When Lucy was just fifteen, she left home with Corey, a man who seemed to be perfect in every way. She even allowed his family to create fake documents so she could marry him without her parents' permission. But soon after they were married, his true colors started to shine, and she found herself trapped with a monster. He was abusive and controlling and she had no way out.
It took another fifteen years to gather the courage to run, but when she did, she felt more free than she ever had before. She went straight home to her brother Alex, hoping to reconnect with the only family she had left. Unfortunately, she didn't have much time for a family reunion before Corey tracked her down.
Lucy took off with just a few dollars and the clothes on her back, hoping to guide Corey away from Alex and his new family. But Alex couldn't let his sister run forever. He sent a trusted friend from the San Antonio Police Dept. to find Lucy and bring her home safely, unknowing Zane would not only defend Lucy from predators but also steal her heart in the process.
Lucy ran away with her boyfriend at age 15, not realizing that he was a controlling, abusive jerk. Now as an adult she's gotten the courage to leave him, but her husband Cory is not going to let her go. She'll stay with him or he'll kill her. Lucy reconnects with her brother Alex, but runs away from him to protect him from Corey. So Alex sends her to his friend Zane, a police officer in San Antonio. Can Zane keep Lucy's ex from ending her life?
Aspen Drake's Operation: Alpha books are good. She's able to mix romance and suspense well. However, the book is too short, and could do with elaboration in places, and a more in-depth exploration of the characters and their feelings. It's entertaining, but I think Defending Lucy had the potential to be even better.
This is the 3rd book in the Finding Shelter series and can absolutely be read as a standalone. It is about Lucy and Zane. Lucy was just a young teenager when she was lured away from home by a man named Corey. He seemed perfect in every way and she though she loved him and they would live happily ever after. To the point that his family created fake documents saying she was of age and she could marry him without her family's consent. But soon after they married, Corey showed his true colors and the monster he really was. And she lived for 15 years under his abuse and control. But soon after she ran to her brother, Corey found her and she was forced to run again. Zane is called in by his friends as a favor to her brother Alex. Alex needs someone who can help Lucy to not only be kept safe but to hopefully stop him once and for all. Neither expected to actually like each other. Or to come to mean what they will to each other.
I really liked this book. Lucy didn't lose who she was even after living with a monster for more than 15 years. She still manages to see the beauty in life even though she doesn't think she will be able to live hers out. Zane has been going through a very rough time when his friend asks him for help. He does it because he feels like it is the right thing to do even though he doesn't feel like he is the right person for it. But when he meets Lucy and gets to know her, he knows his whole life has changed. I loved how they are together. They manage to put aside the things that happened in the past and move forward and try to be happy. And even when the worst happens, they still know that they want and care for the other person. It was a great read!
The blurb says Alex sends a friend from the police force to look after Lucy. He doesn't. He calls his FBI buddy, Cruz, and CRUZ contacts a friend on the police force. And do most lawyer firms go by the Bureau these days?
“You’ve been looking for redemption for a long fucking time, Zane. This is your chance to get there in time. You can change history for someone. I know that’s what you’re waiting for.” “You’re wrong, man. I’m not waiting to change someone else’s history.” I bark out an amused chuckle. “I’m waiting for my history to be changed.” You literally canNOT change history no matter what you do lol
“I can’t exactly call her to ask. But she said she’d be where we used to catch frogs. And that’s the only place where we made games out of catching the most frogs and trying to race them.” But in the previous book, Alex tells us "Jenna mentioned the place where we used to catch frogs, but we caught frogs at a lot of places"
'a large hand closes over my mouth and an arm of solid muscle closes around my belly, holding me in place. “Don’t bother trying to scream, Lucy. No one will hear you out here.” WTF? Why on EARTH would the MMC do this instead of just saying hi? We don't need "suspense" in the form of stupidity
An intense drama about a woman on the run from her husband. Married at age 15, she is forced to live under the tyranny of a man who is cruel, abusive and very dangerous. After fifteen years in captivity, she finally makes her escape for freedom. While on the run, she managed to reconnect with her brother who also arranges to hire someone to protect her. A fast moving chase, a new attraction, and finally salvation all make for an exciting read.
I don’t know, I feel like the characters started as the deep introspective people then became fluff when they met. The concern about Corey and Lucy’s need to protect herself was extremely anti climatic. Like she just sat there. It’s the first time I’ve read this author, parts of me want to read Searching for Shan, but the way this book brought it up, kinda like a commercial.
Love, love, love Zane and Lucy! Lucy is running from her abusive ex. Zane is feeling sorry for himself as an innocent woman was killed on his last case. When he gets a call to find and protect Lucy, sparks fly, but can he protect Lucy from her ex. He is from a powerful and influential family with ties high up in the state of Texas. Definitely recommend the whole series, although this one is my favorite so far.
Zane has been hiding out. Feeling guilty for something he can't change. Lucy is on the run from her abusive ex. Cruz convinces Zane to contact Alex, her brother. Zane finds Lucy. If the time comes, can he protect her??
This was a really good love story! Definitely steamy, but a great read over a weekend. The threat after Lucy definitely keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens. A great read
This is not only a action packed story, but a beautiful romance to boot. It was expertly written and has characters that are both new and old. I loved it. There is sexual content and it reads quickly. Anxiously awaiting the next one.
Good storyline - good premise.. I really wanted to like it, but I just found too much going on behind the scenes and it was choppy. I did like the hero and heroine way better on this one -- author is improving her character building
This was a quick and cute story. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. It's my first book by this author and i just might have to go searching for some more.
Fast paced book right from the first page, read in one sitting. Plenty of action and heat along with a hea. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
I absolutely loved this book. This was a fast paced book of fast love. Lucy became free of her monster of an ex and Zane got the redemption he needed, saving the woman he loved! Beautiful
