About the author

Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Audible credit 62 hours 52 min. Narrated by Stephen Fry (A+)

This special edition includes all of novels written by Arthur Conan Doyle including A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four, The Hound of the Baskersville, The Valley of Fear and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, and all of his short stories. Stephen is an avid fan and historian of books about the great detective and also the films starring him. Fry wrote nine introductions to books or collections that are included. He is also a masterful storyteller and switches easelessly between high, crisp British accent of Sherlock Holmes and noticeable difference of Dr. Watson, which is carried throughout almost 63 hours. Fry is outstanding in other accents German, Scottish, Irish, and American, male and female. I got hooked on Sherlock Holmes in junior high school, and I've been a junkie ever since. I started this book in January and listened to all but the last twenty hours iby March. I really recommend.Yalley of Fear, which was one of the last books written. 4.5 stars

I love Conan Doyle, but after listening to the same audio-book for months, got a bit bored of it.
This Audible collection is, however, definitely remarkable.

So much Sherlock. This took a long time to finish because it was a super long audiobook. The fact that it did contain so many individual stories and books made it easy to have stopping points when I wanted to listen to something else or wasn't going to be able to listen for a while. Classic and wonderful. I love the original version of Sherlock. The differences in personality when compared to modern adaptations on tv or in movies stands out. As for the narration, Stephen Fry is magical. That's the only way to explain how he was so amazing at every part of this. I'd listen to him read just about anything, I think.

*Listened to audiobook* 4.5 ⭐

50ish hours of all the Sherlock Holmes stories, big and small. Narrated by Stephen Fry. Whew boy.
Okay, so most were great, and I can't believe it's taken me so long to read them. I mean Sherlock Holmes basically started mysteries. He's huge. And most singular. Singular. Singular. Singular. 😂 That's my only complaint really.. Doyle used the word singular to describe almost every damn case. Think it was a favorite word.

55 hours is a really whole lot of Sherlock Holmes ;-p, as you can tell by the extended distance from begin to end. Every time enjoy started drifting towards annoy (I overload on English easily), I took a break to listen another book.

Well read and commented, and if you're a fan, you'll love this. In truth, if it had been an unknown writer, it would have received three stars and I would likely never have finished it, but it gets four because I remember the Sherlock Holmes volume in Classics To Grow On was read and reread.

So I give an extra star with a nod to the wisdom of my youth.

If you have one credit on Audible and you don't know how to spend it, this audiobook is a must.

Almost 63 hours, with an astonishing performance by Stephen Fry... probably the best ratio quality-price on the platform.

It took me forever to finish this 62-hours recording of Sherlock Holmes. Mostly, that's because I'd listen to a few minutes in bed before going to sleep. It's a very good book for that – not interesting enough to keep me awake and wanting to listen to more, and with stories interchangeable enough so that if I missed a big of one, it didn't seem like much of a loss. Stephen Fry was a good narrator for the most part, but sometimes at the end of a story, his voice lowered so much I couldn't hear what he was saying – and sometimes that was the most important part. This Audible version had flaws, especially with The Sign of Four. What happened there?

I've read some Arthur Conan Doyle before and found it mildly entertaining, but this recording just proved to me that I'm not really a Sherlock Holmes fan.

Great narratiion by Stephen fry and a comprehensive collection of the Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes stories. About 80 hours of audio. While I have read most of these previously having everything there and in publication order along with introductions by Stephen Fry who is clearly a huge fan himself was excellent.

This audio book is fantastic! Steven Fry is excellent, and the material is always interesting. However, it is long! The individual stories probably average about an hour each, making it excellent for long commutes, and there are a lot of stories! Way more than I realized. Doyle wrote many Sherlock tales, and they're all here. Happy listening!
