Scandalous Scions #9

Degree of Solitude

Rate this book
The man she once loved is now a monster she doesn’t know.

Catrin and Daniel love each other, but Daniel refused to further their relationship for fear of curtailing Catrin’s intellectual and personal freedom, and dooming her to a life of domestic servitude as his wife.  Yet their lives remain entangled.

When Daniel is shot in the face during a family rescue in Algeria, he brutally severs the ties between them and removes himself to a remote village in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Catrin travels to Wales in a last bid to resolve their differences, but the terrifying man she finds there is not the Daniel she once knew…

This book is the ninth book in the Scandalous Scions series, bringing together the members of three great families, to love and play under the gaze of the Victorian era’s moralistic, straight-laced society.

Reader Advisory: This story contains frank sex scenes and sexual language.

The next book, book nine, in the amazing Scandalous Scions series is “Degree of Solitude.” With each book the series just gets better and better. I was drawn in from the very beginning. What I love the most about Tracy Cooper-Posey’s books, and especially “Degree of Solitude,” is the imagery the amount detail in what is around the characters and the characters themselves. Then the flawless ness of going between the past and present was just that flawless. It drew me on to find out what will happen next. This is Catrin and Daniel’s story. Catrin doesn’t really fallow society’s rules for women, she’s a free thinker, she’s independent, she’s a strong woman who knows what she wants. Then there is Daniel who is struggling. He was was injured in Algeria and since then he struggled on who he is. Catrin decided to fight for Daniel, to be there for him. To take care of everything, especially the household. To learn what happens I believe as a reader you should find out. I highly recommend this book and series and honestly cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest review.

This series keeps getting better and better, I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the end. A mystery plot, an intense love story and an amazing historical novel - great storytelling with historical accuracy is hard to find but this series is a great example of that.
The story revolves around Catrin and Daniel. She is a young woman facing the limitations of her genre in the XIX century. He is a journalist and adventurer that wants to live his life to the fullest. Their letters to each other give Catrin glimpses of the life she cannot have and give Daniel the anchor to a drifting life. But their different circumstances make a life together impossible.
A serious injury (not a spoiler if you are following the series since it is told in a previous volume) changes Daniel’s life and turns him into a recluse. Can Catrin help him? Will he let her? Has the pain turned him into a monster?
A great book not to be missed! And I can’t wait for the next one in the series!

This was an emotional read on so many levels and another well written and absorbing story from the supremely talented Tracy Cooper-Posey!

The main characters in this novel are two intelligent, private and secretive authors Daniel and Catrin who despite their love for each other, time and circumstances for them to be together are never right. When Daniel suffers horrific and painful facial scarring and isolates himself from the great family in a remote house in Wales, Catrin makes the brave decision to go to Wales for one last attempt at a relationship with him.

This book had it all, murder, mystery, unresolved love with well crafted characters that come alive in this engaging series... I would recommend this book to any readers who enjoys a well written historical romance.

This book is part of the Scandalous Scions series but can be read as a standalone story.

True Love is Best Revealed in Adversity!!

This is a brilliant story of the journey of the relationship between Catrin and Daniel. Daniel is wounded and is in constant pain from his disfiguring facial wound. He moves to a remote area of Wales to stay away from friends and family. Catrin invades the household and begins to put basic matters to right – buying coal, hiring more staff.

Catrin does not fit the traditional role of a woman in early England. She is highly intelligent but cannot own land or write contracts. Society will not permit it. The reader is brought into this earlier time and feels as though they are there. Add in a brutal death and some additional secrets and you will be on the edge of your seat till the last page is turned.

One of the best series I have ever read.

An Epic Love Story:
The ninth book of a wonderful series that I can't get enough of.
An all-encompassing cast of characters plus creative writing brings another dynamic story of this family into my reading enjoyment. This is an extremely emotional love story that teaches us that fighting for love can be worth every moment.
This story has a horrifying mystery to solve, some heartfelt confessions, many shocking moments, with lots of fun banter between Catrin and Daniel to bring us to a very wonderful ending,
No dull moments. This can be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed every page and look forward to the next in the series #10 Ashes of Pride.

Tracy’s attention to detail in this, and all of her stories, is what keeps bringing me back. The clothes, the houses, the issues of the day (like doctors washing their hands and instruments), attitudes (women in society), etc. are carefully, and accurately, described while immersing you in her world.
For example, I really loved the use of the carnyx. I felt like I was with the Baskervilles during this part.
The characters, the tone of the story, the attention to detail, all contribute to a wonderful book.

Successful!

As expected from this author you will read another excellent story. I love the way the 3 great families come together again. As I was a huge fan of Seth & Natasha's book it is a pleasant surprise to see Seth still plays a big role in the story lines. Each book in this series is different and unique in its own way. I don't feel like I am always reading the same book with just the names changing. I again thank this author for sharing her gift with the rest of us. Enjoy the read!

Another amazing story in the Scandalous Scions series. Our main characters, Catrin and Daniel, have been in love with each other for a long time, just took them a while to realize it. They finally figure it out, but Daniel turns her away. But Catrin decides she's not going to give up on being together, no matter how much time passes or the problems they each encounter. At times the problems seem insurmountable. I'm trying not to give you spoilers, so go and pick up this book from this awesome series.

A lovely story where true love never fails. The beginning is a bit abrupt (Who really is Catrin? Why is it okay for her to just show up and take over?) There is a tormented male protagonist, a beautiful heroine, and a mysterious murder upon the hills. The plot is rather scattered but it all comes together in the end. Not as tightly knit as most of Tracy Cooper Posey’s tales.

Full

This historical romance with its scarred hero and competent heroine had me reading this in one day.
The mystery and frequent views of the past were a little frustrating and made this story more complicated than it needed to be.
I was surprised by the villains identity.

This series is wonderful to read. The continuation of all the characters allows you to get to know all the little people from previous books. It makes a complete story.
This story can be read as a stand alone story.
Highly recommended.

I have adored every book in the Scandalous Scions series but Degree of Solitude just became my favorite. I am a sucker for scarred and brooding men, Beauty and the Beast being a favorite trope of mine and it was worked into this story so well. Catrin and Daniel’s story secretly began while the rest of the family were finding their loves so we got to go back and have the missing pieces filled in we didn’t even know were missing...similar to Jack and Jenny’s story...but what was different about this book was the murder mystery aspect, which was very entertaining and kept me guessing until the big reveal.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
