Daughter of Air #3

Cursed Flame

Rate this book
When gods battle, worlds shatter. Now it's the Earth turn…

The queen of the underworld has stolen the mermaid Ashe's most treasured possession. To reclaim it, Ashe must unravel ancient mysteries to find the doorway to hell.

She doesn't need or want the marine biologist Varun tagging along. There is no safety for a mortal in a war between elementals and vengeful gods, but curiosity is one of his greatest vices, second only to his love for Ashe.

Love does not guarantee access to all her secrets. Without the facts, Varun cannot possibly understand the risks, especially when the queen of the underworld is convinced that Ashe is far more than she pretends to be…

…a goddess in hiding--the queen of heaven and earth.

Jade Kerrion, an award-winning author, got her start in fan fiction. She developed a loyal reader base with her fan fiction series based on the MMORPG Guild Wars. She was accused of keeping her readers up at night, distracting them from work, housework, homework, and (far worse), from actually playing Guild Wars.

And then she wondered why just screw up the time management skills of gamers? Why not aspire to screw everyone else up too? So here she is, writing books that aspire to keep you from doing anything else useful with your time.

She lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her wonderfully supportive husband and her two young sons, Saint and Angel, (no, those aren't their real names, but they are like saints and angels, except when they're not.)

Varun loves Ashe, and his other vice is his unquenchable curiosity, so he is ready to follow Ashe even as she tries to find the doorway to hell in search of the Queen of the Underworld, who had stolen her most treasured possession. However, this is a war between Goddesses and elementals and not one in which a mortal would ever have a chance of survival, but Varun is no longer just a mortal, he is now an earth elemental. he had inherited his powers from Duggae yet still needed to learn how to make full use of these. We are taken on the most amazing voyage across oceans and continents in this full of adventure novel, as we follow Ashe and Varun in search of the doorway to the underground where they hope to confront Ereshkigal and to find Zamir, Ashe's stolen son. They have to fight Ondine all the way as she is sent to stop them from facing off with her Goddess, Ondine has been taken over by Neti and she is now the guardian of the portal to the underworld and has the powers of a fire elemental. So much happens with all three using their powers of air, earth and fire firstly against one another and later against a common enemy as they realise that they need to work together to overcome Nergal, enemy to all of them and to the world they set out to save! I love this series so much and I loved this book even more as I am sure these books are going from strength to strength. It is urban fantasy together with science fiction, mythology and a touch of the fairy tale to make this into such an enjoyable fantasy read! Well done Jade Kerrion for such well researched books of epic proportions.

A Grand and Thrilling Read

Kerrion's characters are unforgettable whether they be mortals, gods and goddesses, possessed by the spirit or sometimes just the power of an elemental, or a full on elemental. Their fights, adventures, predicaments, friendships, romances, grudges, and long held vengeful beliefs wander with them through countries and realms as several of them seek clues and artifacts needed to save the world from dying. A grand book/series that I I reccomend to any fantasy or mythology lover.

Cursed Flames is just a perfect third book in this series by Jade Kerrion. I have been hooked on this series since the first book and this book has not changed the fact that I want read more about Ashe and Varun! The author has a writing style that just draws you in and makes it difficult to put this book down! This is a series page turner and it has a flow to the plot that just keeps you reading on. There is always something happening but it has a natural feel to it in a way, that never feels forced. The plot is imaginative with some great twists hidden in the plot. The pace is just perfect and with something always happening you don't even realize that the book is over sooner than you know, or want it to be for that matter!

Ashe continues to grow in this third book and I am really a huge fan of our "little mermaid". I love the character development that the author continues to do on no just her but also on Varun and believe it or not, also her sidekick Jinn. There is a lot more to Jinn than meets the eye but I am sure a lot of readers are already suspecting it, question is when will the author reveal what or who is Jinn really? I for one can't wait to find out more about Jinn and it will give some more depth to this series that is for sure. The secrets ad mysteries sure seem to increase and with every secret that is solved, more seem to appear keeping you guessing and trying to figure them out BEFORE The author actually spells it out for you, since obviously it is always more fun figuring it out before you are told.

This is a fantastic series so if you are interested I would recommend to start from the beginning. They are a consecutive series so it makes more sense to read them in sequence and since it is a great series you may as well just read them all.

Jade Kerrion does it again!! This series has been a treat and the third book has kept the adventure going. Ashe and Varun have new problems as they try to find the portal, confront Ereshkigal and recover Ashe's son Zamir. Varun has new powers that he needs to learn to control. Ondine, Varun's ex-fiance, who was inhabited by Neti as a little girl, is now the guardian of the door and a fire elemental. She proves to be a problem in Ashe's plans every step of the way. To make matters worse, there is another threat out there facing them all.

I have enjoyed every book in this series so far. Make sure you have time to read this because you may find yourself up in the wee hours of morning because you just can't put the story down. I kept telling myself I'd just get to the end of the chapter. Several chapters later, I knew that I would be going to work on very little sleep, but content in knowing what happened. This is the type of series you share with others. I highly recommend all the books in this series. Start with book 1, otherwise you miss out on amazing character building and backstory. I look forward to book 4.

I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.

The third installment brings all the characters and others back into play. Varun is still human but contains the earth elemental from the ancient elf. Ashe is now stuck in her human form! Ondine is still alive and wreaking havoc. Now, Ashe and Varun are looking for a way to enter the Underworld. They want to save Ashe’s son from the Underworld Queen. Along the way, people keep mistaking Ashe for the Underworld Queen’s sister, the Goddess Inanna. When they finally discover a path there, they meet more Gods! Jinn’s secret will finally be revealed~ Ashe and three others will be trapped in the Underworld. Varun and Ondine do make it out of the Underworld but there is a huge cost! Now, a god has escaped to Earth to destroy the Tree of Life and everyone on Earth~ It will be up to Ashe and everyone they know to stop this from happening…but that is the next part of the story! I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

Jade Kerrion is one of my favorite authors, and its series like Daughter of Air that show why this is the case. Highly imaginative, really well written and with superb world-building and characters. That’s no less true with the series’ third book, Cursed Flame. Ashe and Varun are fantastic characters and what they go through is earth shattering. It’s also totally enjoyable and my only real criticism is that there’s a cliffhanger at the end ... and I’m going to go into withdrawal waiting for the next one. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is book 3 of the Daughter of Air and I absolutely loved it, Jade Kerrion is a very clever and imaginative storyteller and this series right from the start has flowed seamlessly and I love the characters Ashe and Varun go on so many adventures and in this story the queen of the Underworld is involved where she stole one of Ashe’s most treasured possessions and now Ashe and Varun are on a quest to find the hidden doorway to the Underworld. There’s some bad news guys it ends on a cliffhanger but I will be reading book 4 after this review and I can’t wait to see what happens, I love Ashe she’s no little mermaid she has the heart of a warrior and she’s determined to get back all that has been taken from her. I loved this story it’s a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

This third instalment in the Daughter of Air series continues straight after book 2, and is as full of drama, adventure, intrigue, romance, myth and magic as you could possibly wish for! I'm loving this series, and would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal/supernatural stories, especially those involving myths from other cultures. I've always loved Ancient Greek and Roman stories, but this series has brought Sumerian culture into that mixing bowl too, and I'm really glad for that. Off to read book 4 to see what happens - can't wait!!!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Every book just gets better and better, we see Ashe's and Varun's relationship change and I love how Varun balances out Ashe's harshness. Even more myths are revealed in this book along with meeting new Characters that I can't wait to see where things go with them. With both Ashe and Varun you can't help but feel the passion they have for doing what they need to and the twists that come along the way. We find out more about Innana's past as well as her sisters and Jinn ... ohhh well dang I did not see that coming!! I can't wait to read the next book because I am well and truly hooked on this series!!!

I really loved this 3rd part to this awesomely exciting story. Getting to see the interaction between Varun and Ashe and the growing connection between them and then there is everything going on its all really something different... Or not your normal day to day kinda thing. Seeing these two grow closer emotionally and also solving how to fix the death of the worlds oceans leads to some really interesting times. I love the history any mythology woven in and how it even has a bit of space aliens in it too. This series truly gets better and better with each book and I'm going to be sad when it finaly comes to an end.

Jade Kerrion always delivers a spell binding adventure.

I really enjoyed reading this book. One of the best series I've come across in the last year, every book has a different element to add. Even the most commonly known paranormal creatures are different in this series.

Jade Kerrion has taken the concept of paranormal and created something uniquely hers.

I highly recommend this book and the complete series.

Brilliant book. Thrilling read. The adventures of Ashe and Varun continue. I was a little confused with all the different names but that didn’t detract from enjoying an awesome fantasy tale. This 3rd book in the series was more intense with a lot of action . I couldn’t read it fast enough.
The author spun an intriguing story which kept me glued to literally the last page .

Thoroughly recommended.

Needless to say I’m craving for the next book.

The daughters of air series has been a great read. Every book brings a new depth to each character. Ashe and Varun are on a new journey whether she wants him there or not. Each book adds new enemies and you learn a little more about the mythical like gods, goddess, mermaids and many others. So excited to see how Cursed Heart continues this series.

Stop mixing up mythologies!

Mari and Ebla were Amurru cities, not Sumerian. Should've had them go to Uruk, Ur, Kish, Eridu, or best of all, Nippur. Asherah is not a version of Astarte, Ishtar, or Inanna. Anat would be closer to the mark.

Another fabulous story. Ashe’s most prized possession is stolen by the Underground Queen. Completely got lost in the story and waiting for the next. Definite not to be missed when released.

Historical romance, fantasy, mythology, science fiction - they are all labels that can be applied to this series. Book 3. Cursed Flames, takes from the sea and Mediterranean to the underworld by way of several countries and historical sights. Imagine being able to see the layers of history through the typical Greek and Roman and Biblical stories all the way to the Sumerian society and the origins we can only guessed at. Varun discovers a new elemental power. In the underworld the story heats up with new depths to the characters and relationships.

The author presents a well-written, well thought out story that gets better with each book.

I received an ARC of this book.
