Ahead of the Jan. 4 launch of Young Justice: Outsiders, DC Entertainment has launched a digital comic book prequel to the animated series, which happens to be the first comic book material exclusive to the service.

Set between the 2013 finale of the second season of Young Justice and the debut of Young Justice: Outsiders, the prequel comic book is written by series show runner Greg Weisman, with art by Christopher Jones. About the author

Greg Weisman (BA Stanford, MPW U.S.C.) has been a storyteller all his life. His first professional work was as an Editor for DC Comics, where he also wrote Captain Atom.

Greg worked at Walt Disney Television Animation from 1989 through 1996. In 1991, Greg created and developed a new series for Disney: GARGOYLES, becoming Supervising Producer and Supervising Story Editor of that series.

In 1998, Greg became a full-time Freelancer. He wrote the new Gargoyles and Gargoyles: Bad Guys comic books for SLG Publishing, while producing, writing, story editing and voice acting for Sony’s The Spectacular Spider-Man. He then moved over to Warner Bros., where he produced, story edited, wrote and voice acted on the new series, Young Justice, as well as writing the companion Young Justice monthly comic book for DC.

Greg was a writer and Executive Producer on the first season of Star Wars Rebels for Lucasfilm and Disney, and he’s also writing the spin-off comic Star Wars Kanan: The Last Padawan. His first novel, Rain of the Ghosts, was published in 2013; its sequel, Spirits of Ash and Foam, arrived in bookstores in 2014.

Honestly, one of my biggest critiques is that they shouldn't have split this into two issues, especially since it has so many splash pages. What's the point, even? It's a digital DC Universe exclusive; they have more freedom to format it, and are they even making more money from this?

Anyway, it's a pretty simple and comic-booky story that helps set up (without fully explaining) how Superboy and M'gann reconciled between seasons 2 and 3. Gar is the best part, both because a.) he acknowledges how messed up M'gann was for trying to brainwash him and b.) he apparently gives zero f*cks about protecting his secret identity.

If you have DC Universe (or DC Infinity or whatever it's called now) then it's worth a quick read.

Perfectly serviceable. Nothing special, unfortunately. Though, it's only a two-part story so the conclusion may well give us some insight into the new season.

This was apparently a digital only prequel to the Young Justice Outsiders TV show. It’s a comic book that is ‘screen shaped’ rather than page shaped.

”Torch Songs: Part 1” starts at the Watchtower (in space) in the Team Year Six. Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Miss Martian, Beast Boy and Superboy are Alpha Squad.

Batgirl tells them that Psimon is in the U.S. They go after him at a classic movie festival. They go in normal clothes to search for him.

M’Gann and Beast Boy watch a lecture with old Hollywood golden age movie stars. M’Gann asks about ‘Hello Megan!’ An old sitcom she loved (when it was broadcast on Mars).

Psimon find Barbara Gordon and teases her about being able to make sure only she can see him. Psimon puts M’Gann, Beast Boy and Superboy back into the sitcom the golden age star was in a long time ago. The one M’Gann based her appearance on.

I always thought this was an interesting story for M’Gann and helped make her a much more interesting character than ‘Jr. Martian Manhunter’. This story was okay.
