Rate this book
Web and reality television celebrity Tila Tequila, the "Madonna of MySpace" ( Time ) bares her secrets in this provocative and playful guide to love, relationships, sex, fame, and being the life of the party -- just in time to spice things up this holiday season. The ways to celebrity are myriad, but in just two years, Tila Tequila has quite possibly become THE symbol of stardom in today's digital age. With upwards of three million MySpace pals and thanks to MTV's A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila , the twenty-six-year-old sexy siren has become nothing less than a cultural icon. Tila's taboo-bending lack of inhibition has made her a trailblazer for the times, and there's no signs of slowing down this feisty four-foot-eleven wild child whose combination of sex appeal and accessibility has made her popularity unparalleled. Hooking Up with Tila Tequila takes an exclusive and entertaining look beyond the virtual pin-up -- past the mischievous glint in her eye and sultry curve of her hip -- to the real-life Tila. In her own outrageously candid words, she tackles a variety of subjects from making it big to getting what you want in bed -- and out of it! Also included are real questions from her millions of fans, and Tila's unique brand of truthful advice, as she says, "Tequila-style." Filled with stunning never-before-seen photographs from Tila's private collection, Hooking Up with Tila Tequila delivers the scoop on everything her fans want to know -- and reveals the true story of how a fearless and determined Vietnamese ex-model used the Internet to earn the recognition that most people only dream about.

Wouldn't touch this one with a 2500 foot pole.

She is a garbage person, and not for the reasons some might think I think.

I don't care about her career as a porn star; there is absolutely no slut-shaming or moral judgment here. As a feminist, I firmly believe that women have the right to do whatever they desire with their bodies, up to and including sex work.

That said, as a feminist/black/disabled/ relatively decent/reasonably intelligent human being, I have a problem with the stances this woman takes and refuse to plunk down money or spend time on this dreck.

I read this book at the library while waiting in line for a computer. It happened to be sitting on a shelf next to me and I stupidly picked it up. The fact that Tila Tequila even had a "book" published is shocking. This book should be rated negative 1 star.

I read everything in about two days, and I found the book actually pretty good (I felt the expletives were/are part of her style, and not a gimmick / I got the second last copy at a sale / the copies ran out fast).

The print quality of the photos is great! The design of the interior pages is very aesthetically pleasing, and the content is not bimbotic, if one looks at the message and person behind it (despite some of the dramatic and quite-public antics of Tila Tequila).

By the way, the whole video/audio clips syncing onto MySpace (which the musicians on MySpace rely on quite heavily, to enable their fans/visitors to listen to clips of their music with relative ease), was actually started by Ms. Tequila. While I personally can't stand using MySpace (very, very annoying!), ^that is a sure sign of sheer cleverness, and not bimboticness.

An impulse hardcover purchase which turned out to be a pleasant, satisfying read (with Ms. Tequila's "non-BS" straight from the hip style).

If you've ever visited Tila Tequila's MySpace page or seen her show on TV, you already know what to expect when cracking this book. A bit like a (adult) modeling portfolio and a bit like a teen girl's dream diary, Tila shows us her world in a way only she can... whether you want to see it, though, is up to you.

This book turned out to be rather fabulous. I read it for part of a library program I was doing, and it turns out Tila is a sassy, hilarious lady, and a good writer (though I suspect at least part of it was written by someone else.)

New life goal: be more like her.

Let me start this review out by saying that I really wanted to like this book. The reviews were fair, it had a lot of good things going for it...until I started reading it.

SO here is Tila Tequila's guide to love, fame, happiness, success, and being the life of the party. All cool things, if told right. My main problem with this book is it is the most repetitive book I've ever read. Basically every chapter follows the same format, 1) I'm hot 2) I have a lot of sex and 3) People hate me. That's the book. That's chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3...etc. By the end of this book I felt like I had read the same book ten different times.

What was supposed to be a book about her life and her experiences turns out to be the most cookie cutter cardboard bubblegum book I've ever read. I'm not hating on TIla, I'm sure she had a really tough life and went through some really hard and good things....it's just, if you are looking at learning those things, you will not from this book.

The one stand out chapter would be towards the end of the book when she answers questions from her fans. But even that is flawed. The questions i.e. "My boyfriend is cheating on me what do I do?" get answers to the tune of "You could break up with him, or you could forgive him"...wow that many options?

The ever present swearing in the book comes across as ineffective and silly. Don't get me wrong, I do not mind a book with profanity throughout, but this one reads like a high school bathroom wall with the "F" word just used to sound edgy but coming across sounding silly.

The last two chapters at least have a bit of substance in them, although not much. Again it just comes across as a bubble gum cookie cutter book --- and that is sad because I really feel like she does have a good story and a lot to say, this though just was not it.

Before her super-weird public statements in the last decade - she put down what she considered her handbook for life and fulfillment. While, it lacks moral fiber - it is mostly rational and accurate - from the perspective of a young, single, eager young woman with a plan that actually works - at least that's if you are willing to take her seriously. I got this book used and I didn't retain it very long - because a young female visitor asked to borrow it. I bought another copy - same result. On the third buy - I kept it hidden away in my bedroom closet.

My point is - Ms. Tila got it as right here - as she ever did - and for whatever reason - drifted into insanity of some kind.

I think she was kind of destined to go insane - this is what uncompromising extremes can do to people over time.

In any case - I confess - this is a good read. It is not titillation - it is just damn good self-expression.

Disagree? Sure, and if had never taken the time to read it - with an open mind - I might have assumed that it was sensationalist smut - but it isn't. It is just rational, clear and unambiguous prose with a difference.😋

This book is one part memoir and one part advice. Tila shares her advice on topics such as fame, relationships, and staying true to yourself based on her personal experience.

The nice thing about this book is that it is a short, easy read. It strikes me as a book for adults that is styled like a children’s book. That’s to say, LOTS of pictures.

Tila has a very distinct voice as a writer, and I found it easy to get absorbed into the book. However, she is very blunt and crass, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

I will admit, there is some solid advice in there. Mostly your standard “be true to yourself” and “believe in yourself” stuff., but it’s often packaged in a sort of tough love kind of way. Strangely, this aggressive approach to self-confidence is provides some nice respite from the normal style of self-help books (not that this is in any way a self-help book).
