Singapore Fling by Maida Malby is a 2019 EOT publication.

Exotic locations, high drama, intrigue and sizzling hot romance!

Maddie is enjoying every minute of her life in Singapore, while working in a public relations firm. However, she is having trouble getting Aidan, her best friend’s future brother-in-law, out her mind. She hasn’t seen him in the couple of months since they shared a romantic interlude.

However, when Aidan shows up in Singapore, the sparks reignite, big time, spawning a super intense affair. However, a stunning revelation could throw ice cold water on the couple’s fiery passion.

Excruciating suspense, and foreign intrigue ensues, leaving Maddie and Aidan’s future hanging in the balance…

I loved the combination of sights, sounds, flavors and cultures mixed into this story. Our heroine is of mixed race, half French- half Filipino, adding a much needed shot of diversity in the romance category. The locale is vibrant and full of culture and savory cuisine that will leave you salivating!

And speaking of salivating…

Fans of military heroes and strong, take charge alpha males, are going to love Aidan. Maddie and Aidan are an unusual pair in some ways, but they have an ‘off the charts’ chemistry with each other. The independent, career driven, Maddie, is the perfect match for Aidan. The two may believe they are enjoying a ‘no strings attached’ Singapore fling, but that soon develops into something much more serious. I pulled for them, even though the obstacles the couple faces do seem insurmountable. Will true love win out?

Overall, this is a unique contemporary romance, making it a nice change of pace from the standard romantic formula. The sex scenes are hot, hot, hot, but- for me, it took little too much precedence at the beginning of the story. However, the plot does move forward onto more substantial ground, and really picks up in the second half. I was turning pages as fast as possible, realizing that I’d become very invested in this couple and their happy ever after!

Romance fans who welcome diversity, enjoy steamy romance, military heroes, and an emotional happily ever after will love this book!!

Don't tell Krista and Blake but Maddie and Aidan are my favorite characters so far. I guess because there's a lot more of me in Maddie and my husband B in Aidan. Of course, they quickly came into their own as I progressed into writing this book. They're both alphas and I love them for that.

As with Boracay Vows, Singapore Fling features plenty of mouthwatering food. My advice is to read it with a full stomach or while eating madeleines or kaya toast paired with black coffee.

Some of the best years of my life were spent in Singapore. Some of my best friends are from there. I've loved revisiting this wonderful country in writing and I hope you enjoy reading it.

A Story that Touches Your Senses – My Book Review

“You’re the only one who has the power to break my heart and put it back together again, as you just did.”

Talk about a book that can literally touch nearly all of your five senses from the foods mentioned to the sights and sounds of a life in Singapore to lovemaking - Singapore Fling is that immersive book.

Maida Malby has a way of writing that makes you savor every moment from the food, to the dragon races, to the love-making. While this is a short book, it is packed with the right amount of details in expressive conciseness. Nothing was overdone or underdone with Singapore Fling.

While this is Book 2 of the Carpe Diem Chronicles, I did not feel like I missed any part of the story being continued from Book 1 with the main characters of Aidan and Maddie. They are drawn to each due to a short affair from Book 1. Their characters become more defined along with their relationship. Along the way, Maddie finds out more about her dad that causes her to lose faith in Aidan.

What I really loved about this little wildfire of a story is that the sex scenes are a flawless sensual mix. They were not over the top in the graphic details.

“I will have the Hainanese chicken rice and cold bottled water. May I have a glass, a wedge of lemon, and a sprig of mint? No ice, please. Thanks.”

With all the food mentioned in this book, it left me hungry to try many of the foods mentioned like Hainanese chicken. Most definitely this book is one that should be savored with every word with wine – either white, rose, or red.

At the beginning of each chapter, you are introduced to an unknown word that refers to the chapter. Thank you, Maida, for introducing me to Singlish. I did not know this existed as the English-based creole spoken in Singapore. Plus, I did not know English is one of Singapore's official languages. The coolest thing by reading this book -  I have another new term to call some conceited men, “Alphahole!”

If you love romance that has a little steam with bits of intrigue then check out Singapore Fling.  It will literally touch your senses.

Maida does such a great job painting a picture with her words of the food, clothing, and locations of the world her characters inhabit. This second full-length volume in her Carpe Diem Chronicles is sexy, quick to read, and full of well-rounded, interesting characters. Family ties and female friendship add to the depth of the world and make you want more books.

I am a lucky beta reader for Maida Malby and received an advance copy of her new book, Singapore Fling, out October 21! It is another one of her Carpe Diem Chronicles, and it was wonderful! Aidan is a sexy alpha airman, assigned to the American Embassy in Singapore and tasked with…espionage!! His lady, Maddie, is half Filipina and half French, a former model and now top Public Relations consultant, also assigned to Singapore. They agree to a “fling” during their assignments, no strings attached, after a steamy weekend in Boracay (the same one during which Blake and Krista got together in Boracay Vows, Malby’s previous full-length novel). Of course, there are many twists and turns on their road to their HEA.

Malby’s strengths shine here, namely a sense of place and what can only be described as Singaporean food porn. (Where can I get some of that garlic chicken??). Her characters are also drawn well. I particularly liked Maddie. At first glance she is fairly superficial, but of course that’s a front for a woman who has never had much of anyone to trust.

There are some issues here with pacing in particular. I didn’t find those issues took away from my enjoyment of the novel.

Overall, a very good read, and I look forward to the next!

Loved it!
This book was great. Everything from the well rounded characters to the interesting foods and exciting locale drew me in as a reader. I could clearly picture, hear, and smell/taste the story. The plot was perfect and the romance had just the right amount of intrigue and crisis. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I’d definitely be willing to read more of her excellent writing!

We first met Maddie and Aidan in Boracay Vows and in Singapore Fling they decided to continue their affair which turns into a relationship. Aidan works for the American government and his job is very secretive which spills over into his private life. When the case he’s working on involves Maddie can their new found love survive? Singapore Fling is a page turner and Maida does a wonderful job describing the scenes and the food-oh my! I cannot stress how much I loved this story-I actually bought the paperback version.

I always feel a tingle when I read something written by a fellow Filipina, but Singapore Fling gave me all kinds of feels because the main character is a mestiza who is very proud of her roots. Up until this point, I have only read one other book where the main character is Filipino. To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure what Madeleine’s ethnic makeup was until several chapters into the book because I refused to read the synopsis. (That’s been my habit lately since I sometimes find that the person writing the blurbs seems to not have even read the book at all.)

I have yet to meet someone who is half French and half Filipino in person, but I can assure you that the combination is probably gorgeous beyond belief. Since Madeleine was raised in the Philippines but could speak French pretty fluently, I found myself wondering if she had a Filipino accent or some interesting combination of the two. Either way, Malby paints a strong woman that I would love to be friends with in real life. I enjoyed all of the characters in this book, but Madeleine was easily my favorite. I loved the things that came out of her mouth almost as much as her inner thoughts. The dialogue in this book is gold.

I like the vocabulary lesson that precedes each chapter. The reader gets to learn Filipino, Hokkien, Singlish, and some other dialects that escape me at the moment. Malby sometimes translates the dialogue spoken in other languages but she often paraphrases or uses context clues to convey their meaning. This works for the most part, but I could point out a few instances where I would have been lost if I had not understood the Filipino language and culture. Readers might need to look up some phrases to get the full meaning at times.

Much like Crazy Rich Asians, the food is its own character in this story and I can’t tell you how much I love it. When I wasn’t reading, I was looking up places in Houston where I might find authentic Singaporean food. Unlike Crazy Rich Asians, this book doesn’t drown you in affluence and gossip. Oh no, you will be completely submerged in molten, hot pools of lust and, if you’re like me, maybe a little concerned that someone might read over your shoulder and be a bit shocked. I’m a super visual reader, so this book had me blushing all sorts of shades. If I had to rate the spiciness of this love story on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 15.

If you’re into a more chaste romance, you might need to skim over some of the love scenes in this one. But if you don’t mind getting a bit flustered, the carnal beginnings make way to a very lovely romance. I found the central conflict to be unexpected but very exciting. It’s not your typical boy loses girl and must win girl back. I really enjoyed the intrigue and redemption.

I am curious to read the previous books in this series and definitely look forward to the next installment since it focuses on a chef character. I hope that Malby includes some recipes.

One Word: Hot

Not only is the cover of this novel stunning, but the first paragraph of this story was one of the most vivid descriptions I have ever read! I was impressed the way the author intricately intertwined the Malaysian culture throughout the novel and was pleasantly surprised with each chapter introduction featuring a word and it’s Filipino meaning. There is heat between the two main characters – successful, sexy businesswoman Maddie Duvall and hunk of man, Colonel Aidan Ryan and you are on the edge of your seat to see how their relationship will turn out. I thoroughly enjoyed the Malaysian endearments in the dialogue throughout the story and now I want to learn more about this culture!

Singapore Fling by Maida Malby is book 2 in the Carpe Diem Chronicles, but it can still be enjoyed as a standalone. The series covers the three Ryan brothers, with Aiden starring in Singapore Fling. Madeleine (Maddie) Duvall captured Aiden's attention in book 1 (Boracay Vows). They meet again in Singapore, and their relationship quickly becomes red hot. Aiden's brother Blake is marrying Maddie's best friend Krista, and Maddie and Aiden need to work together for the next year as maid of honor and best man to make the wedding a success.

The chemistry between Maddie and Aiden is positively molten, but their relationship seems to be moving into something a little more serious and a little more permanent. They just have one rule: no betrayal. But sometimes rules must be broken.

Maida Malby's characterization is intriguing, dynamic, and oh so international. Aiden is a high-ranking officer in the US Air Force and smoking hot (of course), and Maddie is half Filipina and half French and absolutely stunning. The author melds these cultures together into a delightfully entertaining power couple that appears physically perfect, but these two are not without their flaws and insecurities.

The overall story is quick and easy to follow, with lusty moments between Maddie and Aiden, and a twist in the plot that will test their budding relationship. Their interaction throughout the story is lively, steamy, and sometimes quite sweet, but can the bond these two are forging withstand the turmoil of secrets and betrayal? Check out Singapore Fling for yourself and find out. You'll enjoy the scorching sensuality between the two main characters and the many references to the local Singaporean cuisine and idioms/slang that provide a strong sense of place.

Book 2 in the Carpe Diem Chronicles is entertaining all the way through and deftly hints at the next in the series. If you want to take a virtual vacation, then you need to add Singapore Fling to your travel itinerary.

Having enjoyed book one in the Carpe Diem Chronicles, I made sure I snagged a copy of Singapore Fling recently, when an opportunity presented itself. And once it arrived in the mail, I dove in almost immediately, reveling in all the feels and feeling upset once I reached the final pages and I once again had to say goodbye to this world.
One of Malby's strengths is, of course, her gift with recreating the atmosphere of the places she sets her books, from the locations to the food. I now am desperate to make a trip to Singapore for the food alone. Word of caution: Do not read on an empty stomach!
And while Maddie and Aidan were introduced in Boracay Vows, I didn't know what to expect of either of them, except perhaps that Aidan is a bit more arrogant than Blake. But while some characters may call him "Alphahole Aidan," giving me a bit of pause initially, given the way I attach the term to some more loathsome heroes, I can't help but feel like the nickname is undeserved. He's a bit more on the brooding side, but I could truly empathize with his dedication to his work, especially when his relationship with Maddie led to a possible conflict of interest and him having to make a tough choice.
And Maddie is also a wonderful character. I love how her relationships with people are explored, delving into the fact that she didn't have a conventional family upbringing leading to her valuing the family and friends she does have and keeping them close. It forms a compelling contrast to Aidan's more conventional family and further informs the conflict between them in a wonderful way.
Once again, Malby delivers a colorful, sumptuous read, and one that leaves me waiting with baited breath for the next. I enthusiastically recommend this to fans of sexy, fun multicultural contemporary romances.

Singapore delights in a sexy package with a dash of espionage

Another steamy installment from Carpe Diem Chronicles, this time with a Singaporean flair in the form of food and locale. The recipe at the end was a nice touch. I currently live in Singapore and remember being hooked to chicken rice as well when I was still new here. Well, aside from food, we have career woman Maddie and military man Aidan and their sexy romance which may or may not be just a fling ;) Another fun read to spice up the senses and palate.

Love is a partnership, not to be dominated by one or the other.  This is the main lesson that Aidan and Maddie struggle to learn in Singapore Fling.

If you are looking for a book full of hot romance, culture, and even some intrigue, this might be the book (and series) you want to pick up for your next read.  I became immersed in this book and enjoyed every moment of the story.  It is definitely sizzling due to the food and the sex scenes but at the same time, both Aidan and Maddie are holding parts of themselves back from each other.  Is it apprehension?  Or maybe it is how they grew up or the job they hold and expectations.  There is one line that devastated me because no one should feel this way: "Apart from herself, nobody considered Maddie their number one priority."  But on the flip side, she embraced her dual heritage - Filipino and French.  It made her unique and was an asset that drew Aidan into her life.

The dialogue between Aidan and Maddie was sensual, comedic, and loving.  No, life wasn't easy for them and they both embark on paths that may not be right for their relationship, but this is a path that all relationships must endure to become something solid and lasting.  Because Aidan is military, he is used to being direct and to the point, and perhaps a bit harsh with his comments but wanting Maddie (and some input from his brothers) reshapes his rough and tough attitude to something a little softer, at least with Maddie.  Maddie realizes that she too has to bend and perhaps Aidan has her best interests in mind.

I thought the definitions at the beginning of each chapter were a nice touch to introduce words I may not know and define them before they were used in the book.   The descriptions of the island, various locations they visited, the food all added to the picture in my mind as if I was there with them.  Not all of the food sounded good to me (I personally don't like seafood) but I'm intrigued by the Hainanese chicken rice and will need to seek out this recipe and give it a try.

Some of my favorite lines:

"We've already established our chemistry; I don't want to find somebody else."

"Do you only go at one speed, Aidan?  The speed of light?

"Humility is a virtue you clearly do not have."

"You shouldn't wear perfume if you don't want anybody to smell you."

"He was coffee.  Black, no sugar, the way she preferred it: strong, hot, addictive."

Overall I enjoyed the book and give it 4 paws up.

4.5⭐️
Maddie Duvall, half-French, half-Filipina beauty, has always prided herself as independent and hard-to-get. Based in Singapore with a glamourous job, she was beguiled by American Air Force officer Aidan Ryan into agreeing with a sexy proposal. Maddie felt she has nothing to lose; after all, it was just a fling. A Singapore fling.

I love getting lost in this book and being transported to Singapore! The descriptions of Singaporean and Malay dishes are as alluring as Maddie. The book made me crave for Hainanese chicken rice.😁

I could imagine this book being made into a movie. The sultry beauty of Maddie is larger than life that I felt a drop-dead gorgeous actress might not even suffice to show how I imagined Maddie—half French, half Pinay, a bit dark and yet Caucasian. And Aidan! Another book boyfriend who you would love despite the imperfections. Truly Maddie and Aidan are made for each other. Their love and passion for each other sizzles, and what first started out as a tryst became the tender beginnings of one great love.

The book is unputdownable. I admire how it seemed like a purely romance story at first, but it is also a story about making out on your own, subsisting on friends that are family, and re-discovering one’s heritage. The book took me to places in Sg that are familiar to me, it felt like nursing a piece of me that misses like crazy that feeling of being in Sg.

I bought Singapore Fling in Amazon after falling in love at first sight with the cover, and reading good reviews about it. I’d like to thank the author @maidamalby for being thoughtful that she sent me book merchs. My review, however, is purely based from how I felt and it’s such a joy to read this, and sad that it has to end. Aidan and Maddie remain as one of the most unforgettable MCs I’ve read. The plot twist here gave me such a scare, that’s how affected I was so I knew I am already in too deep attached with the characters.😊

I’m hoping more bookworms will read books by the author. I’ve read some of her short stories and love it as well.💖

When Aidan and Maddie first meet in Boracay Vows, sparks flew. Singapore Fling is back to the heat. I wasn't sure if I would be all in on this plan. I'm usually more of a relationship leads to heat fan than heat first, relationship second. But this really worked for me. We also see that with their actions, both Aidan and Maddie had not only insta-passion, but also the beginnings of insta-love, and they just don't know it yet. I love two passionate people who learn how to make a relationship. No one is giving up any of themselves, and no one is asking it of the other, though each would do it for love. How can you not love that HEA?

Maida Malby does a great job of putting you in the place - you feel the heat, taste the food, know the sparkling blue of the water. Sexy times are on the page and match the heat between Aidan and Maddie. There's only one real subplot and it still centers Aidan and Maddie, so no distractions, which I appreciate. A few side characters are mostly there for world building, with one notable exception for said subplot, as well as Krista and Blake from Boracay Vows. That's going to be one gorgeous wedding. :)

This was not as quick of a read for me as Boracay Vows was, but I blame the holidays. Pacing is good, don't be put off by my read dates. I'm looking forward to the next in the Carpe Diem chronicles. Craig and Ange already have me intrigued.

Maida Malby has done it again. I don’t know how she does it but the imagery she creates of locations, food and people really transport the reader to Singapore.

I absolutely loved Singapore Fling. I didn’t think I would love Aidan and Maddie as much as Blake and Krista, but they are my favourite couple of the series so far.

It was clear from Global City Tryst that Aidan and Maddie needed each other by the end of the novella so it was great to see how they overcame their obstacles to finally commit to each other and not just settle for a fling, regardless of how hot their fling was!

Aidan is so sweet despite his rough exterior; it was nice to see his soft side in the book. When he called Maddie “Maddie-mine” I died instantly! And after their breakup (I won’t reveal the cause of their brief separation) he arranged for her favourite meals to be sent to her on the weekends because he knew instinctively that she would not be taking care of herself. Aidan is so thoughtful and deeply in love with Maddie, I just adore him!

Also, I really loved the brief glimpses we got of Angela and Craig, so I am super excited for Samui Heat. I expect it to be as good as Boracay Vows and Singapore Fling.

Singapore Fling is a first for me to read by this author.
From previous reviews and from the synopsis of the book the author is known for extensive details that gives the reader a more in depth idea of the Southeast Asian islands culture. However, for me, I honestly felt it was just a bit too much crammed into this book. I felt I would be reading and finally get to the point where I was getting into the story and then BAM we go off on tangent to talk about the food or the island.

Maddie and Aidan had one wild weekend affair when they were celebrating together with friends and family. But Aidan's job always has him jetting off around the world, so he never thinks to settle down. When Aidan learns they are both in Singapore for work for extended amounts of time he takes his chance to finally catch up with her and discover why he can't get this one woman off his mind. However, the more he learns about Maddie and her history the deeper he falls for her. But he soon discovers that his work and personal life are about to get tangled in a very messy way.
How's a man like Aidan, who puts his career first, suppose to choose between the woman he's falling in love with and his job?

I started this one because I had read the fist book in this series last week and was excited to take a reading journey to Singapore. Because I’ve never visited the country, I didn’t have as strong of a connection to this story as I do to the first. The location also didn’t feel as immersive as the first story. This story was really just about Aiden and Maddie.

I will say that this book started rough for me. As soon as they were reunited, Aiden immediately went feral. I rolled my eyes so often at his outlandish attempts to get her horizontal. It was exhaustive and annoying and I was tempted to just put the book down and walk away. There was zero character development or relationship development. All he wanted to do was screw and he was blatant about it.

How we got from there to an actual plot line took some creative word gymnastics, but we got there. Once the storyline with her dad came into play, I was more interested to see what would happen to him and how it would affect Maddie and Aiden.

It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I’m glad Aiden learned about emotions and I’m glad Maddie let herself feel them. Will I read the next installment? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not going to rate this book, as I am aware of my cultural gaps that could affect my understanding of the story.

It is wonderful that we have a book with a Filipino/French heroine! However, my knowledge of the country is very basic, so there was a lot of Googling for me, even with the author's brief explanations.

The story is very choppy, and in addition the author presented herself with a challenge when she has the two leads travelling and apart for most of the book. This issue was tackled pretty well, which is a sign of a talented writer.

I also faced the issue of not having read Book 1, which made some things confusing.

I am actually really glad I read this book. I am once again reminded of how US focused my world is, and being aware is so important. I think European readers will probably relate to this book much more than I did.

Maddie and Aidan had a fling when they were at Borocay. They both have ended up in Singapore having never forgotten each other. Aidan proposes a fling while he is stationed there – a relationship with an end date. The only problem with the idea is they don’t seem to be able to keep their emotions out of it. This is a great story of learning to trust again and of accepting help from your friends. Really enjoy this author.

I was reading this book for the Coastal Magic Challenge and picked it based on it’s location. I have traveled through Singapore and it is a place I would like to go back to and spend some time. At the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure how much I like it. But the the story takes a big twist that really pulled me. Overall I really enjoyed this story and can easily give it a 4.0 #CMCon24
