Marine biologist, Jayde Collins, has a love affair with the ocean. Lucky for her, because lately, swimming is the only way she can get wet without investing heavily in rechargeable batteries. While out diving, she's caught by the crew of a trawler, beaten, and dumped as shark bait. Rescued and magically healed by a hot lifeguard, she's not sure if she's dreaming, but with the erotic fantasy he offers—sex with two men—she's not sure she wants to wake up.
Trent Okeanós leads an elite group of Australian lifeguards who hide a secret; they are the last of the Mer. His law forbids sex with humans unless another Mer joins them, but when he saves Jayde, he's unprepared for the jealousy warring within him. Yet if he dares let his lust turn to love, Jayde will be bonded to him for life and he'll be stripped of immortality.
A professional counselor, Laney messes with heads by day and imaginations by night. Living in the wilds of Australia -- okay, not so much the wilds, as in a country town -- her property is inhabited by a generous mix of bitey, stingy, poisonous, and furry varieties of Australian wildlife, as evidenced by her twitter feed.
Laney writes steamy contemporary, light fantasy and edgy Outback Noir (dark thrillers with a strong romantic element). As Leonie Kelsall, she also pens rural romance for Allen & Unwin.

I was scrolling through my FB when I came across this in one of the groups I am in and I KNEW I HAD to read this. I have had a wild fascination with anything to do with mermaids or merman for as long as I can recall but haven't come across a ton of authors that write in this genre. But I found Hook and I have to say it was so much better than I imagined! Exciting, sexy, crazy interesting with phenomenal characters and a very unique plot, I was utterly captivated by this story.
Hook was something very special. It was adventurous and fascinating and utterly enchanting with one unique plot that was engaging and neat as all get out! Jayde and Trent had a undeniable chemistry and attraction that I was just HOOKED on! I fell in love with the extreme sexiness of the story and how the mer lived. This was a story that was brimming action and HOT romance and sexy times that made me pant and beg for more. A most enchanting and delightful series so far.
Hook gets a FASCINATING AND ALL AROUND SEXY FIVE SPARKLING STARS!
Jayde Collins is a Marine biologist who gets caught by the crew of a trawler then beaten and dumped as shark bait while she is out diving. She is rescued by Trent Okeanós who heals her she finds out he is the last of the Merpeople and they can not be together unless he becomes mortal. But what Surprise are they about to find out about. I enjoyed reading this book from the first to the last page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a new Author for me.
HOOK by Laney Kaye bubbles with vibrant descriptions and snappy humor. The author utilizes a fresh, seductive take on merpeople. As the first book in a series, this new Mer world is boldly and vividly established, broadening the confines of the contemporary while highlighting some very real ecological crises plaguing coral reefs today.
Jayde and Trent negotiate an action-packed, dangerous adventure while whole heartedly falling for one another. The story’s romantic elements have a saucy build with erotic culmination. With so many parts to love, it’s difficult to pick my favorite, but the stellar manner in which the heroine embraces her body and sexual mettle is certainly as refreshing as those warm Australian waters. (...the hero finds her quite refreshing as well ;-)
There’s some wonderful Aussie-isms that play into the tone of the story. As a bonus, I will never again think of Hans Christian Andersen, Bill Clinton, or corduroy pants without a few evocative giggles. I can’t wait to read the next book in The Lure of the Mer series!
As any Aussie knows, this is awkward and uncomfortable--but apparently reviewing your own book is how to kick off the review process. Yuk. Sorry folks. Please make my review disappear into obscurity by leaving your own!
Laney Kaye is amazing at mixing heat and humour. Add some sexy Mermen and an accomplished heroine determined to save the day and you've got all the makings for a wonderful romance!
This book starts with a bang and the action keeps on going until the end. Plenty of heat, a satisfying romance, and an interesting, well-thought-out world. I'm excited to read the next in this series!
Happy to have reviewed with my honest opinion it was all written characters with round wooden and sexy thank you for the opportunity to read and review the book with my own opinion

I love a good Mer story and this one more than delivered. The author had me hooked...literally...from the first page. The story was engaging and the sex hot! Highly recommend Ed and definitely looking forward to book 2!
I enjoyed the story. I just wished it was longer and could have covered so much more in the plot. Felt a bit choppy and rushed. I did like the characters, just didn't have enough substance.
