Links to the death of a convicted paedophile in prison are explored, was he going to spill the beans on well-connected associates? Or are law enforcement merely dealing with a crazed gunman with a personal vendetta?

But will kicking the hornet’s nest have the results his chief superintendent demands? Or will Blizzard himself become the victim of the killer’s wrath?

John Dean is a freelance journalist who has runs his own business and draws heavily on his years as a crime reporter for newspapers and magazines to create his novels.
He is a member of the Crime Writers’ Association and cites Sherlock Holmes as his all-time favorite detective. He lives in the South West of Scotland.
I enjoy the DCI Blizzard tales. He comes across as the way you would want a copper to be. Bends the rules as and when he needs to. Thus ensuring that the criminals are caught and the innocent are protected. Nathaniel Cartwright has been a thorn in Blizzards side and now he has a chance to get even. As ever DCI Blizzard and Dave Colley, his DS are heavly involved in tracking down the killer of a prison inmate along with the shooting of an undercover cop. A lot of criminal low life and their aims and desires come to the fore in this enjoyable tale
This is the second Blizzard book I've read, and I've enjoyed them both. Good story, well plotted and told. The lead character and the others have some good points of difference from rivals in the market of 'loose cannon' police detective. I'd have given five stars were it not for the number of times I had to flick back and forward to work out who the author was referring to when saying, "the inspector's phone rang" or similar. When two inspectors, one a Chief Inspector, it's not at all obvious which the phone belongs to.
And another blindingly cracking story from this author. A prison death followed by an undercover policeman being shot involves Blizzard and Colley in another complex case. It appears that John could well be a target as well. But why and who is behind it all? The private lives of Blizzard and Colley have truly developed as they are now both fathers. This gives them a slightly different outlook on life but keeps the humour alive.
When a prisoner, George Killick, is killed on a secure wing and an undercover policeman is shot in his home, the police need to know whether there is a connection between the two. DCI Blizzard and his team investigate. But is this the last of the killings, and who has organised the murders. Another well-written enjoyable crime story in this series
DCI Blizzard shows he can handle the pressure when someone begins to attack members of the force. He's not without enemies but can he take down the perpetrator before panic sets in? Another top notch murder mystery by John Dean.
All of John Dean’s books are good but I love DCI Blizzard! The books are carefully plotted and the characters are well written. I hope there are many more books in the series. I highly recommend this book!
Writing good crime thrillers an art. Believable characters. A relevant credible storyline. And the Detective John Blizzard series has all that and more. Hooked from the first page...corny but so true. Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited!
I enjoyed the books very much. I tend to get a little confused by all the characters involved. I will recommend these books and will continue to read Dean's novels.
