Steve and crew have fought their way halfway across the country. They've faced Zombies, invading Koreans and other desperate survivors. This book continues the journey and details their mission to wreak havoc on the invaders and get the vengeance they so badly crave. As the saying goes though, when you set-out to get revenge dig two graves...
Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)
Two of my favorite houses growing up!
I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!
I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!
This is the fourth book of the series. A person has to read the previous books before starting this book to understand the team's emotions. This book is not filled with the ugly naked truths. The previous books are.
I give this book 3 stars because there were a couple of parts that were far fetched for a fiction book. Spoiler as I explain with one example. One of the characters is Ginny who is 13 years old. Her grandpa was a veteran and taught her everything. I respect that.
Ginny manages to take down a cocky marine. The book explains it as because this team has been killing zombies for an extended time and our military has not nor has our military been trained in this. It further explain that Ginny was able due to this to her upbringing by her grandfather and what she endured during the zombie apocalypse. To me, there is no way a marine can be taken down by a thirteen-year-old. This is why I stop reading the book for a while and it also why I did not give the book four stars.
I give this book 3 stars for the story is good but not as good as the previous books. I am not trying to be a female dog.
Our military is ready if there was a zombie apocalypse:
I never left a review on this one! Here we are a couple of years after the series was released and I get to think back now to write this up. The entire series was a joy to write. The main characters took on a life of their own. A lot of the time I was just typing fast to keep up with them. Or rather, Steve was cramping up his fingers trying to record everything in a notepad file on his i-Phone!
I've loved reading the feedback from readers who've enjoyed the characters and the story line. There's few things as awesome to me as that feeling that you've somehow been able to open up your mind and dump the story you are seeing in it onto paper. Hoping it comes out in a way others can follow along and get it too. Getting others to feel that passion, that fear, that love and all the other complicated emotions the characters experience. Putting my own head in that space and trying to capture what that would feel like then come up with the words to describe it.
I just love the hell out of it honestly. It feels so good when everything connects. I can't draw, paint, sing, dance or garden worth a so I feel blessed to have found something I can do creatively that people can relate to. Something that takes them out of their own reality and puts them in my imagination for a little bit of time at least!
I'm now wrapping up my second Apocalyptic Series (Zombies!) and getting ready to embark on yet another. I appreciate so much all of you that continue on this journey with me and look forward to your feedback when we enter yet another reality together!
Great series all four of my heroes still alive and KICKING A--! I am almost through book 5 can't wait to get to 6 last book. I really like these books. They are full of action and non stop skin of you teeth escapes. As much as I want to see what happens in the end of book 6 I will hate to be done with this series.
Love the books ! The characters are fabulous. However, spelling and grammar are awful- please use spell check! You keep misusing she and her, there and their, etc
Steve and his crew are becoming quite the fighting unit. The addition of Daisy the dog, brings back their human side. There is lots of action and humor. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to the next adventure! If you haven't read the series get started!
I think this was my favorite one yet. I also appreciated the smaller number of typos and homonym mistakes. I gave book 4 a 5 because I experienced the "can't wait to turn the page" feeling a few times while reading it.
Excellent, well really good. RSM needs a few more beta readers to iron out the typos. Storyline moved at a great pace, a little less pain in this one, which was appreciated, lol. Onwards and upwards, book 5 already downloaded in Kindle Unlimited.
The storytelling is very entertaining and action packed as Steve and crew travel west to seek vengeance. They run into a an American military group who have been sent to stop the Koreans from moving east.
I absolutely love this author & am proceeding to devour everything he has written. It's been a long time since I was actually creeped out reading a zombie book & he has managed to bring that awesomeness back! Can't wait for the next book!
Again, fast moving with very few dull moments. I have red #3 a d now #4. I think I need to read something of a slightly different genes. But I will be back again. I would suggest this author.
I like the sense of humor in all the books. Also the little hints of women's liv. It's great how they work together. I have trouble stopping to go to sleep.
I read/watch and listen to a lot of post apocalyptic stories. Not all zombie related but a fair share are. I didn’t know what to expect as I’m not a fan on humor for honors sake but Steve won me over instantly.
At first the AI generated narration didn’t bother me. Then it irked me when it would say words correctly and then screw them up. Turn it dawned on me I’ve fallen for narrators so much so I’ve bought books from authors I’ve never read simply because I love the narrator and that my support/tolerance/mere acceptance of this book would be in the long term jeopardizing their professions.
With all that said. Books are amazing. AI narration does well but wish it had been a human. I enjoyed enough to be willing to give author a look at other book but not if read by AI. One of the best apocalyptic zombie could be true yet not since Feed!
This story is innovative and entertaining. The vein of humour running through it is perfectly placed and sometimes surprising. The "hero" of the story is realistically klutzy, and endearingly naive. He navigates through the zombie apocalypse in a hit or miss way that seems all too relatable. This one I couldn't stop reading!
Disappointed in this story line. So many issues that come up when dealing with no showers and lots of filth for weeks at a time. Other issues not mentioned when eating MRE'S and canned food for long periods of time. So much missed.
I’m still liking the series and the characters, but there are getting to be a lot of errors in the grammar and writing in general. I would highly recommend a better editor.
Can't wait to start the next one! Written so it's relatable and the action doesn't slow down. Just found this series 5 days ago and I'm already on to book number 5
I've read easily hundreds of zombie apocalypse books and can say that R S Merritt has a writing skill that keeps you sucked in from page one. The style of writing I found as addictive as Stephen King. The perfect amount of gore and the non stop fight for survival by the seat of your pants by characters so well written you can't help but love/hate them. This series is a must read for any true zombie book lover.
