I really enjoyed this book because it was not just photographs, but stories behind the photographs. The stories were fascinating as were the photography lessons throughout. I recommend to anyone interested in photography of music and to fans of Ed Sheeran. The footnotes by his father John, were also amazing and insightful (John knows art very, very well.)
In 2008 Christie Goodwin was making a change. She had been working as an editorial photographer for wire agencies. But her real passion was for music photography. She began to compile a portfolio and had been contacting various music management companies to obtain a shoot.
In February she was contacted by Crown Music with an offer to do a photo shoot with a new talent they had signed. His name was Ed Sheeran and he was seventeen years old. They needed photos to use for publicity for the singer.
From the very first photo shoot, Christie saw something special in Ed Sheeran . Christie and Ed were both beginning their careers and never thought that their relationship would last more than eighteen years with no end in sight! Over this period of time, Christie has taken more than 2,000 photos of Ed Sheeran. Several people suggested she compile some of them into a book. She received extensive help and encouragement from John Sheeran, Ed’s dad, who has worked for over 35 years as an art curator, exhibition organizer, and lecturer.
Together they chose the photos used in this wonderfully organized and interesting book. Christie writes not only about the various venues and concerts where the photos were taken, but she also incorporates a wealth of information about the techniques and business of music photography. Many of the photos are accompanied by captions written by Christie and/or John.
Christie’s collaboration with Ed over the years documents the rise of the careers of both people - Christie’s immense talent as a photographer and Ed’s immense talent as a singer, songwriter, and musician. As Christie states in her book, there is a “story told here, through my camera…..including images and stories I’m sharing for the first time…….this is an up-close and intimate view of Ed Sheeran”.
Anyone interested in the career of Ed Sheeran, or anyone with an interest in music photography would enjoy this visually appealing book!
Ed Sheeran: Memories We Made is a gorgeous hardback book that is full of images and stories that are just now being shared along with captions by Ed's father, John. This book is full of lovely memorable photos that share a behind the scenes look at one of today's famous artist and the long and somewhat hard journey it took to get to the top. Ed Sheeran: Memories We Made would make a lovely gift for any fan or a nice gift for yourself.
Nelituju! A hezky mě to zahřálo u srdíčka.
If you're looking for a biography of the artist or some kind of tabloid tell-all, this book is not for you. The text of the book itself is much more about the photographer and the art of photography itself, with the photos focused on Ed and many of them captioned by his father, John. I appreciated it more as a work of art than as a text, but I think that was the point and I did learn some new things about the photography business and the music industry in general. I definitely do not regret picking this up and I would say it's worth it for anyone who is either interested in entertainment photography, or who just wants to see a really beautifully assembled collection of photos of Ed Sheeran.
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this book weeks after I heard Ed Sheeran live. I just went on his Mathematics Tour last 9th of March here in the Philippines. I knew about this book bcs one of the members in our private Sheerio group posted that there was a clearance sale and I didn’t even hesitated; I went straight from school and travelled to another city just to acquire this! I’ve been a fan since I was 9 and now i’m about to be 21. This book makes me so happy i’ll give it a definitely 5 stars!! ❤️
For any fan this is a must-have! A visual delight, the book is a marvellous photographic journey charting Ed's incredible journey as he made it to the top. A real treat!
Amazing 🤩 I loved every photograph, and the stories and moments behind them. It was incredible reading it. This was the best book I’ve read about an artist beginning his career and following his dreams. It was so inspiring and the photos are absolutely incredible. I’m so happy I finally read it. Ed Sheeran is one of my absolute fave artists, it really captures his love for music. Christie Goodwin really captured his greatest moments and her story of meeting Ed again and again is priceless.
This book was a bit of me as it covers two of my favourite things Ed Sheeran and photography. Christie Goodwin explains how music photography works and the book is full of incredible shots which chart Ed’s rise from singing in pubs to selling out Wembley Stadium. What makes this book extra special is John Sheeran’s (Ed’s father) involvement, he assisted Christie in choosing which shots should be included and provides his own comments on many of them.
Wow this book was very well written and had beautiful pictures of ed I love this book and definitely will read it again thank you Christie & John this was amazing!
Words are hard to express the wonderful emotions that are captured by Christie Goodwin's photographs. She tells the story of Ed's rise to fame. You feel the energy that Ed's concerts emote, and the joy Ed brings to his fans.
I really enjoyed this book. I went into thinking ,oh it would just be cool to know about my favorite artist, but while reading I realized it took on more of an inspirational message. I really enjoyed the message of passion being a driving force to success.
I enjoyed the stories behind the photographs (from both John Sheeran and Christie Goodwin), as well as Christie's insights as a photographer in the music photography business.
I thought it was alright but not really what I was looking for personally, a lot of pictures from Ed Sheeran’s early days to his performances in 2018. Occasionally there is an insight into those early days which is mainly the area I wanted to read about, as it was an impulse buy I didn’t really check.
If you like Ed Sheeran and very good musician photography, this is the book for you.
