Squad mates, best friends, and fighting to survive in the middle of an alien invasion. Can she make one stubborn alpha male soldier see her as something else?

Sienna Rossi has always been a mix of contradictions. She loves ice cream, likes cooking, and is skilled at taking down aliens with her squad. Sweet and tough, soldier and woman, most people can't seem to make sense of her...even the loving family she lost in the invasion and especially men. One man accepts her as she is, her best friend Theron. But the big, silent, muscled soldier has her firmly in the 'friends' zone...except that Sienna knows he wants her, and she's determined to claim the stubborn man as hers.

Theron Wade lives to fight aliens. They killed his parents, his foster siblings, and his fellow Rangers. Now he has a new team--the tough, mostly-female Squad Nine. But one certain female haunts his dreams and stars in his darkest fantasies. Sienna is his sunshine in the darkness. He wants to her to be happy...and he knows that would never be with a man like him. A man with darker, rougher tastes that would shock her.

As Squad Nine works to track and destroy a dangerous alien device, best friends collide. Theron introduces Sienna to a world of rough, edgy passion that she craves. But as a mission goes off track, the two of them will risk everything for love, for their lives, and to save the world.

Note to readers: This sci fi romance contains a lot of action (think climbing shattered skyscrapers and daring rescue missions), tough warriors (the kickass ladies of Squad Nine and the badasses of Hell Squad) and a steamy romance (lots of edgy sexy times between a quiet, stubborn soldier and his tenacious best friend). So if you like it fast, and gritty, and sexy, this is for you!

Includes a sneak peek at Hemi (Hell Squad #13) and a preview of Gladiator, first book in Galactic Gladiators

Theron and Sienna are friends, but he's wanted her for quite a while and she, after hearing him in private now realises that. Theron is probably the only one of these guys who flirted with another woman deliberately in front of his h. He thinks his needs are too much for Sienna despite her telling him she likes rough sex. So when she's telling him for the second time that they could be good together and he starts with all his reasons why not I quit. I really dont have time for that so on to the next.

This is one of those series (like BBB :) ) that I keep reading out of habit! LOL

When you need a short, hot, alien-battling book this is a right one! :)

Nothing overly complicated, but still nice enough!

It's always fun to see what Hell Squad are up to and this time the author has taken a slight trip not quite to the dark side but certainly somewhere a little dirty that's also hot and funny. Theron is rough , tough and almost distant and yet sweet, little Sienna finds herself increasing aware of him. Ok so she's firmly in the friend zone but tempting him to play sure seems like a good idea to her! Yet Theron pushes back and it's not exactly what Sienna hopes for but is this team member down and out? That's a hell no!
I have to admire the pairing here as Theron is exactly how I imagine a hardened soldier. Yes he joins in with his team but there's a sadness , a sense of loss if you like that sometimes makes him a little distant. Sienna is underestimated by so many and it's almost as if the world wants to put her in a box and tie a ribbon on it! Being petite and feminine is a bit of a bug bear but this little lady can handle herself and a carbine to boot! So when it's decided to try to take out the invading aliens latest weapon Squad Nine are up and ready for it but things don't quite go to plan leaving Theron and Sienna separated from their team and facing a danger that no one could have predicted.
I do enjoy this series with its crazy mixture of action, sci fi and hot romance and wonder where the author gets her insane ideas from. Maybe living in Australia , under that hot sun has done something to her and certainly she frequently uses locations that she clearly knows. All this adds colour to her stories but it's the adventures and dire situations her characters find themselves in that keeps me reading. If honest these books are a little shorter than I prefer and in this one there's so much happening at the end that it just felt too pat and perhaps a tad rushed. One thing I can guarantee is there plenty for the couple to overcome but then again that's what I expect. Plus the Berserkers are coming !
I received an advance copy that I've voluntarily read and these comments are I believe a fair review

This book was ok but I found myself tiring of the resistance on the hero's part. I liked that he and the heroine had a solid friendship though.

I must admit, I have skipped around in this series, so perhaps that is what prevented me from feeling overly sympathetic towards Theron??

I will probably still check out other books in this series.

I kinda feel like I say this every book in this series, but it's so true I can't stop myself. THINGS ARE HAPPENING. THINGS! The survivors are learning more about the vague Gizzida plot they uncovered in previous books and THINGS LOOK BAD.

Not terrible, mind you, because the Squads don't let things like world-ending alien plans keep them down for long. But they still look bad.

Anywho. This book isn't all about the alien baddies and their plan for the total annihilation of the human race. Nope. There's also some gritty romance brewing between big, silent Theron and perky Sienna. He thinks she deserves better than him, she's determined to show him that he's PERFECT for her even if she has to smack him over the head with a lead pipe in the library. (Just kidding about that part. There were neither libraries nor lead pipes. Well, unless you count the one Theron's carrying around in his pants. HA! Sorry. I make myself laugh sometimes.)

All lead pipe jokes aside, those two were sweet together. Theron might have a few knee-jerk caveman tendencies, but Sienna's not afraid to point out those moments when they come. And she's more than capable of holding her own against him.

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but I have to admit I've been mighty entertained by the Berserkers (EEE!!!!) and their rough and tumble ways. I can't wait to see the chaotic mayhem that comes from them falling for their special someone. I'm ready and willing. Let's do this!

Series: Hell Squad #12
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Squad mates and best friends, Theron Wade and Sienna Rossi fight together to survive and take down the aliens. Sienna is a mixture of contradictions. She is sweet, tough, a soldier and a woman. The only person who accepts all sides of her is her best friend Theron. While she knows Theron wants her he keeps her in the friend zone. While a mission to track the new alien weapon goes off track these two finally admit their feelings, and save the world.

I am loving all the new development with the alien invasion and the constant struggle of the humans to get ahead of the aliens to defeat them. Also, the new alien creature that was introduced in this book sounds terrifying and freaks me out.

Sienna is one tough cookie who is also in touch with her feminine side. She likes nice things, cooking, etc. but can also take down an enemy. I really love her. Hackett does an amazing job at creating tough heroines. Another thing I loved about Sienna was her determination to break through Theron’s barriers and make him act on his feelings. Sienna is just a great mixture of sweet and toughness, and is perfect for Theron.

“She liked colored sprinkles on her ice cream, and could also kill a man in about thirty different ways.”

Theorn had a rough past. He was in the foster care system and the military so he feels he is not good enough for Sienna. He repeatedly pushes Sienna away because of his darker tastes in the bedroom. Sienna quickly makes him realize she is more than willing to take on his darker side. I loved seeing Sienna explore Theron’s darker side and discover her own likes.

“She was his sprinkle-coated badass…”

Overall, this was another nonstop adventure and I cannot wait for the next book, which is the first Berserker one!!

Trigger warnings: death of family referenced; consensual non-consent

Dream Lover💓

Theron🐺🍌🌋🔥👋, huge💪, serious, Hell Squad warrior🔫🔪, is a dream lover in the eyes of his partner, Sienna. For a long time they were just soldier partners in the endless fight against the alien Raptors, but lately Sienna💋🔫🔪 has been thinking she wants his hard sexy body because in the alien infested 🌎world they now live in, tomorrow may never come. They could be killed on any mission, even with new technology all the time, they are still venerable to Raptor attack every time they leave the Enclave.
Sienna💋🔪🔫 must chip away at Theron's🐺🍌🌋🔪🔫 granite like resolve. He was a son of a prostitute, and thinks he isn't good enough for her. He also thinks he is too big💪, too rough👋, too dangerous🔪🔫. Well, he is pretty dangerous🔫🔪, but Sienna💋🔪🔫 doesn't care, in fact she wants all the rough action in the sack👋🍌🌋 he can give her. She wants him! She wants to feel everything👋👋, to try everything! Great xxx semi rough play scenes.
Love💓 and live🍌🌋🔥 like there is no tomorrow! Because there probably isn't!

This could be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the series in order. Every story in this series is a unique romance with a happily ever after for the main characters, but each book has all the wonderful elements that readers can expect from Anna Hackett. There is always action, aliens, suspense, humor, steamy passion, and the desire for humans to survive against seemingly insurmountable odds. The heroines are strong and never TSTL (too stupid to live) and the heroes are strong and hot enough to burn! Each story is builds on the overall war against the aliens who have invaded earth, but the ending of each story leaves the reader satisfied.

THERON (Hell Squad #12) is an action packed story that keep the pages turning and the reader on the edge of their seat. Within the story we get to revisit some previous characters, meet some new ones and find out just how bad the bad guys are. This is a great series that just gets better with each installment.
CAUTION: Theron and Sienna's story may cause your ereader to experience melt down with plenty of action and some very steamy scenes. You have been warned.
Enjoy!

UPDATE:
I just completed “His Light in the Darkness” a Hell Squad Short Story by Anna that fits sequentially between the books THERON and HEMI of the HELL SQUAD series. The Short Story is available exclusively through the author’s website. It was a wonderful peak at lighter times for these fierce fighters. ❤️

ORIGINAL POST:
THERON, #12 is a fast moving, hope-filled dystopian novel with a lot of action, suspense, plenty of Steamy scenes of intimacy and a HFN (dystopian)/HEA. I purchased and listened to the audio version nicely read by Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook. THERON is a Friends to More trope novel.

MY RATING GUIDE: 4 Stars. I am enjoying this series with the Crazy action scenes and creative monsters.
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I enjoyed this; 4= I LIKED THIS A LOT; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

THERON, #12 ~
Sienna Rossi, a former Coalition military soldier, is now a member of fighting Squad 9, a determined and successful squad formed since the invasion consisting mostly of trained and experienced military women. Theron Wade, a former Army Ranger, is one of the two men in Squad 9. He is also Sienna’s partner and best friend since the alien invasion. During the alien’s invasion Theron witnessed the deaths of his adopted family members and his Ranger buddies. Sienna comes from a large and extended Italian family and wonders if anyone she knows in Italy has survived the attack. Her former fellow soldiers were all killed.

THERON continues with Squad9 being sent on several connected missions into enemy territory to investigate and destroy the aliens newest “orb” technology which has proven capable of drawing and ensnaring hundreds of humans at a time. Sienna & Theron become separated from their squad and while wondering if their mission will be successful or if they’ll even survive, their relationship develops depth and new dimensions.

Comments ~
1) I enjoyed the suspense and action scenes in THERON which starts off pretty fast. The characters (Theron & Sienna) know each other well and when put into an extreme Proximity-Danger situation, understand their total trust in each other will determine whether or not they survive and their mission succeed.
The latter books in the Hell Squad series almost remind me of serials in a mini-series or individual episodes in a television series - which doesn’t have to be a bad thing - just advising readers the whole story arc is slow (and building in tension) through to the end of the series.
2) Both Theron and Sienna were characters I could understand, admire for their resilience, dedication, capabilities and also like. I wanted them to survive their mission and gain their much deserved HEA/HFN (dystopian).
3) Anna Hackett books > I like that the bad guys get whooped and hopefully destroyed in the end. Good guys have solidified friendships and find love and acceptance.
4) THERON is a dystopian novel. Readers who are willing to let go of reality, logical thinking, scientific facts and just settle in for the ride will find the most enjoyment in this series.
5) The Hell Squad books are very fast reading (THERON was a 3.5-4hr audio at my listening speed), great for a few hours of escape or to decompress after work. I am finding the story arc a captivating journey.
6) Although THERON might be read as a standalone title, I really don’t recommend it at this point. THERON is the 12th book in a 20 bk series with an ongoing story arc. A lot of continuity and character development will be missed starting with THERON. I prefer reading Anna Hackett’s series starting with book one and continuing through the series in order.
7) I thought the reading by Kafer and Cook was well done. They were challenged with various accents (Russian and English), as well as the intimacy scenes, which must have been fun for them. ;) (I purchased nearly the entire audio series when they went on Sale).
8) Overall, I am enjoying this series and recommend it to readers who enjoy:
*Action/Adventure novels (and are okay with a number of detailed steamy intimacy scenes).
*Dystopian Romance novels (and above).
*Escape fiction, such as Fantasy and Space Opera (and above).
*Quick reading romance novels to insert between other genres and tropes (and are okay with light dystopian settings and steamy scenes).
*Imperfect alpha-type male characters who commit 100%+ to the woman they love and appreciate complicated, authentic, resilient women

READER CAUTION ~
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. An intimacy scene begins about 1/2 way in the book. The characters knew each other previously.
VIOLENCE - Yes. Think a dystopian world with marauding alien.

As always, I would prefer, if the author put a hint aka warning on the back cover or here at Goodreads.

Trigger warning: spanking, D/s, role-playing, BDSM

What's so difficult to write it down...esp. if it helps to prevent receiving bad reviews...?!

But that's not the sole reason I gave this book a bad review. I was thinking about giving it 2 stars, but Goodreads rating for 2 star is "it was ok", which it definitely wasn't. At least for me.

I couldn't just find my way into the story, because of the bad relationship that is shown in this book.

Sienna is a fun character and I was looking forward to reading her story. She's feisty, courageous and sparkling...and a tough, no-nonsense soldier.
Unfortunately, she became a different person, only to please Theron and his needs, just to be seen by him as a woman.
Nope, no other human being is worth changing your personality for and to make yourself into something you aren't. You are who you are! And if the other person can't except that...well, I think you know how that sentence ends.

Theron, well he behaved like an oversexed asshole. In the former books he sounded like an interesting person. Calm, patient - someone you could depend on...in this book the author gave him dark past and dark sexual cravings...let's just say it ruined a good book and a good previous character development, at least for me.
There were parts of this story where he came of as a domineering asshole and then again as someone who was in desperate need of a good psychotherapy, because of "mommy-issues";

I'll never understand how so many authors mix these unresolved issues with BDSM and make it sound as if BDSM is the only solution for a person with a dark past. NOPE! Just NOPE!
I'm fairly sure that BDSM isn't a concept you turn to, to forget your past or to practice it because of unresolved issues. That will probably lead to a world of hurt and pain.

It was the story of Sienna’s life. Men couldn’t make sense of her because she was a pretty woman and a soldier; they just couldn’t accept her as both. Sienna looked at Theron, the man she had depended on and trusted with her life for the last 18-months. Theron is not acting like his usual self; there is something between them, something he is ignoring and something she cannot resist. Stubborn Theron hadn’t seen anything yet, but his unshakable values and sense of right and wrong is what Sienna likes about him and she wants nothing more than to make him happy. Did she have an inner bad girl after all? Theron had learned quickly in life to be honest with himself. There were so many reasons Theron couldn’t get involved with Sienna; she is his squad mate, best friend, sweet and kind and light; not like him. Though a talkative, easy going man, Theron has darker tastes that he is sure will leave Sienna horrified, so he has no intention of ruining their friendship or their working relationship. But Sienna is nothing but persistence and is determined to wear down Theron’s resolve. Squad Nine are lured to a large oura globe in the Blue Mountains, but it is merely a decoy to get them off the real trail. When an ally, Gaz’da, warns that the Gizzada are building a large oura on the top floor of the Winton Tower, their mission is to destroy the oura and gather more intel on the secret weapon. What the Squad witness is beyond comprehension as they realise the Gizzada no longer need their genesis tanks. The mission throughout is thwart with continual danger and Theron is conflicted; all he thinks about is protecting Sienna and she begins to wonder if he is like all the other men she has known; does he really know her after all? This was an excellent, well-written, intriguing story that had lots to offer the reader in terms of romance and action. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and would have no hesitation in recommending it. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Wow! I didn't think it was possible but Anna Hackett has done it again. THERON is the 12th book in the Hell Squad series and, in my opinion, it's the best one so far. I say so far, because Anna has a way of making each book better than the one prior. However, at this moment I can't imagine another book being better than this one.

Theron Wade and Sierra Rossi are squad mates and best friends, however both of them secretly (or not so secretly) lust after each other. Sierra wants to become more intimate with Theron, however he stubbornly believes that he is no good for her. Theron believes that his dark sexual needs are too rough for Sierra, however Sierra is very willing to explore the same sexual urges that Theron has. When Theron and Sienna finally get together, there are fireworks! The sex scenes between them are sooo hot (much hotter than previous Hell Squad books) that I could swear my kindle was smokin'...lol. But romance isn't the only thing happening in THERON. The book continues advancing the overarching storyline of the Gizzida aliens. There is plenty of intrigue and heart pounding action as the squads continue to battle the Gizzida and attempt to discover what the aliens are up to. In THERON, Anna also provides updates on the lives of other Hell Squad members, introduces some new and very interesting characters (hello Squad Three!!) and gives hints as to what the future holds for some new and current Hell Squad characters.

THERON is a wonderful addition to the Hell Squad series. It surpassed any and all expectations I had for it. I loved reading it so much that I bought my own copy even after reading it for free with Kindle Unlimited. I would definitely recommend this book, series and author to any and everyone!

Sienna won’t take NO from her man
Theron thinks he has the upper hand and that he can push away Sienna’s feelings, but he’s wrong. Sienna wants Theron but thinks her feelings are one-sided until she sees and hears for herself that Theron wants her, too. Now, nothing would stop her from making this big lug hers.
Sienna Rossi was part of a large, wonderful, loving Italian family in Rome. They were surprised when their little Sienna became a warrior instead of a restaurateur. But that was a million years ago…when living was safe and easy. Theron Wade had a rough start in life, which corrupted his self-worth. He focuses too much on those first 5 years when he should be content with his wonderful, adopted parents and the house full of much-loved foster brothers and sisters.
Now, after the alien invasion, these two are a huge part of Squad 9. This team is made up of mostly badass women, leader Roth and Theron being the only males. No matter, they are super-soldiers in every way. The alien Gizzida are tired of fighting humans; now, they’ve switched to eliminating humanity and are creating more horrific tools to this end.
Meanwhile, back at the Enclave, Sienna is trying to prove to Theron that she is not some fragile vanilla girl but is tough and wants it rough. These two are about to combust. It's a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Love Hell Squad and am rereading the entire series. Linda

Anna Hackett has another great read in the Hell Squad series with Theron. Theron Wade is the classic loner who feels his past and the bloodline of his birth parents have relegated him to being unworthy of being loved. He loves Sienna Rossi from a distance but she and Theron are partners in Squad 9. His goal is to protect her and others in the squad and in Sanctuary. A Ranger when the aliens invaded, Theron had witnessed the death of his foster parents and siblings and his fellow Rangers when the invasion happened; now he fights without mercy trying to come to terms with his failure to protect all those he loved.

Sienna Rossi grew up in a large loving Italian family; loved, cherished and spoiled. She marched to her own drummer and learned skills designed to protect others and joined the military. Her idea of fun was to scale the highest peak via the toughest face. Scaling a building was just a test of he skills. She has her eye set on Theron...and she doesn't give up.

Trying to protect Sanctuary, Sienna, Theron and Squad 9 go into danger without hesitation and the alien invaders need to pack up and go home because Squad 9 doesn't take prisoners.

‘In the aftermath of a deadly alien invasion, a band of survivors fights on… Join Marcus Steele and the toughest commando team fighting for humanity’s survival—Hell Squad. Battle-hardened soldiers, men and women who never give up. Heroes will rise…when they have someone to live for.’

Theron and Sienna
Theron is the twelfth book in the Hell Squad series by Anna Hackett. This an adrenaline-charged blend of post-apocalyptic action, sizzling romance, and gritty survival. Set in a world devastated by a brutal alien invasion, the series follows an elite commando team - Hell Squad - as they fight to protect humanity’s last strongholds while also navigating love, loss, and loyalty.
Each book focuses on a different member of the squad, giving us readers a fresh romance each time, while advancing the overarching war against the alien invaders.
If you enjoy military sci-fi with a strong romantic core, then Hell Squad delivers a thrilling ride from start to finish - equal parts heart-pounding and heartwarming.
Happy Reading…

While I really really adore Anna Hackett's work, I was very nervous about reading this book.
To be honest BDSM is very very complicated and difficult to write well, especially to people like me, who have a difficult time with pain play and certain role-play scenarios. Done wrong it's ugly, and leaves a very bad feeling after the story is done.
I'm glad to say AH managed to be one of the very few who wrote it well. She managed to incorporate it into the story without damaging the romance and turning it too much into Erotica or making it the focal point of the plot.
Even more surprising I still liked Theron by the end of it, which for me is normally iffy with Dom's.

I can not wait for Cam's book, much as I liked this one AM writes take no shit in the sack or out kick ass h's best!!

What I liked:
The action/adventure scenes are excellent, even for Hackett's standards. Ziplines and choppers, building infiltrations, climbing...it's especially entertaining. The leads are pretty developed for a short read with this much action. Their chemistry is good whether they are comforting each other, doing the mattress dance, or working together in their squad.
What I didn't:
The good guys have been stalled for a bloody long time in this series, and they're still on the defensive, reacting to things the Gizzida do. It's pretty wearing, because the rest of the tone isn't so grim (nobody we care about kicks it or is permanently maimed in this series) so it just feels predictable. What will the monsters throw at the humans this week? How will the humans solve it? There are bits of the bigger agenda around, but we still don't know much more than we did in book 4. I found this frustrating- it feels like treading water.

I received a review copy.

Having lost everyone he cared about when the Gizzida invaded, Theron Blake fights his attraction to squad mate and best friend Sienna Rossi, not wanting to let her too close. Sienna isn't willing to let past losses get in her way of happiness, but the Gizzida's latest weapon might put everything in jeopardy. On a mission to gain intelligence as well as destroy a mind control device, Theron and Sienna encounter big problems, not the least of which finds them in the middle of a whole horde of Gizzida with no easy way out. Will they be able to get out of it and find their HEA?

I love anything Anna Hackett puts out, and this is no exception. Great story, characters, and steam.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I love this series

This series was a random find and ive been hooked since. I thoroughly enjoy the storyline and the characters. Each book helps create a picture of what has occurred, further develops characters, pulls you into the mystery about what is to happen next, and of course laces it with romance. Theron had an interesting back ground and i kind of wanted to know a little bit more however what was provided helped you understand a bit about his personality. The leading ladies tough girly girl persona was definitely played up a bit. i was often thinking just bop some sense into him because there was of course agnst (eye roll) about pursing a relationship. Cant wait for Hemi's story

Nail biting read!!

Friends to lovers story in a world fraught with danger. Theron, the emotionally scarred soldier and the pretty Italian ' princess ' Sienna, who hates to be treated as a princess. She is a soldier through and through. Only Theron, her friend and partner in battle appreciates it. But the relationship is changing and Theron is finding it hard to see Sienna as just friend and flow soldier. Their mission will and does put them in deadly danger. See what happens to these two deadly protagonists. Though some of these stories are formulaic, you cannot help but enjoy the ride. Great read!!

good series, bad book - rape role play, really?

I liked Theron and Sienna more in the other books in the series than in their own book. The camaraderie and dynamic was gone quickly and replaced by some cringy begging from Sienna and odd reluctance from Theron that we never really get to understand… apparently he has bad blood from a birth mother? There was some action and creativity that makes this series so great, including a new alien beast. But I was really bothered by the rape role plays. They are both consenting adults and there was no actual pain involved, but it still really disgusted me that they were turned on by pretending to rape someone 🤮.

Sierra Rossi is a woman of many talents, skills, moods, likes and dislikes…which may or may not explain her attraction to Team 9 squad mate, Theron Wade may not have been all her idea but why ask why? Theron’s resisted the delicate Sierra’s obvious overtures; he’s certain he’ll ruin any relationship that could develop which could affect their work but he’s decided he’s too much man for little ole her but Sierra’s definitely harder to resist every day. Yes, the Gizzida are there and causing mischief as usual but with this darker than usual romance front and center you’d never know it.

Not my favorite. I really liked the idea of Theron's character and Sienna too, but I didn't like how Hackett developed them. Maybe it was the dominance aspect. Sienna almost becomes a different character around Theron. It's like Theron has become the "man" and Sienna just giggles and simpers while walking three steps behind him. I will read Hemi and Tane but this series is running out of steam for me. . . Hackett has built up the expectations for Tane especially so I hope it will be a good as the first few books.

I got my hopes up for this book, but I don't think anything could have quite prepared me! And I thought Finn made me blush... This was a nice change of pace in a lot of ways, and Theron and Sienna were a great match, though maybe not quite as sweet outside of the bedroom as I was hoping for (although the sprinkles were adorable). The background plot of the search for the weapon was great, and there is some excellent work done at teasing what to expect from the Berserkers, and of course I cannot wait.
