Sons of Wonderland #2

Late as a Rabbit

Rate this book
Follow the white rabbit. . .

Tick.

Jupiter only ever wanted an adventure, but she never should have gone searching for one. It finds her in the form of a white rabbit with silver eyes.

Tock.

When that same white rabbit turns out to be the White Rabbit from the story books, she can’t contain her curiosity. She follows him down the rabbit hole and drops right into Wonderland. But this isn’t the Wonderland she hoped for. The world is filled with danger, horrifying creatures, and a prophecy that speaks of her role.

Tick.

Jupiter never thought her adventure would include blood-thirty Bandersnatch, a Vengeful Red Queen, or a sexy White Rabbit. Nor did she ever think she was an important part of saving such nightmares, but a certain Rabbit drew her into this gruesome world, and she’s determined to stay by his side.

Tock.

Jupiter has to act quickly. The Red Queen is growing more desperate to stop the prophecy from coming true. Jupiter is only the second . . .

. . . and Wonderland is running out of time.

Tick.

*** This is a horror romance retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It includes descriptions of gore, violence, and a sexy Rabbit. Please be advised, there is a trigger warning for this novel for the above mentioned violence and gore, as well, as brief mentions of sexual assault. ***

Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.

If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki.

Stupidly enough i thought that the white rabbit would not be able to tip the mad hatter. And i was wrong. The book main character is amazing, she is a geek and if you are a geek yourself ( like me) you can really relate to her. The story is very different to the first book which makes wonderland an even more interesting place. Ever book you learn more and different things about the world.

I can wait for book 3, this book has made me really curious about Cheshire and his mate.

Book 2 in the Sons of Wonderland is just as much fun as the first, but steamier.

Jupiter promised her sister to go on an adventure, right before her sister died. So she moved to a big city and changed jobs. But she wasn't expecting the animal testing and severe mistreatment of a beautiful white rabbit. After rescuing the rabbit and in turn, the rabbit rescues her. She is off to Wonderland with THE white rabbit, who turns out to actually be a smoking hot man. She is the second part of the triad that was prophesied to save Wonderland and its second Son.

Yep, loved it. I love everything about this book. The horror like Wonderland, the super-steamy sex scenes, the absolutely beautiful cover, the hot Sons and the badass women. It's a quick read, which is sad because I want so much more of this world and I'm already halfway through the series.

Age recommendation 18+
It's gorey and violent and there are 3 very graphic sex scenes. Not meant for anyone underage.

Didn't get your letter from Hogwarts or an invitation from a Madman in a Bluebox? How about following Jupiter and the white rabbit back down the rabbit hole in the meantime. If you haven't I do recommend reading Mad as a Hatter first.

Kendra Moreno has written another excellent novel. This book is dark and sexy. Jupiter is a smart, fierce, engaging geek, who isn't afraid to stick up for what she believes is right whether that's against terrible company practices or a tyrannical bloody ruler. She is no damsel in distress. Oh, and the white rabbit is there too ;). White is sexy and protective but not in a way that stifles Jupiter, they complement each other very well. We also get to check in with many of our favorites from Mad as a Hatter and meet new twisted wonderland characters.

More like 3.5 stars, but not quite 4 so I'm rounding down this one

It was a nice, fast paced story. Like with the first one in the Sons of Wonderland series, I liked the setting, the characters and the plot. They were all great. But sadly, what bothered me with the first book, Mad as a Hatter, was even more accentuated in Late as a Rabbit, namely the insta love/lust trope. I don't like it and I usually try to stay away from stories that feature it. Luckily everything else about the story I liked so the insta love thing only brought down this read to 3 stars. If the love story was just a little more developed this could have easily been a 5 star read. So, I'm sure that if insta love doesn't bother you as much as it does me you're gonna enjoy this book very much.

This is a return to Wonderland for me. And the adventure is just as gripping and adventurous as Mad as a Hatter. White is more than a Rabbit and Jupiter is no Alice (thank god). Kendra Moreno again shows us another part of the Wonderland world and characters in vivid detail.
I love that Jupiter embraces the adventure as HER adventure and her part in the story.
I recommend this book to any Alice in Wonderland fan or anyone who likes a twist on an old story.
Definitely worth the read

The plot of this series is just so intriguing. I liked it a lot. However, I'm not really a fan of the sexual kinks presented in this one, plus the bunny calling was ridiculous. I hope Cheshire's story is better than this.😩 So, let's bunny bunny hop to the next story. 🐇🐇🐇

First things first, if you haven't read Book 1 Mad as a Hatter, do it now. Book 2 builds off Book 1 perfectly but has its own twists and thrills of its own. We meet a couple new charaters as White sets off to help fulfill his part of the prophecy.

Jupiter is her name, saving the White Rabbit is her game. Down the Rabbit hole she must go, on an adventure to a world she doesn't know. To take down the Red Queen she's one of the three, and together they will set Wonderland free. Each one of the three seem to know they must try, or our beloved Wonderland is sure to die. The girls must now take a stand, and save the Sons of Wonderland. A third is still to take part in this game, for Cheshires is the one she's to tame. For a man who always hides behind a mask, this will not make for an easy task. For if she cannot win Cheshires heart, the Red Queen will tare Wonderland apart.

Ahhh I can't wait for Book 3! Cause Book 1 and 2 knocked it out the freaking park! Way to go Kendra!

Wow just wow. This story is just as fantastic as The Hatters story. I love Jupiter. She is an awesome main character. She took everything in stride. When asked to go to wonderland she started packing. Loved it. Finally getting more on what is going on with Alice. Alice is really creepy. This story pulls you in and gives you a whole new look at wonderland. White Rabbit sounds hot as hell. I am looking so forward to reading about the third son of wonderland. This is a definite must read. Awesome story!!!

Oh wow!! Well people let me tell you, this book is amazing! If you read book 1 you know Kendra writes an amazing story (of not please read Mad as a Hatter before reading this one, or else you will be totally lost). Yes so book 2 of the Sons of Wonderland did not disappoint, the storyline just got more intens and more, just more. Please come down the Rabbit hole with us, but remember you can drool all you want but Rabbit is mine ;)

This was another great book in a fantastic series. Kendra has created a wonderland that feels both new and familiar at the same time. The characters are a joy to get to know and the world building is phenominal. The plot is well thought out, exciting and mysterious. These books are such an adventure to read. I’m so glad I discovered them!

Late as a Rabbit

**NOTE** If you haven't read Mad as a Hatter, the first book of the series, go do that now! This book builds on the first.

Second book of the Sons of Wonderland series, a revisioning of Alice in Wonderland. A smoothly written story that focuses on the White Rabbit and his prophesied mate, Jupiter. It follows their story from initial meeting, to reveal of who White is, to their journey through Wonderland and Jupiter's acceptance of who she is and her role to play in the prophecy. Great read that holds your attention!

Get ready to jump down the rabbit hole into Wonderland as we continue our adventurers with the Sons of Wonderland. This time we get to learn more about White and his roll in Wonderland. We get to meet the funny and quirky Jupiter, and some other amazing new characters. See some fantastic new world building. And even get an update on our lovely Hatter and Clara. This was a fantastic read and will keep you wanting more the entire time. Already craving the next book.

The second instalment of this trilogy does not disappoint. Jupiter is just as sassy and smart as Clara from Mad as a Hatter. However, Jupiter’s geekiness is fabulously demonstrated throughout the book which made me laugh out loud. The plot is clever with mysteries to solve. Brilliant read. Highly recommend 🤓

Another intriguing and dark twist on Alice in Wonderland. I really like the idea of "sons" of Wonderland. This time the White Rabbit gets his mate and it's just as hot as the Hatter's book. It's also a bit gory, so maybe don't read it while trying to eat lunch like I did.

•• ¿De qué va la historia? ••

This one felt darker than the previous one but still not too over the top. It dealt with a lot more topics than the last one and starts out with the author putting a trigger warning before the prologue (there is talk of sexual abuse that happened to Alice previously while in the asylum, a serial killer coworker in the beginning who probably raped his victims before killing them, and of course scenes of gore with some dead bodies). The author is very sweet in her warning in that she is more than happy to have readers contact her and she will respond to any questions so they can know what to expect if and if they may be triggered. I didn't feel that these scenes were detailed, it is more like heavily implied.

Jupiter was instantly likable to me. She had a strong moral compass, was grieving the loss of her twin, and was a total nerd which I definitely related to. She meets White in his rabbit form first and instantly advocates for him. I really appreciated that she also wasn't a helpless damsel in distress. Her last job (before the book starts) was an advocate of self defense classes so she knew how to hold her own with a knife and fight off an attacker.

White intrigued me from the first book and I was looking forward to a book about him. I loved getting to know this version of the white rabbit. The romance between him and Jupiter was cute, if a little rushed but I think there was a reason for that. They did have sex more than Hatter and Clara did in the last book, but I chalk it up to the fact that he's a rabbit and we all know the saying about how fast rabbits multiply. Learning more about his inner darkness and demons that he struggles with made me like him all that much more and also want to pull him into a hug and let him know that everything will be ok.

More of the story unfolds and there's more information as to why Alice has become the person she is. I find that after reading this one, I can't hate her as much as I did previously (I'm a bleeding heart and I feel a great deal of pity and sadness for her after learning more of what she went through). But you can't always save people or help those that don't want to be saved. And Alice at this moment does not want to be saved.

This one was longer than the previous book and I liked that one chapter and the epilogue were told from White's POV. I wish there would have been some chapters from Hatter's POV in the previous book.

There are still grammatical errors in this one. It's not a lot but it does make me wonder if the author had it proof read before professionally or just got some friends to do it. It's not distracting to me, but it still makes me wonder.

I still recommend this series and I'm looking forward to the final installment.

Late as a Rabbit continues the darkly enchanting journey through Kendra Moreno’s Wonderland universe, and I it pulled me in from the start. The story is easy to follow and does a great job of standing on its own while still weaving in threads from Book 1.
What stood out most to me was the added depth to the world. I was so excited to be getting the background on the White Rabbit, learning about his past and motivations in ways that really fleshed him out as a character. The expansion on the Red Queen’s history from the first book ties everything together beautifully, creating that perfect balance between familiar and fresh.
I also loved meeting the new characters introduced in this book. Each one brought something unique to the story and helped expand the Wonderland universe in interesting ways. One of the most intriguing aspects for me was Jupiter and the mysterious abilities she seems to possess—powers that no one fully understands yet. The revelation of these abilities adds a sense of anticipation and mystery, making you wonder what they mean for the world and how they’ll shape what’s to come in the last 2 books. It’s a subtle but fascinating thread that deepens the story without taking away from the main plot.
Another element that really stood out was the spice. The book has a perfect blend of sensuality and emotion and it interacts seamlessly, keeping the intimate scenes passionate without overshadowing the plot. The chemistry between the characters feels natural and meaningful, adding a layer of connection that enhances rather than distracts from the story. It fits perfectly with the darker, whimsical tone of the series and keeps that signature Sons of Wonderland intensity alive.
One thing that stood out to me toward the end was how the pacing suddenly picked up, especially once the prophecy came into play. After such a well-crafted, slower build throughout the story, the sudden acceleration made the finale feel slightly rushed. However, I did appreciate how the gradual lead-up allowed for more emotional depth and character development compared to the faster pace of Book 1. However was still satisfying in the end and has me ready to start book 3.
I’d recommend Late as a Rabbit to readers who enjoy fantasy romances with dark undertones, vivid world-building, and a touch of heat. If you’re drawn to reimagined fairytales with emotional depth, magical tension, and just the right amount of spice, this series is a must-read.

“The second comes in the dead of night
After saving the life of Wonderland’s White,
She’ll befriend the creatures of the day
And strip the Red Queen’s immortality away”

This one had such a promising start. I was liking it a lot more than the first one which surprised me because the Hatter is my favourite character in Alice in Wonderland and I didn’t think the White Rabbit would pique my interest more than him, even in a retelling. I was more fond of the female lead compared to the first and overall, till the very end, my affection for her remained more or less the same.

Her “genius” was subpar at best ( honestly, that riddle in the cave, what was there to figure out ? It was so obvious ! ) but I think that’s more to do with the author’s rushed writing and lack of editing and less to do with the authenticity of the character.

The romance developed quite intriguingly at first but then the author, once again, made the mistake of rushing things and ruining the pace of the relationship. Maybe I misunderstood what genre this series belongs to, because it switches from being a well-crafted dark retelling with romantic tension, mystery and adventure to badly written smut within a page.
Basic descriptions are used to convey the male character’s attractiveness, repeatedly making sure the female character mentions chiselled abs and pecs. The first sex scene was so out of place that I thought I accidentally skipped a page or two. It felt more like a hookup than an intimate sexual manifestation of the fated, prophesied connection that it was apparently meant to be.

And don’t get me started on all the growling, snarling and hissing through teeth please 😂
It is okay to make a man moan, dear smut writers, we will still perceive them as the magnificent dominant sexual beasts you want us to believe they are 🙄

Anyways, it kinda ruined the mood for me a little and the anticipation I had for their kindling romance.
Thankfully my curiosity for the Third Son of Wonderland remains intact, so I will be joining Cheshire as he journeys to find the final lady of the triad.

Gut wrenching, heartrending, breath stealing, horrific, humorous and beautiful. This second book in the Sons of Wonderland series shattered my heart, mended it, filled it to overflowing with love and then shattered it - again and again. White-aka the White Rabbit- is possibly my new book boyfriend. What he puts himself through so Jupiter can find him are horrible! He’s so hot and beautifully broken and hot and raw, yet he keeps on and is such a strong being bent on doing the right thing. And did I mention hot?

Our heroine Jupiter. I love Jupiter! She just gets it, right from the start and jumps in with both feet. I love how strong she is, how she doesn’t wait for anyone to save her. I also love how much of a nerd she is and the way she just announces she has to take time to think things through. She’s such a quirky nerd who wears great T shirts and has a great sense of humor! There were moments I truly laughed. She looks at White and just gets him. She understands him. She sees right down to his soul and doesn’t allow him to wallow in self pity. She’s his light in the darkness and he’s just what she’s been looking for.

Through Jupiter, we get more of Evil Alice’s backstory, big shudder! We get to catch up with Hatter and Clara and see how they are doing. Cheshire’s there of course, fading in and out with his typical attitude. His book is next and I can’t wait to see who he’s paired up with. We learn more about the Red Queen and Jupiter’s role in the prophecy. There’s also new characters that are interesting and (hopefully) open to future developments. Kendra did an amazing job creating new characters and new parts of Wonderland to explore. This is a complete story here, but there’s an over-arcing storyline that starts with book 1, Mad as a Hatter, and continues in this book. So get Mad as a Hatter! Go down the rabbit hole! These are must reads!!

This series is definitely a "guilty pleasure" read! After loving the unique "Alice in Wonderland" retelling of MAD AS A HATTER, I was so excited to continue the tale with LATE AS A RABBIT. Jupiter is a scientist with strong moral and ethical convictions. After her sister's death, she moves to California to find adventure, stumbling into an unethical company with creepy (i.e. terrible) coworkers. When the company condones the unethical torture of a unique rabbit, Jupiter steals him away... only to find out he's the White Rabbit, she's part of the prophecy, and they must venture to wonderland to defeat the Red Queen.

I was not as enamored with this one as the first. Jupiter's character was fun, brave, and wonderfully nerdy. She barely batted an eye at the craziness surrounding her. However, I didn't feel her relationship with White was well done. Not only was it "insta-love," but their relationship lacked any emotional depth. Jupiter never even told White about her sister! She was just there to support him, there was very little mutual emotional support, making their relationship feel flat.

The novelty of the story and world was also lost in book 2. The action really only started ~30% into the book and even then it lacked the plot and direction of book 1. It felt like boxes were being checked to get to the conclusion.

LATE AS A RABBIT maintained the creepy atmosphere and the world/conflict are still very unique. The love story and plot was just not captivating this time around. However, I'm definitely looking forward to Cheshire's story! I'm hoping his reluctance regarding the whole "prophecy thing" will give his story more depth.

Although not overly impressive, LATE AS A RABBIT was still a fun and unique read. I just preferred book 1 *shrug*

PopSugar 2017 reading challenge #17

This is one of those instant-love connections that somewhat bothers me. A woman working in a lab takes sympathy on a rabbit that is being experimented on--okay, this is a good start because it shows she has empathy, cares for animals, etc., and of course we all know this is going to be the "White Rabbit." Not much of a twist there. However, she just instantly accepts that there is a Wonderland world, she is meant to be with this rabbit, and she's fated to help save Wonderland. Okay. Yeah. It just kind of instantly happens and no one has any questions or takes a moment to adjust to this new reality.

That leads to my second, but perhaps picky, commentary on the story. The world building is subpar. I know that we're supposed to understand Wonderland (fundamentally) because if we're reading this we (in theory) know some of the different adaptations and images of Wonderland. We're supposed to have that in our head. If you've stumbled upon this book with no background knowledge of Wonderland (unlikely, but not impossible!) then the world building is sorely lacking. Things make sense. Things don't make sense. Things are just kind of brushed off as "this just happens in Wonderland" but with no further explanation. I mean... again, perhaps there will never be a person that hasn't seen/read any version of Wonderland-esque stories reading things but... I still feel like the world could have been better established.

I was bordering 2 and 3 stars and decided to round up. There are some cute smutty scenes. I'm not sure that I mind the fact that the guy has rabbit ears. Whatever. But constantly calling him "Bunny" is just a bit odd to me. It just... we got it with the ears. Don't ask that much of me as a reader, lol.

I loved this book as much as first one, and that is so much. It is, perhaps, even darker and a bit more violent than the previous book, which is to be expected considering Alice and her personality. Moreover, the job where we meet Jupiter is quite unpleasant as well.
The author's beautifully consistent writing and grim, raw style, convey all kinds of emotions, some hard to bear and some beautifully uplifting. And of course, there are some steamy scenes to drown in.
As mentioned previously, the main character is Jupiter, a scientist in a lab of a pharmaceutical company. She is as amazing and determined to save Wonderland as Clara is. And White, oh so beautiful and passionate tortured soul. There is a lot of interaction with the Hatter and Clara, and the author finally reveals the story of Alice, which is as interesting as it is terrifying.
I loved this book immensely and as much as I am looking forward to the next one, I am also incredibly sad to say goodbye to this world and these amazing characters. The author did such an amazing job in retelling Wonderland in her own dark original way, I could not love it more.
The story only makes sense if the books are read in order. The reading order is: Mad as a Hatter (Sons of Wonderland Book 1), Late as a Rabbit (Sons of Wonderland Book 2), and Feral as a Cat (Sons of Wonderland Book 3) coming soon.
