I can honesty that this a book that I mostly likely would not have brought. I picked it up because at the end of last year, Open Road Media had hundreds of freebies listed, and several Anthony books were among them. I am a book slut and the rest is history.

While the plot of the book is somewhat predictable, it was, in fact, a thrilling read. The heroine is Julia, a reporter, who is told by her boss to bring down a business rival. What I really liked was that Julia's sex life was not condemned and her ex-boyfriend was not a douche or wanting to get back together.

This was a pretty good mystery story. It went on for longer than may have been necessary and everything was well in the end. It was a good read as an audio book to listen to while I was setting up my loom and weaving.

Run of the mill British thriller, but entertaining enough that I'd read more by her.

A Very Good Thriller

This was a fast paced thriller that involves a Nazi officer who assumes a dead allied soldiers identity to escape capture. This man emerges years later as the head of a multimedia corporation. Until it all comes crashing down.

Some clever twists in the story. A bit dated in style.

Page turner, but docked a star for cliched egomaniacal “I’d do it all again too” confession to resolve the plot.

Switching times was confusing. Page 5 and page 185 identical. The proof reader must have been asleep.
Usage of "he" and "she" pronouns in one paragragh so blurred it was difficult to tell who was being referred to.
Very poorly written.

Interesting fact from the book: DEAREST BRACELETS had a row of stones spelling dearest: diamond, emerald, amethyst, ruby, emerald, sapphire, and topaz).Victorian Era.

My favorite so far

It's not your average British who done it. It starts that way but morphs into a modern day crime thriller. The psychological portraits of the characters aren't just good, they're great. Don't pass this book up!

I am biased because the late Evelyn Antony is my all time favourite novelist. Her stories never fail to intrigue me . Her style is possibly a little dated for some people, but think of the best thrillers in the manner of Frederick Forsyth and you get the idea. I highly recommend all of her books.

Not spies this time but intrigue and deception non the less. A disputed inheritance, family feuds … delicious reading from Ms Anthony’s wonderful imagination.
