The book is indeed rather academic, I managed to understand his academic jargon simply because I have been studying languages for so long and have used so many different books.

However you can use a dictionary to look-up the technical words he uses and make some notes of your own, so it is not a serious problem in my opinion, there are not that many technical words in the book anyway as the words are "recycled".

If you can find a way around this "problem" then this book will teach you all the grammar you need in practicality, so it is well worth the effort to work through the book.
The difficulty with Hungarian grammar is not the amount of grammatical "parts", which are not that many, but the way in which you put these "parts" together, and this book does a good job at explaining both the "parts" and how to connect them.

I'm very pleased with the book, I find it comprehensive and efficient.

I found the book too academic.
First chapters are just dry verbs' conjugation, without any examples of use provided. therefore, for a self-learner it is very difficult to keep interest and understand all nuances of use.
The book was saved by the listings of useful expressions and most important words put in the end.

I've not read this cover to cover, but it's a really useful book that I have used, and still refer to a lot.
It's very technical, but it's still the best Hungarian grammar book I have found so far.
