I do so enjoy a good Amish series. This wasn't appalling, but it was very unconventional and loses much of its credibility in the genre.

Amish life is one of simplicity and plainness. In this book, the reader should have learned about how the Amish practice voluntary simplicity. Instead,, it includes a simplistic glimpse of the Amish life, without the strict rules normally associated with that life. So it makes you wonder if the reader actually researched the topic.

The widowed mother was unable or unwilling to perform her duties as head of the household, often spoiling her daughters and deferring her responsibilities to her step-daughter. it was very rough on the step-daughter having to be the leader of the household, nurturer, and disciplinarian. And yet, the step-mother never acknowledged her as one of her own.

If was odd for this mother to make the day-to-day decision for her daughters. However, at 18 years of age, the oldest half-sister, Mercy, was introduced to her mother's best friend's nephew in hopes they would be compatible with marriage. Indeed, Stephan and Mercy found each other appealing and this book focuses on their courtship and their possible life-long future together.

So it behooves me to understand how it has received such high ratings. I have to admit that I did not notice any grammatical errors and the plotline seems very plausible. Plus, it is clean and wholesome.

However, there was no depth to the story. The characters were not well-developed. The sentences are fairly short, the vocabulary is simple, and the dialogue was not that interesting. Many scenes stretched beyond being far-fetched but stood as inconceivable in their unique environment.

This book is a series about the Amish Bonnet sisters. Florence is the oldest stepsister and she has five younger stepsisters. This book was about Mercy who decided before she met the man that she wanted to marry him. Stephen turned out to be very nice and they did get married. Each of these books will be about the sisters as they grow up. Florence is interested in marriage but hasn’t found anyone she likes. There’s is a new neighbor named Carter, but he’s English so he’s off limits.

This was painfully slow and plodding. Not to mention that the author seemed very confused whose story she was telling. 80% of this book was about the oldest of the girls, Florence. A small bit was about Mercy and her romance. This is much more of an unfinished Cinderella story than anything to do with Mercy. Unless she's the wicked-half sister. The sisters are an unpleasant petulant and lazy lot. Florence does most of the work and the sisters only work when Florence makes them. The Step Mother is such an immature and obtuse character that it is very hard not to actively dislike her.

This is the first book I've read so far and seems to be an introduction to the family. It was typical of some of the other books I've read about the Amish lifestyle. This one was settled around an apple orchard that provided their income and the details were interesting.

The characters were engaging but I grew tired of the constant bickering between the younger siblings. Also, it didn't seem like the mother took much of a role in parenting due to her husband's death. Florence sacrificed her chance to marry in order to run the orchard and house.

It was a story of deceit, selfishness, and taking a chance on love. The spiritual aspect came in mostly from Florence who seemed to be frustrated with her life.

Book 9:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel A Baby For Florence: Amish Romance (The Amish Bonnet Sisters Book 9) by Samantha Price and this review was given freely.
Full of drama with a fair amount of negativity. this fast paced novel has recaps of prior book highlights intermixed with snippets of the low moral resulting from Levi's increasing rules; the couples and potential couples rocky romances; Cherish's sly, manipulative and sometimes rude ways as well as an unexpected accident for Florence caused by Bliss's birthday present and Wilma's spiteful personality.
Can be read alone as it contains a good recap but is best if read in sequence.

4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel Amish Bliss: Amish Romance (The Amish Bonnet Sisters Book 10) by Samantha Price and this review was given freely.
Action and drama packed with a fair amount of negativity with a delivery that is at times awkward and stilled with a good degree of recapping. There are snippets from the lives of all the girl siblings including two of Cherish's schemes going awry, Florence and Carter naming baby Iris, Wilma's softening toward Florence and Carter, romances progressing for both Hope and Bliss as well as Levi and Wilma going on a trip leaving the girls unsupervised.

Book 11:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel Amish Apple Harvest: Amish Romance (The Amish Bonnet Sisters Book 11) by Samantha Price and this review was given freely.
Primarily negative but easy flowing with a cliff hanger ending in a secret revealed. I purchased a copy of the novel Amish Mayhem: Amish Romance (The Amish Bonnet Sisters Book 12) by Samantha Price and this review was given freely.
Drama filled and easy flowing with a fair amount of conflict reflected by a bad newspaper article increasing increasing store traffic; Caroline's bad influence on Favor, her lying to avoid leaving, her flirty with the unmarried men in the family; Cherish's jealousy; the story of Wilma's hiding the will getting out; and Levi's heart attack.

Book 13:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novel The Cost of Lies: Amish Romance (The Amish Bonnet Sisters Book 13) by Samantha Price and this review was given freely.
Fairly negative again focused on Cherish's self-centeredness,loneliness, jealousy and abrupt oftentimes negative or callous comments. It was nice to see a softening in Ada and the start of atonement/reconciliation involving Wilma, Levi and Florence. Ends with a happy scene.
As Levi recovers in the hospital after a heart attack, he urges Wilma to make things right with Florence while at the same time Ada, Florence and Cherish focus on running the orchard, business and home. Contains a brief update on all the siblings.

I started this book about 9:30 or 10:00 one night and got so involved I couldn't put it down until I finished it a few hours later. I probably enjoyed this book better than most . I always enjoy reading Samantha Price books .I liked the parts about Francis the older sister and how she felt her step Mother had skipped past her to help her own daughter to find a husband first. Frances felt her time was running out in finding a husband but at the same time she felt like the task of being the mother had been placed on her shoulders. She thought she didn't have time for marriage because she was the one who kept the house running. I can't wait to find out if she ever gets a husband and if she does how her step Mother will manage without her. This is a pre-reviewed book . I recommend this book

Florence Baker (18, stepdaughter) took a break from her sewing machine.
Florence’s other family members are: Honor (dochder/sister), Joy (3rd dochder), Hope, Favor, Cherish (13, youngest dochder), Earl (1/2-bruder), & Mark(1/2-bruder).
Mercy (eldest dochder/sister) with her new dress that Florence made went on a date with Stephen Wilkes (fiancé).
Simon & Liza liked to argue/fight.

What news did Stephen & Mercy Bonnet have for everyone?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written Amish book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great Amish movie. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; Amazon Digital Services LLC. Kindle Mobi; ePub book

Amish Mercy is the first book written by Samantha Price in her The Amish Bonnet Sisters series. This book definitely sets the stage for this series by introducing the reader to all of the Baker sisters. The unique writing style of the author has developed grwat characters for her to build a wonderful series on.

Florence, who is the eldest sister, is more of another mudder to the other girls. She makes decisions, hands out chores, and tries to quiet al the silly arguments amongst the younger sisters. Mercy is ready and willing to marry a
young Amish man who will be arriving to help with the apple harvest. Florence being the sensible one tries to convince Mercy to wait until she knows the man awhile. This starts the journey of the Bonnet sisters and it is quite the journey. I enjoyed this storyline.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Samantha Price on writing another amazing story for her readers enjoyment and starting out another great series.

This was a cute Amish story. Florence is the oldest of the children that still live at home. Her father passed away, leaving behind her step mother, Wilma and several half sisters. Mercy is the next oldest in line, and determined to get married to the visiting nephew of her mother's best friend, Ada. Stephen comes to help them with the harvest of their apple orchard and is instantly drawn to Mercy and her to him.

Florence handles most of the running of the household as her stepmother seems to leave the planning and disciplining of the girls to her. She is asked to handle to neighbors' wandering cows that enjoy eating the family's apples. She goes to talk to the grumpy neighbor and discovered a young, handsome man instead. He introduced himself as Carter and he's bought the house from the previous owner. She's confused by her attraction to this young Englisher, so she's rude to him at times. Then she feels guilty and brings him little gifts. No one else seems to interact with him at all. He's the one that calls them the " bonnet sisters ", which Florence finds insulting.

The story is cute but I thought the characters were a little too obsessed with looks and most of the younger sisters were lazy; which are not common in other Amish books I've read.

I've been curious about Amish romance, so when I saw the author had a handful of audiobooks from this series up on Youtube, I figured I'd give it a shot! This was a nice introduction to the genre, as it was not a super strict or hardcore depiction of Amish life, and the main characters were not stereotypical traditional women (ie. meek, subservient, etc.). The setup for the eldest sister's romance is great and I'm excited to see how it plays out! (I also found her to be very relatable, as a fellow single 24 year old woman who takes on too much work :p) I do resent a few notions that were raised towards the end: 1. that having a baby will fix a broken or abusive marriage, and 2. that all women should get married, and if they don't, they will wind up as bitter, lonely old bitties. Maybe it's too much to ask of Amish (or otherwise overtly religious) fiction, considering the typically traditional and/or conservative nature, but I wish I could just have a nice apple orchard love story without misogyny. That being said, I'm still going to check out the rest of the series!

Samantha Price is a new author for me and I loved her book Amish Mercy a new series by her and book one of it. The series is The Amish Bonnet Sisters. I feel in love with the characters. Well written. The story was great and can't wait to read book 2. Mercy Baker had it set in her mind she was getting married and to whom she would marry. All this before she even met him. Her sister Florence isn't to keen on her thinking this way. Florence is the oldest and is still not married or even seeing anyone. She was trying to get her to slow down so she wouldn't get hurt and to take time to find true love. Thinking on her own how will she find true love? Who would want her? My goodness those darn cows are pout in her apple trees again, Why can't they keep their cows in there own yard. I'm going to let that neighbor know they made a deal when her father sold them the property. Wait who is this? Get the book find out. Will Mercy get her husband? 5 star

Amish Mercy is the first of the great new Amish Bonnet Series by Samantha Price. This is the story of Florence Baker, her stepmother, Wilma, and her sisters and brothers that form their blended family. Wilma and her best friend, Ada, have hatched a plan to get Ada’s nephew and Mamm’s eldest, Mercy, married off.

In the background, there is a periodical meeting between Florence and a new city-like, English neighbor who is very secretive about what he does for a living and why of all things would he buy a country farm. Oh, by the way, he is good-looking and Florence is drawn to him for some unknown reason.

Can’t wait for Book 2. Get your copy today. I was given an ARC for my review and honest opinion.

This tale is a quick read, and lacks the depth of the Amish community and faith tenets that I have encountered in other Amish books. And goodness! These siblings are whiny, bossy, complaining, and mouthy! Not at all like I picture an Amish family. The mother is emotionally distant from the sisters, and so half-sister Florence has more or less taken over the job of mothering - and bossing - her sisters. Mercy wants to get married, and she will have her way or else. The characters seem rather flat and not well developed, and the Bishop especially does not ring true, willing to marry the couple and asking only that they be baptized first. I don’t usually think of Amish stories as being fluffy and light, but this one is. Perhaps it’s the Amish equivalent of chick-lit.

Listened to audiobook free on YouTube by Author. Posting this for my own use to remember characters when I read/listen to series.

Book 1 - Intro to characters in Baker Family.
Florence Baker (24) cares for her widowed step mothers household filled with seven young whiny step-sisters.
Book 1 (especially read by author I heard) sounded very whiny, spoiled and not like other Amish fiction. Mostly to loss of the father and head of household and the mother suffering from grief. The family raises apples and sells them and other products to make a living. Previous financial hardship caused the Father to sell off some land to a now new neighbor, Carter Braithwaite, who is an Englisher with a car.
Mercy Baker met Stephen Wilkes at Apple harvest and married him.

This was for a better word my gateway into Amish books, and I am so glad it was! Although the main character was hard to determine, as the book was named after the second oldest sister, I absolutely enjoyed it. The pacing was good, and the writing always managed to bring a smile to my face. Something about these slice of life stories always reminds me of Little House on the Prairie. I couldn’t stop reading from the moment I picked it up. On a side note though I found it rather aggravating that the mother left almost all of the parenting to the oldest step daughter. Reason being why she (mother) is my least favorite character from the series.

Great series.................

The author has put together a cast of characters and a wonderful story to put them in together. The story is of a Amish family with an large Apple orchard, the story is centered around a woman who is the eldest daughter. The father has passed on and the mother is not one to take charge, leaving the daughter to try to be in charge of the family of six girls and the orchard.

The following kept this book from having more stars: (1) multiple continuity errors, (2) Amish characters doing or saying un-Amish things with no context for doing so, (3) an Amish couple being able to marry quickly by an Amish bishop but neither one has joined the order OR taken instruction, and (4) abrupt ending without real closure.

This is the first book in the series. I will not be reading any more. No, I do NOT recommend this book.

This was a really sweet story about Florence on our sisters. Florence is the oldest, but after her father remarried, she became the oldest stepsister everyone in the house, depended on Florence to get everything Dan especially her stepmother Wilma I found the plot, very interesting and gave a nice if you enter the Amish way of life. I recommend this book for those who like a good almost romance story.

A very good & exciting book. We get to see how Mercy's life develops and changes that happen with her. This story is part of the series Amish Bonnet Sisters. The Baker family is such an interesting amish family to follow and read about. You see how they each live their lives in a community that loves God, but how they have everyday problems like everyone else.

I'm not sure whether it was the reading or the writing or both, but this book dragged for me. The story was fun, yet the narration lacked sparkle. And, aside from Florence and her new neighbor, I couldn't connect with the characters. The romantic couple was incredibly immature!
This said, I am listening to the next book. So there's that!

A very good Amish series

This was a very good book about mixed families through marriage. The step mother to 3 and then her own children with their father. It shared how some feelings were closer with her own children and then being older responsibilities fell to her. I enjoyed this book from start to finish

Couldn't put it down

Quick read. Being from Amish country originally it was easy to imagine the roadside stand. I'm in SC now and miss the Amish pies and buns from the markets and stands. This book kept my interest but is a bit too tame for me.. There is not one curse word or anything off color BUT I intend to read them all in order.

Enjoyable Read

I enjoyed this book but did feel it was repetitive somewhat regarding Florence’s feelings about wanting to get married. I thought the characters were portrayed so that they were easily visualized. I recommend this author and look forward to the next book in the series.

Just not my cup of tea. I couldn't get into the characters or the plot. While the writing is fine, it was lacked the heartwarming touch that I enjoy in Amish fiction. Happy ☺reading 📚!
