Marcus might look like an angel, but he's always been a villain. So when he's tasked with infiltrating the Vampire rebellion he doesn't expect it to be complicated. But his plans might take on a new path as he grows closer to a mortal, who can't--or won't--die.
After Gena is brutally murdered and mysteriously resurrected, she sets out to discover the truth about her supernatural background. But when she crosses paths with the sexy and vengeful Marcus, she realizes that there is more to her past than she ever realized.
With time running out, Gena and Marcus search for answers to her past, while going head-to-head with their enemies. Will it end the same way it began--with Gena's death?
Melody Raven is a Michigan girl through and through. She is overly attached to her rescue pit bull, Rigby, and spends her time not writing chasing all sorts of worldly pleasures.
She travels all over the world, devours entertainment in any form, from books to movies to podcasts, and collects amazing experiences like a hoarder on a TV show.
Melody also writes romantic suspense and contemporary romance under the name Mallory Crowe. Her life's motto is "if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing".
Eh. Took me forever to finish this. The characters were boring and unrealistic. Also not a fan of the reborn gf thing who is supposedly the love of his life and yet he hardly thinks about her, especially while bragging about how many women he's seduced or used over the years since the first time she died. And I hated his reaction to him finding out she was reborn. Almost seemed like he didn't like it. Also, it was super weird when the angels just randomly popped in to explain things and then leave. It was such a cop out.
This book is the second in the Evil Rising series, but it can be read as a standalone. We met Marcus in the first one, and although he seemed a jerk at first, we could see that, deep down, he had strong values and a story that made him both honorable and molded him to be the arrogant jerk he was.
Now, we learn even more about him, and we understand him better, and it's hard not to like him and root for him to finally have some happiness.
We also met Gena, and she was a big surprise. Like, really big! When I started the book, I didn't exactly what to expect, but I knew for sure I wasn't expecting that reality! And I dont remember ever reading something like that. It was new to me, and I really enjoyed!
The same goes for Ryan.
There was heat and suspense, there were times when I got surprised and maybe a little confused, but it was really good and so different from what I normally read. It was such a good addition!
I'm excited for the story to go on and reveal itself, because I can feel there is more to it!
You do not need to read the first one to understand this book. It centers around two new characters but does mention characters from the first book. This story centers around Marcus and Gena. Marcus is an arrogant vampire who has been banished from his home to infiltrate the rebels who are trying to kill Aleksander, the vampire king. Gena is a human who ends up being killed by a man she works with, but she doesn't die. She goes to find the sister of her bf to see if she can help find out why she didn't die. She meets Marcus at a club and they are immediately drawn to one another. Marcus ends up helping Gena find out what she really is. Gens awakens feelings in Marcus he thought were long gone. Will they be able to get past everything and be together and keep each other safe?
This Bad Boy Is So Hot!!🔥💘🔥💘🔥 4.5 Stars 🌟 (Read using Kindle Unlimited)
I thought this was a fabulous follow up to book #1. Marcus is the mean spirited Vampire on the Council that turned Anna when he came across her dying when the treasonous Vampire trying to kill the King thrust a sword through her & left her to die!!😳
Marcus has been cast out of the King's Court, undercover, to try & get to the bottom of exactly who & how many of their supposed allies are a part of this new rebellion. Marcus is in New York & hoping to be approached to join them!
Gena is a Nurse, her ambition is to go on & become a Dr. She was approached the night before after work, by the Hospitals Administrator, Ryan. He really creeped her out, telling her they are meant to be together, she shines white while everyone else is grey & they're going to be married - he'd barely looked at her before that conversation, in the previous years!!😕
After getting home from walking her dog, Lady, the following evening, Ryan is waiting for her at her front door!!😱 Once he barges past her front door, things rapidly deteriorate!! Gena grabs a few things, her dog & flees to New York!!🗽
Eventually Marcus & Gena cross paths under odd circumstances. He decides to help her with a safe place to stay, money & eventually a new identity!! 💙They both feel an extremely strong pull towards each other, it transcends the experiences & time they've shared but the steam is hot & it's clear feelings are becoming involved!!😍🔥🔥
They're soon fighting for his life, King & their way of life!!!🔥👑💀💘
A gripping & really surprising read!! 👍 I adored this couple & where the Author took this storyline, So Clever!💜 I'd say this is an unmissable 4.5 Star sexy vampire tale but it has much more hidden inside 😉🙏

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN is the second instalment in Melody Raven’s (aka Mallory Crowe) contemporary, adult EVIL RISING paranormal, romance series. This is ER nurse Gena Dodd, and vampire Marcus Grey’s story line. THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Marcus was first introduced in book one-The Lost Vampire Prince.
NOTE: THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN was originally released as DARING FIRE-Bad Boys of the Underworld #2
Told from dual third person perspectives (Gena and Marcus) follows the building relationship and romance between ER nurse Gena Dodd, and vampire Marcus Grey. Gena Dodd had no idea she wasn’t quite human, but the second successful attempt on her life, found our heroine struggling with the who and how of her rise from the dead. Hoping to discover the truth Gena goes in search of a psychic only to come face to face with a coven of vampires, but one vampire in particular takes a liking to our story line heroine. Enter Marcus Grey, a vampire believed to be a traitor to King Aleksander but a vampire whose working to protect the throne. What ensues is the search for the truth to Gena’s heritage and ability to come back from the dead, and the struggle to protect the King from a band of rebels hoping to take over the world.
THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN is a story of betrayal, secrets, the battle for power, and the struggle for control. Gena will discover the extent and circumstance of her immortality but an immortality that comes with a hidden truth. Marcus, long considered a traitor by his own kind, a vampire who once loved and lost, but has found love once again.
The relationship between Marcus and Gena is one of immediate attraction but there is something about Gena that isn’t quite human. Very few people can ‘see’ the aura surrounding the supernatural world, and it is Gena’s aura that attracts targets her for death by someone she knows. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Gena’s co-workers Ryan Stone, Joy, and her sister Hope; Anael and Tabbris; Gena’s human mother Jill; a large assortment of vampires including King Aleksander, Vlad, and security specialist Marie IronHeart Lacombe.
THE VAMPIRE VILLAIN is an imaginative tale of betrayal and revenge. The premise is imaginative and inviting; the romance is spirited; the characters are energetic and impassioned.
Poor Gena is thrust into a world she had no idea even existed when she is unexpectedly killed. Usually that would be the end of it, but she finds herself waking up next to her dead body with a new body that seems relatively normal, other than old scars now gone, and with the added bonus of being able to heal rapidly. When she finds that vampires and other creatures that go bump in the night do actually exist, she struggles to find how she fits in. Marcus, a very old vampire, doesn't know what Gena is, but he does know that he feels drawn to her and takes up the mantle to protect her. However, with so many uncertainties, can either even survive long enough to make it to the next day? I love everything about this series! I can't wait to read book 3! Don't delay and read this series!
The Vampire Villain hooked me from page one thanks to the great writing and original storyline. (Gena's resurrection is totally freakin' awesome!) Her search for answers as to what happened to her leads her to Marcus who is undercover and trying to infiltrate the Vampire rebellion. The plot twists and reveals plus the growing romance between Gena and Marcus kept me turning the pages. I really could not put it down! I enjoyed the first book of the series but I loved this one and wasn't nearly ready for it to end. Can't wait to read book three.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
I volunteered to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and to submit an honest review.
Marcus is sent to infiltrate the camp of those who want to kill Aleksander, their present king.
Gena was a registered nurse. She loved her job; but bot appreciate her stalker, Ryan, who was the loser son of the hospital's CEO. Ryan forces his way into Gena's home, insisting that he is going to marry her, When she tries to get away from him, he kills her.
Gena does not stay dead. She meets Marcus and the adventure starts.
This review is vague but I hope it has encouraged you to read The Vampire Villain to see for yourself what happens. Dynamite read by Melody Raven.
The second book in the this series takes a surpring turn in the vampire world. It's a new concept to me and I found myself totally engrossed.
Marcus is a pure vampire sent to infiltrate a band of rebels who wants to disrupt their world as they know it. All appears to be going to plan until he meets Gena. Gena is an enigma and when the big revelation is made, it comes as a complete surprise!
Marcus and Gena are great main characters and the plot is well constructed. There are twists and turns that make for a page turner. Murder, mystery, suspense, intrigue,, traitors and romance are a good combination in this captivating tale.
This is The Vampire Villain, book 2 of the Evil Rising series written by Melody Raven. This book will drag you into all of the exciting twists and turns while watching romance bloom. Ms Raven will have you cheering for vampires before all is said and done. Just be sure to pay attention, you don’t want to miss which side of the battle everyone is actually on. I can’t wait to read the next exciting installment of this series!
Yes, liked it even more than the series opener! It was imaginative fantasy at its best - a bit fairy tale, a bit stretched, a bit romance, a bit unexpected and a lot of action.
Yes, nurses and doctors choosing to save people as a calling ARE half angels, so that was clever, and the idea of angels opened the subject of demons for the next book... yes, clever!
Not your usual vampire paranormal story...of course there is some blood and biting going on
Gena is really hard to describe without a HUGE spoiler but I liked her more and more as the story went on. Marcus I already liked...even though he was almost unlike-able. The story and it's twists are very unusual but, again, spoilers...
I like the way Ms Raven creators her characters and their world. She has built a community of vampires and other immortals that make sense.
The story line is good, the interaction between immortals and mortals is interesting, and the heat level is high. Marcus and Gena have a great story and it is a fantastic addition to the series.
This book was spectacular. This story had so many twists Mallory Crowe kept us guessing to the end. Marcus and Gena are great well written characters. I highly recommend this book and this series. Received this ARC for free for a honest review.
It took me a little longer then normal to get into this book but once I did I wasn't able to put it down. The characters find them selfies together without even realizing it. This is a was a great edition to the first book in the series.
Loved this story. Lots of action, mystery and just good reading. Hard to put the story down once I started it. Great book worth reading. Good continuation from the previous book. Marcus and Gena are a good team and keep the story moving with lots of exciting events to read about.
I liked this book more than the first in the series. It was fun and creative but dramatic. I can’t wait to read about the demon/fallen angel combo next, though I am not thrilled they are completely unmentioned characters.
I really enjoyed this story. This story had an interesting plot with pretty good character development. I recommend this story to people who like multiple supernaturals engaging in mischief.
This is a vampire and supernatural tale, not what I consider a romance. If you're looking for a mystical story with a woman who won't die this will work. If you're looking for a romance with kinky sex, then not so much.
This is the second book in the Evil Rising series. There were a lot of twists and turns in Gena and Marcus's story. It was full of suspense all set in a paranormal setting.
Loved it! The characters were so amazing and well thought out not to mention Hot! The plot continues to be exciting and has so many twists and turns. Try it!
