The Lost Lady

Rate this book
A Woman Lost in Time...
Luveday is a researcher and spends most of her time behind a desk or a book. When she is transported to Anora, another world that resembles medieval England, she is at a loss, but she's smart enough to know that a woman on her own has little chances of survival and fewer rights. She finds herself rescued by a knight on his way home to Lander's Keep, and works to make herself indispensable to the castle and it's absent Lord, hoping that she won't be thrown out into the cold before she can find a way home.

The King's Champion...
Lord Iain De Lane returns home to find his ancestral castle, long neglected, has been transformed and a mysterious lady is responsible. His elderly Aunt, Lady Emmalyn and young Ellie, sing her praises, in fact the whole castle and village have nothing but good to say about her, but the last thing Iain needs is another woman in his life. Especially since, his fiancé, Lady Christabel, has taken up residence unexpectedly, and despite the improvements, they are both finding out that a court favorite is not the proper wife for a northern lord. Still, Iain is locked into a betrothal sanctioned by the King, and he needs the coin to keep his people fed. No matter how appealing Lady Luveday may seem in comparison, he could never choose the penniless noblewoman.

As Luveday grows to be more to Iain and his people, it becomes clear that the Lord of the Keep has made a serious mistake in choosing a bride. When the wedding draws near, and the lines between Lord and Lady blur, will Iain follow his heart and marry her or will Luveday need to make a hard choice of her own, and leave the place she loves or risk becoming more than a lost lady, but a fallen one?

I didn't give this book a star rating because I struggled with what to give. The book was riddled with grammatical errors, mostly poor word choices -- "shutter" instead of "shudder" and "wary" instead of "weary" were two errors that popped up repeatedly. The first 40% of the book didn't have that many, but then there were more and more as if the editor just quit halfway through the job. This normally would have resulted in an automatic one- or two-star rating from me, except . . .

. . . except that the story was so engaging. It fell into one of my favorite categories that I've heard referred to as "competence porn". Despite how frightened or upset our heroine Luveday may have been in certain situations, she held it together and got the job done. I know that some people hate a heroine who always prevails but that kind of story makes for relaxing escapist fare for me. It was also easier for me to overlook because Luveday did not time travel to actual medieval England but a fantasy land that resembles it.

As much as I enjoyed this story, I don't think I can recommend it unless the author uploads a corrected version of the ebook. Hey, it happens! So if you are reading this several months after I posted it and like a story where a modern girl is transported to the land of knights and fairy princesses and political intrigue, look for an updated version of the ebook and give it a try.

I gave this book three stars because the story appealed to me and had good pacing. However it's got problems. It has a mixed bag of uncorrected errors on every page. By the end of the story, it seemed that every sentence had something wrong with it. Maybe that was just me. I was exhausted with trying to make sense of what I was reading.

If the author is reading this, PLEASE find an editor or a couple of beta readers. You need them.

Still trying to work out if this is time travel (which is difficult as Anora doesn’t really exist) or an alternate reality/dimension. I think I’m going to settle on another dimension and assume that when Luveday mentions back in time, it just means she doesn’t know.

And I really hate the name “Luveday”!!

The story was ok, but by the end the FMH seemed to be able to do everything with ease and everyone loved her 🙄

There were spelling/grammatical errors but I found it more jarring when I would read something and felt that I’d missed part of the story - as though it had been edited but the reference to the missing part had been left in. There were also a couple of characters that had the same first name which I found confusing when they appeared later in the story and I couldn’t work out which one it was.

It may seem that I didn’t enjoy this book, I did, but it’s not one that I would read again.

I couldn’t put this book down. It was very emotional 🥹 at times with the relationship between the characters and I really liked it.

Review of The Lost Lady

I chose this rating because, though the theme of the story is good, the characters need some fleshing out and the background needs some more details. I would have enjoyed the book mid if there had not been so many typos, misspelled words, words used out of context, and punctuation errors. There was no attenuation given to paragraph construction, so there were times I didn't know who was saying what to whom! At at least to places it seemed there are paragraphs or even pages missing and I was totally lost for a while. Ms. Brown has a fertile mind, but her command of English is lacking---a lot.

Riddled with spelling and grammatical errors

Liked the book but was clinching at the almost constant errors. Please have your books professionally edited. I like your work but there were hundreds of errors.

I'm still not quite done with the book. While the story itself is very good, I continue to come across mistakes in English and in grammar that just shock me senseless. Part of a sentence--she had pieced together post humorously (after a woman had died). What the heck! Humorously is funny. It does not pertain to death.

The author makes constant mistakes like this in grammar, pale for pail. She uses it's as a possessive. It's is a conjunction for IT IS! PERIOD! There are so many mistakes in this book, particularly in the last 30%, not the last 20% as I previously said. I had my percentages mixed up. This is why it's taking me so long to get through the last part--this and the flu. Every other sentence contains another outrage against the English language. I realize as languages go it's in a big pain, but if one wishes to be a writer, it's on them to write correctly! OR HAVE SOMEONE EDIT YOUR BOOK!

This must surely have been self-published by someone with a good imagination but bad English skills. I would suggest a remedial course in English--or do a lot of reading. I read around 300 books a year and have been reading sci-fi since I was 9, other adult novels since I was 7. Constant reading gives you good writing skills.

We all daydream imagining "what if" at times so tag along as the story unfolds. Luveday is a unmarried Personal Assistant to a California business CEO and accompanies him to a conference on the East coast. While on a break she visits a Celtic Festival, purchasing a few items for her family back home while sampling some refreshments. She sits enjoying the beautiful day, and in the blink of an eye finds herself in a strange forest sitting on a large tree root beside a dirt path. As she takes stock of her situation she hears a voice in song and shortly, around a bend, a knight in armor appears astride his warhorse. Inquiring on her situation he decides to pull her up on the horse and take her to his Lord's castle for safety. There she is befriended by the Lord's aunt and she quickly realizes that she must make herself useful in order to remain protected. The story unfolds, with many adventures, as she establishes herself. I won't spoil this story for you as I urge you to read it for your pleasure. You won't be disappointed.

Engaging Tale terrible editing

I really enjoyed this story. The tale was captivating but the editing is so terrible it is very distracting and sometimes painful to read. "Ellie" is sometimes spelled "Elli," the word "marry" is used when it should be "merry." Not to be picky, but even "new" was used twice when it should have been "knew." There are typos in EVERY paragraph. It actually gets worse as the book goes on to the point where you have to reread a sentence to get the intended meaning.
Now, with that off my chest, I really did like the story and stayed up way too late reading it. The one on-screen love scene makes an otherwise clean romance a little less than and almost didn't fit the tone of the rest of the adventure. Brown has crafted some very likeable characters and created an interesting world. I wouldn't mind a sequel, but please, hire a competent editor.

Wonderful story with delightful characters

Even though there are an amazing number of grammatical errors I still believe this book deserves a five star rating. The story is so good. The plot so believable. The character development as good as it gets. I would be happy to proof this author's books should she so desire. Her stories are so good they deserve to have their presentation be complete and professional. This is one of the best time travel books I've read. I typically read at least four bookshelf week. So I consider myself well able to judge quality. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Nice book about time displacement

The book would've gotten 5 stars if not for the last half of the book. The bad, misused words, misspelling, and just weird editing errors! The good, it's a really good book about a lady from now going back to yesteryear. How she has to survive, thrive, and of course, fall in love. The book is really entertaining and fun read. If you like time travel books it's a good one, even with all the distractions of the poor editing. Get it you won't be disappointed!

Warning about overly graphic sex scene

What an interesting read. Although the premise of the main character having, virtually, no flaws so that all she touches has amazing results, the story is good. The R rated sex scene strikes me as being an after thought inclusion. It was completely unnecessary to be so graphic and is the only reason I would not recommend this book to just anyone without a warning.

Loveday didn't interest me at all. She was a women lost in time and found herself in medieval castle/time period. She didn't ever think that her mannerisms or behavior might cause people to think of her as a witch with disastrous consequences. Nope, she goes on changing her surroundings as if she is oblivious of how society at the time was and will think of her. No sense of self preservation or simply put no common sense at all.

I barely made it through this. It dragged on and on and on…! The first part was a solid 3 stars with a competent FMC and decent storyline. Unfortunately, the second part was wholly unnecessary and was riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes, even more so than the first part which is really saying something.

Of all the many, many errors, I think my favorite was the author using “courtesans” instead of “courtiers”. She does this every time lol

This was an outstanding novel

This was an epic book that constantly engaged the reader. The characters were dimensional with complex emotions and connections. I absolutely adored Luv as a main protagonist. She was truly a respectable lady whom I rooted for the entire novel.
The main love interest wasn't my preference and I believe Luv could have done better, however, I loved her so much the I was happy to see her happily ever after regardless of who she chose.

It could have been perfect

What can I say, I was really getting into this story.
The storyline was right up my alley, then, HORRORS I started to notice the typos!
At first they were sporadic but then they became so frequent that they seriously interfered with the story. Does no one proof read anymore?
I think I will try another book by this author but please fix this problem!

Story is a 4

I loved the story but the lack of editing kept tossing me out. Running spell check isn't enough when there are multiple forms of a word. It seemed there was the wrong homonym on almost every page and tired and tried don't sound alike. If the author has this edited I would definitely read again for the story.

Almost

This could have been a great book, the author should be ashamed of the many, many, many, many errors. You had to constantly guess at words and their meaning.
Spellchecker would have helped.
The errors were downright disrespectful of an author expecting readers to pay to read this, although the storyline was good.

Great Read

I discovered this book by accident but what a treasure. While being a love story it is more. A woman discovers her own worth taking on challenge after challenge but staying true to herself even when in love. The way Ms. Brown writes puts the reader in the scene. I hope she write many more books.

I seriously haven't read a book that captivated me more in a long time. From the beginning to the end. This is one book that I will buy for sure & put in my "FAVORITES" library. My heart is filled with contentment...

Unforgettable read

A book that I couldn't out down. The story line flowed and answered all mysteries within. The only downfall was the spelling and editing. The last few chapters were error ridden. I would have given the book a higher rating of it hadn't been for that.

While I enjoyed the story....

I was completely distracted by all of the spelling and grammatical errors. Didn't anyone read this book before it was published? I am used to a few errors but this was by far the most I have ever seen in a book.

Needs proof reading!!!!

The plot is very engaging, however the last half of this book is full of misspellings, or grammar, and improper tenses made reading the story very difficult! There was no proofing for the book, which is a shame!

Not your same heroin

When I first started reading this I thought it was ripoff going of Lina Potter's book . It has similar elements but I enjoyed the main character so much more. The book needs a good grammar check but I gave it 5 stars because the story was that good.

Loved this one!

Very good story. Well written. I had a hard time putting this one down--but duty doesn't always understand that!
I sort of wished for a sequel but I don't think there is a need for one.

Good time traveling novel.

This book had good character development and interesting medieval experiences. It may seem to drag in places, but it is definitely worth reading and it is a complete, stand alone novel.
