Weird is the word that comes to mind when I “finished “ this book. Weird because from the beginning it was full speed ahead! No build up of characters or the story. No connection made, sex,weird dialogue between kane and Leslie & at the last minute boom let’s throw in a mystery, vandalism and stalking! Seriously the last last all of that happens! Cliffhanger and bc of previous noted issues, I probably won’t find our what all the made up drama and mediocre sex with zero character development turns out to be.

This book is not anything like fifty shades of grey. I finished it because it had a good ideal going. I also liked the characters. I was hoped it was going to pick up but didn't. It was a jumbled up story line and felt like things where just random thrown in. This book might be great for someone else. I am going to try the next book. There is hope it gets better.

This is the first instalment of Kane and Leslie's story.
The story isn't a bad one at all.
Kane is hot, tall, long haired and covered in tattoos.
Leslie is kind hearted; to animals...
Yep!!! Works for me.

Leslie has a dream. She's had it for as long as she can remember.
She owns a dog sanctuary, but the shop next door is up for sale.
Duncan, the owner of the shop next door has said she can buy it for her doggy adoption centre.
She is paying extra on the repayments terms of her sanctuary to pay for the other building.

Her life is going well. She and her adopted dog, Flamingo, couldn't wish for anything more.

Then HE shows up and buys the place next door, crushing Leslie's dreams in one foul swoop.
She let's him know, in no uncertain terms, that he is not wanted here; the crusher of dreams.

If only he weren't so ridiculously hot!!!
If only he didn't make her body yearn for him!!!

One night, the sexual tension goes from nought to one hundred in a matter of seconds and they fulfill all their dirty desires for each other.

What they didn't know, was that someone else was watching them; someone who wasnt just getting a kinky thrill.

Leslie drops the photos and they land on the dog shelter floor, the words 'you're next' on a piece of paper, floating down to join them.

I haven't spoilt anything. I'm not sharing anyone's past, or why the photos were taken.

We meet Leslie...animal lover who runs an animal shelter with dreams of buying the store front next door to expand.
But her dreams are crushed when Kane buys it "out from under" her to open a tattoo shop.
The chemistry and sexual tension between these two is THICK!
They drive each other crazy--and that's what Kane calls her until she introduces herself near the end.
There's another guy in the picture--Chase--who is the shelters on call vet, and he's a little creepy and possessive of Leslie, even though there's nothing on her end. They go to dinner and Kane warns her that he's trouble, but she doesn't listen. Well on the date she picks up on his creepiness and excuses herself to the ladies room, and Kane comes in behind her...hello chemistry!
She makes up an excuse to end the date early and go home.
They act on their chemistry and hells bells hotness!
Book one ends with photos of the two of them together in the throngs of passion are sent to the shelter...and Kane's shop was vandalized...

It took a couple of chapters for me to get into this story, but once I was in that was it. I couldn't put the book down until I had read every single word that has been written.
There are surprises through out the story, some you may see coming while others you won't. Some surprises are large, while the others are small. But each and everyone holds equal importance, with regards to making the book the fantastic read that it is.
Each and every single emotion that the characters go through can be felt, I actually went through the emotions along with the characters, there were times that I wanted to smack the main male and female characters. But they both redeemed themselves.

I received this story for signing up for the author’s newsletter. I liked how descriptive the story was. I’ve never been to California, but I could easily see Leslie’s animal shelter, the space around it, her home, and Kane’s shop. Even the insta-love/hate shared between Leslie and Kane was vivid. You could see these two in your head. I only wish the story hadn’t ended on an eerie cliffhanger, but when I knew what I was signing up for when I realized that this was not a standalone. At some point, I’ll get the rest of the stories because I have lots of time to read and because I want to find out what happens. I want them to get a happy ending.

IF you put the entire series into ONE book — rather than 5 separate books — then this overall story is ok…. I hate this “trend” of one story spread over numerous books… especially when it’s only one storyline and really only one set of characters.
The biggest problem for me though was that I listened to this “series” on audible…. This audio drove me insane!! I tried different speeds and it did not help! There needs to be a difference in scenes — heck at least take a breath — there needs to be a difference in voices vs thoughts — there needs to be a difference in characters — which definitely can be done by a single narrator. I really hate to be critical of some doing their job, but this just ruined this series for me and it was PAINFUL for me to get through!

I read this as part of the 1-5 boxset I got at a reduced price a while back.

I'll be honest. I wasn't a fan of the style. It was choppy and we never really got to know the characters. Insta-lust - which I'm not a fan of, and the sex scenes were more erotica than romance. I won't be reading the other parts of these twos' story.
