Covocational Church Planting: Aligning Your Marketplace Calling & the Mission of God

Rate this book
Over the past several years there has been an increasing interest in church planting. As a result of declining attendance and the closing of many existing churches, every major denomination is focusing more resources toward starting new congregations. In the midst of this proliferation of church planting, one of the most significant trends is the starting of new churches by covocational leaders.

A covocational church planter is one whose primary vocation is in the marketplace, but at the same time they feel lead to start a church. A "covo" planter is one who knows God has called them to be a teacher, or a mechanic, a web designer, or a doctor and they desire to weave that calling into the plan to plant a church. They realize those two callings are no isolated form one another, but instead are actually interlinked and equal.

In Covocational Church Planting, Brad provides not only a new way to think about vocation, but also a fresh vision for church planting as a covocational leader.

The idea of covocational church planting was intriguing, but this book was fairly disappointing. It's just DMM/CPM methodologies re-packaged for church planting in North America. So much of this book was focused on a pragmatic approach to "what will work" in the coming years. I'm still eager to read a compelling case for covocational ministry, but I don't think this is it.

Didn’t speak too directly about practical implications of covocational church planting as much as how you go about planting a missional church. Incredibly helpful for many of the ways we’re thinking about reaching our neighborhood with some friends from church.

This one took me a little minute.
I was supposed to read it back in October for my class 😆🙈but it was a tough read for me.
Very academic. The second half was better than the first, in my opinion. Brisco is very passionate about church planting and the gospel! If you are interested in church planting, then I’d highly recommend.

Even though I'm not a church planter, this was a really encouraging book to me. It helped me examine my own thoughts about faith and church. I think this is definitely worth reading for all Christians who are dissatisfied with the state of the church today.
