Book Title: My Friendship with Yoga
Author: Revathi Raj Iyer
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book definitely strikes a chord of interest as it instantly develops an emotion between the book and the reader.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is a beautifully crafted digital photograph of a woman sitting in a relaxing yet powerful yoga pose with a serene background.

My review about the book:
Historically yoga was more than just a method of physical exercise as it now being propagated; it was a way of life. In general, everyone has dedicated themselves to a lifestyle and culture that surpassed meditation techniques and included healthy eating habits, bathing habits, social interaction, and work. But the basic importance of the existence of life and its unison with soul is often possible only through the yoga illustrations in everyone's life.

Every yoga asana (pose) has a different name and includes standing postures, seated twists, backbends, arm balances, inversions and core holds. The downward facing dog for example, is in itself said to calm the brain, energise the body, improve digestion, strengthen arms and legs and be therapeutic for high blood pressure. Whilst these benefits come as a given with most postures, the practise of yoga as a whole provides many more benefits than one might think.

In this book, Author Mrs.Revathi has created a perfect bridge between the theoretical approach and illustrative approach of various Yoga asanas and the importance of Unison of body, mind, and soul. In the book, she has very well brought before to her readers that Yoga has both preventative and therapeutic benefits. It has been shown to offer both physical and mental benefits to the body and the mind.

With great illustration of every asana or pose, the physical benefits of yoga which include: the improvement of flexibility and muscle joint mobility; strengthening, toning, and building healthy muscles; correcting posture; strengthening the spine; also eases back pain; improves muscular-skeletal conditions such as bad knees, tight shoulders, and neck,  increases stamina; creates balance and grace; stimulates the glands of the endocrine system; improves digestion and elimination; increases circulation; improves heart conditions; improves breathing disorders; boosts immune response; decreases cholesterol and blood sugar levels; and encourages weight loss and many many more advantages. All the listed results are beautifully explained in every page of the book with great dedication, positivity, and extremely laudable social responsibility.

As an ardent reader, I have been reading many books on Yoga and practicing the same for many years. I have indulged myself in great works of BKS Iyengar, Patanjali, Jaggi Vasudev, and K.Pattabhi Jois. I often had taken my father's help in understanding certain aspects. But, after going through this book, ' My Friendship with Yoga ', I can definitely say this is one of the best comprehensive works of various types of Yoga Practices we have in our tradition and one of the best books till date.

A really helpful book

I just finished reading this cool book called "My Friendship with Yoga" by Revathi Raj Iyer. It's not just about all the good vibes of yoga, it also talks about how practical it can be. It starts in Fiji Islands, goes to New Zealand, and ends up in India. Trust me, it's pretty inspiring!

The book is about Revathi's journey with yoga, from when she first got interested to when she really got into it. We get to see how she changes along the way. The book also talks about how yoga can affect people and communities in general. Plus, there are some yoga poses in the book that you can give a go, and they're explained really well with pictures.

My friendship with Yoga really breaks down all the confusing stuff about yoga. It connects the dots between the ideas and actually doing it, making old wisdom actually useful in today's world. It might not be super academic, but it's got a good mix of philosophy, psychology, and helpful advice. I think it's a great read for anyone interested in yoga or looking for a new take on its advantages.

Revathi Raj Iyer's 'My Friendship with Yoga' is a welcoming companion for both seasoned yoga practitioners and newcomers alike. Rather than a dry manual, it's more of a heartfelt journey filled with a blend of facts, personal insights, and engaging stories. One thing that really stood out to me is how it goes beyond just defining yoga and delving into its various types. The author takes the time to provide a practical chart for daily yoga practice, breaking down each step in an easy-to-follow manner.

What truly drew me to this book was its incorporation of verses from the Bhagavad Gita. By including these verses, the book invites readers to cultivate a receptive, calm, and open mindset, fostering a deep desire for learning and personal growth.

It's like having a window into the wisdom of the ages, guiding us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and our spiritual journey through the practice of yoga.

Overall, Through a blend of personal anecdotes, practical tips, and insightful reflections, the book not only elucidates the nuances of yoga practice but also instills a sense of reverence for the ancient wisdom

Author Says "Do not ever force yourself into a posture. Do not try to be perfect. Keep trying until the asana (posture) grows on you. This is path of yoga that teaches you to be resilient and patient. Patience, practice and perseverance alone can unlock this ageless tradition of yoga"

Starting from the cover it’s beautiful and perfect according to the plot. The title of the book “My Friendship with Yoga” is nostalgic and captivating.

Yoga means union. Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about who you are. This book is divided into three parts. The first part start with the story of Revathi and what yoga is and her foray into yoga and it also explains about body, concentration, bandhas, meditation along with that author shares some interesting stories from history. The Second Part of the book is about Asana (Postures). Asanas are explained with illustrations. Step by step process of doing asana and benefits are explained in well. While reading the second part one can feel someone is guiding them the steps one by one and help them with some tricks to achieve them. The third part of the book is about daily yoga practice with detailed and clear instructions on things to do on each day of the week to make yoga an integral part of your daily routine. The words were simple and the language is lucid which eased the reading.

I won’t say that reading this book entirely changes your life but I’m sure your approach towards life and many other will surely get influenced. This book en lights us on subconscious mind and it’s power in various forms. Yoga has been my part of my life when I was very young and I have been practicing on and off but it was not that regular. Yoga is more than the physical movement; yoga shapes the mind as well as the biceps. I have found that the more I practice yoga and meditation, the more I become intimately acquainted with my mind. I am more aware of my thoughts. In the time that I dedicate for my yoga practice, I always make a clear intention to set aside any anticipation of what is to come and any worry of what has gone, giving my mind a break. I am no saint but with these short positive affirmations that I feed my mind and soul with each time I step onto the mat I feel lighter.

Your body can do it. It’s your mind you need to convince

Highly recommended to all.. This is a must read for everyone who are planning to start their yoga regime.

I personally felt that this book reached me at the right time. I was trying to establish a workout regimen that suited my body and planned to incorporate yoga, but I didn't know where to start. This book came as a guiding light.

In this book, the author beautifully shared her personal journey with yoga, revealing how it became her faithful companion through life's ups and downs. With warmth and honesty, she showed how yoga went beyond mere physical exercise and how it transformed her perspective on life, fostering a deeper connection with herself and others.

She explained the origins of yoga, its transformative power, and how it could be incorporated into our daily lives. I was astonished to see the benefits of the asanas from a different perspective. In India, we practiced yoga in school and later in life, but eventually forgot about it and started hitting the gym. The simple way of doing asanas in daily life could work wonders for our bodies.

She explained each asana and its benefits in detail, and in the end, she also incorporated a weekly regimen to follow to maintain yoga practice. I really loved the idea. I personally thank the author for adding this. As a beginner like me, it helped to avoid countless confusions about where to start and how to end in a better manner.

Whether you are new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, the author's insights and anecdotes inspire you to embrace yoga as more than just a practice but as a profound way of living with mindfulness and joy.

I just finished reading My Friendship with Yoga by Revathi Raj Iyer and I am in love with this book. I am an ardent lover of yoga who has been regularly practicing yoga for many years now. I am a proud 'yogini' and I have practiced all forms of yoga- Hatha yoga, hot yoga, power yoga, yoga for weight loss and many many more. So when I was approached to review this book, I couldn't help myself.

The book describes the incredible yoga journey of the author which is absolutely relatable to every yoga beginner. You won't be left with any questions because each and every concept has been meticulously explained.

My most favourite chapter of the book is where the importance of meditation and the art of letting go has been focused upon. In today's stressful times where one gets easily overwhelmed by life's hurdles and challenges, it is really important to feel your emotions and then let them go. Yoga is a powerful tool to keep your mind healthy and at peace.

Each and every asana/posture alongwith it's benefits has been described in detail which is absolutely easy to understand and practice.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who is a yoga enthusiast or who is looking to start his yoga journey. Once you start practicing yoga, you will fall in love with it just like me. To be on the mat is the most beautiful place to be and I choose to dwell in that peace and serenity, today and everyday!

Revathi Raj Iyer's 'My Friendship with Yoga' is not only about physical yoga poses but It also delves into the spiritual journey of discovering the divine essence within ourselves and striving to become better individuals.

While it does cover yoga asanas, it goes far beyond, offering insights into how yoga can guide us on a path of inner exploration and personal growth.

Through this book, readers are encouraged to start a journey of self-discovery, tapping into their inner spirituality and embracing practices that lead to becoming more compassionate, mindful, and fulfilled human beings.

What I found particularly commendable is how the author emphasizes that yoga is indeed suitable for everyone. However, she also offers a word of caution, advising those with specific health issues to consult their physician before attempting any of the yoga asanas or postures.

This thoughtful approach ensures that readers can engage with the practice safely, respecting individual health considerations while still benefiting from the transformative power of yoga.
