Abnormal: Uncovered

Rate this book
They had been hiding for years, hiding who they were and what they could do, hiding in plain sight so that they would never have to go back. Back to the lab, back to that hell. After years of being experimented on they had managed to escape, go out into the world to live life as best they could and it had worked...until now. They are once again being hunted by those who had turned them into what they are today. The only way to stay ahead of their pursuers is to use the very abilities that were forced on them at such a young age, but even that may not be enough.

Abnormal tells the story of six abnormal people fighting to live a normal life after escaping their abductors (who turned them into what they are by enhancing their abilities/ giving them super human abilities).

It was a fast read and it felt ... incomplete and underdeveloped. It calls for at least another book since the story is clearly not finished, but the book being under 150 pages, I wonder why we didn't get all of the story with maybe 100 more pages.

At first it was confusing because the story begins with 4 or 5 voices, mixing past memories and present observations; some typos (mostly "they're, their, there / you're , your"), kept the confusion going till the end of the book.

The sci fi or fantasy angle is not developed enough for us to grasp all the beauty the summary was promising: the scientific miracle that enabled doctors to give them abilities, the purpose of the experiences, the AAC... It focuses , through flashbacks, on painful memories in the lab.

The romance angle is not developed enough for us to "feel the love". Unnecessary obstacles, lack of communication... I know it's YA but I don't particularly like it when characters are 21 and acting as if they were 13.

This book family tree ? If The Pretender (the tv show) and any romance middle school/ YA book had a baby, it would be Abnormal.

Wow.

Was a quick read but flowed nicely. I liked every character and enjoyed the relationships between them. The last few chapters had me on edge. Can't for the next one!
