International bestselling author of twenty one thrillers, thirteen in the Matt Drake Action/Adventure series, also The Disavowed and Alicia Myles series'. All available for the Amazon Kindle.
Another winner from David Leadbeater. In this, the 20th installment of the Matt Drake series, Drake finds himself and his team on an island in the Pacific, where some members of the team, including Mai and Karin, are being held by yet another psychopath. As usual it's action and mayhem from start to finish as they battle mercenaries, clansman, hunters and some hideous monsters, the product of genetic experiments. Then someone sets a nuclear weapon, due to go off in a number of hours. Can Drake save his team in time? You can't take these books seriously, but they are so much fun I'm addicted to them. Recommended for the action fan.
David has to be one of todays best storytellers, I have been an avid reader of all his books since the conception of Matt Drake..way back when we were introduced to him doing a photoshoot (Wow that was along time ago). This book carries straight on from "The Blood King Legacy" where members of the team have been kidnapped and are being transported to Devils Island. What ensues is a manic battle against some of the worlds worst criminals and murders etc will they find the rest of the team or will they be too late. You'll have to read the book to find out and I encourage you to do so. Awesome read David as always.
The Devil is abroad and in collusion with the Blood King, Matt Drake's deadly Nemesis, in Devil's Island - the 20th best-seller in the Matt Drake series that just keeps getting better and more exciting each time.
David Leadbeater is a true rival to Lee Child, Clive Cussler, Dan Brown and should be top of the mystery-thriller book charts with this outstanding tale of murder, mayhem, evil megalomaniacs, psychotic masterminds, mutant killers, ruthless mercenaries and a hidden island lair. Rivalling the Hunger Games at times and horror movies at others, the break-neck action never fails to satisfy and the storyline and engaging characters will thrill all readers. You'll swiftly come to appreciate this master of his craft in each new adventure for Drake,Ben,Dahl,Mai,Alicia,Hayden and all the guys on his SPEAR team.
Can the team overcome the loss of two of their members? Can the new members be trusted? How does SPEAR find the Devil's Island? What happens to the mutant tribes-people on the Island? What happens in the subterranean volcanic tunnels - and how does this turn out? Who has to be rescued from the Devil's castle sanctuary?
As the mission runs against an invisible clock, that's counting down the hours and minutes of SPEAR's survival and that of others on the island, all the SPEAR team members must pool their unique and specialist skills, to make sure the innocent survive and the guilty pay the price of their 'demon' master's delusions. It's so exciting you might want to have an oxygen tank to hand or a paramedic on speed dial, in case your heart can't cope with the shocks and excitement of what happens on Devil's Island. Don't miss this 5-star best-seller - and tell all your friends about the wonderful Matt Drake series by David Leadbeater, that Devil's Island is part 20 of, too!
And so the chase to save Mia, Luther, Karen and Dino they in their own hell locked in a container transported on a large ship to devils island, the devil himself had constructed a plan to make them run for their lives and be hunted through caves caverns all with traps to slow them down. In the meantime Drake and co struggle to find what information they could and finally found a man with a map, besides the devil in his fort there are at least 3-4 gangs of wild mad men they have to get past and lastly the experiments that had been carried out by scientists to find a way to mind control then making monsters as they failed, they lived at the top of the mountain that Mia and friends would be confronted with once they escaped the tunnels, unbeknown to all of them Luka the blood King was also on the island. So the fighting began as usual for their lives, beating all odds they make it to the mountains meet up with Mia who had by the skin of their teeth won the battle and the horror of the tunnels. Luka was leaving with bombs that could end the world leaving behind just one as a surprise of course the devil expected some kind of betrayal finding the bomb 24 hours to get clear of the island he decided to tell the island dwellers which sets off a chain of events fighting killing to get to the remaining boats. Omg it's hell on earth Drake and the SPEAR team have to use all of their whits and strength to save the slaves and get the hell out of there, of course one of the team tried to stop the bomb only to advance the timings now they have less than an hour. Fantastic all go story highly recommended
Solid 4.5 star After how The Blood King Legacy finished I couldn't wait to read this one although I was hesitant after what happened to team members in the last book. Matt Drake and his fellow SPEAR team members need to breach Devil's Island in an attempt to save Mai, Luther, Karin and Dino but it isn't going to be easy especially once they find out not only what occurs with in Devil's castle but worse how barbaric things are on the the island outside of the castle. There are 3 real story lines within the book, Mia and her team running for their lives while being hunted, Matt and his team trying to find Mia and her team, The Devil working through his next hit as well as where to from here. There is plenty of action which I have to say was great but it would have been good to have a few real breathers between all the action, in saying that I realise once you are on the island its all on. There are definitely nail biting moments and times where you aren't sure you want to read on as you are worried who has been lost now and that is what makes a great book. I can not wait to read the next book and see if Hayden comes through on what she has planned as well as if we will ever find out the secret about a team member previously hinted at.
Devil's Island is extremely violent - are you surprised? The intrepid SPEAR team must go there to rescue some of their team members. But it is impossible! No one who has been there knows where it is. And those who have lived to tell the tale speak of unbeliveable terrors including the Devil himself. So, first to find someone who can describe what the team will face there and then to locate the island itself. Meanwhile, the Devil is targeting Dahl's wife and two children for execution. Can SPEAR find the island, rescue their kidnapped team mates, free all who are held captive, and destroy the Devil himself?
Devil's Island (Matt Drake #20) by David Leadbeater is the most incredible thriller so far. I've read all the earlier books and this is by far the most thrill packed. But please start with Book 1 for the full thrill ride! They are all 5 star reads!
I am a fan, have read every single Drake book and also left a few reviews with mostly good comments. Unfortunately I thought this novel was a bit of a letdown that was just over-hyped. I recall reading the Author's Notes in #18 or 19 about this novel saying that the team will never be the same, some will die, the greatest challenge yet, but I actually felt that it just fell short. I guess I expected more radical changes with Team Spear, as was promised. :(
What can I say? Another fantastic, fast-pace and action packed book in the Matt Drake series! The combination of the relentless action and the team's brief glimpses of 'normal' life gives the book more intensity and everything feels more risky, more on a knife's edge. The uncertainty of the 'will they make it or will they unravel' relationships within the team as an extra layer of intrigue throughout the book. I couldn't put it down! I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.
What’s not to love in this book! The gang has to find a hidden island, scale a cliff face not once but twice that is full of mercenary clans to try and rescue the team members that are missing! Then there is the nuke thrown in and boy do you have some kick butt action. Loved it back to the old fast fast pace of previous books. I am extremely happy that they they were able to bury their dead family members. I can’t wait to read the next book. I highly recommend this author! Thank you for using kindle unlimited.
I absolutely love reading about Matt Drake and crew. It's rather exciting to think that around the world there are exclusive teams and shady characters that almost end life the way we know it on a daily basis. Who knows? Could be true, could be 100% fantasy, could be somewhere around 50/50. Either way, I can't get enough! I just wish they came out quicker!
I have absolutely loved every single one of the Matt Drake and SPEAR team novels. David Leadbeater's storytelling is top tier for the genre. It is very reminiscent of Clive Cussler, but with the action dialed up to eleven from start to finish. I can't wait for Matt Drake #21 to see what is next for the team and what the TWO active antagonists are planning!
Following on from the events put in place by the new Blood King, the remaining SPEAR team rush to save there captured friends. The trail leads to Devil island & a race against time to rescue friends, then leave the island before it is destroyed. Good, fast paced book as usual, not sure about the big build up to new future, but we shall see in the next installment!!
What a buildup, what a letdown. Terrible ending, felt nothing. Felt nothing for tremendous characters that I had followed all this time. The sappy ending wanted us to feel but it was a big fail. Do better!
Ledbetter continues the Drake saga with another interesting read. Been hooked since book one on the mix of fast moving plots, likeable and hateful characters and the battle of good versus evil.
This was one of the better story lines in this series. Looking forward to the next book in this series. I hope that if you read this review you will read this book.
I chose this book as a holiday read, it was ok but it needed more action in my opinion. I found it a little boring in places. I wanted more at the end too.
I have now read all 20 books, and can honestly say that they are getting better and better as they go, not that they started from a low point. Each and every book has had a bit more to the story and a lot more to the enjoyment.
Devil’s Island features the author’s signature action scenes and also expands significantly on character development. I always hesitate to use cliches, but I have to say that this certainly is a real page turner. Can’t wait to get started on Matt Drake number 21.
A brilliant book in the series edge one your seat stuff, twists and turns all through book keeps you guessing, very hard book to put down ,keep them coming David thanks for A great book.
