Just when you're about to give up...the tide can turn when you least expect it.
Luke Cannon was trapped between a rock and a hard place while the incoming tide threatened to drown him. With every year that passed, his hope of meeting his very basic human need for intimacy grew fainter and fainter.
Until he met her.
She was everything his wife was not. Giving. Caring. Independent. Sexy. Fun! All things he had convinced himself he didn't deserve.
But love? He could never be worthy of that. He would settle for a touch. A kiss. Hell, a hug would be better than nothing.
He never expected the tide could actually turn. And neither did she.
There’s a secret club in Ocean City, Maryland, where swingers from all over the mid-Atlantic converge every weekend to frolic and play in its many themed rooms. Welcome to the Factory, where in the midst of all the fun, there’s always a romance blossoming, sometimes where you least expect it.

Phoebe Alexander writes #sexpositive #bodypositive erotic romance featuring compelling plots intertwined with passionate, fiery encounters. She believes that real, relatable characters can have even steamier sex than billionaires, rock stars, and the young and lithe-bodied. She also advocates for ethical non-monogamy through her writing.
Phoebe lives on the East Coast with her husband, sons, and multiple felines. When she's not writing, she works as an editor and consultant for indie authors. She also volunteers her time running a 3000-member indie author support group. Free time is her single greatest fantasy, and if she happens to have a moment she spends it at the beach, traveling, shopping or...wait, who are we kidding? That's about all she ever gets a chance to do.
My heart broke many times over for Luke. Everything his wife does is just awful, and I wanted to slap her in the face! Phoebe Alexander tackled a difficult subject with this one, and as always, only she can make me think hard about my convictions and make me realize I am wrong and circumstances matter. I wasn’t expecting the suspenseful aspect of the book, either. It added a nice touch. The book was super hot (as always). LOVED it!! And I really loved Luke. Can I hug him?
HOLY HIGH TIDES! I don't know where to begin with this review. This book brought me through a gamut of emotions. I've always heard that if a character brings a strong emotion to your readers (good or bad), you've mastered the craft of writing. If that's true, then Phoebe has NAILED her craft. I love The Factory crew to begin with, so I figured I would embrace Luke and his story as well. Boy, did I ever. His patience, his raw sexuality, his honor and loyalty...they're just a few of the reasons why Luke has quickly become my favorite character. The character that tapped my emotions the most, however, was Barbara. I found myself angry and enraged over how she treated Luke. I've known people like her in real life and Phoebe portrayed her perfectly. I stayed up til almost dawn because I had to know what happened next and if justice would be served in the end. Each book in this series reels me in more and more than the last. Turning the Tide is easily my favorite of the series. I was hooked from the first page.
Turning the Tide by Phoebe Alexander a five-star read that will turn you. This is the fifth novel in the Eastern Swingers series, but they can all be read as stand-alone, they truly can as I have read most of them out of sequence. Luke is a very deep character and one that will at times make you question what you believe but then also feel a deep sympathy for him. Connie was a great woman, she makes reading her story easy. This is a complex love story, and as with true love, it never goes smoothly, just creates more passion and drama. The question is will it create a happy ending? That’s something I can’t tell you as you need to read this amazing story to find out.
It takes a talented writer to make a reader feel for the guy cheating on his wife, but this author does just that! Luke doesn't have a typical marriage, about as far from normal as one can get. Not only that, but he's constantly abused by his wife on a daily basis. He's accepted this life, until he meets a woman who changes who he thinks about everything.
I loved the mystery mixed in with the romance, which I found more in this book than in the others in the series. The ending was absolutely perfect!
Phoebe takes a touchy subject of infidelity and turns it into a winner. The reader has empathy for Luke. You ache for him and cheer with him. Turning the tide also shows seasoned lovers can not only have sexual relations but enjoy them.
They say you never know what is going on behind closed doors. That is what is happening in Luke’s life. On the outside you would think he has the perfect life. Great doctor, beautiful home and most of all supportive husband to a wife of many years. But on the inside he is miserable, his wife has been deceiving him for years and he is too kind to even notice what is happening right in front of him. Luke is invited to visit his friend Cap’s club. Luke is reluctant to go, but when his wife leaves for the weekend he decides he will give it a chance. This is when he meets Connie and his life begins to change, she is a breath of fresh air and helps him open his eyes to really see what is happening right under his nose. He learns he has a strong side and can stand up for himself and that he deserves better than his current situation at home.
Be sure to grab this book if you want to read great story about a husband being taken advantage of while remaining faithful, supportive and understanding to his wife. Thank You Phoebe Alexander for such a great read.

Turning the Tide is the fifth book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. Once again Ms. Alexander has really set the bar quite high with this wonderful book. I love her books and she has never failed to deliver an enticing read, and this story is no exception. As I have said before, I have come to expect a lot from her, which probably isn’t very fair on my part, but I blame her for writing stories that just get better and better the farther into the series we go, eclipsing the other books with each new instalment. Just when I think that it won’t be possible to match the previous book, she ups the ante and not only matches, but exceeds them, as well as all my expectations, and blows me away. From the beautiful cover, to the exceptional writing, the original storyline, and wonderful characters, Ms. Alexander ticks all the boxes, and then some. There is so much going on in the book, from heartache, loneliness, passion, erotica, drama, some suspense, and emotion . This story could be read as a standalone, without feeling like you are missing anything. But having said that, the other books are well worth the read, as they really are great stories on their own- but they also introduce other recurring characters. So, having all that information and the backstories would increase your reading pleasure, of this book, and the series as a whole. Luke Cannon has been ‘stuck’ in a hopeless, soul crushing situation. He craves connection and intimacy- which he hasn’t had for a very long time. Dealing with his ‘life’ is becoming more and more depressing. So, when his good friend persuades him to try the ‘club’, he decides to go, and things take an interesting turn. Connie Stewart is Casey Fontaine’s sister (Casey is the co-owner and Matriarch of the ‘club’, The Factory. Connie’s a nurse, who had been caring for her sister during her battle with cancer. She’s been burned before, so she has some trust issues when it comes to men and relationships. Connie isn’t part of the ‘swinging’ lifestyle, but soon finds herself spending time at The Factory. She meets Luke and they have an instant connection and chemistry. But what happens when secrets are revealed? And with the amount of baggage Luke has, does their blossoming relationship even stand a chance? What happens when a third party causes problems? This story is well worth your time to find out all the intriguing details for yourself…. Ms. Alexander has a real talent for getting her readers to invest in her stories- easily swaying you to either love or hate a character. Her characters are quite complex, fully realised individuals with their own quirks and flaws- which made them all the more realistic, relatable, and believable. I can’t wait for the next book!
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) By Phoebe Alexander
Turning the Tide is book five in the Eastern Shore Swingers series by Phoebe Alexander. Each of the books in this series can be read as a standalone quite easily. First up please note that this book may contain a trigger effect for some people as it does discuss emotional and verbal abuse so read with care. Secondly this book does have cheating involved. What we need to remember the cheating husband is not real so stress less, and no I do not condone cheating in the real world. This book is most probably my favourite purely because it was good to read a story on older people and by older, I mean people around my age lol. So anyway, Turning the Tide is focussed on Luke and Connie. I have had to reword this review three times. In the end I must admit I ended up reading a few reviews by other people, I must say I was shocked to read some thought that Luke was a weak. I do question that as do we think a woman is weak in the same situation?
I really like Luke’s character, he has remained faithful to an abusive wife, done everything for her and for what? All the while this poor man is depressed and feels like he is stuck where he is. Enter Cap (from book 1), convinces Luke to co me to his club for a look.
Connie moved to Ocean City to be closer to her sister Casey who had a battle with breast cancer. Connie to me was an awesome one therefore I enjoyed reading about her. Connie is by no means in to the lifestyle of the club. She does however like to hang out at the club and is made to feel part of the crew.
When Connie and Luke meet the connection between them is instant, it is something that has Luke thinking how much happier he could be. But yes of course there is a but, Barbara is causing trouble so could this be too much for Luke and Connie to handle? Will Connie and Luke get their HEA, you will need to read the book and find out. Lastly, I have listed the books in this series in case you want them.
Book 1 Fisher of Men - Cap and Leah's Story Book 2 The Catch - Calvin and Paisley's Story Book 3 Siren Call - Jessie and Sirena's Story Book 4 Sailors Knot - Casey, Gabriel and Joshua's Story Book 5 Turning the Tide - Luke and Connie's Story
Phoebe Alexander has once again left me in awe and quite frankly at a loss for the correct words to fully express just how much this book was amazing. I won’t be sitting her and divulging storylines or details and reeling you in with that, for all of those goodies I highly, highly recommend you go grab this novel! (Grab the whole series and start with the first book, Fisher of Men, if you haven’t for the ultimate reading enjoyment!) Instead I am going to tell you all about how much this book has helped me become more well me, as much of the Eastern Shore Swingers series has.
Yeah, yeah so don’t read the book/series if you are sketchy or nervous with alternate lifestyles and the activities that often accompany grown adults in the bedroom. Alexander has never not warned ahead. Don’t let it stop you if you are just a tad unsure but curious though, because these books are the perfect way to peak that curiosity. I truly enjoy and appreciate that so much realism and effort on the part of Phoebe Alexander goes into each and every one of these novels. This is raw, real, emotional, and unique. This is human life, and so often we have books, magazines, television, movies etc. that airbrush and fine-tune everything so we really don’t ever have all the real life stories to fully relate to. YOU WILL NEVER FIND THAT WITH A PHOEBE ALEXANDER NOVEL. Frankly, I love that. Turning the Tide was no different. The topic of infidelity is never a subject that is easy to take on, let alone one that can be written so darn objectively with such prose as this. A hundred kudos for this! I completely understood so much, connected to these characters and felt it so much that I could probably blabber for days about all of them and the reasons why. Instead, I will part with you my favorite tagline and a great one really to sum up this book, so fitting, and hope that you too enjoy Turning the Tide as much as I did! Thank you for another fantastic read Phoebe Alexander!!
“Just when you’re about to give up… The tide can turn when you least expect it.”
I’ve struck gold, reading my first book by Phoebe Alexander! I loved Turning the Tide. First I was a bit apprehensive, because I heard something about cheating. After a few chapters I completely forgot what my hang-ups were, because I got to know Luke. And believe me, he’s not a wimp, or a jerk or whatever names you might call him. I loved him, especially when I heard how his wife treated him. It isn’t a simple love-story, Turning the Tide is more complicated than that. It’s a love-story, but also a detective, a seasoned romance in which some more or less “taboos” are addressed. I loved the tenderness and hot alpha ability of Luke and Connie’s feistiness – all in all, I really can recommend this book and now I want to read all the other books of this series too. I can’t wait to read them all! This is what it’s all about: There’s a secret club in Ocean City, Maryland, where swingers from all over the mid-Atlantic converge every weekend to frolic and play in its many themed rooms. Welcome to the Factory, where in the midst of all the fun, there’s always a romance blossoming, sometimes where you least expect it. One of the visitors is Luke. Luke Cannon was trapped between a rock and a hard place while the incoming tide threatened to drown him. With every year that passed, his hope of meeting his very basic human need for intimacy grew fainter and fainter. Until he met her, Connie - She was everything his wife was not. Giving. Caring. Independent. Sexy. Fun! All things he had convinced himself he didn't deserve. But love? He could never be worthy of that. He would settle for a touch. A kiss. Hell, a hug would be better than nothing. He never expected the tide could actually turn. And neither did she.

Book 3: Siren Call (Jessie and Sirena's Story)
Book 4: Sailors Knot (Casey, Gabriel and Joshua's Story)
Book 5: Turning the Tide (Luke and Connie's Story)
Turning The Tide is the 5th book in the awesome Eastern Shore Swingers series by Phoebe Alexander. I have loved this series so far but have to say that Turning The Tide has been. By far, my favourite book in this series. Having been ‘the woman scorned’ I wouldn’t have thought that I’d have sympathy for a man cheating on his wife and wanting to give him a massive high for doing so but this book brought out so many emotions from me. Highly respected ENT doctor, Luke Cannon has not had sex with his wife for 10 years. Not only no sex, but no touching, kissing or cuddling. Nothing. Nada. To top it off his wife Barbara is a complete grade A bitch treating him like a doormat. Her excuse – sex is to painful and she is disabled. So it’s no wonder when Luke’s patient, Cap Sheldon invites him to the swingers club he owns, Luke decides, after much persuasion to go along and see what it’s all about. His life is about to change in a major way when he meets the lovely Connie on his first visit to the club. To his horror, Luke then discovers that Connie is the new nurse his partner Jim has hired. There is a no fraternization policy at their business. That however is the least of Luke’s worries. Barbara is behaving strangely and Luke discovers major discrepancies in his finances. What follows on is a fantastic story filled with so much mystery and suspense. In a true Eastern Shore Swingers book, it’s also filled with some very HOT sex scenes. This book is a definite page turner. I was glued to it and just couldn’t put it down. I have to say that I adored the character of Luke and Connie and even though Luke is a married man, I was rooting for him to cheat on his absolute bitch of a wife. She doesn’t deserve and amazing man like Luke. This series has brought me much enjoyment in the last year and I’m so glad to read in the notes at the end of the book that the author plans to add more books to this series. They will definitely be getting added to my TBR list and I’d recommend this series to others. It’s a must read.
Luke is stuck in an impossible situation. He hasn't been intimate with his wife in 10 years and what's more, she's verbally abusive. She treats him as little more than a servant. But he's always made excuses for her, that it was because she was in so much pain from a mysterious illness. He's been depressed for a long time and feels caught in a hopeless situation. But after much persuading, his good friend Cap has convinced him to come down to the club, and things might just start looking up for Luke.
Connie has moved to Ocean City to be closer to her sister Casey, who just came through a huge battle with breast cancer. While Connie isn't a part of the lifestyle, she likes to hang out at the club and is part of the crew. When she meets Luke there is an instant connection, but he comes with more baggage than most men and it might be more hassle than it's worth. Especially because Luke's wife Barbara is causing trouble.
So it's safe to say here that I cannot stand Luke's wife Barbara, and I think Phoebe did an excellent job creating such an awful person. I really liked Luke and I think he put up with so much and not just from his wife, but his children. He a strong man with a heart of gold and he didn't take any of his decisions lightly. When we first met Connie in previous books I instantly liked her as she's kind, caring, and funny. She's perfect for Luke and I like that they're learning this lifestyle together.
The Eastern Shore Swingers series has such amazing and eclectic characters with unique personalities. I love that they all make appearances in each other's books and of course, that they can be read as standalones and together. Each time we meet someone new, I know I'm going to love that character and Luke makes a perfect new addition. He's an easy character to empathize with, to cheer on and hope for the best. His scenes with Connie range from emotional to scorching to heartwarming and back again. An excellent read!
Book Review: Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers book 5) Author: Phoebe Alexander FIVE STARS Phoebe Alexander has done it yet again. Taken real life situations and writing a book about it and just making you fall in love with the characters. Dr. Luke Cannon is in a loveless marriage and he has been celibate for the last 10 years. His wife has some mysterious medical condition that makes it where she experiences horrible pain when/if she has sex. It takes a special author to make you absolutely hate a character. But Phoebe has done that in this book. I wanted to just crawl into the screen of my kindle and just throat punch a certain character... not telling you. I want to see if you can figure it out. BUT OMG let me tell you, I so desperately wanted to hurt this woman. Connie Stewart is the sister of Casey Fontaine, the co-owner of The Factory, and a nurse. Divorced and not wholly trusting in men, Connie finds herself as a guest at The Factory. The Factory, being a swingers club, is full of delightful people and experiences. Can Connie and Luke make this work? Can Connie forgive Luke for not telling her he was married and the circumstances? Just a disclaimer, there is cheating (if you can call it that) and scenes of BDSM in this book. If you are opposed to these you will not enjoy this book. This book brings into question, fidelity and what you should do in the case of a loveless marriage when one party refuses to participate or even try to satisfy the sexual desires/urges of the other party, and then threatens your very lively-hood and reputation if you even think about divorce or trying to find some satisfaction elsewhere. Phoebe Alexander is an amazing writer and I thoroughly enjoy everything she writes. The Eastern Shore Swingers series is no exception to this. I have loved seeing her characters come to life and bring their every wish to reality. Kelli Harper
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) by Phoebe Alexander
5++++++ Stars
Good Lord this author has me so confused..Pretty sure this is my favorite of the series then I start thinking about the others and think, no maybe that one was, no im pretty sure its this one...The bottom line is this series simply ROCKS!!
I can't put into words what it is that draws me to every book in this series, especially when the lifestyles that are portrayed throughout are just not something I understand or am I interested in. I think it's the characters this author writes about, I get so emotionally invested in them and no matter what I fall in love and that is all due to the talent of this author.
This storyline was awesome, it tackled a type of abuse I have never read before, and also had never thought about but this felt so real as per normal when reading anything by this author. Luke is now one of my favorites in this series, my heart broke for him and I couldn't help but just want to hug him!
I'm just not going into too much of the storyline, I went in blind as I do most of her books now because if it has her name on it, it's just a given I'll read it. Trust me when I say this was an awesome story and addition to this series and I also couldn't help but jump for joy at having another character back at The Factory after being afraid she was not going to return, and thats all Im going to say about that LOL
Read these books, I promise no matter what genre you do or don't read they are worth every minute spent, yes they could all be read as standalones I suppose but Im so so glad I didn't do that, having all the history of all these names that keep popping up throughout each book makes it that much more awesome!
Loved it and hoping for much more from these people and this author :)
I do believe this was my favorite Eastern Shore Swingers story yet. Phoebe Alexander has a way of writing that truly brings you INTO the story. You can see pieces of yourself in the characters. She never demeans anyone. She is truly #sexpositive and #bodypositive. She has characters from all walks of life in every shape, size, color, age and nationality. These are people who protect those they care about even if they've just met you. Don't be ruled by societal rules of how you should or should not act or what you should or should not enjoy in life. These are the values she imparts with ever book she writes. This one is no different. You may hear a specific storyline that may not be your cup of tea but I say give it a chance-you won't be sorry. This is truly real life and sometimes, real life is off kilter and doesn't go exactly the way you thought it would or that others think it should. Be open and be real. This is what Luke and Connie taught me through this story. It is filled with steamy moments of course but it is filled with learning to trust-not only yourself but your gut. This story also has plenty of suspense that has you turning page after page chasing that final moment...that moment when the person you dislike most in the story finally gets theirs...and let's face it, there are a few despicable characters in here. Luke could have been me in another life -- maybe not all the suspense part...but other parts of his life. I could go on and on of course but you need to read this and immerse yourself in the world that Phoebe has created!
As always Phoebe delivers a fantastic story that is unique, thought provoking and sexy. One of the things I love most about this author is that she never gives us cookie cutter characters. She develops characters that could be us or our friends. The characters have flaws, maybe says the wrong thing by accident and have realistic fears that I think are really relatable.
Casey’s sister Connie decided to move to Ocean City after she helped Casey battle cancer in CA. Divorced and guarded when it come to men she is ready to try new things. Luke has known Cap for years as his nose, ears and throat doctor. Luke’s marriage which personally I do not really consider it a marriage is toxic. We see abuse through the eyes of a man. It’s an important perspective.
Cap invites Luke to The Factory the same night that Casey brings Connie. I wonder if The Factory should have a side business of match making. Sparks fly between these two and not just at The Factory. I enjoyed the dynamics and the realistic hesitation they both had in getting to involved. Both also discovering an enjoyment in aspects of BDSM. The book does not go heavy on the BDSM. It’s a introduction of two people learning a little bit about it and what works for them.
We also get some suspense and mystery. Utilizing the talents and skills of their new friends Luke and Connie discover what Barbra Luke’s wife and his business partner are up to. Phoebe writes some of my favorite strong female characters and Connie is one fierce lady. I really loved the ending I don’t want to give it away but I did say “That-a girl”.
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) By Phoebe Alexander 5 stars
And again another FANTASTIC 5 star read from this author! Every time I read a new book by Ms Alexander I think this one can’t be as good as the last one I read and I love that I am always wrong! Every book of this author’s that I have read I have absolutely adored, even if it’s not a particular thing I love to read about like m/m or m/f/m – there is just something about her writing that never fails to pull me in, Her characters are brilliant and always so different and in Turning the Tide this was no different! I loved Luke and Connie and I know I probably shouldn’t have loved Luke he is probably everything I dislike in a male lead, he did things I didn’t like and don’t approve of but Ms Alexander made me fall in love with him. She made me see that there are things that go on in people’s lives that we have no idea about and you definitely shouldn’t judge what people do or don’t do. I really took these characters in to my heart just as I have with the others from this series and it was lovely to see some of them again! This story could be read as a standalone but by reading the previous ones you will understand all the different relationships between the characters. I recommend this series 100% and Turning the Tide is a fantastic addition to it. As always I cannot wait to read whatever this author releases next!!
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) by Phoebe Alexander 4 out of 5 stars Phoebe Alexander is a fantastic author. She never ceases to amaze me. This fifth installment in the Eastern Shore Swingers series takes a different turn from the previous books. *Caution to the tender hearted, while this book does not deal with physical abuse, it does discuss emotional and verbal abuse and I can understand how that may be a trigger for some people so if that is you, please read with caution.* This book takes us on the journey on Luke. Luke has not been physically intimate with his wife in a long, long time and to make it worse..she is emotionally and verbally abusive. Luke has lost love. Barbara is little more than a master trying to control a servant. Luke’s friend Cap convinces him to take a trip down to The Factory, an exclusive club he owns with his friends, to try to take his mind off of his problems and to see if he can “work out” some of his frustrations. While there Luke meets Conne, who is the spark to his dying fire. But when Barbara, Luke’s sad excuse for a wife shows up and starts to cause trouble, things turn from Hot and Steamy to Drama and Suspense in a heartbeat. I loved this book. The banter between Connie and Luke, the new dynamic of the relationships and the new topics and subjects that Ms. Alexander addressed with some very unconventional characters. I loved this book and series!
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) By: Phoebe Alexander 5 out of 5 stars
The story Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) by Phoebe Alexander is a romantic suspense book. It is the next wonderful story in a series that I have loved since reading the first book. The story is entertaining, romantic, and also had me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the character of Luke Cannon. He is a man that wonders if he will every experience intimacy or love again. Luke is a character that I grew to care about and I found myself wanting him to find happiness. My heart hurt for him as I read about his life. Luke meets a woman who is independent, caring, compassionate, kind, and beautiful. Read this book to find out what happens next. This is a story that is emotional and mine went up and down the entire book. There are flirty and dirty talking as well as steamy moments that make the temperature in the room rise. I love that this series has characters that are familiar as they have been brought forward from previous books. You can feel the bonds of friendship and the feeling of family between them. I was drawn into the story from the beginning. Don’t miss out on the latest story in a series that includes an exciting club for swingers. Highly recommended reading.
Turning The Tide is Book 5 in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander and this author has hit the jackpot with this series. Each book gets better and better. Once I saw this book, I knew I needed to read it ASAP! Turning the Tide was a little different from the others in the series. Some of it reminded me of Paisley and Calvin’s book with all the crazy action. This book has so much going on and I just kept reading and reading. There was never a dull page. Luke Cannon is a ENT doctor who happens to be married and pretty good friends with Cap. Luke’s marriage isn’t anything to write home about. His wife is verbally and emotionally abusive. I’m not sure why Luke had stayed with his wife after the last 10 years of torture she has put him through. He manages to stay faithful even though he was miserable. He finally gives in the Cap’s invitation to go to The Factory. He meets Connie the first night and cannot seem to get her out of his mind. There’s a lot of back and forth between Connie and Luke once she finds out he is married but he tries to let her understand his situation. This book has so much going on, it’s impossible to not LOVE IT!!! Your going to have to read the book to find out just how much action there is. Another amazing read! Well done Phoebe!! Cannot wait for more.
This story gives another view into marriage, BDSM and just being a decent person. (Some of my favorite things!)
Luke is a married man. His marriage, like every marriage, has had its ups and downs. But unlike every marriage, Luke’s wife is unstable and there seems to be more to their situation. Their marriage is in the toilet before we even get to met them, so what is really going on?
Connie, not Luke’s wife, is herself divorced and learning to have fun and to trust men. Her ex-husband hurt her emotionally so she’s not ready to fall in love.
When Luke and Connie are convinced, by different friends, to visit a swinger’s club called, The Factory, they learn many new things.
“We have a real mix of people, of ages, sizes, colors, politics, backgrounds. It’s like once we get naked, we strip all those differences away. Underneath we’re all just human.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world worked this way?
If you are looking for some hot and spicy sex scenes with consensual adults, then you should pick up this book. Alexander has written another great story in her Eastern Shore Swingers Series, in fact you should check them all out, starting with Book one, Fisher of Men.
Turning the Tides was a great 5 star read and book five in the Eastern Shore Swingers series. Phoebe Alexander has once again pulled me right in with her writing, I was an emotional mess by the time I was done.
Luke is in a marriage that has no emotional or physical connection other than the abuse from his wife Barbara (who I despised very much). When his friend invites him to The Factory, a swingers club he meets Connie. There is something about her that draws him in, it's been a long time that he has felt anything like what she brings out in him.
Connie has moved to Ocean City to be near her sister. When she meets Luke at the club there is something about him that gets her attention. Fate brings them together again when Luke meets the new nurse at his practice. Where will they go from here? Can Connie help Luke forget all his problems?
Overall I really enjoyed this book, Connie and Luke were great for each other. We get all sorts of great scenes with these two. The secondary characters were great, some I liked some I hated. This can be read as a stand alone, however I suggest reading all the books so you can connect with all the characters. I highly recommend this series. I look forward to reading more from Phoebe Alexander.
Turning the Tide (Eastern Swingers Book 5) Phoebe Alexander 5 out of 5 Stars
Turning the Tide is another perfect addition to the Eastern Swingers series. Phoebe Alexander has once again delivered a page turning story with captivating characters and a rich storyline. It is hard for me to put into words just how Turning the Tide (and the rest of the Eastern Swingers series) makes me feel. Phoebe Alexander is incredibly talented in her writing with a clear goal to deliver body positive as well as sex positive stories that leave you feeling like you met several new friends in these characters and said friends just “get” you. While sexy like all of Phoebe Alexander’s writing, Turning the Tide tackles adult issues that in many circles are taboo to talk about, alternative lifestyles, abuse, infidelity (to name a few) in a way that is comfortable and intriguing. I can’t stress enough that you should read ALL of the Eastern Swingers series, preferably in order. It is not necessary, in fact I’ve jumped around a bit but each book gets better than the last and seeing how each character’s lives are woven into each other’s is a fun addition to the storylines. As always, I look forward to reading more from Phoebe Alexander.
ONE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE!!! Oh baby! Talk about hit and run. Pheobe doesn't hesitate to put it out there and shake things up a bit. Just to let 'em fall. She continually brings her imagination and insight to the edge and then jumps. Can't get any better than that. Her eye and mind for detail just blows me away. This baby grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. Just when you think it can't get any worse. Wrong! This little gem will keep you in a tail spin and on a razors edge throughout the entirety of this juicy little number. Phoebe's take no prisoners and no turning back attitude really set the stage for this incredible storyline and thrilling plot. Action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, page turning bombshell brings this bad boy roaring to life beautifully. Throw in all the drama, doubt, uncertainty, intrigue and suspense make for one wild experience. The characters are complex, believable and so realistic you feel like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphically detailed you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Amazing job Phoebe, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
As always, an excellent read by Phoebe Alexander. I don't know how she always manages to capture the reader so thoroughly, but she truly does every single time. This may very well be my favorite Eastern Shore book to date too. There was so much to this story - so many topics that many authors would shy away from, but she not only delved right in there but brought it to life. Alexander has a gift with words, and I am never disappointed.
In this story, we get a few taboo topics, you know aside from the obvious swinger one. ;-) I thoroughly enjoyed the little taste of the BDSM world. It was fun and added a whole different level of steam. But what I really want to focus on is the other taboo. Infidelity. That's a hard no for a lot of people in their stories, but as usual Alexander masters the page to bring the plight of a broken hero to light. Sometimes what appears to be one thing isn't actually reality. And I would argue Alexander does a superb job of depicting just how wrong appearances can be. Sometimes infidelity isn't sex; it's the lack thereof. There's always more than meets the eye.
Absolutely fantastic read! I couldn't put it down!
I really, really enjoyed this book. The romance between two older people who have seen a lot of life was a very refreshing break from the usual 20-something year-olds who pledge undying love in romances. Both Luke and Connie knew what they wanted and didn’t stand for games. The suspense part of the plot was well thought out and gave depth to Luke’s decisions. The man was certainly justified in his actions – it’s been a while since I found a character as loathsome as his wife. I especially liked how the author didn’t rely on the draw of the lifestyle to determine the arc of the story. The scenes of the lifestyle were interwoven seamlessly with the suspense plot, and I appreciated that the author presented the characters as normal, every-day people instead of focusing on the darker side like many other novels. This was the fifth in a series, but the first one that I have read. I liked the style of writing and the characters enough to go find the first four in the series. I definitely recommend this book. This review was written based on a complimentary pre-release copy.
Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers, #5) by Phoebe Alexander was another wonderful addition to this addicting series.
The latest addition to the Eastern Shore Swingers, and I must say Phoebe Alexander has done it again. I'm normally not a fan of the cheating husband plot line, but man oh man, if you met his wife, you'd understand in a heartbeat. Plus his situation, and the complex mess his wife manages to weave them into was something else. If anyone deserves to be happy and loved it was Luke.
I want to say that this was one of the best in the series, but it's hard, because all the books in this series is fun, well written and the mix of vibrant, unique characters brings this series to life unlike any series I have read. If you're looking for a fresh, out there read, I highly suggest you get your hands on not only this book, but this series.
So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will fall head over heels, and rooting for Luke and Connie
I want to start this review with a caveat: There is a subject matter in this book that is a hard no for a lot of readers. It is not a hard no for me, so I didn't care. While reading it, I had to reverse the genders to understand what was going. I consider myself a pretty forward thinking human, but this story tripped me up and I'm ashamed for that. Once I was able to settle in, I enjoyed the story very much.
I have enjoyed this series. It's nice to see characters we've met in the past make appearances again, and with the other stories in this series - all is not as it appears to be.
This is a multi-layered suspense with twists and turns and great energy. No words are wasted and each character plays an important role in the unfolding story.
As with all of the other stories in this series, it can be read as a stand-alone because it has a very clear beginning, middle, and end. The plot moves at a great pace and I was able to stay engaged in the story from cover to cover.
I recommend this story, this series, and absolutely this author.
Turning the Tide is the fifth book in the Eastern Shore Swingers series by author Phoebe Alexander. When Cap invites Luke Cannon to the Factory, Luke does not really plan on anything happening. He is in a loveless marriage that has taken a quarter century of his life away from him leaving him a lonely man with very little hope in sight. Until he spots Connie, a sweet, sexy and fun woman who is everything that his wife is not. Just when Luke thinks that maybe his world is turning around for him things in his personal life go from bad to worse. Will Connie be everything he thinks she will? Or will she turn her back on him too? I enjoyed this installment of the Eastern Shore series. While I liked Luke, he was a little too whiny for me, Connie though was a hoot, as well as independent, snarky and all-around fun. I enjoyed the mystery regarding Luke and I kind of would have enjoyed more of that and less of the shenanigans at the Factory, but then again that’s just one readers opinion.
I give Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5) by Phoebe Alexander, 5 stars.
This book was absolutely amazing! I originally picked this series up because I live on the Eastern Shore and let's face it, there are not many fiction books about this area. But I was pleasantly surprised at just how good each book has been. This being book five in the series, there is a potential for things to get stale, it happens in some series. But that is not the case here. The main characters are so great, you can't help but love them. You can really understand where Luke is coming from and you can understand why he falls for Connie. There are many emotions as well as surprises you will not see coming. I could not put the book down!
This a romance with some hot and heavy scenes and with the series revolving around a swingers club, so if you are not opened-minded, this may not be the book for you. But of you are, you need to pick up this book as well as the whole series. The author is exceptional and weaves a wonderful story you won't want to escape from.
