Juniper Kai is a great spy. She has all the tools, spy-o-scopes, fingerprint powder, and wigs. She loves playing spy with her mom and dad, but lately, they have been a bit preoccupied. Juniper is the only kid on her street, so she has to find a way to spy on her own.

It seems mom and dad are being more and more secretive and Juniper decides to use her best spy-tactics to get to the bottom of what is so secret. When she is finally able to put all the clues together, she realizes it may just be the best secret she has ever discovered.

The pages are full of exciting things to see and Neonakis takes care to insert all kinds of spy gear and hints with bright and fun illustrations. I loved all the disguises she created for Juniper Kai. She thought of everything including an evidence board and laser movement detectors. Laura Gehl is the queen of children’s books and writes silly stories that kids can relate to. I loved that this book includes a diverse family including a dad with glasses and a mom that isn’t perfectly skinny.

I hate to give away the big reveal, but I’ll hint that this just “might” be a great book for a future big sister. It’s a really sweet story and reading it would be a great way to share the news with a future big sister.

I love the way this author shows the young main character finding out what is going on in the family from clues she finds around the house and shed. And the clever ways she has to find out what her parents are not ready to tell her yet. Love the big illustrations and the expressions on the parents and Juniper's face.

Juniper is smart and the best spy in town. She usually works solo, but at times her parents play with her. She is the only kid in her street, but she doesn't mind. Her parents start acting weird and start spending less time with her. She decides to use her spying skills to find out what her parents are up too. With her skills she is able to decipher what her parents are busy with. When she finds out the good news she is thrilled. What do you think the secret might be? This was an adorable book. Wonderful illustrations.

Gehl is one of my favorite authors and she didn’t let me down with her newest book. It’s cute, original and kept me turning pages and smiling.

I was immediately drawn in with the illustrations and the variety of text colors. It only takes a glance at the cover to determine just how cute Juniper Kai is.

The little ones should get a kick out of the equipment Juniper Kai uses:

Spy-o-scopes
Fingerprint powder
Wigs
Disguises
Code-breaking manuals
James Bond spy camera, and more.
This little spy lets us know that she is just fine working alone. And, of course, Mom and Dad are always around to fill in the times she’d like someone to play with. But lately, something isn’t right.

Mom and dad aren’t always available to help entertain her. And more than that. There’s something secretive going on.

Suddenly, Dad was too busy to play. Mom was too tired. And Mom and Dad kept whispering to each other. Juniper felt a bit left out.

Now if that doesn’t sound like the perfect time for a spy to do spy work, I don’t know when it would be. So Juniper gathers her various spying tools and the sleuthing commences.

As I mentioned earlier the text is fun for the reader and the bright colors are bound to even speak to the non-reader. As the clues mount up the guessing will begin.

And the outcome of the mystery is most satisfying!

Juniper Kai fancies herself a super spy. She has spy-o-scopes, fingerprint powder and even spy wigs. Her parents used to play with her, but they were too busy or tired. Juniper was okay with that because spies worked alone. One day she noticed her parents whispering and jotting names on notes and building things in the spare room. To Juniper this was the perfect job for a spy. She began spying and listening and used all of her spy agent gadgets and couldn’t seem to figure out what was happening. When she spotted her dad one night carrying boxes to the garage, she had to take a look. What do you think she discovered?

This cute story has humor, adventure and very cool illustrations that capture the spy essence kids will love. Parents and teachers will have fun sharing this story as a read-a-loud. Young listeners can have a discussion about what the secret could be. Beginner readers will find the short sentence structure easy to navigate and read.

An adorable story about a little girl who was "born to be a spy!" My son and I loved this book and all the super-spy gear and tactics Juniper uses to uncover the mystery behind her parents' unusual behavior. A very fun, sweet book that kids and their parents will enjoy sharing together.

Juniper Kai: Super Spy was a great read. It's a story about a young girl who is missing something in her life and she doesn't know quite what it is. That is, until she uses her super spy skills to determine the thing she was missing was...a sibling.

The story showed parents/adult lives through the lens of a child. One thing I have always found interesting was how little and how much children know about the lives of the adults around them. This story kind of does that, but it's more about a child and a family wanting another child/sibling. This would be a good book to read to a young child expecting a sibling.

I will mention that this book could be used for a thesis essay if wanted. This book lends itself well to being examined with a fine comb if someone wanted too. I wont do it, but it's there.

Moving onward to the illustrations. I thought the illustrations were wonderful. I liked that the mom was illustrated in a real-life mom way, disheveled and full of love. I liked the color scheme of the book and the various colors throughout the text. I also liked that the story showed, for one page, the parents playing with Juniper Kai. I enjoyed the small details throughout the book, like, there are university degrees hanging on the wall of their living room. I also liked that the parents did not look similar, ethnically and complexion wise. I also really enjoyed the look of Juniper Kai. I loved the earrings and the hair. The hair was my favorite part.

Thank you to Two Lions Publishing for providing #Collabookation an advanced reader copy of this book, availabile Sept. 3, 2019.

Juniper Kai was born to be a spy. Mom and Dad used to play spy games with her, when suddenly mo becomes too tired and dad too busy to play. Feeling lonely, Juniper decides to put her spy abilities to crack the code of what is going on at home. She finds a list of names, dad putting together some contraption looking device in the garage, and hears mom talking about the "huge change" that is coming. As an adult, you quickly realize what the ending might be. I'd be interested in reading this aloud to children to see if they are able to figure it out along the way, as well. This would be a great book to give to a young child who is finding out that they will be a big sister or brother in the near future!

4.5 stars!

Thank you to the publisher and Blue Slip Media @blue_slip_media for sharing the free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Something’s up with Juniper Kai’s mom and dad. They used to be her best buddies, but now they’re too tired to play and there’s a lot of whispering going on. It’s obviously a case for JUNIPER KAI: SUPER SPY!

You will love Alexandria Neonakis’s colorful illustrations which make this delightful story by Laura Gehl come alive. AND you’ll love Juniper Kai! This strong girl uses her spy skills, LOTS of cool spy gadgets, lots of ingenuity and a huge imagination to solve the mystery. And be sure and catch her suggestion at the breakfast table. Your kids won’t get it, but you will!

This book is available now. I’m certain you’ll want to add it to your list!

Juniper loves spy work and often has her parents as her side-kicks. But slowly things began to change. All of a sudden they were too tired or too busy to help. She sets off on her own using every spy trick and device she has to find out what is up with them. Being the super sleuth that she is she finds out her family will soon be growing bigger by one little person.

Juniper investigates when her parents start acting strangely (building a crib, making lists of names, mom being tired all the time). And she cracks the case! She's getting a little sibling! Lots of spy verbiage sprinkled through here that kids may find fun, but that may require some explanation for younger kiddos.

Funny book about a girl, Juniper, who was born to be a spy. She has noticed that something different is going on with her parents, so she starts a spy mission to discover what's up.

SPOILER ALERT - stop reading here to avoid spoilers

This is a very cute "new baby sibling" story, with a wonderfully memorable character. I'm wondering if there will be new books with Juniper Kai!
