Danny McEwan is a hotshot Alpha just weeks away from his chance at impressing a scout for the National Hockey League. His talent, and years of hard work ensure that he’ll be called up to the big leagues, but his worst fears are realized when a horrible accident crushes his dreams. Unable to face the pity of loved ones, he finds his new best friend in a fifth of whisky. And nothing, not even a snarky (and hot as hell) physiotherapist is going to tear that bottle out of his hand.
Omega Brad Timmins left his east-coast life behind when he settled in Shale River for work. Life away from his family has been rough, and a forbidden attraction to one of his clients isn't helping. Danny’s muscled form is hard to ignore, but it’s the haunted look in his eyes that claws at Brad’s heart. It’s not just Danny’s gorgeous body that needs a healing touch.
This is the first novella about the Alpha Danny and his Omega Brad. This re-release contains an enemies-to-lovers story line, scenes of love and lust between and Alpha/Omega couple, pregnancy risk, non-shifter mpreg in an Omegaverse world, and handsome country gentlemen in cowboy hats and tight jeans working their hardest for a happy ending.
A damaged body and a healer's hands. Neither man is expecting love to come from the situation but few do. We spend a significant amount of time getting to know the expansive anger Danny carries. He lashes out and gets so angry all the time that it's almost grating since it only lightens when Brad is there. There's not much in terms of relationship development at all since this is only the first part of their story, and while I can see where it's going, I'm not seeing a very promising start.
For a part 1, this was an adequate beginning and lays the groundwork for all that Danny has to overcome to find peace with himself, his career, and his family before he can hope for love with Brad. What we're given doesn't feel compelling or even truly romantic either; I'm only mildly interested in finding out more. I hate to be blunt, but with very little redeeming qualities in Danny, knowing virtually nothing about Brad, and no relationship to speak of, there's practically nothing to recommend for me to continue.
It’s my fault for not paying attention to the fact that this was book 1 of 3. It was free on the ‘Zon and less than 100 pages so I thought it would be a quick read to add to my book goal for the year. It too me almost a day to read this SHORT book.
It was … okay. I give lots of credit to the author for even writing the book (I wish I had the talent). The story was just … there. Almost like a ‘day in the life of’ but it wasn’t as interesting as I thought it was going to be. The MCs met, flirted, agreed to meet for coffee, the end. The Alpha MC started out kind of an arrogant @$$. By the end of part one he was at least a bit mellower. I’m not invested enough to continue the series.
***** POV… third person
Standalone or series… book 1 in series. Just sort of ends
This is my first outing in Shale Rivers and whilst I enjoyed the premise of the story, I can't say that I was fully engaged throughout and didn't feel the biggest of connections between the two MC's, Danny and Brad. Danny seemed to fall suddenly and quickly for the omega, and his accident and time in recovery was skipped over in the first few chapters so you really have to pay attention to the goings on throughout to pick out the details. I will carry on with the series to give it a chance and see what happens with the couple but as a stand alone I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review
Engaging, sweet, poignant story about overcoming life altering events. I enjoyed this first novella about Danny, an injured hockey player and his physical therapist, Brad. Danny's anger and denial were pretty normal i think for this type of thing, where you could lose the one thing you have dreamed of. Brad's help and connection with Danny start to allow him to start to heal and work to get better.
Danny and Brad's connection is special and i am looking forward to the next installment to see how they grow together!
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
I got through 59% before DNF'ing and that was already me skimming, trying to see if it would get better.
I just couldn't get past how the characters were being described "the wounded alpha" "the once-confident Alpha.." instead of just saying Danny or he.
It reads like a WattPad book. And there isn't anything necessarily wrong with that, considering how many romance books read like that, but I don't enjoy it.
A good start for a series. This is a re-release with novella format. The starting of the story is quite promising. Hope the next installment will come soon.
