I've always loved the written word. For as long as I can remember, I read as much as I could, as often as I could. Cereal boxes, newspapers, product packaging. Ebony, Essence, and Jet Magazine. Billboards. I loved it all. I read the entire Fear Street series, as well as the Sweet Valley Books, from Twins and Friends through Sweet Valley High. Each week I'd bring 15 or 20 books home from the library, and read them all before the due date.

Now, my mother owned a pristine, barely touched collection of Harlequin romance novels, and I was not to touch them under any circumstances. Well, as a teenager, you know what that meant. I read some of them, and got my first introduction to romance.

When I was sixteen, I picked up my stepmother's copy of Night Song, by Beverly Jenkins. The cover showed an obviously historical image of a black couple, against a beautiful backdrop, locked in a passionate embrace. With my love of history, I had to crack this book. What I read inside literally blew my mind. I was exposed to a wonderful, touching love story involving people who looked like me! What a thrill. To this day Night Song remains my favorite book, and I credit it with planting the seed of desire to write romance. I didn't get serious until many years later, but that's where it all began.

Historical Romance. Small town. Love at first sight.
Naomi & Jonathan
She’s an escaped slave he’s a doctor that passes(sometime).

The title says this is an erotic historical romance, it is NOT. The first love scene is at the end of the book with no heat or passion. It plays out like it’s going to be a slow burn but it never combusts.

The whole relationship with the Masters son was cringy and fantasyish (yes,I made up that word).

This story had all the fixings to be great. It was not. I’m really disappointed. It was hurried and dragged at the same time. I questioned several things through the story. And did the situation with Hannah get resolved but not his mother?
I don’t see myself finishing this series😑🧐

I have become such a historical romance girlie. Beverly Jenkins has definitely helped aid in this love. I decided to take a chance on this to see how Kianna writes.

This overall story was pretty good and enjoyable. Naomi is a runaway who was trying to seek freedom and get to her family. She meets Dr. Johnathan Doyle on this journey and he takes care of her as she’s sick on arrival. This was pretty much a fast paced read as it’s a novella. I think the storyline and how it came together was good. I was left with questions and I wonder if the other 2 novellas will address them.
The romantic parts of this story, which are not many, are not as sensual in my opinion. It’s as if the author was trying to make it historical but it seemed more present day with the terms. Yes these two had a love at first sight type vibe but their intimacy was more erotic in my opinion than sensual. But I still enjoyed this story.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was pleasantly surprised to find and read this book. The language and telling of the story gave me an old world feeling including the hunger for freedom. I loved Naomi and Jonathan's story and how it ended. The only thing that left me wondering was the conclusion of the story with his mother. In one sense I guess it was resolved but I guess I wanted more. It was a short, quick, and good read.

Not what I expectex

This book wasn't what I expected. The word to describe this historical romance wasn't the vibe it gave, it also came off like a medium or slow burn and the book was short and sweet and old fashioned which I enjoyed.

I did like it though so great job

Ok

Ok for a historical novel. I would not say this was an erotic novel, it had some very mild sex scenes, nothing erotic!!
