When a man is murdered in his bed, DNA evidence conclusively identifies the killer. The only problem? He's currently serving a life sentence for murdering the man's wife more than six years earlier.
The medical examiner's office turns to forensic pathologist Bodhi King for help. But Bodhi's conflicted: he worked on the original case before his retirement.
As Bodhi untangles the web of evidence, his quest for clarity calls his former colleagues' work into question and leads him down a dangerous path of secrets, lies, and violence. And his commitment to the truth may prove fatal.
Twisted Path is the fourth book in the Bodhi King forensic thriller series by USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller.

"Penny thought it was long past time for the legislature to recognize the sad truth: a lot of defendants, especially those with limited resources, plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit rather than risking a longer or harsher sentence." I'd add to that, especially when children will be forced to testify at trial!
Twisted Path A Bodhi King Novel by Melissa Miller 5 stars
I just finished the fourth book in the Bodhi King Series. I received the book in return for an honest review. It is easy to be honest when the book is very good. Bodhi gets dragged into a consulting position when the DNA of Daman Tenley, who killed Raina Noor turns up at the murder scene of her husband Giles Noor, 6/7 years later. Tenley is in jail so he has a good alibi for the second murder. The author nicely brings in Saul David whom Bodhi formerly worked with as a pathologist well as Maisey , the investigative reporter. Bodhi is best at solving unsolvable puzzels. This statement by the author is so true about her character , Bodhi King. The unfolding of the mystery is done at a very good pace with very authentic dialogue between the various characters including Detective Barton and Detective Chrys Martin and Hope Noor ,the widow. Melissa Miller has done extensive research to back up her writing. I found the passages pertaining to the chimera, vanishing twin chimera and transplant induced chimerism especially intriguing. If you have not read this series yet, you are in for a real treat.
Twisted Path is the fourth novel in the series featuring Buddhist forensic pathologist Bodhi King and has the most scientific flavour of the four so far. When DNA from a convict are found on a crime scene, Bodhi finds himself investigating what appears to be an impossible anomaly. Without giving away too much of the story, fans of the series can expect to learn some mind blowing facts about DNA, thoroughly researched and presented by the author in her inimitable, accessible style. If the first half of the novel is perhaps a little slow and Bodhi’s presence a little scarce, it is worth persevering past the halfway point, when the pace picks up, leading to one of the most exciting final showdowns scenes of any of Miller’s books.
With Twisted Path, Melissa F. Miller has taken her forensic thriller series to a different level, with a story reminiscent of Patricia Cornwell’s early Scarpetta novels, when the science was new and exciting for both the main character and the reader themselves. I am now looking forward to “Cold Path” - the fifth novel in the series - even more.
Bodhi is asked to help on a case that seems impossible - the DNA of a man sitting in jail is found at a current crime scene. The man had killed the wife of the current victim many years ago, and Bodhi had worked on that case.
The book shows you parts of the original case, as well as detailing the present one, and allows you to understand what is actually happening, even before Bodhi and the others have figured it out.
Bodhi approaches everything with this logical mind, and a calmness I'm sure I would never have in these kinds of situations.
I read this book in one sitting, couldn't put it down!
Dr. Bohdi King solves the unsolvable, or so goes his reputation. This case he gets as a consultant to his former place of employment grabs the reader right out of the gate. The DNA of man who is currently in jail is found at the scene of the murder of the husband of the woman he murdered. All of this plus the expected tension between the D.A.’s office, the Police, Coroner’s office and the press. Plus we get our little infusion of Buddhist wisdom (and a joke as well) and a quote from our favorite Admiral, Grace Hopper. All in all, another wonderful read from Melissa F. Miller.
Bodhi is back in an exciting, fast paced adventure that keeps the pages turning! I love Bodhi, his wisdom and logic and just his way of life and looking at it. Melissa is an amazing author who keeps things fresh, and pages turning to discover what she has come up with next! So often I will enjoy a series, only to get bogged down and no longer interested in keeping up but not with Melissa. I look forward to the next Bodhi King adventure.
This was an absolutely fantastic read, the way everything starts to fall into place and the story unfolds was addictive. Bohdi has his work cut out with this case where a killer already in jail appears to have struck again 7 years later and puts the original case in doubt and causes mistrust among those involved. This is actually the first Bohdi King novel I have read and will be going back to read the first 3 now!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Twisted Path. Bodhi King always calms me down, no matter what’s going on in my life. We had a 90th birthday party for my mom with 46 people at my house the day after I finished this one. It was a good diversion while I was getting things ready. The plot kept me guessing. I had a pretty good inkling there was some unusual connection somewhere, but I couldn’t quite get there. I love how it played out. As always, a range of interesting characters.
I received an eArc for this book. A fast paced, gripping and mind boggling thriller featuring my favorite forensic pathologist Dr Bodhi King. The story is high on suspense and hard to put down once you've begun and like most of Melissa's books, gives an insight into the complexities of the human nature.
The books are enjoyable to read and hard to put down. The way the characters are being developed and return and are incorporated into the story line is effortless. Also the interaction with other books by this author makes you want to read other series. A short read but one you don’t want to put down.
The story revolves around DNA and its use in solving crimes. Bohdi is once again the savior of the day. His out of the box thinking leads to solving the crime in an unexpected way. Interesting reading with facts about different religious practices. Insight into emotions of the characters and a tenderness provided by Bohdi rounds out a fun read.
I enjoyed the pace of this book. The characters were believable. The story line was a good one that was difficult to figure out for most of the book till the author gave strong clues half way through. Would have liked a little more development to the outcome of the characters after the case was solved but it didn’t hinder me from enjoying the book. I’ve bought the fifth in the series.
I like the Bodhi King novels because not only a good read they are always a learning experience about something interesting. In the author’s remarks she lists the research materials she used for the medical/ forensic information she used in the book. I’ll continue to read Ms. Miller’s books as long as she keeps writing them.
Another great book But I wish these were on kindle unlimited. So far I have spent $15 dollars on this series and 95% of the time I do not spend extra on books maybe an occasional $.99 so this tells you these books are great and yes, I'm going to read the fifth one. My budget is broken this month but these stories are fantastic
This installment has Bodhi working a cold case with many of his old team from earlier days in the Pittsburgh area. I enjoyed that his new girlfriend was thus not in the novel much. Interesting to see how the different agencies worked together: forensics, police, public defenders. A copycat killing years later requires examining the new material and reexamining the old. Bodhi to the rescue!
Dr. Bodhi King is an intuitive and sensitive physician. I haven’t read about coroners embracing compassion very often. The puzzles are engrossing and the writing is well done. I look forward to his next adventure.
Really glad to see that the element of book 3 that I didn't like was not carried into book 4, but instead we were back to tried and true Bodhi King. Enjoyed the scientific look into DNA and into chimera creatures.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this book. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to read more about the Bodhi adventures in crime solving. I would say this book is my favorite Bodhi book to date.
Quite a story. With Bodhi back in town for consultation on a case that is somehow related to a case from his past as coroner. Indeed there are plenty of twisted paths. The characters are much improved from earlier episodes.
Really like this series...Bodhi solves tough, puzzling mysteries with kindness, sympathy, which I really like....the twist in this story is intriguing....
TWISTED PATHS by Melissa Miller Bodhi King series # 4 It seemed like we was observing Damon, the words from him penetrating us of what he had done. A kill, was not for money then why. Is the clue her husband, who was at a holiday department party. We know had another picture of Bodhi, with untamable wild curls. Sonny is telling him he was to go to court today testifying about the case,as a pathologist. Saul wants him to figure out how Tenley’s DNA wound up at Noor’s murder. Bodhi observing the people in the room, there reaction to the case, he was brought in as a consultant. The main question they have is how the DNA was at the scene and yet person was in prison. It is a puzzle and he will figure it out, giving the truth, regardless of what impact it may fall to anyone that may hurt them or friendship of what he finds I love her books the story flows, you know the characters. Especially Bodhi, he is a special unique person and even thru these pages we agree.. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
FASCINATING! Ms. Miller has done it again with Twisted Path. It was as a remarkable story as one expects when reading a Bodhi King book. There is always murder and mayhem but there is also always a gentleness in his stories. Bodhi is always so calm, cool and collected no matter the situation.
That the book is a Melissa F. Miller/Bodhi King is enough to have kept me reading but the opening paragraphs of the book are captivating and set the stage for some very enlightening facts on DNA and what a role it can play in investigations. The amount of research on this subject as well as hints of mythology shine through and is presented to the reader in a very understandable way – it does not take you down a textbook or mythological path. Ms. Miller just ties this all up in a great read!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who especially enjoys crime fiction with emphasis on coroner/medical examiner and their procedures.
