"Kicking On," a semi-sequel to "Where the Bluegrass Grows," is Macy Holland’s story.Macy Holland has it all – a wonderful family, amazing friends, and an exciting career as an equine veterinarian in Lexington, Kentucky. However, all that changes in an instant when tragedy strikes, and Macy is forced to return home to Maryland for good. Even with the love and support of her best friends, Macy is left trying to salvage the bits and pieces of her former life. Then new neighbor and racehorse trainer, Adam Cleary, enters her world and complicates life even further.Even though Macy’s heart is broken and life seems to be spinning out of control, she knows that she must keep kicking on.
Laurie Berglie lives in Maryland with her husband, James, and their 8 four-legged children. She enjoys renovating her fixer-upper farm, reading horse books, and competing in the hunters. She has a BA in English from Stevenson University and an MA in Humanities from Towson University.
I thoroughly enjoyed Laurie Berglie's first book "Where the Bluegrass Grows" and couldn't wait for the semi-sequel "Kicking On". It did not disappoint! I loved the slow build to the meat of this equestrian romance. Her characters are warm and true equestrians through and through. What moved me most about this book was the constant theme of living in the moment and to not take anyone or anything for granted. Now the question is when can I expect book three from this talented author? Highly recommend whether you are a horse lover or not!
This book was my perfect read. I rooted for the characters, became entrenched in their world and absolutely cannot wait to see if Adam and Macy will find happily ever after. If Macy won’t commit, I’ll take him! The details of Maryland life, fox hunting and thoroughbreds are so true that I felt like I was reading about my friends and neighbors. Once you pick it up you won’t want to put it down.
It can be so difficult finding equestrian novels, let alone equestrian novels for twenty/thirty somethings. This one exceeded my expectations & I’m so glad it was featured in my Cavali Club subscription box! I loved the relationships represented between the characters & their horses as well as with each other—very well thought out. Thank you for such an uplifting tale about...well...kicking on! :)
It was fun to read this story knowing names of places, hunts, and horse related incidents. Living in a nearby town, I could easily put myself in the beautiful surroundings!
Absolutely adored this book! I loved the first book in the series and was nervous the second one wouldn’t be as good but honestly it was even better. The slow burn of Macy and Adam is perfect along with plenty of horses. I couldn’t put the book down and finished it in one day!
Loved this book just as much as I loved the first book!! This sequel did not disappoint!! Recommending this to my horse friends, and even the non horsey ones as well! Next book in the series please :)
