth in a series! Fortunately it turned out not to matter at all - sure, there were a few references to things that happened earlier, but anything you really needed to know to enjoy this book was suitably described, without having it feel too much like an info-dump (BSC, I'm looking at you!)

And enjoy it I did! It turned out to be a very captivating suspense novel, and I had a hard time putting it down. It's not high literature in any kind of way, but you kinda know that going into it. I'd guessed some of the events ahead of time, but definitely not all.

As unfortunately often happens with such books, the end was a bit of a let-down, but not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the book as a whole.

So far the only book in the series I don't care for. This was a mind numbing story about the team communicating with a person that has taken hostages and laid siege to the Boston Police Headquarters.
The demand is to bring the former Governor to meet and have a conversation on live TV, and until the Governor appears a bomb in different locations of the city will detonate every three hours.
The team needs to find out who this person is, and the reason why.
Midway through the book I didn't care who or why. I wanted it to end as quickly as possible.
My advice is to skip this one.

Very action packed and full of twists.
I read this as a stand alone and the characters' backstories were heavily referenced which was a little hard to keep up with, but everything was explained.
I enjoyed the plot and the twist at the end (which I didn't expect at all) but I felt like there were too many interlinking characters and backstories to keep up with which bogged down the plot slightly. Also, the main character is quite unlikeable.

Darby McCormick continues her evolution. She is no longer the naive, emotional and inexperienced investigator. In this offering she is in large and in charge despite the attempts of various law enforcement types, all men, that try to take her down. This novel has a few surprises even for regular Darby McCormick readers. If there was one negative, it is that the plot attempts maybe just a little too much in the end.

I don;t know why but I did not like this one as well . In this book Darby enters the Boston Police station - and runs right into a person with a bomb attached... Darby begins talking to him and follows the instructions. He wants the ex-Mayor to come to the station and a TV crew

A generally okay thriller, but the story had somewhat predictable plotlines. Not to mention a few spelling mistakes and less than progressive language; especially about the LGBT+ community. At one point referring to trans men as "transgendered females". This was a little off putting and took me out of the story.

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It's entertaining and moves along well, but there's some basic errors in the grammar and writing which distracted me. It's embarrassing such basic errors exist in a published book.
